Stayed here for two nights (Friday and Saturday) while in Detroit for a basketball tournament, as this was the hotel with the team room block. Our rate was about $160 per night for a two-queen room on the second floor. The room itself was simple but comfortable. It included one TV, a mini fridge, and a balcony, ours overlooked a nearby restaurant. One standout for me was the shower, which had multiple settings and made for a really nice, relaxing experience. The hotel offers several amenities including a 24/7 fitness center, pool, jacuzzi, and an outdoor courtyard with seating and a gas grill. The lobby area was a great space to unwind, comfortable seating, tables, and even a fireplace that they turned on in the evening, which added a cozy touch. Breakfast was included with our reservation and provided in a convenient grab-and-go bag with a breakfast sandwich, banana, granola bar, and apple juice (I swapped mine for coffee). They also have additional items available for purchase. The lobby has both table seating and booth-style options if you want to sit and eat. Service here really stood out. The front desk staff was friendly and helpful, especially Rona, who had a great personality and made sure we had everything we needed. We requested extra towels and room keys with no issues, and when we called for additional linens, they were brought up promptly. Parking was easy and convenient, with spaces available all around the property. This is a smaller hotel and not overly fancy, but it was comfortable, and met our needs accordingly for the weekend. read more

To start off with, we loved, loved, loved the staff here! The women were so friendly. They helped us find restaurants, asked how our day went, showed us pictures of their kids. A very sweet staff here indeed and I can only imagine if something went wrong they would go out of their way to make things right. But nothing went wrong for us! My boyfriend is some sort of Titanium ranking so they upgraded us to a room with a couch because there were no suites available. We had a nice little balcony overlooking the actual courtyard (silly me, I didn't know there was an actual courtyard at a Courtyard Marriot.) False advertisement a reserved a queen size bed I got a full size bed I actually measured it I asked the front desk about it and they said this is a hotel and this is the size of beds we have they were very rude. I asked them about getting an additional room but they said that I could not get into it at that time without paying an extra $50 on top of the room fee. Also they charge you $10 just to park your vehicle to use their hotel that's ridiculous and the pavement is broke right next to handicap parking spot there's a grid that's coming up my handicapped mother almost fell. Never again and I do not recommend this place. read more

Had an appointment in downtown Detroit and opted to stay here. It was in a safe area and 10 minutes to Somerset area. The courtyard area was very nice. They had fire pits and private seating areas. We had a 2nd floor, balcony, court view. The room was clean and beds were comfy. The room coffee is bad. Real bad. There is only 1 elevator so there is potentially walking or stairs. We looked and looked and looked and never did find an ice machine. The mini fridge was clean & came in handy. I would stay there again. read more

Check in was a breeze and they were able to accommodate a friend and I with rooms close together (right across the hall in fact). The room was a bit dated, but most importantly the room was clean. Comfy beds and comfy pillows. The in room AC unit did a great job warming the space. There is an indoor pool, it also looked a bit dated. Lobby area has a small bar that serves breakfast and dinner items. It's not served out of a full kitchen, rather they make things and use a little oven. I wasn't impressed with the appetizers for dinner that we grabbed with drinks, which is where they lost a star. If you want a good dinner you'll have to leave the hotel. For drinks, the bar is just fine though the selection is limited. All in all it was a good stay. read more

My best friend and I have birthdays four days apart and we wanted a little getaway with her two daughters. We had such a great experience here! Everyone we encountered at the hotel was friendly, courteous, helpful, and respectful from front desk staff, the gentleman who helped us with our luggage, the kitchen/Starbucks staff, and maid service. And really, besides the cleanliness of the rooms, most hotels especially of a chain, are so similar that it's the customer service that I appreciate so much and that sets the exceptional ones apart and that I would recommend to others. Rooms were very clean, comfortable, and updated. Pool and whirlpool were relaxing. I could have done with a hotter temperature for the hot tub but it was still enjoyable. There's a little pantry with snacks and other essential items but we got breakfast from the Starbucks kitchen. There is a limited menu right now but we all found something we could eat. read more

