This is the second time we visited the property in 2 months. We love it. The location is fantastic and we were lucky enough to be upgraded to water view - extremely relaxing. The best part of our stay was the staff who went above and beyond to make sure that we had the best experience. Mariah is an excellent ambassador for the hotel (and Marriott) and she more than accommodated our requests. Thank you also to Tina for the little details to make our celebration (birthday). Almost a four but a couple of things happened that caused the 3 rating. First the good stuff. Breakfast was excellent, the three of us each had a different offering and everyone of us was delighted. I had the lemon ricotta pancakes with cooked blueberries. My daughter had the vegetarian omelette (sun dried tomatoes with spinach) excellent, my wife had an ample fruit plate. The lobby has a great seating area. In addition the seating area in front of the pool was great with plenty of shade areas. The room was ok. Now on to the issues. With the exception of Taj. (who was just there on the last day of my stay). The staff was pretty much clueless as to what was happening in town. They didn't recognize my gold status as a marriott rewards customer. The key's consistently lost there ability to open doors and had to be reprogrammed constantly. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE I don't usually have complaints--it's got to be REALLY bad to get me riled, but I urge you not to stay here. Charleston has too many great hotels to waste your money at the Courtyard by Marriott. When we arrived for a recent weekend, we were told that our suite was not ready and we were offered adjoining rooms (only one of which was ready). The rooms were overlooking the highway and swamp land, not waterfront as the suite was listed, and were located directly across the hall from the laundry supply room. The adjoining door between the rooms was completely blocked by a heavy sofa. Maintenance never responded to shove it over. It was NOT quiet. I showed them my reservation and asked if they were honoring that price. "Oh, yes." I was told. I asked again the next day when I saw that my credit card reflected two $700 pending charges. Shakeria Linin told me it would be handled. And on the last day, Shakeria repeated that the rate was still the same as when it was booked. Yet, they billed us for $1,300 rather than the $915 listed in my guaranteed reservation. I was given a price in my guaranteed reservations and I trusted that information to be honest. VISA told me to dispute through Marriott. I have attached the corporate reply: Dear Xxxxxx, Thank you for choosing to stay at the Courtyard Charleston Waterfront and providing your honest feedback on the Guest Satisfaction Survey. Providing the highest level of hospitality is our number one priority and I sincerely apologize that we fell short of meeting your needs in regards to moving a heavy couch. It is important that our guests feel well-attended to throughout their entire stay. As a result, we take these concerns very seriously, and what you described is not a normal occurrence at our hotel. Your feedback is being addressed with our team to ensure we don't make the same mistake in future. We hold ourselves to extremely high standards, and should you stay with us again, we believe you'll see this was an isolated incident. We felt like they used COVID as an excuse to do a crappy job. Room was not ready when we arrived, once in the room, the bathroom door did not fit properly and the shower handle fell off. I asked for an extra pillow and it took 5 times for room service to bring me the correct item. There was a kitchenette with Palmolive soap but no sponge or paper towels. We went to the pool for an hour and people were smoking and vaping. Overall, we will not be back. read more

The views are great, the location is great, every staff member I talked to was pleasant...BUT, our group of four was sitting by the fire pit (which wasnt working) having some wine, when we were politely told that since the pool closed at 11, we needed to leave. We werent using the pool but ok, same area, so we went to the upstairs outdoor patio....where we were told at midnight that that area closed too. It wasn't a staffed area, there were a lot of guests out there but it was not loud, and none of us noticed any hours open sign. It just felt like we were parented and it didn't sit well, this had never happened at any other hotel I have stayed at. Soured my impression of there and since Charleston has lots of options I am going to look around more next trip. read more

