Shavella in the lobby was great her costumer service and attention make you feel liked home

Came here on business trip, stayed for about 10 days. During my stay they decided to paint all the rooms around mine, leaving the place smelling like wet paint all week. Little kid pulled the fire alarm my third day here, and when I went downstairs the front desk guy was obviously overwhelmed trying to handle it. When I asked him a question, he replied with a bit of attitude that he was a little busy. Today, I went to get change from the front desk and the lady ignored me and helped the lady behind me in line. Patchy internet, thin walls. Maid crews decided to leave their carts right out front of my door every morning, requiring me to move them out of the way to get out of my room. Next time, I'll save some money and stay at the Quality Inn next door. read more

Everything about this hotel is excellent except the quality of construction. Sadly, you can hear people walking up and down the halls, doors closing, etc... I stay in hotels/motels 2-3 times a week and places half the price are not this loud. read more

Totally lame. Sat at the bar for 10 minutes while they helped everyone else but me. It became apparent (though they didn't bother to tell me) that you needed to order at the register that was literally 2 feet from where I was sitting. I finally asked the girl if I had to order at the register and she said yes, indicating I basically had to stand, order, and sit back down. Meanwhile the other person behind the bar served the other two people sitting at the bar without making them go to the register. She said she would come to me but clearly this was after the line died down and as people kept getting into the line, I finally left. Unserved. read more

Friendly staff but food was totally overcooked. I paid $19 for breakfast including a $2 tip after I was told that they would deliver to my room down the hall. After 15 minutes when the food never arrived I went back to get it. They were apologetic. I ordered eggs over medium and they were cooked hard, potatoes were tough and dry, turkey sausage was super dry cold and inedible. Toast was OK but cold. Has gone down in quality over the last 20 years while way up in price. I'm at the hotel now. Room was $149 but added $60 in taxes and fees to get to total $220 per night. Plus you have to pay for breakfast. On top of that, NO WiFi in my room. I'm dying! Old fashioned room unit heater/AC unit. After finding no wifi, I'll be looking for another place to stay in Merced. It's not exactly a Sterling place in CA, but with bustling UC Merced in town, there have got to be newer, less run down hotels to stay in. I won't come back here, that's for sure! read more

Stayed here for a total of 2 nights in a regular room with a balcony. The hotel overall is really nice and modernized. The room me and my family stayed had a couch that turned into an extra bed, flat screen TV with the usual channels like HBO and ESPN, king size bed, mini fridge, free wi-fi (super fast download and upload speeds), and a nice office desk that extends to make it a lot bigger. The staff was nice and friendly, the lounge areas were nice which featured nice areas to relax and read a book from their library. There was also a large flat screen TV and computers which added to the overall experience. There is a caffeteria open for breakfast and dinner, a nice in door pool, fitness center, and outside lounge area. The only cons that come to mind are: no microwave in the rooms, no free breakfast, and as expected the shop in the hotel had outrageous prices. Bottomline, good experience in a ni e hotel where me and my family were able to relax. read more

Was here for Kiki Raina Tahiti Fete. Enjoyed our stay here clean and accommodating rooms. Clean and newly renovated lobby made for great meeting place for event participants to hang out get some grub, and chill. Indoor pool for kids and teens and gazebo area outside made a great smoking lounge. Only reason I took a star away: Kiki Raina has used Marriott for years as their host hotel. They should be used to the noise and crowds that are brought in by event participants and supporting families. They should be more understanding and accommodating to the late night costume prepping and kids running around, drumming practices. As they are fully booked and this event brings in the revenue for 4 days to this hotel. Not sending staff and phone calls room to room. Maybe when non event reservations call letting them know this is going on for the weekend giving them the option to stay here through that. Guarantee they still book to capacity without non event guests. Free Computer access and wifi in the lobby read more

This is a lovely hotel. I got a good price for the room and they honored my AAA discount. The whirlpool is nice and hot and the pool is nice and warm. I have back issues, so I was glad for such excellent therapy after a long car trip. The staff was very accommodating and put me in a room near the elevator. The room was very comfortable and well appointed. Even the food in the bistro was excellent. I plan to stay in a Marriott Courtyard the next time I travel. read more

The rooms were comfortable and clean enough but it was a little odd. You couldn't see the TV from the bed; the hwy was really loud because of the windows or walls. The bathroom door opened into the room so it was set up to stay closed. The little cafe downstairs was only selling Starbucks at 11:30 am even though other food was visible in the little display. I'm not sure if there are any better placed in town but I've stayed in much better Courtyards for sure. read more

If you need to sleep, forget this hotel. The walls are paper-thin, and there is not a feature where you can leave the fan on, so the air conditioning goes on and off all night. When it's off, you can hear everything going on in the next room. Also, at 5 am, a strong coffee smell permeated our room, further waking us, and we were on the third floor! We were in Merced for a family reunion, and had very little sleep, thus negatively impacting the event. When I called down to speak with a manager, I was told there was no manager on duty! Do yourself a favor and bypass this overpriced hostel. read more

