Room was nice but I asked for a room close to the elevator and while the lady said she had a room by the elevator I still ended up at the end of the hall. The gym sucks, it's missing weights and it was crazy hot I there. The worst part was the bar/food area. The lady had to be the rudest person ever... black lady with an attitude! I was nice, courteous, and even made it a point to be extra careful with my words but she just seemed to be hating life, her job or both.... I asked if she could put the football game and and she let out a big sigh like I was bothering herNever again! Only because of the experience at the food place .

We stayed here because parking is free. It's ridiculous how even other Courtyard properties charge for parking. We should have maybe looked for another Marriott property that has free parking and breakfast but oh well. We are platinum so they upgraded us to a suite and gave us a $10 credit at the Bistro. Room had a horrible smell on entry like they were trying to mask smoking odor. We got used to it. Rooms are nice. Bed is comfortable. Bathroom is clean. Toilet had one of those commercial toilet seats with a notch in it which we thought was weird. I've seen less clean rooms at Westin hotels before. All in all a decent place to stay and value is good.

I have to admit - I have never stayed in a Marriott that was in so much need of a face lift. First, as soon as I checked in, I was told that an email was sent informing about the repairs the place was undergoing (never got that email) - not a good sign. Even before, I arrived late and there was no place to park as tractor trailers and dumpsters had occupied several spots due to ongoing construction. The elevator, the room, the ceiling, the carpet, almost everything had decent wear. The tub faucet in room was leaky and the drip noise was muffled my a towel kept just below. How often do you get to see that at a Marriott? How often do you get to see that anywhere - period. Overall tho, the staff was still nice and welcoming. It's just the age, repairs, and the overall dilapidated feel made for a sub-par Marriott experience.

Their bistro is a great set up. Great open seating and very friendly staff. Food was fresh and coffee was hot.

Room - queen bed; no sofa or chair.

Absolutely horrible experience! I booked the room through Orbitz and stayed from December 30-31, 2023. When I checked in, I requested a quiet room on an upper floor. The woman at the desk said that was not possible and that there was only one room for my booking. The reservation through Orbitz was non-refundable. The room was located on the first floor, literally next to the restaurant kitchen and across from the gym. It had a single queen bed with no chair/couch/sitting area. It is likely the worst room in the hotel. Going into the evening, there was loud music coming from the kitchen. At 2AM, the car alarm outside went off. At 2:30 AM, the couple in the room next to mine were yelling at each other. At that point, I requested to switch rooms and got a much better one from a different person working the front desk. I wonder whether I was treated poorly by the initial person at the front desk due to being a person of color.

I just stayed three nights Jul 24-27, 2026. The hold deposit was $250.00. My first stay after check-out, the money was back on my card in three days. This time, after checking with my bank, the hold is still pending after 4 days. My bank said to call the hotel. no one answered for 11 minutes. I tried a few minutes later and I got someone who just ended telling me to wait 3-7 days, but if I don't have my money back to call my bank. The bank is waiting for them to release the hold. She didn't even ask me my name. I told her the dates I stayed there and when I checked out. I don't have a lot of confidence in the front desk that is there now. they are not the same people I had last year. Day 7 of M-F working day will be August 5th. If my money is still on hold, I will contact their corporate headquarters in Atlanta. Maybe the front desk needs new hires. I paid for the room in advance weeks before. At the front desk initially, I was denied because my visa didn't have a chip. She eventually accepted it, thank God. You don't get the hotel payment back and I didn't have a reservation anywhere else. Waiting for the hold release is stressing me out because I don't know if they even started a hold release. I was just told to wait the 3-7 days. My next visit to the SF Bay Area, I will stay somewhere else. I have traveled the world and never had this problem. Some places check the room, and you get your security deposit back the same day, especially if they took cash. I hope these people are not crooks! Just wanted to add my check-in was ok. The young guy I had at check-out didn't give me my receipt. I emailed for a copy and they have not responded. My bank is just waiting for the hold release, me too!

I will go as far as to say I won't stay anywhere else in all of Richmond. This place is so close to all the cute shops and yummy restaurants that Pt Richmond has to offer and the price is very reasonable. It's actually two separate buildings. One is the historic hotel plus restaurant, and there's a smaller annex just a few steps away on another street. I've always stayed in the annex, but someday I'll book the main hotel. If you're ever in this area, don't hesitate to stay here. You'll be glad you did. I think it's wonderful.

