I was planning a longer visit to town, so I thought I'd try TownePlace. Usually, I stay at the Marriott Courtyard, but since I'd be here for a few days, I wanted to make the most of the kitchen. When I arrived, Evelyn was so welcoming and took care of my check-in. She also gave me a rundown of all the hotel's features. My room was spotless and tidy, and there were extra towels, just like I asked for in the app--thank you, Luz! The gym is great and open 24/7, so I could get my workouts in during the mornings. The breakfast was also delicious. Thank you, Kit. The area was well-kept, and she even helped me with the waffle maker. As someone who doesn't eat pork, I was hoping for a turkey or beef option for the sausage. That's my only gripe. One evening, I went to the lobby to grab some snacks and met Stephanie, I think that was her name was. We chatted for a bit, and she even suggested an ice cream cup snack, which was fantastic! Our conversation went so well. She was such a lovely person to talk with. The postcard with the QR code to tip the staff is a nice touch, and I made sure to tip everyone I met. I booked a room online through Priceline and paid fully in advance. When I tried to check in, I was told there is a $200 room deposit and they would charge me $55 per dog. I have two dogs so to check in, my $66 room was going to be nearly $400. I told them to keep the $66 and I walked away. The lobby looks really nice, but the location looks pretty sketchy and the policies are , probably because of the sketchy neighborhood. So honest people are paying a premium price to stay in a bad neighborhood. Makes no sense to me! read more

I think it's been awhile since I've ever left a single star for a place. I spent extra money to stay at this Marriott because it looked fairly new and clean. Big mistake, this place looks nice when you get in but when you get to your room. It appeared nice (mind you I had been driving all day and only needed a place to crash and shower before I continue my drive.) Mattress sinks, thought it was very comfy lol and pillows were great. So that's a plus. Later I went to the restroom...the shower was ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING!! Soap scum so thick on the glass doors, which okay soap sucks but then I opened the shower and the shower pan was even worse!!! It's as if people with gross feet had paraded in there and they never washed it for years. Needless to say, I couldn't shower and I feel gross. Then I go down to breakfast. Grabbed some cereal, the fridge only had a ton of chocolate milk and no cereal milk. I asked the desk, they checked and they're out...how do you not have milk?! One of the ladies suggested I use chocolate milk if I'd like. Went to get some sausage, looked over cooked and dried the heck out. My family always books this hotel when we visit the university. When I say we got put into the weirdest room than usual, I mean it! It's like we were in an "old room" with broken handles, old shower head, and scraped kitchenette. Looking past the much needed update, there were toddlers running/jumping in the room above us. I understand during the day people can do what they want and there's a "noise limit" at night, but stomping and jumping should always be avoided but the front desk doesn't think so. DEFINITELY looking else where next time. read more

I booked this hotel for my family as a middle ground area as we visited Yosemite and Sequoia national park! It was the perfect middle spot to be able to stay in one hotel during our weekend trip to be able to see both parks. For the most part the room was clean and comfortable but the shower pan in the bathroom was covered with a grey film as if it was stained from everyone else that had used this room before. We have toddlers and we put a towel down in the shower so they weren't standing directly on everyone else's foot filth when we showered them. read more

My family and I have stayed here twice and had no issues. Clean room, clean bathroom and clean dining area. What really made this experience a 5 was the worker that helps during breakfast. The hotel has a free breakfast and both times the woman has gone above and beyond to make it a pleasurable experience. By bringing a chair when needed without asking, offering items that would compliment what's on my plate or busy by being happy and polite. Her work ethic and customer service is second to none. I wish I could have remembered her name because she deserves the praise plus more. Keep it up and keep her and we'll be staying there every time we are in town. read more

I sent this message to the hotel general manager. My wife, Grandson and I stayed overnight Saturday, October 15 and were impressed with your property - despite the key issue. The room was very nice and the common area well appointed but the best part of our stay was your staff. The young woman at the front desk is a star. I observed her interaction with a very disgruntled and angry woman and she was great. Listening to the complaints several times and patiently explaining her room was not ready (it was only 2:00) over and over. She was super friendly and helpful with me during several visits to the desk to get someone to open our door. The cleaning and other staff who opened our door for us were very friendly, accommodating and apologetic for the key situation. Yesterday (Sunday) morning the young woman managing the breakfast was terrific too! She seemed to be everywhere at once, helping, refreshing, giving instructions for the waffle maker, cleaning etc. As with the other staff she was cheerful and friendly. My 10 year old grandson said this was the best hotel breakfast ever! Please thank all your staff, especially the front desk and breakfast ladies! read more