Business trip, stayed here 5 nights. Warned the desk of problems with my keys on day 1, since I couldn't get in the room. Brought more keys up that didn't work for at least 10 swipes. The maid says oh you hold the handle up to open. Really. Ok. All week it takes more than 50 swipes to get a green light but I'll finally get in. No one came to check it or anything. Final night here I can't get in. Called 10 min ago after trying for 10 minutes and reception apologized which is awesome but still has not sent anyone up to let me in. I've been standing here waiting on maintenance looking like a weirdo in the hallway and no one is coming. Thank you Jesus I'm not being chased by a murderer or stalker right now. Thank you Jesus I don't have to pee or I'd pee my pants. Another thing is the bistro. Awesome morning service. Terrible evening service. My green goddess BLT was disgusting. The guacamole was BROWN and acidic. Yuck. The chicken was pale white flavorless. Bacon was cold and rubbery- gross. I hope next trip we don't choose this. We come here twice a year (multiple patrons in the group) and spend money and time in this not that great Marriott. read more

Just checked in and the lobby/registration is a disaster. 1 hour past check-in and room isn't ready. Construction everywhere with no notice on website or during booking. Grabbed a beer to sit outside and wait, and I have to sit next to power washer and pvc pipe. Looks like boxes and dry cleaning hanging in the bar. Worst Marriott ever so far. Told, albeit politely, I could cancel my reservation. WTH? Steer clear of this place unless you have a hard hat. Get to room, no art work hung, just spackled wall. My balcony overlooks a crane, no not the bird... the construction equipment. Asked to talked to the GM... he left. - smart guy! Heard a guy say "I'll sleep in the lobby if you can give my elderly father a quiet room tonight" because he had surgery scheduled in the morning. Marriott should close this place down till it is presentable. read more

Our romantic anniversary weekend consisted of finding out we slept on BLOODY SHEETS!!! 1) We checked in on Thursday and found our tub and sink were plugged. While we were at a wedding they unplugged the tub but not the sink. 2) We returned incredibly late and went straight to sleep. We woke up in the morning to my boyfriend sleeping on a dirty pillow. 3) Laying in bed I looked over and found BLOOD on the bed. I confirmed it was not from either of us and disgustingly realized, I had slept on someone else blood ALL NIGHT!!! Worse part was it was in the mid section, there were two large spots, it was more than obviously menstrual blood. 4) The hotel somehow disengaged our keys so I was locked out of my room at 6am. Had to go to the lobby and request another. The receptionist just asked for my room# and tossed the key at me like I had bothered her. Not even an acknowledgment of their mistake. 5) When I called the manager regarding the blood, he took 3 HOURS, to return my call. 6) When the manager did call back, he said, "I listened to my voicemail. Come down to the front desk, we have vouchers for a free night." No acknowledgment of the situation, apology or even status of if they were going to send someone up to clean the room. 7) Returned to the room that night to find ZERO parking spots in the garage or connected lots. Had to park in check-in parking. 8) All we asked of the manager was to have the room clean to "check-in" standards. Returned to our room to find pubic hair on the toilet seat and outer wall of the bath tub. Also, dirt on the floor of tub where the maid had stepped in the tub to access the interior towel rack. 9) Despite trying to bribe us to go away with offers of free hotels nights and breakfast, even on check out, nothing was received or acknowledged. 10) Still 3 days after check out we have still to receive the call we requested Friday night from management. We did call corporate. They were receptive and warm. However, despite ruining our 2 night anniversary weekend getaway, we have received 10,000 points. That sounds like alot till you realize a night in a normal average room is 30,000 a night. Incredibly disappointing. Hotel has tremendous potential. Accidents happen, every hotel is going to have a blunder but to have a mistake of bloody sheets and not even take 30 seconds to come to the room or listen to what happened was disgraceful. Even after a full phone call, I still had to ask the manager if he was going to send someone up to clean up the blood since he had lacked even addressing the main issue. Hopefully others continue to have better stays than this awful experience. At least, stays that require management attention, they may just leave as disappointed as us. read more

Nice property. Your room configuration, view and whether you have a balcony will be key determinants of your in room experience. The hotel is undergoing strategic renovations. The renovation activity is well managed and non-disruptive. Parking is free and convenient. The hotel shuttle is very great for rides to the middle of the King and Meeting Street areas. The fitness center is adequate. The property is good and getting better and room rates are difficult to beat. Yes, I will stay again. read more