The hotel originally closed due to a fire in 1971, but it reopened in 1978. The hotel came under new ownership in 2013 and had a brief shutdown during the COVID-19 pandemic. The restaurant space was leased out in 2023 and reopened as Biancoverde at Hotel Mac. [Check in]: Our party had one of the most interesting hotel check-in experiences. I originally booked through the Capital One Travel portal. Unlike other standard hotels, this hotel has no front desk. Guests planning to arrive outside of normal check-in hours are supposed to receive an email within 24 hours before arrival with check-in instructions and an access code. The hotel does not allow check-in after 12 AM and the room is ready at 3 PM. Our party arrived at the Hotel Mac at 8:45 PM only to realize that the front entrance (Washington Ave) is for the restaurant (Biancoverde) while the side entrance (Cottage Ave) is for hotel lodging. I pushed the "Ring for Manager" button but received no immediate response. After waiting for two minutes, a lady got out of her parked car on the street and said that she had been out and heard the doorbell ring. [Issues with check in]: Apparently the manager said she was unable to send me instructions by phone or email because I booked through Capital One Travel and the platform didn't show my actual email and phone number. Once I gave the manager my phone number, I received the full instructions. It was not until this moment that I realized our party was going to stay in the Hotel Mac Annex rather than the actual Hotel Mac. Our party had no trouble getting into the Hotel Mac Annex as the entire check-in process was contactless. The building's front door code, room code, location of the annex, location and entry codes for the designated parking lot, and Wi-Fi password were provided by text. [Parking]: The parking lot right next to the Hotel Mac restaurant is for restaurant customers only. The actual hotel parking lot is a gated lot just steps away (21 Washington Ave) with a gate entry code and a separate pedestrian gate code. [Price]: Approximately $185 per night for a queen bed at the Hotel Mac Annex (36 Railroad Ave). [Experience]: I was able to hear railroad sounds, so I recommend not leaving the window open. Our party could not hear much outside noise once the windows were closed and the hotel also provided disposable earplugs next to the bed. The old-school central AC controls was functional and the room was nice & cool at 70°F. The shower water pressure was good and the water was hot. It would have been nice if one of the bottles had been labeled as body wash or conditioner. Hang the "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door to skip housekeeping service. The text message included a number to text for any issues. No microwave, but there was a K-Cup machine. The hair dryer and mini-fridge were in the drawers and the room also had a small TV. The text message also included a website about what to do while visiting Point Richmond ( https://www.pointrichmond.com/ ) and Rosie the Riveter WWII Home Front National Historical Park was at the top of the list of recommended places to visit. [Check-out]: Check-out is at 11 AM. I went back to the Hotel Mac and pushed the "Ring for Manager" button for check-out. The manager popped her head out of a window above and said that I did not have to do anything for check-out and can just simply leave. [Conclusion]: The one word to describe this hotel is charming. This hotel pays attention to small details from the towels, toilet paper (yes you heard that correctly), mirrors, vase, bookshelf, bathrobes, etc. There was a slight noise issue from the railroad, but once the window was closed it became a non-issue. The room was a bit small, but it had all the essential items. Overall, it was a pleasantly positive and memorable stay.

Approximately $75 a night plus taxes. You can't beat the price. Check in is at 3pm. We checked in around 4. It was pouring out. They don't have a covered area where you can leave your car at the curb and run in and check in while not getting wet. We parked at the closes spot to the front door and made a mad dash for the door. Our shoes were soaked by the time we got back to the car. Check in was smooth. We reserved via their online site. Our first room was 245 at the top of the stairwell. It was a nice room. I question the cleanliness of the floors. I wore slippers so I don't know if it was clean or not. The floor is lament so it was pretty clean I believe. The room appeared to be clean, but not inviting. The bed was nicely made. It had a blanket on the bed between two sheets so you felt it was clean and you didn't have to remove a uncleared duvet. There was body wash, shampoo and conditioner hanging in the shower/bath tub. They had a plug to fill the tub. They give you 2 bath towel, hand towels, and wash cloths. There is both a microwave and fridge in the rooms. It has a wall unit for a heater and ac. It didn't have a thermostat just high and low heat and AC. It was fall so we used the heat. It worked great and we kept toasty warm. We turned it off at night because it was so loud. We probably should have kept it on to drown out the noise of the guests coming up and down the stairwell. It was so noisy that we barely slept. They do give you ear plugs. The freeway noise is a constant hum so that didn't bother us. The next night we moved to room 255 and they had no issues switching rooms for us. No arguments just here's a new room and please return the key before 9 when housekeeping shows up. It was a much better fit for us. It was still on the 2nd floor, same side, facing the freeway, but not at the top of the stairwell. We only heard one groups around 2am walking by. They must have been at the end room next to us. We didn't hear any noise from the rooms on either side of us. We got a much better nights sleep the 2nd night. The 2nd room 255 had a wall heater unit that had a thermostat with it. The heater worked well. We kept toasty warm. We also turned it off at night due to the noise and the room retained the heat. The shower in both rooms was hot and good water pressure. The tv had a good variety of shows, the only issue with the tv is there was no guide and when you flipped the channels it doesn't say what channel you are on. It took some flipping to find what we were looking for. The breakfast was better then expected. They have a hot breakfast with chafing dishes of potatoes and eggs the first day and the second day it had eggs and sausages. Both were really good. They also had 2 waffle machines equipped with the butter spray so it doesn't stick and syrup. There was fresh bananas, but they looked pretty sad. No apples or oranges. They had cranberry juice and some mango juice drink. They also had cold cereal, toast, English muffins, oatmeal, coffee. No tea. They had plain yogurt and a lot of it. Overall I'd give the breakfast a 5/5. Overall it was a good experience. I was quite skeptical when we checked in and I saw it only had 1.5 stars. The room looked a bit sketchy, but turned out to be ok. I'm glad I had my slippers with me. The heater worked like a dream and it was a nice change from home where we are so busy conserving electrify it's a bit chilly in our house.