Had the worst experience with this hotel as a long time Gold loyalty member. I guess Marriott treats their members like this, but never had this issue. I made reservations at this location several months ago. However, my location changed so I canceled the reservation and made a new reservation at a different Marriott hotel location. Earlier this morning I checked in on my Marriott rewards application to the location I was going to today and I did not see any other reservations on my application. Upon checking in I noticed that I had two reservations on my application so I notified my current location and they told me to contact the Merced location so they can remove it. I called the Merced location and spoke to Isaac. Isaac told me there was nothing he could do and I will be charge for my reservation. I insisted and told him that I cancel this reservation and he became sarcastic and says it should have been noted on my application. However, I have canceled other reservations in the past and it does not show up on my application. I told Isaac that I wanted to speak to his manager. He provided the number and I called the general manager and I have not received any return phone calls. I explained what occurred with the Merced location to the lobby staff and they told me that they would attempt to resolve it themselves by calling the Merced location and they two were unsuccessful with Mr. Isaac. They told me that he could make that notation and cancel without any charges and what he told me was incorrect. I requested to speak to the corporate number for Marriott and they provided me the number. I called the number and apparently it only goes to a customer care phone number. I spoke to Megan who told me that she would place me on hold upon returning she had a different attitude and told me there was nothing that she could do and that the location was the only people who can address and remove that charge. I explain to her that I did not understand that a customer service number was not able to assist and I requested to speak to a corporate number and she refused to provide me any corporate numbers. She told me that the location was only one that could provide any customer corporate complaint numbers. Megan also told me that she could submit a case number for the Location to get back to me after they looked into it. After taking down my information she did not provide me with the case number and I insisted for the case number. After several attempts she finally gave it provided to me and gave it to me incorrectly and had to repeat it several times. I spoke again to my current location hotel and they told me they could not find a corporate number and I had to do my own investigating online to to attempt to contact the corporate number. After many attempts online to find a corporate number it all reverts back to the corporate customer care number only there is no complaint department that I have been able to get a hold of. All the numbers will transfer you back to the Customer Care department. However, the Customer Care does not do anything and cannot do anything apparently with any resolutions of complaints or problems that arise. Bottom line I arrive at my location where I'm staying I'm tired, and I have to deal with this all night and have been unable to sleep due to being so upset with dealing with Marriott hotels. I have been with Marriott hotels as a member for numerous years never had this problem and now I have reverted to just return back as a Hilton rewards member! I'm updating my review. It's been a year since we stayed here. It had just opened up when we were first here and we found it lacking. This time our stay was much improved. Everything in our room worked, the breakfast had plentiful options and was well-stocked. The workers in the breakfast area were very friendly and wanted to make sure our experience was great. A couple of things still needed attention. First, the girl who checked us in was not at all friendly, though she did give us a room away from the freeway on our request. The second thing that needed attention were the two public bathrooms. First off, they are gender neutral, which drives me crazy, because they are always less clean. They smelled bad. One of the two had no soap and the other one had no paper towels. We come to town once or twice a year, and will likely come here again. read more

