Checked in yesterday. Room AC didn't work properly. Fridge didn't work at all. Went downstairs to flag it and the front desk was completely unattended. Not on a break, not helping another guest. Just gone. Eventually someone showed up, and rather than help, she seemed personally offended that a guest had the nerve to have concerns. The maintenance person sent to the room spoke no English, which turned the whole thing into an elaborate game of charades that nobody won. Called the GM's office this morning at 8:47 AM. Was told he'd be in by 9 and would call back. Still waiting. Reached out to Auro Hotels corporate as well. Also waiting. Apparently getting a response operates on a different timezone here. To be fair, the waterfront views are lovely. It's a shame you can't enjoy them in a room with working air conditioning, or a lobby that actually has someone in it. This is not a hospitality problem. This is a hospitality absence. A functional room, a staffed front desk, and a staff member who can communicate with guests are not luxury requests. They are the bare minimum. Nobody here got that memo. If you're traveling solo with zero expectations, maybe fine. If you're part of a group and need things to actually work, keep looking. Management: Robert Heilman, GM. This hotel offers a shuttle service to and from downtown, which is absolutely essential coming from this location, as there is no good place to cross the 4 lanes of highway off-ramp street safely. Everything you're going to want to do in Charleston is on the other side of the peninsula. On check-in, the front desk helped us by trying to put us in a room furthest from the block of youth basketball tournament guests to give us the most comfortable stay. We appreciated this. This resulted in a slightly larger end room, but otherwise I did not receive any benefits for my Marriott status besides "thank you for your loyalty." The door to our room lacked any kind of seal around it, and the "tongue" of the handle and lock didn't properly engage with the holes in the door jam, meaning it didn't actually close securely. It also leaked light around the entire door outline and let in a fair bit of noise. It also rattled when other rooms closed their doors. We heard other rooms slam doors from 9pm through 1am, and then heard children running across the floors above us starting at 7am. There is complementary coffee in the lobby, otherwise breakfast is a paid affair, and you're better off going somewhere downtown. Pool was closed, spa was closed, and hot tub was turned off. I stayed here on a business trip in June 2025. The hotel is in a pretty nice location right on the waterfront, with a small marina that adds some charm. The lobby is clean and welcoming, and there's a small outdoor pool that's a decent spot to unwind. The rooms were fairly spacious, which I appreciated, but overall the hotel felt a bit tired and in need of maintenance. There were noticeable scuff marks, chipped paint, and a general lack of attention to detail that gave the place a slightly worn-out feel. It didn't ruin the stay, but it definitely stood out. On the positive side, the staff was friendly and helpful throughout. And considering the price point, it was adequate--but not much more. I might consider staying here again if options were limited, but I'd likely look for something a bit nicer next time around. read more

