The Courtyard by Marriott is one of the preferred hotels for the company I work for. I travel a good bit for work so I've been a guest at several. Recently I was a guest at Courtyard by Marriott Northwest in Indy. I was a guest here for 6 days I would have to say it has to be my least favorite of them all. The hosting staff was good but this hotel could us some updating and a new maintenance staff, I pointed out a few dislike to the hostess at the front desk she advised that she would put in a work order to address my concerns. Daily when I returned to hotel she would ask if the work had been completed I advised it had not after the third day she apologized and said she would talk to someone but it was her last day working there. The things I pointed out never got addressed I just had to deal with it and be unsatisfied. I'll pick another hotel should I ever return to Indy.

We stayed here for 5 nights and could not wait to leave. The staff is friendly but the rooms are filthy! Awful!

The creamery / dairy is such a cool addition to the whole experience. They make their own ice cream and various cheeses. They offered them on a cheese charcuterie board for an appetizer. The place sits on a large and very pretty plot of property. The cows are adorable and they have my favorite cows - the cute and sweet brown Swiss and Jersey breeds. The restaurant is vast and the atmosphere is comfy and rustic. The food was great and everyone seemed to enjoy it. It was all well prepared. We tried the fish, burger, mac and cheese and scallops pasta dish. I had a filet steak and it was wonderful. The staff were very knowledgeable and so helpful and friendly. They have a gift shop and sell many cool handmade items like lotions, soaps and food. If I am ever back in this area, I will absolutely come back.

According to the salesperson at the store this is the first USDA-certified organic dairy farm in Indiana. They have different areas you can visit, The Loft which is the restaurant, the dairy bar which is a small place to get your desserts and the farm store, all the places is a little bit crowded, a cozy place. We only got desserts as we had other dinner plans we got some milkshake, scoop of ice cream, soda float, and a small cup of their organic chocolate milk All were delicious and very very tasty Outside you can meet some of their animals, they have a big old red barn that houses baby calves and there's some chickens and if you go in further to the property you can see the big cows

Ginger Event Center - Outside view from parking lot

I had the chance to attend a wedding reception at Ginger Event Center, a Northwest side of Indy…read moreevent center near St. Vincent Hospital that offers a fairly straightforward set-up in terms of modest-sized events. Ginger Event Center is honestly what I'd call a more "working class" event center. It's nice, though I'd hesitate to call it anything resembling luxurious. For a young couple starting out, it was a solid option for a simple yet meaningful wedding reception that offered enough room to have fun, socialize, and also honor the current climate of social distancing. The good news is that a Ginger Event Center rental is a full-day rental. These days, it seems like most venues are doing rentals for a few hours or a 1/2 day or whatever. With Ginger, you get the day. The venue is wheelchair friendly including an accessible restroom stall. As a wheelchair user, you'd be amazed how often this is not the case even in high-end event centers. They offer linen rental. You can bring in your own food, own beverages, and alcohol (though they do have bar packages and a cool bar area). They have ample free parking. Ginger provides tables and chairs and everything was set up nicely upon arrival. The owner will recommend vendors if you need help. From what my friends noted, the owner was quite helpful. Ginger also includes an audio-visual system (somewhat low-to-mid range in my estimation), a dressing room, a patio area (admittedly, not the most attractive area for a patio), a food prep area, and a bar area. Seating square footage is around 3,500 square feet. Typical capacity is around 200 with a dance floor (which was used in the event I attended). I would say Ginger is a solid option for the area. It's certainly not a destination event center. If you're seeking high-end, look elsewhere. However, this is an attractive and functional event center for small to moderate-sized weddings, special events, religious celebrations, etc. I'm not aware that they have a non-profit rate and I doubt I'd do much in the way of "performance" type events here. However, it served nicely for this very special evening and, most importantly, the newly married couple was happy to gather with family and friends.