Don't stay here!!!! Dead Ants/bugs in the sink, tub, border or the walls, and TOWEL! I work night shift at the hospital and was looking for a nice place to stay and to my discuss I was to stay in this gross room!!! I called the front desk and asked if this was normal to have dead ants in the bathroom and Bliss said she would transfer me and I waited on the phone then realized SHE HUNG UP! I called back and she said she would transfer me rooms. I had to pack up my stuff that was in the refrigerator and found ants crawling up the door and walls when leaving the room. As I'm at the front desk, Bliss never apologized nor was she empathetic and didn't even look at me showing me no mind. She just handed me another room key and I told her I didn't want to stay there any longer. She seemed irritated so I asked her if I was bothering her and she said she had allergies..... Anyway, I felt like something shady was going to happen so I asked her to print out my $0 dollar receipt and sure enough they charged me!!! I didn't even stay at this nasty hotel! So now I have to try to get my money back! I attached photos of the bugs and my charge for the room. First off, I did not get the room I booked! Asked for king bed suite and received two queens. More importantly, the morning of my check out. I noticed ants in my bathtub and on the bathroom floor. As we precede to leave for the day, we notice that our truck is INFESTED with ants. The receptionist, seemingly, made it seem like it was my problem and I have the late checkout time to figure it out! Then I spoke the the supervisor Isaac and also the General Manager and the basically told me that they can have their maintenance guy clean it. Not to mention I have 2 toddlers and both of their car seats were infested with ants. No way I ways going to put my family in my car!! When the called that it was done. No one was there to greet me. Not one person said ANYTHING to me! Went back to my room to collect my things and my card was no longer working! The cleaning crew was thankfully on that floor and opened the door for me. Also, on our drive home there were STILL ants coming out of crevices!!! It's going to take a detail cleaning to fix this!! In the last 12 years of traveling and staying at Marriott hotels, I have NEVER came across this amount of lack of accountability and understanding of a situation that occurred on your property. Also the nerve of telling me that "you cannot control Mother Nature, but glad to help!!" I hate to disagree more, but that's what pest control is for!!!! read more

If I could choose less than 1 star I would. We spent the night there recently and they gave us a room next to the lobby. Starting around 10am they allowed a group of about 10 drunk adults sit in the lobby who were incredibly loud, yelling, laughing and sounded like they were occasionally slamming things. At 2am after not being able to sleep- I went to the front desk to complain. The receptionist stated she would let the people know to keep it down. Nothing happened and they stayed at that volume until 330am. We complained again during checkout and were assured that isn't not policy to allow that and their manager would call us. We waited days and didn't hear from anyone and have any calls returned. We feel like we wasted our family time and money on this place. We would never stay here again. read more

Beautiful building, inside and out. Customer service was stellar and this location has veggie breakfast patties!!! Omg I haven't had this at any other Marriott property but this was amazing! The room was great, as usual, and very tidy. We only stayed for one night but we appreciate the hospitality received. This location is within walking distance to good spots and gas stations (however I'm not familiar with the area so I would not recommend to walk at night.. a few sketchy characters at the gas station, but they appeared harmless). I only come to Merced once a year so next year I'll be sure to book at this hotel again. read more

This is my second morning here (waiting for my home to be ready to move in). Rooms are clean and they're only cleaning rooms once you check out. Good practice to avoid Covid. We don't mind grabbing towels and I'll get a vacuum to clean a bit. We stayed on the first floor facing the freeway and there is some traffic noise, but once you're here a day that becomes background noise if you're not bothered by noise at night. Yesterday morning we had a nice hot breakfast they prepared since no self serve is allowed. Today they did not offer hot food. Not a big deal. We were told that food would be marked to-go bag. I grabbed one marked PBJ...hollar at me peanut butter and jelly!! Got to my room to find only one slice of bread AND NO MILK, instead I had FRUIT PUNCH?? I feel like that guy in that old Got Milk commercial....see photos. read more

