The room was absolutely minimal. A small sink with no counter space in the bathroom. There were cockroaches in my room. They advertise a "buffet" breakfast which was actually a continental one. A sign posted in the breakfast area stated, "No hot food, sorry for the inconvenience." The front desk person was a bit icy upon arrival. I wanted to speak to someone at checkout. No personnel at the front desk. Needless to say, I will not be staying at another "Choice" property. I'll chose one elsewhere. Wish I could give it a minus stars rating! read more

I'd never stayed at a Quality Inn before, and I was really expecting something better than a Motel 6. Apparently this company is like so many other American companies these days: they love to take your money, but their overarching goal is to give the customer as little as possible in exchange, including little (if any) pride in workmanship or service. The one positive thing I *can* say about this place is that the entire front desk staff, with the exception of one young man who referred to me as "boss," was very nice; however, if you need to reach the front desk from your room, good luck getting them to pick up. (Note to all young men: as I have no employees, nor any DNA test telling me otherwise, I am neither your "boss" nor your "bro". Therefore, please do not refer to me as such, because it's *very* unprofessional and disrespectful.) As for the facility: there was a burned hole in my sheet (the maids can't see a hole 8" from the upper left corner of a fitted sheet when they make a bed? really??), forcing me to sleep on a washcloth because the edges of the burned area were hard and crusty and were scratching against my back. The left end of the towel rack in bathroom was very visibly lower than the right side (are towel racks really so tricky nowadays that they can make their installer look like he's working under the influence?). Paint on bathroom wall & ceiling was peeling--A LOT. No stopper in sink. The breakfast bar was understocked a full half hour before it was supposed to close. And when I came back to my room at 2:30pm, the maid was still cleaning the room 3 doors down from mine (she never even bothered to knock to *see* if I wanted my room serviced--that means no clean towels, no *nothing*; and no, I did *not* have the "Do Not Disturb" sign hanging outside). Now, I realize no one from corporate, nor the franchisee of this property, gives a damn about what I've said here because all this could have easily been prevented or corrected before I was assigned my room... IF they took any pride in their product (which is why I didn't bother reporting it to management--if *anyone* knows about the lousy shape this building's in, they do; obviously, no one cares ). So I kinda think of this review as my equivalent of the free night's stay (I only stayed 2 nights) I deserved but would never have gotten had I complained to management (because I've dealt with these kinds of people before---I'm on vacation, and I'm simply not going to waste my time getting upset with people who care less about their product than I do). I believe this is the first time I've ever stayed at a Quality Inn; and I'm not anxious to repeat the experience. "Quality" comes in levels, and this "quality" was right down there with Motel 6. They should really change their name to "Good Luck Inn," because the "quality" you're going to get is a complete crapshoot (unless, of course, this is typical of *all* their properties, in which case they should just change their name to Motel 6 and be done with it). Makes me glad I can't afford to go on vacation more than I do. read more

Priceline pretty much scams with the express deals . Even with the discount added to the express deals it's still almost always cheaper to book it yourself without Express . Also if it says four star you could possibly get a 3-star the customer service says it's based on some BS . When booking Express it'll give you three options one being cheapest room one being mid cheap and one being the most expensive every time I booked it it always gives me that cheapest room so don't fall for the three options read more

This in the top 10 grossest hotels I've stayed in in California and I practically live out of them. The only positive is that the room didn't smell. I almost got a nail through my foot going into the bathroom after a long day because the rail in between was not even properly placed, the nails were hanging out see photo. Then as I'm going to get in the shower, I realize the plumbing isn't even flush with the spout. Upon further inspection, I see that the flooring isn't even properly done, which is gross in itself because of mold and looking up the ceiling is failing above shower. There's burn holes in one of the comforters marks all over, smears on the walls, marks on the carpet. That's just downright obvious that this place was never made to be quality and I'm pretty damn sure that if a health inspector ever went here, there would be serious consequences. Our company booked and I will be calling quality Inn corporate to let them know what state this room is in because it's not right for people to spend their money for a quality stay or just a decent one and they get this, let alone our hard working guys. Whoever gave this place a good rating likely is getting paid for it or friends with the person who owns it. When asked what I liked about the stay, my thought was, "It was a physical place to sleep." When asked what I disliked, I thought, "Literally everything else." I'd like to amend these, in that first, the Wifi was great even if the password was *insanely* insecure, and that second, Merced has some flat out, honest to god flophouses that go for hourly rates, and this isn't that. Instead, this is the absolute worst of Merced's legitimate hotels. It's so badly in need of attention that I considered leaving immediately upon arrival and forfeiting the money paid. I didn't, and I still feel dirty from the stay two days later, but that's probably just in my head. Terrible staff attitude on the phone before the stay.  Breakfast hardly edible. The rules they present upon arrival are a joke, using COVID to restrict visitors in 2023... uh huh. Abandoned vehicle with a bumper missing in the parking lot. When I missed housekeeping - I slept til 11, but apparently they only can clean before then (?) - I asked to switch out my towels, but was told I should bring them to the front desk "because I'm very busy and housekeeping is very busy." I brought them to the desk, and then was told that they couldn't switch the towels out because "there weren't any extras right now." Two towels, didn't have enough. He then showed me that he was telling the truth, legit didn't have any extras. Frankly I felt horrible that I brought my child with me to stay at this hotel and ashamed that this was the best I could afford. I don't care that another hotel costs more, I'll figure out how to make it happen, because there is no way in hell I will return to this property. read more