When you pull up to the hotel the view is beautiful. I was greeted immediately and assisted by Chailene(I believe that's how you spell it) She made check in a breeze. She was sure to let me know how to get to parking and how to access the elevator from the parking deck. Speaking of parking...$8 a day is a steal in the area. The lobby and all common spaces had signs posted to enforce social distancing and everyone must have on a mask. We walked into the room assigned to us and it was wonderful. The balcony view was amazing and smell of salt water was even better! Immediately we start to unpack so we can explore Charleston. I went to take a shower and as I was getting out of the shower I unraveled the shower mat provided by the staff. I notice there is a bug, more specifically a bed bug after further research. I captured said bug and packed up our items. We went with all of our luggage to the front desk where Chailene was able to assist us again. I discreetly made her aware of the situation. She apologized and offered to move our room. While she was looking for an alternate option she expressed her training on bedbugs and how they aren't as bad as other bugs. I asked if this is how she usually deals with this issue and she stated it depends on the customer. European customers don't mind at all and if you're from New York that's very common. She continued on about the training she has in bed bugs and how to handle them. Also told me she wish she could transfer all of my knowledge to you so you won't be afraid, they don't carry diseases. Believe it or not I just kept my mouth shut after hearing that. I couldn't decide if I could laugh at her or be more irritated. BUT once I asked her how we were going to rectify the issue and she stated she was able to upgrade me to a room with a better view (BOMB view!) I asked was that all that could be done? She asked what else would I like to be done. I asked is there anything she can take off of the stay for inconvenience and she did. I was very VERY pleased with how she handled the issue in the end. Chailene was very professional and her training showed. Honestly that one hiccup was the least of our worries after we changed rooms. Although in the upgraded room there was a broken tub stopper. We didn't use it so no big deal but this is a review lol. The view on the terrace is so pretty! You see the water and boats and they have corn hole boards for you to play. I don't know if I would stay here again because of the bug situation but I definitely enjoyed my stay after being moved. read more

Only stayed at this location once and it was quite nice. The rooms were typical of a Courtyard --nothing too special, and the hotel was decent. At the time I stayed, it wasn't an updated Courtyard with the Bistro but did have a restaurant and bar. The staff were friendly and polite, and the overall experience was good. I'd certainly stay here again but my preference is definelyt the full service Marriott across the street. read more

Originally planned on staying July 1st through July 3rd. Drove up to registration, which is actually on the 1st floor. Registration Associate was fine but hard to understand due to his accent. Returned to car and a very pushy Associate was helping with luggage. I'd would of preferred to handle if I'd known that she was so crass. While walking to room, an unpleasant smell just surrounded you. Walked into room and smell was in there too. Imagine that carpet needs to be replaced cause it didn't smell like a cleaner. Used white socks in room which were filthy by end of stay, which was only one night. Bathroom needs to be remodeled; old fixtures. To Marriott Management: this location is NOT to the standard of your reputation. This location is like a ignored step-child. Shame on Marriott!!! Do NOT recommend staying here at all. read more

Stayed for 3-nights in a double with pull out sofa. The room was large enough to accommodate my family of 5, 3-teenagers in this family! Room offered wet bar, a patio and enough room for us to spread out. The staff was super friendly and accommodating. A couple things that was a bit annoying was the super slow elevators and limited parking in the covered garage...very tight spaces. Seems hotel may be older. Strong musky smell near elevators and in hallways. Room cleanliness was above standard! Housekeeping nicely made the pullout bed that my son refused to put sheets on due to laziness!! Placed their stuffed animals in bed and posed them! Felt like we were on a cruise!highly recommend in your visit to Charleston!! read more

Omg. My son is going to the citadel. Ive been here 3 times and each time have paid more and more to get a decent hotel and this was the last straw. 300 a night for this dump. Don't let the wharf view fool you. The view is nice and the lobby are has been renovated to a very contemporary facade only to have one of the most mildew and mold infested rooms. It was a corner room so we thought oh how nice until the 4 doors in the corner started slamming like they were in your ear. This is a Marriott, not a red roof. The rooms are like paper and could hear clear conversations like they were talking 2 inches from your ear. This was a 4 star, really? I travel for business and travelled all over and a Marriott rewards member and this was the worst Marriott, courtyard i have ever stayed. The stench from the mold and mildew made my allergies flourish like an atomic bomb. The bed was so soft and the pullout sofa made the room in habitable when pulled out. I swear i felt a bug on my face in the middle if the night. The "air conditioner" was so loud we had to turn the volume up to 62 and did nothing for the moisture in the room. News flash humidity grows mold. Ok i think this hotel has been here for a while and though you redecorated maybe 20 years ago, you need to air out the rooms and kill the mold and mildew. I just don't get the charleston charm? The hotels are dumps, the food really just ok, can say I've had better in many other cities. The air has a woft of decaying seaweed and the weather oppressive in august. The people are really don't have your quintessential southern hospitality, maybe they have had their fill of tourists. Well I've had my fill of charleston and this Marriott. Ive booked the Hyatt for my next trip. We'll see. read more