The glass doors were cloudy from lack of cleaning and the shower pan had stains. The floor was sticky at the entrance to the room and there were ants because of it. TownePlace Suites is not great for long stays. I stayed there for months on the account that my house flooded. My insurance company had placed me and my family here for the meantime because our house was unlivable. Staff + Housekeeping A good handful of the staff is friendly. I have nothing against the staff members, except for a couple members of housekeeping. I find those couple to be lazy and incompetent. I say that because they keep changing the housekeeping rules each week, and they also will allow trash to accumulate for days. At one point, there was 3 days worth of trash sitting in the corner of the hallway. There are people with pets and children that come to this hotel. I can see red flags for health code violations being lit up. Secondly, in terms of housekeeping, I don't understand why trash pickup is in the mornings only. My main reason has to do with children and pets again. They don't have trash cans with CLOSED lids. So aside from that, pests can be attracted to those. Third - yes, to complain about housekeeping. Apparently they don't use gloves? So even though you request service, they will find excuses to not clean your room. Like a couple of kids' toys on the floor. Even if you clear out the space and follow their rules, they will find excuses not to provide service to you. At one point, I had to record the state of the room before leaving so housekeeping can do their job. I recommend you videotape the state of your room if you request housekeeping services, because they'll find excuses to not do their job. Room As said, this place is only good for a couple of days. I stayed in a king suite. I wouldn't have minded to stay for two weeks or so, but when you're there for months, you notice things. In the room I stayed in, they have patches on the bathroom wall. There was one in the bottom of my closet. I don't get why they didn't take the time to even paint it. I also wonder why there's a lightbulb inside the shower? I understand that it's a vent, but it is questionable why there's a light bulb above your head while you shower. On top of that, there's not plastic covering and no one cleans it so you see a bunch of dust and dirt, so it's pretty gross. I also had to get an air purifier for my room. There's not a lot of air flow in the room. And it's a good thing I brought the air purifier because you breathe in a lot of the dust and debris that's in the air. And I have kids, and I do work from home (at this point the hotel). It's something nice to have. There is also a shared vent between two rooms. Please note that they might charge you for a smoking fee even if you're not a smoker and you never smoke. But because of that vent [which looks like it has never been cleaned out], they might charge you. I think they need to fix this policy since you might be sharing a vent with people that smoke. At one point, there was this older couple who would go out for smokes every couple of hours. Huge concern. I have babies, so again that air purifier was coming handy. Wi-Fi The WiFI was pretty good for most of the time for me. Breakfast I have no complaints about it. They immensely improved. I will say that there was only one staff member that knew how to make coffee really well. Other than that, you'll have great service from them. Pet Peeves So if you're in my situation where you are unsure how long your stay is, you'll find that they will sometimes cancel your stay. It has happened to me a few times, where the temporary housing company would call and ask why I checked out or why am I requesting for a bigger room. read more

Home insurance booked us 2 rooms for our stay while my house was getting repairs and I wished I picked another suite hotel. The staff working in the front desk are very rude. How is it possible their policy is to check in at 4 and I got there exactly at 4 but my 2 rooms aren't ready. Housekeeping is the worst at not keeping up with the clean and replacements. I had to continuously keep calling for housekeeping and they're excuse was they were short staffed. The two rooms smelled like wet mop. I had to go to the store and buy disinfectant spray and febreeze. The last straw for me was that hotel has an ant infestation my room was swarmed with ants. I called at 8:30am to have someone come clean it and got tired of waiting so I called again at 11:30am and that there is nothing they can do until Clark pest control got there and couldn't give me a solution. There were also ants in my food in the closet so I had to throw that away! I checked with my home insurance and they had to speak to them to have us move to another room so I went to check the other rooms before I moved my family and our stuff and those rooms also had a lot of ants in the shower and even small roaches. I had to check out ASAP and relocate to another hotel suite. It was truly disgusting and a nightmare! I would never stay here again! read more

What you see in the photos on their website is really what you get! I would say this is one of the few mid-tier hotels that looks like the photos. Typically I'll book a hotel thats cheap and looks nice online, only to be met in-person with a smelly run down place. I loved our stay here. Isaac at the front-desk was really friendly and very accommodating. He helped me maximize my free hotel credit there and covered all of the amenities really quickly for us. He definitely belongs in hospitality! I highly recommend staying in this hotel if you're in the area. read more

