Cardio only in the fitness room!
    Kevin M.

The Harrisonburg Courtyard is what you would expect from the Courtyard chain of hotels. I received a friendly greeting when o walked in. Check in was easy and went without a problem. The room was normal- nothing special. I would say, though, that this Courtyard seems to be in need of a refresh. It's old. I could here the person in the room next to mine getting ready in the morning and showering. It was very loud. The washcloths and towels are worn pretty thin. The fitness room is equipped with two worn down LifeFitness treadmills and a LifeFitness elliptical, which isn't completely operable at the moment. No weights. When I got off the elevator to go to the fitness room I was met with some loud static-infused 70s-like music coming from the speaker system throughout the first floor. That was weird. All in all, this hotel is probably OK for a night, but I probably wouldn't spend multiple nights here.

My stay here was extremely pleasant and accommodating. Friendly staff. Clean rooms. Pool (huge plus for kids). Hot tub(huge plus for me!). Fitness Center. Bar. Mini fridge in room. Starbucks. The lobby has upgraded (contemporary) since the pics on Yelp. No folder in the room showing local things to do, restaurants or menus. Front desk had a list of restaurants that deliver but, was on my own to find menus online. Not as shocked but, no microwave. No breakfast included. Separate menu from their bar, The Bistro. I posted pic. Overall, great facility and I would definitely come back.

This is a great Courtyard. It is completely renovated and super clean. Check-in was a breeze when using the Marriott App. We walked in and picked up our keys. They use your credit card on file. The location is great if you like to be around a lot of shopping. Their downtown area is just minutes away and has lots of great eating choices.

Great amenities if staying for a while.

The facilities were very nice--exactly what we've come to expect from a Marriott property. What truly stood out, however, was the staff. Our experience started with Amber at check-in. She was professional, efficient, and genuinely welcoming. As our stay continued, we realized that the exceptional service wasn't unique to her--it was reflected in every member of the team we encountered. During our stay, the extreme heat caused a temporary outage of the air conditioning in the hallways. The staff quickly mitigated the issue by placing portable units throughout the halls. As we passed members of the third-floor team, they were proactive in acknowledging the situation, explaining that it was being addressed, and, most importantly, asking if there was anything they could do to make our stay more comfortable. That level of attentiveness and care made a lasting impression. Our stay ended just as it began, with Amber checking us out. She was every bit as friendly, professional, and efficient at check-out as she had been at check-in. We usually stay at another hotel when we visit Harrisonburg, but after this experience, the Fairfield will be our first choice whenever rooms are available. Outstanding job by the entire team--we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Check-in was done online but despite arriving at 9:00 pm we were not assigned a room online. We went to the front desk and were given our room and physical keys. We got to our room and it was VERY warm inside. I immediately went to the wall thermostat and it had a black screen and was clearly not connected. I went to the unit attached to the wall/window and it was set to 70° and it was not 70° in the room. We called the desk and they said they would call maintenance, which they did. He arrived about an hour later and noted it clearly was not cooling. He began to look at the unit and noticed it was on 'fan' and not 'cool'. He had no idea why it was on fan. Fortunately it began to cool. I asked about the wall unit thermostat control and he said that as they began to fail in rooms they were disconnected. Not good. While we were waiting for maintenance the front desk clerk said they were adding 10,000 points to my rewards which I appreciated. When we finally got ready for bed, the pillows were the flimsiest pillows I have ever seen in a Marriott property and we asked for 'real' pillows, which the staff brought up. The pillows they brought up were what the room pillows should have been like. On Saturday we took showers and were shocked that the towels were almost see through with worn tears and rips in them. Again, not consistent with Marriott standards. We were gone for the day and when we got back that night we jumped on the elevator with two other folks before the doors closed - then we all realized - the doors wouldn't close. I went to the front desk to tell the clerk and she said 'yeah, we know' and then went back to using her phone. I asked if they were going to put a sign on it and was told 'we'll get to it'. I told the other guests the response and they were not happy either. We got back to our room and couldn't use any streaming devices because the tv said 'unable to connect to the internet'. We called the front desk and they said they would have someone look at it the next day. We were gone all day on Sunday and when we returned housekeeping had serviced our room which was great - no issues there. The streaming worked fine on the tv so we presumed it was corrected. We were gone most of the day on Monday. When we returned the tv was back to the 'unable to connect to the internet' again. As on Saturday night we couldn't log in to our Netflix, Prime or Pandora accounts - couldn't even get to those screens. We again called the front desk and were again told that someone would check it out the next day and were told they were adding another 10,000 points which was appreciated but it was becoming clear the property had problems and the answer was adding points. A mixed 'solution' We got up Tuesday and I had a folio in my email in-box which surprised me because when I originally booked the reservation on-line it did erroneously (probably my error) indicate a checkout of Tuesday. When I got the email confirmation on March 17, 2025 at 9:17 am I reached out to Marriott and they said I could contact the property directly, which I did on March 17, 2025 at 10:30 am (CST). When I contacted the front desk, I was told they were sold out and we'd have to move to a different room with double beds. I asked to talk to the GM and Franita Tanner (the GM) said that was the case. When I explained what happened on the reservation, she said 'it looks like you booked online' - no kidding - I had just explained all that to her - it was as though she wasn't listening. She confirmed that we would have to move rooms if we wanted to stay. I told her we'd had problems and she said 'I see that' and then went on to essentially say that we were the only guests who had any problems; that the reservation, internet, room AC, pillows, towels, etc. were our issues and nobody else had issues. Wow! I asked her if this property had been given a Marriott waiver from having to 'refresh' their rooms because they were clearly not up to Marriott requirements - she said 'no' Ultimately we opted to stay at another hotel for Tuesday night. Aside from the clerk on her phone and the GM, the staff were all helpful, friendly and polite. The rooms were clearly old - the furnishings were mish-mashed; the only outlets by the bed were one electrical outlet in the lamp on each nightstand - there were no USB chargers anywhere. The pillows, as discussed, needed to be changed out a long time ago. The towels were clearly over-used and should have been replaced. Not sure what the deal is with the internet. We would definitely not return to this property. But for some of the great staff, this would have been a '1-Star' review.