Most esthetically unappealing hotel room and those were the renovated rooms but they were clean. Bare white walls with no decorations. Add to that, no drawers. Desk staff could be unhelpful. Shuttle to downtown wonderful with pleasant drivers. The high point of the location. We arrived early in the day. The man at the front desk graciously took our luggage for storge. We returned in the early - mid afternoon, way before most people checked in. Promptly given a room. Something looked off. The beds were very low with thinner mattress. Going into the bathroom I realized that we were in a handicap accessible room that we booked by mistake. I called the front desk asking if we could move rooms. The lady at the front desk said, no.= as we requested 2 beds. I then asked to speak with manager. She said, hold on, came back a minute or so later stating, no room. I then asked again to speak with the manager. A couple of minutes later she moved us to a similar 2 bed room! We went to the new (bland room without a dresser or any drawers) room. I went to plug in devices. The 1st room had a great cube clock with #2 a/c plugs as well as USB ports! There was no clock and barely one plug behind the nightstand. I called the front desk asking about a clock. The same woman said, no clocks available. I used my usual line, I would like to speak with the manager. Hold on she said. She returned shortly to say, a clock will be delivered. Within a few minutes the man who took our luggage earlier in the day came by with a brand new clock in plastic wrapping. He went to plug it in and I saw, insuficient outlets for our needs. I asked if he could take the clock from the 1st room. He said, if no one checked in (about 10 mins had passed) he would be able to get the clock. He returned shortly with the more useful clock. Bottom line, some in the hotel are helpful. Great location, it's a 20 minute walk to downtown BUT they have a free shuttle every 30mins which worked great. Lovely hotel. Clean. Nice courtyard/meeting area. Nice pool area. Good gym. First time in Charleston or South Carolina. Came here on a business trip with a group of colleagues and we all started in different hotels Don't ask why... we just did... and I think Ingot the BEST of the lot. The staff was hospitable from the get go! From check in to turn down service to checkout. There is a great view of the river, with tons of boats moored/parked just out side the back courtyard. There is a decent pool, weight room (I should have used it more with all this delicious food this town offers), a bistro cafe and a bar. My room was comfortable. The king bed was very comfy. The view I had was great overlooking the pool and the water. I'd recommend this place for any occasion from vacationing to business.... Close to the Historic Downtown district and the Market. You do have to pay nightly for the parking garage (which came out to $8 a night), or you can park in one of two of their outdoor lots. Whether pleasure or business, as always... This is an older Marriott that needs a little TLC. The views are spectacular, the lobby and bar area are updated and really fun. The outside area is beautiful. The thing with an older Marriott you may hear your neighbors and it might not be as shiny as new ones, but the locations are almost always a win. And the beds are good and you NEVER have to worry about hot water or water pressure. Spring for the room with a water view. Maybe not the balcony, bc it isn't big enough to sit on, but nice to open the door and watch the sunset. The lobby is a great place to work if you need to get out of the room for a bit or if late check out it not an option. The staff is super friendly and the coffee down stairs is very good. read more

Beautiful location and the rooms were amazing. We were celebrating the citadel graduation. We had a yacht in the harbor. It was easy access and just overall lovely. The breakfast bistro was perfect. One of the front desk clerks. I wish I could remember her name took her job far too seriously to the point of being difficult. So I got a manager and he made everything easy where she was not. I would say overall the hotel was very accommodating, very comfortable and a lovely location.. I will definitely stay there again. read more

We have been coming down by boat for 18 yrs. 20+ boats same weekend everytime. Some visits have not been stellar but never like this one. The manager was well versed in answers to complaints but when confronted that those didn't add up, he quickly folded. I guess he is new to the hospitality business. The maintenance crew was very nice and very helpful. (They offered the fans) Surprisingly they had a lot of fans to loan,hmmm...?? 9 out of 16 rooms we had booked had little to no air conditioning. We complained we were met with lame excuses. Some were somewhat fixed. But "yay" they offered us fans for our rooms. They have a WiFi controlled a/c system that clearly needs help. They turn the air up while you are out and to have to call to complain for them to turn it back on. It is supposed to be automatic, IT IS NOT!! The "Starbucks" kitchen was sorely lacking and the lines are long. The Hilton garden inn next door had a breakfast buffet $15, well worth it. They chose to paint the patio deck on a busy Saturday. One of the elevators didn't work. The lobby bathroom had "something" on the floor all weekend?! Sad to say that after all these years we won't be back. Buyer beware read more

The rooms were clean, check in was easy, there was plenty of seats outside and inside for breakfast, lunch and dinner if you chose to eat at the hotel. The patio area over looks the marina. Great location but needs A LOT of work. The whole place smells like a dirty washcloth. This is likely in part due to being right on the water and the humidity. But there are ways to mitigate that (e.g., types of flooring, cleaning carpets more often, etc). Everything that had been done was so poorly executed it's insane. It looks like there are problem dozens of layers of paint. Paint is splattered everywhere (e.g., shower wall, floor, tub, handrails, etc). And things are just halfway completed. I'll be finding a different Marriott property when I'm there for work. read more