Despite charging top-tier prices--comparable to the Courtyard Marriott--the accommodations were outdated, unclean, and poorly managed. Filthy and Poorly Maintained The entire building smelled like dog urine and smoke, including the hallways and elevators. Elevators had accidents from dogs (urine and feces), and the staff did not clean them promptly. Room furniture and appliances were old and worn out--not worth the price they're charging. My bathtub was stained pink, and cleanliness overall was questionable. Overpriced with Minimal Services They treat the hotel like an apartment complex, yet they barely provide cleaning services. Rooms are only cleaned every three weeks, and guests are expected to take out their own trash--all while paying nearly $3,000 a month. They don't even have smart TV options. How lame!! Breakfast was a joke--just coffee and muffins. No toast, fruit, or real breakfast options for what they charge. Unethical Pricing & Sneaky Fees Amanda, a front desk staff member, removed me from the system when I was extending my stay--this resulted in losing my lower rate and being quoted a ridiculous $3,300 per month. No one informed me about corporate discounts--I had to find out online that I was overpaying. They deliberately locked me out of my side entrance access and messed with my reservations in an attempt to overcharge me. When I checked out early, they refused to provide a receipt--I had to video call and take screenshots just to document my charges. Later, I discovered sneaky late fees and rate adjustments, meaning I likely overpaid. Rude & Shady Staff The staff had a "nice nasty" attitude--acting polite on the surface while overcharging and making things difficult behind the scenes. The manager was condescending, pretending to care when I checked out early, but was clearly upset I figured out their pricing scam. They watched me on security cameras and revoked my key access to certain areas without notice. They kept calling about a smoke detector issue that wasn't real, seemingly to intimidate me. Sending maintenance staff up to my room in the day when I was working remotely in my room. Final Verdict: Stay Away! This place is run by incompetent and shady management that tries to squeeze every penny out of guests while providing filthy, outdated accommodations. They might have gotten extra money out of me, but they lost a long-term customer. I had a six-month housing stipend and would have stayed, but their dishonesty and poor service made that impossible. Do yourself a favor--stay at the Marriott next door (do your research first) or explore better options. Avoid this place at all costs!

I requested to speak with the manager, but none was available at that time. We agreed to call the manager. The host at the restaurant was unfriendly to the point where I almost walked away, although I will say that the waitress I had was very kind. I requested housekeeping multiple times during my stay. I was later told it was not completed because my "Do Not Disturb" sign was up during cleaning hours. However, during previous stays at this hotel, staff still knocked on my door to ask when they could return to clean the room, which made this explanation extremely frustrating. On two separate occasions, front desk staff told me directly that my room would be cleaned, and it never was. One front desk employee was dismissive and spoke to me with an attitude that made me feel disrespected. To make matters worse, the hotel uses automated text messages sent from "Glenda." I responded around 11:30 AM requesting housekeeping because I had work calls scheduled. I left my room for a period of time, returned to find it untouched, and later received another text stating they were unable to clean my room due to a high volume of rooms. This contradicted what I had been told earlier and was extremely disappointing. The room itself is in serious need of updates. The walls are extremely thin--I could hear doors slamming, people yelling, and even the person in the next room using the bathroom. The lack of soundproofing made it impossible to rest or work. For someone staying away from home, this was one of the worst hotel experiences I've had. I ultimately checked out early and went straight home.