Let me see, where to start! 3 1/2 days in the hotel, not one change of towels, or bedding, and never cleaned, and we did ask for towels, bedding and cleaning. The single elevator requires a walk through what seems like a maze similar to a scene out of the Shining - no elevator in or near the lobby. FYI, the elevator comes with a sign reminding guests that it can only carry 2 persons. The 24-hour Starbucks - forget it, or as I told my daughter it is only open 24-hours, if someone is staffing it and provides service - no such luck. At 7:30 am, prime breakfast time, which is at the counter where Starbucks is located, only had one person working, and after waiting 15 minutes, and being ignored, as I tried to get a coffee, I finally gave up. read more

Giving 2 stars because of the really nice staff. I put some of my employees here when we visit Detroit. Tired old property, needs a remodel, scratched doors, dirty carpet, smelly everywhere. Room was clean, but tired and smelled of years of other guests. Worn out chair, nasty carpet, felt dirty even though it was cleaned. But the real problem is that it is a PARTY HOTEL. Parties every night, lots of noise, and apparently no attempt to calm them down. So if you are a business traveler, stay away. ANY of the other properties in this area are better. read more

Stayed here for one night and found the front desk person not friendly at all, a very poor check-in experience. The room was decent sized, but because there was a noise from what seemed to be coming from the heating unit, it kept us up all night. We advised front desk management who were quick to respond, but what did they say?--"we haven't heard any other complaints". Not something a paying customer likes to hear, or is very helpful. They said they would have their engineer look at it and didn't provide much for the sleepless night. read more

This location continues to get by with just a three star review - not sure if I'll ever raise it - seems more likely I will reduce it in the future. The staff remains good, but this time the pool area was horrible - so much so that I could not use the pool or the hot tub! I did speak with a member of management, but an immediate solution was not found. There is another Marriott property being built right down the road and if it's open when I return I might check it out and give up on this place! read more

I will never stay at this Marriott property again. The hotel is fine but the evening front desk woman is rude, has an attitude and extremely unprofessional. Her name is Dushana. There was a mix up in my family's reservation and we had already straightened it out once ( we thought) only to find out they had given our reserved rooms or another guest. Instead of apologizing and acting professionally, Dushana copped an attitude and kept insisting that it wasn't her fault and she couldn't tell us why the rooms were given away. No one said it was her fault but certainly, come up with a suitable solution-- that's your job. It took the general manager to come over to sort it out. The GM was certainly more pleasant. Dushana, maintained her attitude for the duration of our stay. I frequently tout how great Marriott is but I'll never stay at this courtyard again. Dushana ruined the experience. read more

This is a great place to stay in Troy MI. The property is really nice and has great amenities. Our only complaint was the comfort of the beds and quality of the linens. So many of the nicer hotels are putting a lot of effort into the comfort and quality of the bed and linens. Again, great place but they need to fix this one issue in my opinion. Hotel was what you would expect from this brand. Front desk staff was VERY helpful, as there were several disabled hockey teams staying for 4 nights. Very accommodating, allowed us full use of their dining area and lounge. Rooms were spacious enough, and thankfully, plenty of accessible outlets for charging phones, etc (pet peeve of mine in hotels!) The only downside would be the location of the elevator. The elevator is in the back corner of the property, meaning, if the hotel is full and you need the elevator, but your room is on the front side of the property... you'll be walking the length of the property twice to get to and from your room. Again, this certainly is not the fault of the manager or staff, but just a really poor design flaw. Would be a 5-star review if not for this. read more

No free breakfast and full of disrespectful young hockey players. Didn't get to use the pool because of the chaos of unaccompanied kids rough housing in the pool. Kids knocking on doors and running during the night. Very disappointed that the staff was rude about complaints of the kids and didn't do anything about them. We have been very loyal to this hotel for years but now, I'm not so sure we will continue going there with so many options in the area. read more