I am a Marriott Rewards member and generally stay in Marriott hotels when I travel. I chose this hotel for our trip to see the eclipse in its totality. We arrived early and were pleased to find a comfortable patio from which to watch while our room was being cleaned. The hotel staff thought of everything: free glasses, free lunch and drinks (including sangria), live music...it turned out to be a perfect spot for viewing! Well done, staff! The only downside? I'm torn between a 3 star and 4 star review. Here's why. When we arrived on a Sunday afternoon, there was a busload of what looked like spring breakers from a local high school or college. They were everywhere. They were drunk. They were pushing past me, my pregnant wife, and my son in a stroller. They thought we were different people and had conversations with us. It was a crazy nut house. The poor front desk folks seems unaffected by everything going on around them. When we showed up, they didn't seem to care that it was our first time visiting and we'd just spent 5 straight hours in a car with a screaming kid. They handed us our keys and said no more. We upgraded our room to overlook the pool. This was crucial because our baby monitor reached the pool, so we could hang out outside while little one slept in the room. The hotel provided a pack and play for our one-year-old, which was pretty great. They didn't bother setting it up in the room, but no problems there. The pack and play was obviously used, had a few stains on it. Again, no problems. Our room had a mini fridge and a microwave, both of which were sufficient. The shower was standard, the size of the room was standard, everything was fine. We tried to order dinner at their restaurant on the main floor, but I think they're only open for breakfast, which I guess makes sense in Charleston. I really liked the main outdoor area with rocking chairs that overlooked the pool and marina. Probably one of the better hotel views in Charleston. Oh yeah, they have a policy not to change the sheets until 3 days in to your stay. But we asked if they could change them 2 days in, and they did it, no questions asked. read more

Location: great. It's a $6.20 Uber to any of the main parts of inner city. If the weather is nice, walking is do-able but the first intersection is very busy so be careful Shuttle: slightly ridiculous. We used it complimentary Thursday and Friday, no one asked about tickets or reservations. The driver was so friendly and picked us up wherever we were. Then Saturday, the driver asked us for our tickets and we were told they were $5-7/each. Why would we pay that when an Uber is less than $7 for all 4 of us and drops us off right where we need?! Saturday' driver also told us "you were very lucky then because this is NOT a complimentary shuttle." Don't take the shuttle, take an Uber and save yourself some cash Service: hit or miss. The guy that checked us in was rude and didn't do the normal hotel services rundown or offer my husband his "elite reward." Others were more helpful and friendly. Noise: every night we ended up with people who extremely loud next door. We were told that they have security on site but luckily I fell asleep. Wow! Where should I begin.... my fiancé and I checked in Thursday, it's now Saturday and still no maid services. Around 4pm on 10/17/20 the water to my shower turned brown for 45 min. See video below. I call to ask the front desk what's going on and was told it's water settlement deal with it, it will clear up. No 7pm dinner reservations for us on our birthday. When we asked for another room/ and to comp our stay we were laughed at by management. Never going Marriott again. $600 plus dollars for brown water no maid services and get laughed at. Nice location looking at the beautiful view of the Marina and bridge. The pool, hot tub and fire pit are nice. Hot tub is a smaller one but cozy. Plenty of eating space in the bistro. Rooms are nice. I stayed in an extended deluxe which is spacious. Only thing missing is dishes or something if you use the microwave, and more cups for coffee. Beds and pillows are comfortable. If you want to go out you're close enough. Staff is very friendly and parking is in the garage. read more