The positive was the clerk was very nice & bed was comfortable Now for the rest-- it is VERY run down and is in need of major remodeling. The repairs that were done were really bad. You get about a 2 oz container of shampoo & creme rinse for 2 people. When we asked for more we were told they had no more. The 6am breakfast wasn't even open at 6:30 when we left. If the kitchen area looked like our room I wouldn't have eaten there anyway, I would encourage you to stay somewhere else. read more

Merced doesn't really have a whole lot of quality places to stay while you are in town, but this particular hotel is always worth the prices that they are asking per room. They don't always have a working pool or hot tub available, but if you simply need a place to rest your head for a night or two, they'll do. Their cleaning and room maintenance isn't the worst around, but could always be better, as I have noticed plenty of cleanable stains and have almost used what appears to be recycled hand soap from previous customer's visits. Their breakfast is definitely what kept them from receiving 2 stars, as it is way better in both quality and selection than a standard continental breakfast you can expect to receive elsewhere. Buffets may not be your ideal go to morning fulfillment, but at least they do what they can to offer items that most would enjoy. read more

We were there for one night during the fires so it was hot, the sky was really orange and ashes raining down. It was nice to walk into a cool room with the ac already on. Clean room, friendly staff but I didnt like how the guy checking us in, Robert, had issues wearing his mask properly. While waiting to check in I watched for like 10 mins while his mask was either falling off his face or under his nose. Im really anal about safety during this time. Nov. 19th. - same lady w the attitude yelled at my kids because "they" were being loud. I witnessed her yelling from the 2nd floor balcony to the 1st floor pool area. Explain how my kids were the problem. - I had to call and request that a fridge be pulled out of one of the other 15 rooms we had because I had perishables. The answer was NO we can't do that. - One of our parents had requested a room on the highest floor. This was true due to the email that was communicated w this establishment. They were all out of room and were stuck. But that was after the PM shift lady very snarky said "maybe you should've requested that when you booked the room" - this particular parent was also missing a drive and microwave in their room. Some how they got one but I DIDN'T!?!? Seriously? * I should note that the younger lady at the front desk on Fri. night was very patient and helpful since we all arrived at 2AM Cleanliness: -7 - FLIES. FLIES. FLIES!!!!!! Everywhere. It was bad! In the rooms. In the hallways. In the breakfast area. - there was HAIR on the shower wall in my room. I hadn't taken a shower YET. Seems that no real thought went into the very large reservation placed. About 15 rooms. A HS band and the rooms were all over. - having the kids on the bottom 2 floors would've helped w the "noise" issues. They are teenagers. They are chatty. They have fun. Personally, I would not recommend this hotel to friends or family. IF I have any input for the next band trip, I wouldn't recommend this place either. IF I don't... Good- They allowed us early check in. Bad- Rooms filthy and stinky. It smelled like cat pee. At first I was understanding of the stench and stained carpet. Saturday night there were all these homeless people hanging out in the parking lot. Me being a mom and traveling with my daughter made me very nervous and uncomfortable. Sunday morning we go to get breakfast and the breakfast area is crowded with the same homeless people from the parking lot. One must have room key to access breakfast area. The rooms are spacious with comfortable mattresses, thick blankets, and a nice variety of pillows. The air conditioning was spectacular and the room was cold when we entered. The young man who checked us in was fun. We were exhausted and he made the process pleasant and welcoming. He had hospitality skills far past his age. Let's talk about breakfast... Rebecca takes beautiful pride in her breakfast area which was spacious, well organized, spotless, with a wide variety of foods and drinks. She was also friendly and made our morning even better. My family and I just completed a 5-day roadtrip from SoCal to Oregon, and of all of the hotels we stayed in, this was the best! Yes, it's basic. Don't go in expecting the Ritz. But it was nice, clean, had a huge, AMAZING selection of breakfast items (which is included with your stay), and was being redecorated during our 8-hour stay, so it's getting even better! I accidentally left behind my personal pillow, and when I called them, they said they'd located it and would mail it to me. Now that's excellent customer service! I was so sad to lose it, but the person who answered assured me that she understood and would get it right back to me. The only downside was it was kind of