It's kind of in the boonies... but it's actually pretty nice. I was only there for a day but I got a really nice upgrade. Staff was nice- they forgot to modify one of my rates, but they corrected their mistake on good faith in the morning when I brought it to their attention. I will say, however, that there is this "thing" called "The Michigan Left"... and when you're driving, basically, you can't make left turns at lights anywhere. So you have to PASS where you are going, then flip a bitch in these specialized lanes and then turn your way to where you are going. It's not "The Michigan Left". No, I have nicknamed it "The Michigan Stupid". So when I see I have to go out of my way to navigate basic streets it's pretty god damn annoying. So I am knocking this courtyard and everything else in Michigan for their idiotic road design. read more

This was home away from home for me for a total of 3 weeks (3 separate trips) for business. The staff here is outstanding and extremely accommodating. Facility is nice and for the most part, well kept. Also, the price is right - I'd stay here again. Free WIFI and HBO are great. My only complaints are the lack of enforcement of pool and spa policy, specifically with children. There is supposed to be an hour at the end of each night where only adults are authorized to use the pool. Most nights, there were kids at the pool until closing. I don't mind kids at all, but it's hard to unwind with a dozen of them jumping in and out of the pool and hot tub. Also, my last room smelled pretty bad of cigarettes, even though it was a non-smoking room. I'm pretty sure they would have swapped the room for me if I had mentioned it, but it was only a one-night stay and I was exhausted. Again, these are minor complaints for me. Quick and easy check in. The rooms weren't bad, although having the TV perpendicular to the bed seems like an odd choice. Plenty of amenities and well kept. The front desk staff are very nice. Any hotel that makes traveling easier or less stressful is good in my eyes. The reason why this review is 4 stars is because I found a giant long black hair in my bed. While I simply picked it up and moved it, the contrast should have been easy to spot and taken care of before I discovered it. read more

When I checked in, the room that I was originally assigned was the FIRST room off of the lobby. Meaning this would ensure absolutely no privacy for my husband and I. Other guests frequented the halls incessantly. Small children were running and playing in the main hallway outside my door throwing ice cubes and screaming. I went back to the front desk and asked to be moved to a quieter, more private room. To my utmost disappointment I was placed in a room on the 2nd floor EXACTLY next to an enclave containing an unfortunate cluster of the elevator, the ice machine, Housekeeping's laundry room and the main stairwell. Because I was running on a restricted schedule in order to make it on time to a concert that evening, I had neither the time, strength or wherewithal to go back downstairs and request another room. Later on that evening, after returning from the concert, my husband and I endured a long night of intermittent sleep due to the excruciating sounds of the constant ringing of the elevator, the drunken, boisterously loud guests embarking/debarking the elevator, the constant roar, crash and refill of the ice machine and its motor, the whirling of the washing machines and dryers in the laundry room, and the opening and slamming of the door to the main stairwell. As a courtesy to your guests. If there are no other rooms available on a floor, the representatives at the front desk should make the guest who's checking in aware that they are being place in a room that unfortunately sits in a high-traffic, noisy area. Thus giving the guest the option of choosing to stay in that room, instead of taking their free will by placing them in an undesirable location and expecting them to just deal with it. I felt that my comfort and the comfort of my husband was of no concern to the front desk staff. I felt as if I was just thrown into a room with absolutely no consideration whatsoever as to my privacy, the serenity of a peaceful sleep or comfort. In the future, it would be a best practice to advise your guests BEFORE THEY REACH THE ROOM that the room they have been assigned to may not be the best option if they are expecting privacy and quiet. However, if the representatives have no way of knowing where a room sits as it relates to high traffic, noisy areas, maybe it would be best practice to implement some type of system that would allow guest services to easily indicate where a room is through a labeling system or map of the hotel grounds. read more