Room 340 Average hotel. The room was clean and tidy The card reader on the door worked once on entry. Each day we returned the card did not work. No big deal we just trotted downstairs and a new card was given. We did not complain as we knew something was wrong with the door and would be fixed. Just got a bill for room incidentals that I never consumed! The charge was incurred 2 days AFTER I checked out! I called to dispute and was told that housekeeping reported that the items were missing - I told the woman that I did not take them and she argued with me. JUST STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. Without question, Charleston is a place of exorbitant hotel prices that rival the biggest metropolises in the world. This Courtyard is an example of this theme: at rack rates, a night here on the weekend in the spring comes out to no less than $500. It may in fact be, one of the most expensive Courtyards that Marriott has branded. The first alarming sign at arrival is the fact that there isn't a lobby or a proper entrance when pulling up the car, one has to go up a dingy old elevator, then down a walkway to get to the tiny, ugly lobby. The exterior of this place looks much better than anything that's inside. Although there have clearly been renovations over the years, they've been minimal futile attempts to mask the old, musty smells that fill the hallways and rooms, as well as the deteriorating state of everything in this property, from walls to carpets to ceilings. The rooms are tiny. Status recognition or upgrades are nonexistent. Oh, and did I mention the musty smell is in the rooms as well? For a second, let's forget how much this hotel costs. Instead, put this into perspective of Marriott brand. This property is one of the worst examples in Courtyard portfolio and feels more like a 1-2 star motel than anything else. It literally does not belong to sit in Marriott brand. The things that are good are the comfortable bed, fast internet, the hot shower and the new television. Location is not too bad and the walk to old town takes about 35 minutes, part of it with a very narrow sidewalk. Thus, if you do decide to stay here and find a ridiculously low rate, make sure you are comparing it to Holiday Inn and La Quinta, not to hotels in Marriott portfolio. read more

It's Marriott, so it has the typical Marriott look and feel - with a comfy off-lobby lounge area -,with a view. It's on the water, so there are some nice views. Request a water view when booking your reservation. It''s adjacent to the hospital district, but waking to the hospitals looked like it would not be optimal because of the layout of the roads. It's just a 10 minute drive to historic downtown Charleston and some of the best restaurants anywhere. I didn't see any restaurants in walking distance, so everything will be a drive. Again, it's Marriott, so it has the typical Marriott look and feel. I enjoyed my stay at this property! The staff was welcoming and had several great restaurant suggestions.

We came during Spring Break mid April. The hotel was sold out. The Courtyard Charleston Waterfront has great views. It has a great outdoor area and that's where you can meet and mingle with other guests. I felt like this hotel was excellent for those traveling with kids of all ages. The hotel is located right outside of the historic area which was perfect. Everything was within less than 10 min drive. It's also near a main highway which made it easy to navigate around Charleston and outside of Charleston to nearby cities/counties. The hotel was super affordable and nice compared to other places I compared against including local AirBNBs. The pool is open before Memorial Day which is not common for Virginia so that was very exciting. Also there is a hot tub. Beach towels are provided by the pool for easy use. There are a lot of seating by the pool outside area including a fire pit. The outside area is what really makes this hotel. The sunset views on the water is also amazing. From the minute I checked in, the staff was very attentive and nice. Every time I called for towels, it arrived instantly to our room. On the other hand based on my friends' experience, the staff was not as attentive and accommodating. It could be because the hotel was fully booked. I also seen the front desk staff playing on their phones which I find unprofessional. As for dining, they only offer breakfast at the bistro and free coffee. I didn't try the breakfast but my friend said it was not tasty. I would have loved for them to offer lunch and dinner so that we could eat outside during sunset. It seems they do offer dinner on the weekends only. Overall, it is an affordable spot when traveling with kids or a big group. It is definitely bang for your buck. read more

5 stars because I can't give 6. I've stayed in appx 400 or so hotels in my life, and this property is easily top 10 of all time. Superb location right around downtown, on the water. We got suite which absolutely rocked, and then a regular room (which also rocked, I love sofas in hotel rooms). The pool was perfect as was the deck for chilling day or night. The bistro was great and super convenient. We also had snacks from the well-stocked store area at front. Mariah from this property, called my number I left when I first made reservation, regarding a problem; and I ended up being so glad she did, as we were able to make alternate plans. Tina checked us in and worked with us too, and was so sweet and accommodating. I HIGHLY recommend and you will understand why when you pull up to the property! read more

