Almost immediately, breastfeeding was a struggle, as I was dealing with cracked and bleeding nipples. Within a few days of my son's birth, I was told by my midwife that he had a posterior tongue tie. She advised us to have it revised using the laser method in order to help improve his latch. My husband and I were skeptical about having such an invasive procedure done on our days-old baby boy. We sought out a second evaluation and feedback from a local IBCLC. And, after she informed us that a revision should not be necessary, I was referred to Children's Therapy Solutions (specifically Jes Costa) for some gentler options to assist with our son's latch. We brought our 2 week old to meet with Jes Costa twice within a span of 2 weeks to receive gentle myofascial release on his upper body. Jes is incredible with babies. She uses a very gentle approach and is incredibly knowledgeable about breastfeeding. She was able to encourage me tremendously during an incredibly challenging time. I am so happy to say that by 6 weeks of age, my son was gaining weight and breastfeeding like a pro! I am no longer in pain and consider nursing to be an enjoyable experience. I accredit Jes Costa for helping us avoid a tongue tie reversal and for the overall success of my breastfeeding journey so far.