I've stayed here a few times, first being drawn to it by being a new hotel. The last time I stayed though I noticed the cleanliness deteriorated. My shower / tub was outright filthy. Looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a month. I was a bit surprised considering Marriott has been advertising all their new cleaning procedures during the pandemic. Absolutely the FILTHIEST hotel I have ever been to. Was supposed to stay while on business but it was so dirty I had to check out. Lots of homeless people roaming the property. Some even came into the hotel at breakfast time. They were always roaming the parking lot. The hotel is next to the interstate and it is VERY noisy. They are doing road construction here so that adds to the noise and makes for a dusty environment. The train tracks are also right at the property which also contributes to the noise level as well. There will be NO good nights sleep here. When I checked out I left my iPad and charger in the room. When I called to make arrangements to pick it up the lady who answered the phone was VERY rude and informed me that I could NOT retrieve my own belongings back till the manager returned. She was supposed to have called them to see if they would come and give it to me and call me back. When she didn't return my call I called her back and she was even more rude and said the manager never returned her call. This went on for two days with this same RUDE woman. Finally the manager decided to return to work and I had to speak with them to make arrangements to receive my own property back. I thought I was going to have to call the police and press charges to get what was MINE. I am a top tier rewards member who has spent tens of thousands of dollars with Marriott. When I called Bonvoy to see if they could help me with the issues I had with this hotel (cancellation of reservation due to the filthy establishment and to get my property returned) I learned that Bonvoy can do absolutely NOTHING to help you at all, ever. What good is it to be a top tier rewards member if you get nothing for it? Marriott is the WORST! I will NOT be using them anymore. I left their nasty hotel and am now at a competitors IHG hotel. At least they appreciate my business! I would avoid this and all other Marriott hotels and spend your money with a different brand. read more

As , I tired to explain it to the front desk lady she wasn't hearing it with her rude self . The staff not friendly not nice just there to do a job and that's it . This Marriott brand is tucked in with a bunch of other chain hotels off the 99 highway in Merced. I selected this place with some reservation because I had a negative experience with another Marriott brand hotel 30 minutes south of this location. This is a great facility, still relatively new and the rooms are clean, breakfast location, and service was terrific. Josh checked up on everyone during breakfast and kept the area stocked and the tables clean. I was pleasantly surprised on the quietness of the rooms since you are next to the heavily used 99 highways. I will be back and will select this hotel. read more

Friendly staff, very comfortable bed, really nice walk-in shower with amazing water pressure (though I will say the door opens kind of backwards so you can't reach your towel)! Fully nonsmoking hotel very close to highway 99 and quite close to Merced proper where you can reach just about anything you could need. Some caveats: as I said the bed is very comfortable, but pretty high off the floor. If you need a lower bed because of mobility issues, you can call ahead to ask them to remove the box spring so the bed sits lower. Couch is mostly comfortable, but the bed inside is NOT. Standard crappy sofa bed mattress, you can feel the bars of the couch digging into your spine (I only laid on it to test, I didn't actually sleep in it). Big window lets in lots of natural light and that bright Valley sun, but the view isn't great (just the apartments across the street from my room haha), I know people won't be staying here for the view). Trucks going by at all hours (didn't bother me, but it might bother some). Parking lot seemed a bit small. But I would quite happily stay here again! read more

This hotel went above and beyond our expectations! Their amenities are over the top with a blender, toaster, dishwasher, full fridge, stove top, pots and pans, dishes and all the cleaning essentials. Bathroom is huge and a large tub to bath in. A table that seats 4 people (not just 2). If and when we had ANY issues they were on top of it ASAP. This was one of the best stays ever and we will be back next year! read more