We stayed here two nights on a school trip, with nearly 100 students, and the hotel staff was very professional and accommodating. We were pleased that they were able to have the breakfast buffet ready earlier than needed, based on our departure time, with not much notice. They were friendly and able to handle our group's needs. The lobby is relaxing and has a nice bistro (order at the counter) with plenty of seating, and there is additional comfortable seating around a TV, accommodating plenty of people. We really appreciate the service we received and would definitely recommend staying here again. read more

I travel a lot for work so I end up staying in quite a few hotels. And by far, out of all the hotels I've been in, this one is the best. They have LCD TVs in the room, couch, and table. Its like your own mini house. All they need is to provide wireless internet in the room. Only wired internet is available. The only thing I have a problem with is the lighting in the parking lot. Its very dim at night and when I stayed their, apparently a guest staying their had their car broken in to. Other than that, the interior is very nice and very new. I will probably return to the hotel again because it is the best one around. read more

My wife and I had our night in this hotel as a wedding gift for our first night as newlyweds. When we checked in, the front desk staff was rude with a "why aren't you making our job easier" manner. After trying to run our credit card through the machine several times, they realized the problem was that it was paid for already by my godmother on her card. At which point they wanted more card information from her, so I had to try to contact my godmother who was already on her way back home on a several hour drive. When we actually got to our room, there was a crib there for no explainable reason. My best man sprang for the romance package for us, which included strawberries and cream, a bottle of wine, two glasses, roses, and Godiva chocolate. It did not, however, include a corkscrew, because they had forgotten it. An end to a night of very poor service. Morning was much better. The Bistro staff is friendly and polite, the food excellent, and the front desk seemed helpful and nice. A definite improvement over the night before, but first impressions are hard to shake. The bed and other accommodations were very nice and very comfortable. But a night in a hotel should be more than just a bed, and the service was definitely sub-par. read more

Food is overpriced. Turkey Reuben on Rye is actually a turkey and cheese sandwich. Someone needs to teach them how to make a Reuben. The service is awful. First at breakfast then at dinner was trying to give my food to other people. Asked for another beer and was completely forgotten. We just stayed here as a halfway point on our way home from Lake Tahoe. It was super clean and the staff was friendly and helpful. The Bistro was the hot ticket! Great food and fast. We enjoyed the indoor pool. We would definitely stay here again. read more

Booked this hotel in advance on hotels.com. Arrived with 2 small children after a long drive, checked in, and took all our luggage to the room. Opened the door to the room to see that it wasn't the room I reserved and it was super super small. I called the front desk to tell him this and he said "oh you booked on hotels.com which they advertise a room that is not the actual room." He went on to say that they have been asking hotels.com for years to remove the pictures of the rooms off their site. This was a poor excuse and not great customer service you would expect from a hotel like this. If they have known this for years you would think they would call customers who book on hotels.com to confirm their room to avoid disappoint on arrival. I am a Marriots member and will consider my future stays at their hotels. I asked to be changed to the room I reserved and was told "we are all booked". I grabbed all our luggage and with 2 small kids in tow, went down to the front desk and canceled my stay. I went to Holiday Inn Express nearby and was given a spacious room and they even brought a luggage cart out to help with our luggage. That to me is service where you feel appreciated. read more

This Courtyard does not meet the standards of the Courtyard brand. As a loyal Marriott brand consumer, this property offers all the amenities and style of the Courtyard expected experience but the gods are in the details, and the details is where it falls short of meeting the expectation. It is too expensive for the location - next to freeway ramp. Exterior not well lighted at night. The parking lot was dark, giving one second thoughts about security of property and self. Small but important things, such as water in the rooms, good quality mattress/pillows, internet connection - not offered or subpar. A shout-out for staff, especially front desk manager Yasmin. I complained to her about a specific item not being made available. It was clear to me she hears this complain often from loyal Marriott guests. She was empathetic, professional, respectful and delighted me with her handling of the situation. It is apparent this is a individually owned and operated property. It always disappointing when Marriott doesn't audit these individually owned and operated properties to ensure they meet the category/brand standards. I still recommend but it is not a 5 star rated Courtyard. read more

This is absolutely the worst Marriott I have ever stayed at. The room was dirty, the WiFi is terrible and the hotel is right by the freeway. It sounds like the window is open. The freeway noise keeps you awake. We tried to switch rooms but they said they didn't have any other rooms available. Do not stay at this hotel. read more