Mehhhh it's okay. The reason I gave it three is mostly because the third floor where our room is located smells kind of moldy, our room has leak stains all over the ceiling, two of the towels provided to us were dirty (so we requested more), the iron wasn't functioning (so we requested another), & the typical toiletries that are supposed to be in a room, like lotion, were not included. Those are small minor things that I generally expect when going to hotels so I was kind of disappointed that the Marriott was lacking in that department. read more

It is worth noting on here that the front desk staff was very accommodating when our third party booking site gave us a incorrect check in time that was an hour early. Since we had driven in from four hours away, Justin the manager was understanding of the situation and helped us to get checked into a room almost immediately. Was staying downtown for a quick getaway and booked the first place I could using Marriott reward points. I lucked out for sure. The staff was great, room was clean, and the best part was the steaming hot outdoor jacuzzi - in December!!! Only drawback was the parking and the speed of the elevators. The garage parking is a bit limited. I went down to grab some coffee in the morning. When I tried to go back up, I waited at least 10 minutes for the elevator to come. Overall, great place. The most notable part of our experience at this Marriott was, Eddie, the shuttle driver. He was excellent and went above and beyond. The view of the pool and harbor were breathtaking. I loved waking up to the waterfront view. The hotel gym was very nice and even had a Pelaton. The shuttle to the downtown area ran from 7 am - 11 pm and Eddie made this the best part of the hotel stay! I will return!! read more

It was a nice hotel, but I think that the name is deceiving. The location was pretty inconvenient considering how close it was to downtown. You are right next to highways going everywhere so forget about walking. The parking is free, which is cool. read more

I am a loyal Marriott Rewards member. I really enjoyed my stay at the Courtyard in Charleston. It is right on the riverfront! Easy access to downtown. The hotel has shuttle from 8am-10pm. The front desk service was excellent. There was a bride and her wedding party staying at the hotel and there were no noise issues. They were doing some updates outside to the main sitting area but it was not a distraction. I will be sure to stay here again when in Charleston! read more

Beautiful view, nice enough room--nothing fancy. 1.5 miles to downtown is walkable, provided you have the time to burn. The issues: one elevator broken all 4 days, the other incredibly slow. We were near the elevator on 2nd floor and it took 8-10 minutes on average to get out of the hotel. This is really ridiculous if not also unsafe. I used uber frequently and they'd be waiting and waiting downstairs even though I ordered the car service as I was walking out my door. Our sink was also completely clogged. Running the water more than 30 seconds brought the level to near-flood. Try washing your face when you can barely speed-wash your hands. Tried to check out fitness center--equipment broken or not well-maintained. Can't imagine it's extremely popular so don't understand the level of wear & tear. They offer a "shuttle service" to the waterfront from the hotel. Roughly it runs every 30 mins. The issue? It's $6. Is this a joke?!?! My uber was $7 (tip included). That's me hiring a private car service, on my own time, which takes me door to door, with only a few moments notice--$1 more than sharing a rickety van with 6 strangers??? Either make it free or get rid of it. read more

Overall, its a nice Courtyard. Rooms have been upgraded to new Marriott Courtyard style, with flat screens. Property is nicer than your typical Courtyard with the courtyard area facing the waterfront where you can hangout. I don't believe breakfast should be $10+ per person at these type properties, so we skipped that. Its close enough to the real downtown Charleston by car or hotel bus, so location is fine. My only real issue was the internet access was kinda slow, and when you travel for work, fast internet is sometimes more important than a comfy bed. read more

Staff were extremely helpful and courteous: Kara or Marta, Malik, Taj, and security (just to name a few). We were a huge party of rooms staying here for my sons wedding weekend. The hotel lobby and patio area was a great gathering spot for our huge party. I liked the free lunches provided a few days during our stay, however I think continental hot breakfast would be better for hotel guests as the lunch was not well advertised or mentioned by the staff at check in, plus the Hilton right next door provides a complementary full hot breakfast. Location is gorgeous and knowing that the hotel's shuttle service to downtown area was complementary to my guest while I was busy for son's wedding was perfect. Thanks for a great stay! read more