Always loved staying up here. Such nice rooms and guest service. But not today. Worked a 12 hour shift (live out of town) got there just before 8 pm. Just ready to shower and go back to bed. Had to be back up early to return to work, essential health care provider here. Was told at the reservation desk that the person there had no access to the computer and was covering the one who could. That person wasn't due back for 30 minutes......really! Where and when does this happen, shame on you Marriott Town Place Suites!!!!!! Within that 30 minutes 5 more parties arrived to check in. Everyone upset. We stayed at the TownePlace Suites in Merced from Monday, May 27th to Wednesday, May 29th. We were nothing but disgusted and disappointed with our experience. Mind you, this hotel is brand new and should not have so many problems and upset customers ever, let alone, being brand new. We arrived into the town of Merced late on Monday evening, due to driving in from Southern California for a family matter. We checked into our room and were trying to get settled in and get ready for bed and I went into the bathroom and found, to my disgust, dog shit on the bathroom floor! Immediately, I called the front desk (after taking pictures) and told them what was going on and the lady told us that she would re-room us to an "upgraded" Suite. Mind you, this is already nearing midnight when this is happening. Our kids were exhausted and it was so inconvenient to have to change rooms so late at night. Mind you, she did not offer to have it come cleaned at all. Upon moving to our "upgraded" room, we found it to be dirty as well. Hairs on the stove, the carpets not vacuumed and God knows what else on the bathroom counters. We pray that the bedding was even washed at this point! We were exhausted and we settled into bed and upon waking up in the morning we went to the front desk and were offered nothing but a weak apology and water bottles that they charged us $4 a bottle for! Lame! We took care of what we needed to with our matters in town and prepared to leave on Wednesday. Upon exiting, still no offer of anything for a night's credit or even the entire stay with all of the issues we had! We will never go back and highly recommend you do not either. They obviously have incredibly terrible cleaning staff and extremely lazy customer service to not even investigate the matter or offer us a refund of any sort! We had an awful experience with this place. My mother reserved two rooms for us. We were at sequoia state park so of course we didn't get any service so when they tried to call or email us, none of it went through. Somehow they couldn't charge for one room but they could charge for the other... both were booked on the same BRAND NEW CREDIT CARD. So they cancelled one room and kept the other. We called around 10 to tell them we were on our way to find out that me and my babies didn't have a place to stay. So my parents gave me their room and they had to find a different place to stay since they were all booked for the night. We got in around 10 and the room was disgusting. Scum on the shower door, dirty shower floors. Nasty spotted sheets. I could go on...... other than that fiasco, staff was nice and accommodating during breakfast. Great hotel, even better staff. I've stayed here about six times over the last couple months. It's a brand new hotel so you don't have to worry about the rooms being dirty and grungy or smelling like smoke. Rooms are spacious and comfy. The property is convenient for getting on and off the freeway. The hotel has a pool for the kids, nice BBQ area, laundry room and a decent gym. The staff is great too. Everyone from the front desk, to the housekeepers, to the maintenance people acknowledge you and asks how your day was/is going. The few problems I had were quickly taken care of by the girls at the front desk. They were helpful in planing our stay and where to get deals around town. I would defiantly recommend this hotel and will stay there again when I'm in town. read more

I can't believe how nice and affordable this place is. Rooms are nicely decorated and there pretty good size. Very clean and the staff at the front counter are so helpful and friendly. I will definitely stay here again This is a new hotel and it's so nice and very affordable. Don't stay anywhere else if you're driving through Merced California. read more

My husband and I stayed here with the kids for a week and we couldn't have picked a better hotel in Merced, CA than this one. The level of service is of a 5-star hotel. Liza Amaya at the Front Desk, made sure to accommodate all of our requests and make our stay so enjoyable. She even suggested kids friendly parks and activities that turned out to be amazing! She should really be considered for a managerial position at Marriott. As to the rest of the staff, such as Josh, Bella, Evelyn, Jasmine, and Gustavo, --- they were all incredible. We will definitely be back here just because of the staff and the high level service they provided to us! read more

A beautiful place to do business in. When you arrive early for a Dr appointment you can relax at the wonderful restaurant there.

My wife and I enjoyed coming here with our children.most of the staff here is rude the manager is very unprofessional I come to check in at times and no one is there not even a post saying I'll be right back .I got a complaint about my children being noisy when there was other families there with children playing in their rooms making a lot of noise and my family got blamed for it .Also there is only two carts to bring your luggage in and half the time they're being used or in somebody's room the shower floors there are dirty .The cleaning lady with all the tattoos was rude like she is from public housing . The parking lot is too small there is a homeless encampment at the end of the parking lot by the trash cans with bums scurrying around like bugs and sometimes the cars get vandalized. read more

Great hotel and best choice for this category hotel I have travelled a lot -mainly with Marriott and spg and some other major chains. This is a new hotel with great customer service! After having a HORRIBLE experience at Sheraton Fairfield Modesto , a friend and guest of TownePlace told me to try this location on my next visit and so glad I did! Basically it has all the standards you expect from this chain and category but it's new,clean and amazing customer service! The staff go above and beyond to ensure you have a good stay. This is a far better choice than the neighboring Hampton and holiday inn and even better than farther hotels- I highly recommend and will stay again!