Date of stay: July 30th-31st. 2012 I stayed in room 128, which is an upgraded room with a jacuzzi, and I woke up at 2:30am with what felt like a bunch of bugs crawling all over me. I grabbed a bug from the back of my neck and it looked like a little beetle. When I flipped the covers, there were bed bugs all over it. Keep in mind, I didn't know what a bed bug looked like, so I thought it must have been bugs that somehow got in the room through the wall air conditioner located near the floor. I went and told the night clerk what happened, and he said he knows what bed bugs look like and that we should take a look. He looked at them (and there were a lot of them), and said that they weren't bed bugs and that he'll get me a room on the third floor. He apologized, and said that they will comp the room (which now that I look on my corporate card, they never did). When I awoke the next morning, I looked online to see what bed bugs looked like, and sure enough, the 'beetles' in the room looked exactly like bed bugs- complete with tiny ones that were bright red. I called the hotel to ask them if they were sure it wasn't bed bugs, and they told me a specialist was coming in later that day to confirm. At around 2pm, they called me and said that it was bed bugs and to take the precautionary measures. As well, they will give me 15,000 rewards points. After a few days, I checked to see if the 15,000 points were added, and they weren't. I called the hotel to check and was told that the manager, Patrick, will take care of it. A few days later, I checked again. No points. I called the hotel, and they said Patrick will get it done. Next day, nothing. I called the hotel and asked for Patrick, who said he'll have it done by 5pm. And it was, which was great, however, I didn't really feel like calling him again to ask about the credit to my corporate card. I don't like the feeling of having to constantly harass a hotel about something they were going to do for me to compensate for such a horrible experience. The past few days have been pretty bad. The bed bugs had a great dinner, and I have bites all over my chest, back, arms, and neck. I even have a few on my ear! I wanted to give the hotel a chance since I've been staying in it for the past year without issue, but the way they handled this problem of a longtime customer makes me think they probably didn't do all the precautionary measures to make sure the bed bugs didn't get into other rooms and turn into a full blown infestation. Needless to say, I'll never stay in this hotel again. read more

Meh. Out family went on a road trip from home in San Diego to the Sequoia's, to Yosemite. We stayed here on our leg between Sequoia's and Yosemite, and we were very underwhelmed. We definitely expect more from the Marriott name. First of all, just be warned this hotel is in a not great part of Merced. I was leary parking our car in the lot. The room is pretty small, and our room faces the highway AND the railroad tracks. When you have a tired family including three small kids... Well that isn't ideal. It was really loud. But it was one night. We much preferred the Hampton Inn we stayed at the previous night. The room was clean, the beds okay. read more

This facility should be listed as a 50's Motel! The proximity to the 99 Freeway make relaxation nearly impossible. TV reception is poor, as is limited access to National Networks. The association Starbucks seems to be based on the "bucks" & fleecing paying guests. "Free" breakfast is limited to a menu that does not include toast and the attitude of the Starbuck's staff is demeaning & insulting. Even the General Manager's voice mail is full, too many guest's complaining, I guess. Let there be no doubt "I will never be back!" I give it one star only to post my comments. read more

One of the worse hotel experiences I've had. I booked a room two weeks in advance and requested early check in because I knew I would be arriving in the morning. I arrived around 11am after driving 6 hours to find out they did not have a single room ready. I just felt unwelcome as I sat for over an hour for them to get one room ready. I also witnessed others come to the desk without being helped, at least 6 people waited for about 20 minutes to be helped. I wish I had booked somewhere else. read more

I travel on business and stay here regularly. The rooms are clean, comfortable and the staff is great. The only reason I don't rate it 5 stars is the wi-fi connection absolutely stinks. I have talked to the management about it, and heard others at the front desk doing the same (in much more colorful terms than I use) but the hotel simply will not do anything to improve it. If a computer connection is critical, this is not the place for you. read more

Rooms not clean! Found long black hairs in the bed and shower. They hang the hairdryer in a black bag from a hanger in the closet -- and front desk staff treat you like an idiot when you can't find it. I mean, seriously, no one looks for a bag hanging in the closet when they need a hairdryer. The closet doors are of the sliding variety and don't work properly. One won't slide at all and the other only partway. This makes hanging and getting to your clothes difficult (not to mention getting access to that hairdryer). Additionally, I was unable to even get a coffee in the morning due to the exceptionally large group of young teenagers congregated in the hotel's only restaurant -- for a hotel that caters to BUSINESS travel, that is the last thing I and my fellow business travellers expect or want to see!!!! Marriott, you used to be my preferred hotel for work trips but my last few stays at various Marriott facilities have changed that. Hilton, here I come! read more

Very courteous, helpful staff and beautiful property! We originally booked the Comfort Inn which is right next door, but it was awful so we looked at this hotel and what a difference! Stayed at the Courtyard Marriott in Merced, CA last night for a short business trip. Got in pretty late almost around 10pm. Late check in without a hitch. Front desk clerk was very polite and courteous. Reminded me that the rate included breakfast, which starts at 6:30am. But upon finding out that I was leaving before 6am offered to take the breakfast off the price. Very considerate. I like that. When I asked whether there was a swimming pool, he even escorted me to it (just around the corner). The king-bed room was clean and adequate lighting. Important for those needing to work. Ergonomic office chair and table. The only thing I'd suggest is asking for a room facing away from the freeway. I had room 324 which faced Hwy 99. I had to keep the AC fan on al night to drown out the traffic noise. I think the windows simply aren't acoustical. Lobby / Reception is open to coffee/snack bar/cafe. Small lounge behind a partition for privacy. Very efficient with an airline business class lounge feel. Not super lux but has nice. I'll probably stay here again if rates are right. read more

I travel a lot and this Courtyard is the best I've ever stayed at. It was so clean and the staff was awesome. The hot buffet breakfast was $8.95 and was extensive. Even waffles made to order! The breakfast waiter was AWESOME! Five star service. I would stay here again for sure! Great value and excellent service for the $$. read more