Toilet wasn't cleaned properly with hair and dirt on it, tv internet wasn't working, old flat pillows, and you can hear all activity in rooms next and above you. Upgrade wasn't given when suites available. Bistro food was cold in the middle, so eat elsewhere. (One benefit is a shuttle to downtown) And at checkout mentioned issues with ZERO apologies or cares given. Apparently they prefer patrons to gain other status and stay elsewhere. Wow! We drove over 7 hours to Charleston, SC. with our 1 and 2 year old and checked into our hotel room at about 945pm. Its our 1st vacation in 3 years. My wife and kids jumped into the made bed. This is the review for the coffee shop/ Starbucks inside the Courtyard hotel. The hotel is nice and staffs were friendly. We had enjoyed it. For the coffee shop/ bistro- I would say the cashier, Crystal, her attitude was awful and typical indifferent. She moves zero miles per hour and I guess she gets pay by hour so it does not matter much. However, the barista was extremely nice and helpful. I did not give 1 star because I admitted that we were slow ordering because of the kids. They could not make decisions quickly. However, we still expect professional service from Starbucks. We ordered bagel with cream cheese at the end of the list. We were waiting for it and I went back to ask the nice barista about it and Crystal heard me asking about it too. Time passed by, people around me got their orders, so I went back and asked again. Crystal said she did not charge because we already put Credit card in before she could put bagel in. So she wanted to charge me so I can get the order with smiles. I said no, thank you. It was so unfortunate and poor service. Why did not she told me the first time so I could simply pay and get the order? Also, why did not she just let me know as she had to know that we were waiting? We were in a hurry but apparently it did not matter to Starbucks employee @ Courtyard Hotel. Everyone has different agendas and I sure hope that Starbucks do train the staffs with basic customer skills. Lucky we got upgraded to the waterfront view. Basic hotel, just like any other courtyard, except this one get a nice pool and a beautiful waterfront! If you don't want to read the full review, here's the summary... if this place were a kennel, the state would've shut it down by now. The photos on this page are incredibly deceiving. This place is right next to the freeway in between two overpasses. The photos are of a king suite. The regular king sized room is tiny and very outdated. I could handle all of that if the place weren't so absolutely filthy. The first photos here of the main entrance where it looks like someone puked and it stated that way, EVEN AFTER I informed someone who identified herself as a manager, for over AN HOUR. Second, any information about a "limited bistro menu" is absolute hooey. Of course there is no bar. The "bistro" isn't open for anything other than breakfast. If you are stupid enough to prepay for breakfast like I was here is the amazing menu that two... TWO beleaguered staff members try their best to fill. These folks worked their fingers to the bone while "management" sat around and did nothing. I've posted a photo of their amazing breakfast menu which is, of course, no where on the website. There is also a photo of my wife's brown avocado toast and the eggshell that was in the scrambled eggs. Here's the main problem with having no restaurant or bar. There's nothing and I mean nothing in walking distance. Plus, because it's literally right off the dang highway, unless you feel like trying to battle interstate traffic at night in a strange city you can't even get to a McDonald's. Third, this place is in total disrepair. Here are photos of broken restrooms, hair everywhere, and the filthy, worn out tub in our room. When we arrived we found that someone tampered with the smoke detector. Photo attached. Did this horrible hotel staff do anything about it? Of course not. That should tell you all you need to know about this place. It's the kind of place where someone puts a bag over the smoke detector so they can smoke and no one notices. That's how gross it is. When I had finally had enough on the second night and went down to the front desk to ask for a tiny bit of help, the personal the desk who claimed she was the manager of the whole hotel unloaded on me. She complained about how she couldn't find anyone who wanted to work there (again another indicia of the quality of this place). And then I got a lecture about how hard the pandemic has been on everyone as of this was not the first vacation I have had in a year and a half. She then stormed off after she was done berating me. I would give zero stars if possible. There were roaches in our room. The cleaning staff walked in our room while my mother was in the restroom. It wasn't time for them to start cleaning, as we still had an hour before check out. We also had a "do not disturb" sign on our door. It seemed nice enough but these things just completely turned us away. The staff was cooperative and apologetic when we told them about the incident with the cleaning person. Loved this place. Nice quiet area with great outdoor area to lounge or have a drink or ready a book. Right by the waterfront. It is about 2miles from dowtwon, so if you want to leave your hotel and have local places to walk to, this may not be your place. It is easy to drive into the downtown area and we did not find parking too challenging. Rooms are spacious and they have cute walkout balconies with rocker chairs on your own personal patio. We only needed this hotel for one night. The pros: cheap parking, reasonable rate, and a beautiful view from then lobby level patio. The cons: not the most pleasant front desk or housekeeping staff. I went down to pick up snacks for the room at their market and the front desk attendant was not too friendly: kind of made me feel like I was bothering her. Our fourth floor room was so warm that we needed a fan and our interactions with the housekeeping staff were not great. My husband went to the front desk to ask for one (since no one answered the phone at 9 pm) and housekeeping brought it about twenty minutes later. When he opened the door he said, "oh thank you so much. You're a godsend." What was her reply? Nothing. No acknowledgement. No "you're welcome". No "have a great evening." She gave him a blank stare, radioed down to the desk and said "447 has a fan" and just walked away. Guess I shouldn't be surprised since its the same woman who barked at us getting off the elevator "go around me! I'm vacuuming!" Really?? We come to Charleston ALL the time. Its known for it's awesome hospitality. This place didnt convey it. We will never be back. read more

