They make a big deal about the fields being replicas of major league stadiums but I've been to many major league stadiums and I didn't see the resemblance. It's regularly 90-100+ in Manteca during the summer and they prevent you from bringing in Gatorade for your kids who are playing, sometimes in back to back games, on turf where the temp is easily increased by another 5 or 10 degrees. Sounds dangerous and highly irresponsible, especially for children who are not used to living in or playing in this heat. There also just isn't enough shade built into the facility. The clubhouse gets packed and so do the few shaded areas. Since those are the only spaces that are ADA, they are also the only spaces where you can wheel and store wagons to cart chairs, umbrellas, coolers of water etc. So the clubhouse spaces between tables and the shaded walkways outdoors are packed with wagons and people trying to avoid the sun/heat and then no one can easily get through. You have to go through the clubhouse to get from one stadium to another if you have a wagon, or walk all the way around in the scorching heat. It's a fire hazard really. On their website, it says you cannot bring outside food either but when you get there, after driving for more than an hour, you learn you can also bring fresh fruit. Well thanks. Would have been good to know that before we headed here and left fresh fruit at home. The website rules also say you can't have music. We played between inning music and walk-up music all season but left the speakers at home because of the rules. When we got here, other teams were playing music. We learned that the rule doesnt apply to youth. Again it would have been nice for that info to be clear and available in the planning stage. Lastly, you can't bring in food but their food court is expensive ($33 for two orders of chicken tenders and fries with a small drink) and there aren't enough options, especially for those with dietary restrictions or just an interest in not eating fried food or pizza. This place has a lot of promise but needs to shift from an "if you know you know" mentality, since it draws people from hours away who will only know if it is on the website and clearly stated.

I recently visited BLD for fun to watch whatever soccer game was going on. THE AMOUNT OF DRINKING AROUND CHILDREN??? should be considered unacceptable. People reeked of alcohol.. and it was extremely unpleasant. To add on, I was interested in reffing for the summer so I thought, "Hey, why not ask the score keeper how I can become a ref for indoor soccer in the summer?" The worker told me to talk to Justin in the front office, and so I made my way. Justin offered me an interview the following day at 5pm. I pulled up around 4:40pm, and he said, "The guy giving you the interview will be here in about 10 minutes." I asked, "Is it okay if I go on the swings while I wait?" He agreed. First of all those swings are falling apart, THEY ARE DANGEROUS AND THEY NEED TO BE UPDATED. The entire metal ROD/BAR moves as your swinging. To give a visual, I'm about 5'1" and weigh less than 150 pounds. ANYWAYS MOVING ON TO THE INTERVIEW: IF YOU ARE A WOMAN I WOULD STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. Once my interview actually started which btw, I'm 28 years old, I teach 5th grade and I have TONS OF EXPERIENCE. However, this man who was giving me the interview BARELY LET ME SPEAK. It seemed that I asked more questions than he did... which was shocking. I learned more about him in the short 10 minutes that I was there. In other words he said, "You probably can't handle it." Little does he know the amount of trauma and experience I have working with all types of ages and people. However, he would never know since he WOULDN'T ASK ME QUESTIONS OR LET ME SPEAK. Stay far away from this business. It's terrible, and don't even get me started on Roy.

So we signed up my daughter and she ended up being like one of two girls in her age bracket in the whole camp. She made the best of it and the coaches were so caring and wonderful that they made sure to include her and champion her and ultimately, she did learn things even if they weren't strictly softball.

