It wasn't just a mall, it was a backdrop for so many memories. I still remember when it had Rainforest Café and Johnny Rockets, those were absolute staples of any visit. There was even a Sanrio store at one point, that had planko, which felt like a little slice of joy every time I walked in. It really was the mall of my time growing up. Some of my favorite memories include visiting Santa during the holidays, catching movies with friends and family, and just spending afternoons wandering around when going to the mall was a real treat, not just an errand. Not to mention using the photobooth before "selfies" were a thing. They even had a bounce house and play area which was so much fun as a child. It's definitely bittersweet seeing it close. While it's not quite what it once was, it still holds so many good memories for so many people. A solid four stars for everything it was at its peak and for the nostalgia it leaves behind. An end of an era, but one worth remembering.

They were happily riding the escalator, and I was taking a simple video of them on my phone. To my surprise, a security guard stopped me and told me that videotaping was not permitted. At first I didn't even realize she was speaking to me because she was mumbling from a distance. When I continued recording my children, she approached again and more firmly told me that no videotaping was allowed. What made the experience so frustrating is that the mall is literally days away from closing. The building was largely empty, my children were simply riding the escalator, and I was recording family memories--not conducting a commercial photo shoot or disrupting anyone. Meanwhile, there have been photographers and members of the media documenting the mall's final days. The whole interaction felt unnecessary and unwelcoming. Instead of leaving with fond memories of one last visit to MacArthur Center, I left feeling scolded for recording my own children in an almost-empty mall that will no longer exist in a matter of days. Consumer habits may have changed over the years, but experiences like this certainly don't encourage people to return. It was a disappointing way to end what should have been a nostalgic final visit.

Always a great time rain or shine!…read more I don't even know how long this series has been going on, but I will take a guess and say at least a decade! For as long as I can remember, the city of Portsmouth (Old Towne area) hosts 'Sunset Thursdays' starting in June or July. Every Thursday a different band, usually local is featured and starts entertaining the crowd at 6pm. It is free to sit and listen. But bring some cash, vendors are on site. And if none of the vendors interest you, the site this year is walking distance to downtown, the High Street area. This street offers plenty to eat - sit down and take out options. Or if you are feeling the need, pack a bag and bring your own food and drink. I have been out on Thursdays to several events and each time is a treat! Bands of all genres are featured. See the list for this year - https://portsvaevents.com/event/sunset-thursdays-2022/2022-07-07/ In case link does not work - this is line up for 2022: June 16th RaJazz (R&B, Jazz) June 23rd Island Boy (Hard Rock, Country, Funk) June 30th Slapnation (Rock, Jazz, Reggae) July 7th The Original Rhondels (Beach, 70's, 80's) July 14th Michael Clark Band (Rock, R&B, Disco) July 21st BrassWind (Beach, Pop, Motown, R&B, Rock, Funk, Soul) July 28th TFC Band (Motown, Soul, R&B, Funk, Oldies, Beach) August 4th Soul Intent (Beach, 70s, 80s & Rock) August 11th Better By Tuesday (R&B, Jazz, Funk) August 18th 2nd Wynd (R&B, Reggae, Jazz, Rock) August 25th J & The Band (Top 40, Classic Rock, Beach, Funk, Oldies) September 1st Revelation (R&B, Rock, Funk, Reggae) September 8th Hot Cakes (Country, Rock, 70's, 80's, 90's) If you love live music, you should definitely come out and enjoy. Bring your own lawn chair because chairs are not provided or if you are fortunate enough, pull up in your boat or jet ski and listen to the sounds from the water view. Such a great time for the young and old. Parking...garages are nearby and street parking is available. Have fun and enjoy life :)

I thought it would be a lot larger but the spot is quite small but it is very nice to walk around. There are also lots of nice areas adjacent to the garden and terrace as well. I parked in front of the garden went around it and then found the USS Wisconsin and the Naval museum just past the garden. I went around and finished checking out the other side of the garden after. The parking was free for 2 hrs in front of the garden and it seemed like parking in general was plentiful and open this weekend. It looked like college dormitories around the garden and some other residential areas around the middle of downtown Norfolk. There were many nice plants in the garden, the terrace was nice but not open as far as I could tell, and the koi pond was nice if someone would clean out the pond scum from the fish pond. There were small bridges over the water and multiple water fountains in the koi pond. There were a few benches to sit on if you wanted to just relax or meditate in the garden. Overall, it was a nice garden but it is not something to go downtown to see, but it is a nice additional thing to see if you are going to the USS Wisconsin and the Naval museum or if you staying in downtown area. Lots of people were exercising (walking and jogging) so it is a nice scene to pass by if you are doing that.

Great spot to walk around. There's ice cream inside too! Very yummy. Beautiful day to explore.read more

Nothing was open so, no way to get snacks beforehand and very little seating inside. It was my first time and I was shocked by the lack of parking, the gravel roads, no sidewalks or organized crosswalks, lack of parking and pull-off for cars doing drop-off and construction. The extremely small building and waiting area for the "station" was also a surprise. There is some serious work that needs to happen here... the station feels like an afterthought, with the smallest building and arrival/departure area I've ever seen at a station in a larger city like Norfolk. There is clearly some sidewalk work being done - but, having to drag your rolling bag through gravel and broken up streets past cars everywhere and people parked on the single sidewalk was not the best with a baby in a stroller and multiple rolling bags. Boarding was also a pain as they only opened two boarding doors for the entire train so hundreds of people and their bags and babies being loaded on was a huge traffic jam. I'm not sure why they do this... it made getting into the train a huge pain and long, long line. Not impressed with Norfolk Amtrak station area at all. Train was great. Station needs some work and infrastructure.

Very easy. Better than the bus. Also to fly from DC to Norfolk osnt worth it. Make more city spotsread more