After 23 rooms booked for a wedding, the ASM of the hotel decided to kick us out. We got blamed for some teenager peeing outside. The ASM is not professional nor intellectual enough to recognize the guest staying at the hotel. Sadly to say, the experience was bloody awful and we were threatened to be kick out for no reason and we were second guess about our stay. read more

We are here for two nights (Friday & Saturday), and we've got a group of like 8 ppl. Fun times. I think we will enjoy using the pool. Beds seem comfy enough especially considering we've been sleeping on cots at camp for the past month. Thank goodness for the occasional weekend off. We are gonna enjoy this town. read more

Like I said move two blocks down the road to the Holiday Inn Express. You won't have to call the Police at 11:30 pm to have the noise and kids quite down so you can sleep on a Saturday Night. Here for a week, October 2014, what you expect from a courtyard. Won't stay here again though. The problem is trying to get breakfast in the morning. I can hear other people complaining. 20 minute wait in line for coffee and "ok" food in the morning. Unless you have an extra 20 min to wait in a cluster f, unorganized line don't stay here. In southern Michigan on business this week, I'd left my hotel stays kind of fluid as I was setting up meetings on the fly. When one got cancelled, it made more sense for me to head back to the Dearborn area, so I was looking to make reservations late Monday for a Tuesday night stay. The closest Marriott property showing vacancy was over 40 miles from Dearborn. I started looking at other brands, and wasn't finding anything suitable. I called Marriott's elite reservations line and the helpful associate found me a room in Troy - not quite Dearborn, but close enough. I was grateful for the find and the help. Courtyard's were my go-to property in the late 90s, but I haven't been fond of them in recent years. But I wasn't complaining - I had a room when I'd begun to have my doubts. Given the cancelled meeting, I was without a base from which to work late Tuesday morning. I headed over to this Courtyard, figuring I'd work in the lobby until my room was available (I had *not* requested early checkin when making the reservation.) When I showed up at around 11am, I went to the front desk and explained I had a reservation for that night, asked for an OK to work in the lobby until my room was available (I know they routinely allow this, but I also do the courtesy of asking before just setting up camp), and that if possible, I'd appreciate an early checkin. The associate at the desk - Kandice - was extremely welcoming and helpful. She explained that the property was sold out and explained that there were both Lions and Tigers games and the very large Intelligent Transportation Systems conference was in town and rooms were at a premium. She explained that checkout isn't until noon and because they were sold out, she couldn't accomodate me yet. I had no expectation of getting in that early, but appreciated her explanation. I went off to a quiet corner in the lobby, pulled out the computer, and got to work. To my surprise, Kandice came and tracked me down just after noon saying she had a room for me. After I finished a work call, I packed up and checked in. My room was very nice - even a balcony facing the courtyard. Clean renovated, comfortable beds, very functional bathroom and sink area. Though the hotel was full, I found things very quiet. Others complain of thin walls; maybe I was lucky and just had quiet neighbors, but this was no issue for me. This was a very different experience from my last Courtyard stay, which was in Colorado several months ago. The rate seemed a bit pricey for the area, but that could have been because of the very heavy demand. Overall, great hotel, and my stay was really enhanced by the front desk associate, Kandice, who is truly a standout and represents the Courtyard and Marriott brands wonderfully. read more

I love this Marriott. I am a very picky woman about updated decor and white comfy beds. This complex is newly renovated (pictures on Yelp do not show that) and they did it well. It's modern, clean and a nice complex. Nice pool area with hot tub, cute cafe in the lobby, nice courtyard and patio area with grill. My husband and I needed a night away and this fit the bill. Highly recommend and I will stay again. read more

A typical Marriott Courtyard recently redecorated. The sleeping area is good sized and the bed comfortable. The bath is the typical Courtyard layout where the closet interferes with the lavatory in one room and the tub and toilet are in a large adjoining space. There is little room for luggage. The climate control is noisy, a through the wall unit. This particular Courtyard ran several unnecessary authorizations on my credit card as I was paying with points one would have sufficed. Unlike most other hotels at this price point breakfast is not included. read more
