These guys are a little tricky to get to (just west of downtown past where the LRT tracks are crossing 10th), but they are worth it! They are very honest, their prices are fair and they won't try to up-sell you on something you don't need. Being female, I spent a lot of time and energy arguing with mechanics as to what they insisted was "necessary" work, when in reality all they wanted was to help themselves to my hard-earned cash. I trust these guys implicitly - if they say it needs to be done, then it needs to be done. I will go to them until a) I move away from Calgary, or b) they shut down, which I don't think they will as they've been around forever. read more

I used to take my vehicle to Courtney Auto in the 80's when they were located on 17th ave SW by Western Canada High School. Alvin the mechanic was excellent and would always repair my vehicle quickly at a fair price. They moved and I lost touch with them thinking that they had closed down. Then in the 2000's I was referred by someone to Courtney Auto and was glad to see that they were still in business and Alvin still worked there. I started taking my vehicle there again and received great service and prices. Unfortunately Alvin got sick and passed away. After that I had a few oil changes done by David, Alvin's previous helper. After one of the oil changes his helper Jason stated that my vehicle needed a lot of work done on the front end. I said I would think about it for a few days and get back to them. When I decided to go ahead with the repairs I contacted David and asked if he could schedule the work when I would have a second vehicle for that week, approximately 3 weeks in advance. He said he didn't have anything booked that far ahead and I asked for a ball park figure on the cost of repairs. He said he would get back to me in a few days. A week went by and I called again and asked for a cost of repairs. Again he never called back. I had to call him 4 different times and finally his helper Jason called me back with an approximate figure. When the time came to bring my vehicle in David had the day mixed up and I had to reschedule the time for repairs. I took it in about 1 week later and they said they would start working on it. I called a day and a half later and asked how they were progressing. Jason said he hadn't even started to take things apart as they were waiting for parts to be delivered and the parts wouldn't be there until next week. I stated that I needed the vehicle back to get to work and came and picked it up. Well it's been almost 3 weeks and I haven't been called back to bring my vehicle in for repairs. It sure is taking a long time for those parts to be delivered. Maybe they ordered them from Timbuctoo. It's obvious they never intended to repair my vehicle and instead wasted a lot of my time dropping the vehicle off and picking it up again. When Alvin was alive Courtney Auto used to be a great place to take your vehicle for repairs. Now it's being run like a real chicken shit outfit. I'd advise anyone to find a different repair shop. read more

I always bring my vehicles here to get work done on them. I have never had any concerns over "trust" with the guys. My parents were in Calgary from out of town a couple years ago. They mentioned they had a problem with their car no one could fix...they had been to 5-6 different shops. I told them about Courtney and said let them have a go at it. Well they were pleasantly surprised their car came out %100 better..So to sum it up, competent, trustworthy and reasonably priced. read more