This was one of the most unprofessional and disappointing camp experiences we've ever had. My kids attended the baseball camp, and even though they're usually easygoing, they came home after the first day saying the camp was "boring." They said they spent a lot of time just watching TV -- which is not what you expect when you sign up for a sports-focused camp. The biggest red flag came during their planned field trip to Tech Interactive. Kids were there on time (between 8:30-9:00 AM), but none of the coaches had arrived. Parents had to step in, calling the coaches (who didn't respond), and eventually reaching the owner. He showed up eventually at 10:00 AM. Thankfully, the parents didn't leave the kids alone, but this kind of mismanagement caused many of us to be late for work and left everyone extremely frustrated. For a kids program, this level of disorganization is just unacceptable. But the most concerning part was what happened when I and my kids shared their feedback about the camp. Instead of listening or showing any accountability, the owner recorded a video of the kids after I left -- without parent's permission -- and sent it to the teen coaches. Those high school-aged coaches then showed that video to other campers, and our kids were blamed by their peers for "ruining TV time." When one of my sons asked to practice pitching, he was told he cannot, and when the other coach asked why, he responded by saying "Because he ruined it". That's not just poor judgment -- it's inappropriate and damaging. We emailed the owner expressing how wrong this was. He only replied to say that the video shouldn't have been shown to other kids -- but completely ignored the fact that he made and shared the video in the first place. That's a serious violation of privacy and trust. It's fine to have high school helpers, but they need to be properly trained and supervised -- and clearly, they weren't. When the leadership sets such a poor example, it trickles down. We pulled our kids out early and will not return. If you're a parent looking for a safe, respectful, and well-run environment for your child, this is not it. I truly hope this helps another family avoid the experience we had.

I was impressed, but too far as a solo parent and work/obligations to make it worthwhile for us with the cost. We were VERY happy with the move to Livermore. I figured since we have our own 55' batting cage in our yard, the Classic membership would be awesome.. get a discount on private lessons and some take home skills to work through via the app... Well, twins... homeschool PE became anything but baseball in the backyard so we switched to the "Elite" program. Initially was discouraged as the classes were always full and had scheduling issues. However, a year+ later I'm very happy with class availability and the addition of classes when needed. It's hard to reach anyone by phone at the business number early in the day as they open for classes after 3 pm, but leaving a voice message, email or using text message is pretty responsive... so they ARE there, just not physically in the building. My boys enjoy the classes and feel they are honing skills and developing new as well. It's great for me as a homeschool parent as someone else is now in charge of "PE". I do wish there was more space inside so parents could pop in and watch now and then but definitely no room for one parent of each player in a class.. and also, it's less distraction. You will see many parents in cars outside multi-tasking while kiddos are inside. It's a great time to bring your pup and take a walk too! If you have any ballplayer - baseball or softball, and any age, I encourage you to check this place out at least for the assessment you will get with a video and very valid comments on hitting and pitching to keep whether you continue on or not. The staff is great and has been easy to work with even as I had billing questions.. it's about the experience first and can work through anything else! Cost is pricey along with everything else these days, but worth it. For us, changing from Classic to Elite made sense.

The quality largely depends on who the instructor happens to be. The private lessons were very helpful albeit very expensive. For the group classes some of the instructors are very good and some don't offer much instruction at all. They don't seem to limit the size of the class so at times there are way too many kids for a single instructor to be effective with. As a result kids just go through the drills with very little to no individual instruction. They seem to struggle with keeping their accounting accurate have had a couple issues with that and it took a lot of time to straighten out some erroneous billing on their part. Overall though they have a good program but it could be better.

FNYB is home. Every year, I think more so than the kids who play, we can't wait for baseball…read moreseason. Why? Because FNYB is an amazing place to play. In business, we're taught that leadership and core values are set at the top. Since Robert Pena took over as President (and the FFL staff departed!) I've consistently asked him question after question and his consistent answer is "YES". Is it a good idea for the kids? He says yes. Is it good for the league? He says yes. Is it good for our teams? He says yes. Isn't that how it's supposed to be? I also find the FNYB board to be extremely dedicated; most leagues have board members there to push their own personal agendas, but I find that Bob's view of "is this good for ALL the kids" to be a constant refrain from them. This doesn't mean I always get what I want; but I always leave knowing that even though my way didn't come out on top, all of the kids will benefit from the way chosen. FNYB is a pretty positive place to play; sure, you have coaches who want to win; sure, you have a few loud coaches, but noone is perfect; they've often got baseball experience and the kids best interests at heart. My son has played in the league for over 5 years and it's been amazing to see how much he's grown. The Memorial Day Tournament is great fun! Bring a team over, spend the weekend here. Last year's games were nail biters to the end and had parents and kids hanging around long after their own individual games had ended. Overall, I find FNYB to be a good value; of course, find a coach that works for you, spend a few hours on a Saturday at the fields. FNYB is not a traveling league; their games are at 1 location (there are 2 fields, but you always play at the 1 location). As the kids move up, there's a bit of interleague play (with FBI and Cal Ripken, for example) where you might go to their fields - but it's in Fremont. No travel? How great is that?