Had a really nice stay at this Courtyard. We specifically selected this hotel because of the pool availability, which many hotels in the downtown historic district do not have. Keep in mind that this property is about a 20 minute walk from King St/ downtown. Only suggestion would be for the pool area to be tidied up a bit each day as we noticed a bit of sand in the pool by the end of our stay. During the Covid times, the staff really stepped up. Particularly Robin B, thank you for making our trip great. Always smiling, she was happy to provide us with extra towels, local knowledge and housekeeping services. Here's what happened: 1- Sofa pull out was dirty with crumbs and I had to clean 2- bath tub was clogged 3- mattresses are old and hurt my back 4- the waterfront view I paid extra for was not worth it. It smelled like piss outside And 5- the second day they had plumbing issues which sucked bc I had to get ready for work I advised them of all and they did offer to switch my room but figured I would receive same crappy stay. Overall the room is comfortable and fairly clean. We had a corner room with a great view of the pool and marina. Building is old, leak in the bathtub faucet, mold on the patio, bathroom door is warped on the bottom from moisture. Shower liner removed one day, we asked for it to be replaced and they brought in 1 shorter than the tub. Towels are stained and when I opened a clean towel a was of someone's hair fell out. Light is falling off the console. Bistro very busy in the morning, takes an extremely long time to get food. The staff is doing their best and working hard, but 2 people are doing everything from taking orders, making coffee and preparing food. They need help! We have been Marriott rewards members for many years executive platinum at one time. Very disappointed in the Marriott pride in their properties. read more

From the minute we walked up the front steps the dirt and trash stood out. The lobby and Rooms are clean but sanitizer was in limited locations. We called the office and told them after being at three other hotels in Charleston this week this one was the least prepared for customer sanitation with only 2 hand sanitizer visible in the whole hotel. After speaking to the desk they said ones would be added at entrance doors and elevators but 24 hrs none have been added. As we visit to the pool the first day it was a wreck debri floating in the pool, cigarettes around the pool deck and visible not cleaning in days. I called the office to report the condition of the pool and after hours my husband started cleaning it so we could enjoy the visit. The next morning again the pool was a disaster with food, cigars, cigarettes and various wrappers all over the place. We called the office again with the same answer, someone will be down to clean up and the same response nothing so we left without getting in the pool. This was utterly ridiculous and will have a problem giving this resort a second chance.I thought you would want to know this property does not represent the Marriott name I am a platinum elite and a Hilton member, the Hilton next door was an option but we chose Marriott and had 7 family members join us. It is embarrassing when we chose the property to have such a let down. They did not tell us at check in no service so we asked for clean towels and got them 2 hours later after I showered to go to Magnolias. Arrived here and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The decor was new and fresh. On the floor of our room smelled weird. I jokingly called it THE FROGMORE COTTAGE WING. It smelled like a dirty pond with frogs. The room was adequate, quiet with a nice balcony overlooking the pool and marina. This was not a full service hotel. They had funky hours for serving meals. We were always just missing breakfast, lunch or dinner. That was frustrating. read more