The 4,000 sq. ft. venue rents for $1,500 and provides tables and chairs and everything else is the renters responsibility including tableware and clean up. The owner has vendors he can recommend if you do not have your own. This is an unusual concept compared to most other venues we've worked with. The dining tables were set up and dressed when we were there. There isn't a lobby so you walk directly into the room. The room is basically split into two large areas for dining tables and a versatile open floor (think dance floor or silent auction tables), a nice bar area, a very small kitchen, a nice men and women's restroom and a tiny open area in front of the restrooms which I didn't think should be congested. All unloading/loading of supplies has to go through the front door as their large storage unit sits at the back door. You can enter here but you can't pull up close to the door. Not a problem unless you're unloading trucks of silent auction items plus much more in our case. The owner was pleasant and working with several of us during my appointment. He answered all of our questions and had setup ideas trying to help me resolve the issues I saw due to space restraints. With all of our space requirements, it was determined the venue was just to small for our annual auction. In addition, we'd need a ton more volunteers for catering, bussers, servers and bartenders or increase our budget. Great concept for those who prefer to take control of the catering, bar, and manage every aspect of your event.

    Coxhall Mansion - The Mansion

    Coxhall Mansion

It's probably not surprising that Coxhall Mansion is within the Coxhall Gardens location in Carmel…read more Both are event venues exclusive to Ritz Charles, though they fall under the Hamilton County Parks leadership. I stumbled across it today while out driving around and waiting for an event I was attending. The mansion is a historic mansion that was inspired by the Governor's Mansion in Williamsburg, VA. It has multiple options for several events and has been updated by Hamilton County Parks. From the looks of things, those updates continue to be implemented. As a historic mansion, accessibility isn't perfect. Things have been made as accessible as possible - Hamilton County, in general, tries to do that. Event space on the main floor has space for 80 people for a sit-down event. If the patio is included, you could have 100 sit-down or 120 standing. There's also a third-floor music room that has space for 40 sit-down. If you need a larger space, Coxhall Gardens has several other options including an amphitheatre. It's super weird to think that this was a home. The land started with the John Williams family (No, not the Star Wars composer). They were early Hamilton County settlers and moved here in 1855. 10 years later, they built the Victorian home that still stands. Bricks were even made on-site. In 1958, a 40-year-old Jesse Cox and his wife would make a bid on the property - it was initially denied, however, a year later the property was still for sale. Finally, they were able to acquire it. In 1999, they donated it to Hamilton County Parks. Due to its historic nature, the mansion is often viewed separately from the rest of the gardens. This entire complex is pretty mesmerizing, however, Carmel has a long history of weaving together luxury, history, and practicality and this mansion is a great example.

I will admit that the food is a bit on the pricey end but oh well. The pizza is good though. They have a private parking lot there, but it gets packed during peak hours. I came on a Saturday afternoon and ended up parking in the lot across the street. You must have their socks to participate in the fun. Everyone must also fill out a waiver and spectators must also pay to enter the slide area (which is different from other similar parks that I have been to. To save time, I recommend completing the waiver online. The place was very chaotic when I was there. There was kids all over the place. The lines for the slides did move relatively quickly though. The staff there, from top to bottom is very friendly, helpful and welcoming. I was very impressed, especially considering that they deal with screaming kids all day. Great job to them and whoever does the hiring. For those having a party there, you are giving a dedicated table with a server. The party area is in an open fenced off area. They do not have party rooms. There are a few places in the play area for caregivers to sit while the little play, but those places few and far between. The slides there are awesome. They are huge and some can appear a bit intimidating. I wish I had a place like this when I was little. They also have a small zip line, a two basketball courts. There is also an area for little kids to play as well. I really like this places vibe. It is relatively clean and trendy, with big murals all over the walls. I sure hope that the Greenwood location, that they have been talking about for years opens soon. Either way, I am sure that I will be back to this place very soon.

There's a concession stand with icee, soda, pizza, chips, etc. To snack on. I'm not sure if you can bring in your own food or not. Lastly, the adults can slide too if they want! If not, there are plenty of chairs, benches and take areas for you to sit. Be aware, it's VERY loud inside. Screaming, yelling, crying, excitement... bring a book or play on your phone!