loud since it is right by the freeway, but we were still very happy. For you foodies, here's what was at the breakfast buffet (sorry I didn't take any pics): waffles in two different flavors, biscuits and gravy, eggs, bacon, oatmeal, fruit, muffins, pastries, bagels, bread, coffee, tea, juice, and cereal. Cold was hot and hot was cold. And the kicker...my hubby's car got broken into. The person must have been very dirty because there was brown all over the place but no smell. All they got was the car charger but they trashed the car. Only reason I'm giving it 2 stars is because the breakfast was well done. First let me start off by complementing the front desk managers, Jaime and Robert - they were reasonable and compassionate. At around 9:30pm last night not more than 10 mins after having about $60 worth of pizza delivered to our room, my son noticed something moving from behind the TV which was a couple of feet away from where we placed the pizza boxes. Much to our dismay they were cockroaches He quickly trapped one and noticed more crawling over to the other 2 boxes. We called the front desk and Jaime was very sweet, apologetic and found us another room (we would have left but we are not from this area and it was too late for me to get on the road again), so we packed up our stuff, obviously abandoned the now-roach-infested pizza and went downstairs to talk to Jaime. I explained the situation and asked for a partial-refund ($40) for the pizza which was over $60 with the tip. He called his manager, Erika, and she offered $20 ‍. He told me his hands were tied, that he mentioned to Erika how much money I spent on the pizza and that we could discuss in the morning with the check out manager, Robert. Just now, Robert called Erika again, and again she offered $20. He provided me her contact info but would not be available for a call until tomorrow. Our family has stayed at this location a handful of times in the last 6 months when we come visit our child in college. Last night/today's experience was unlike all the others and Erika's inflexibility was very disappointing. I was flexible in not asking for a full refund for the pizza or frankly the room, I felt that $40 was a fair compromise since we were able to eat a couple of slices. I will be calling tomorrow to discuss but since Erika refused to offer a more fair customer service experience, these photos have to be shared now. I have video too but this format doesn't allow for posting that. Very dismayed that managers don't step up to rectify bad customer service experiences when that it is their job. Jaime at Quality Inn refused my reservation and I was charged a night for a room that I was not allowed to stay in. Their reason is my ID has a Merced address. Yes I no longer live in Merced (this is why I rented a motel). In the last year I have stayed in this motel three times with the same ID. He refused any other documentation except an ID. I left my passport at Home which doesn't list my home address. DMV does not issue a new ID because you move you must wait until your renewal. He quotes Covid as a reason to not accept any Merced residence into this motel. Since I've explained to every other person that I moved 4 hours away and was able to provide proof which was acceptable in the past I can only assume his ego was hurt when I told the well dressed elderly couple that it was not safe to walk to H and W on 16th street in the heavy fog. (Or at all). Who the hell does that, yea you walk there, those people would have been an immediate target. Seriously you send elderly people walking next to the homeless shelter, through homeless camps in one of the not so great parts of Merced? Are there even sidewalks? Went next door to the Marriott. Go there. Clean, nice, safe, and they rent to Merced residents. I don't have to explain why I'm in town or want a hotel room to a clerk which is really none of their business. The room was kind of nice. The beds were comfortable however the bathroom door in my room did not lock. Also couldn't figure out which button would turn on the light in the bathroom, so I just kept pressing either button to see what happens. The worst thing about this place was that the breakfast room had a strong odor so it was hard to have an appetite. This was an excellent place to stay for the price! We checked in during spring break college search late at night. The front desk clerk was an awesome woman who gave me a great rate to keep me at a safer hotel than I was considering. The room was very clean and extremely comfortable! There was a nice small pool that we didn't use but the breakfast was amazing for a complimentary one. They had fresh fruit and ice water in a big dispenser for you in the lobby. Disgusting!!!! I would never stay at this hotel again. The paint is literally peaking off the walls, furniture is stained, and the tiles in the bathroom are cracked. But that's the least of the problems here... I moved the pillows on the bed and a half dozen strands of gray hair on the sheets, I went to the front desk to complain and they changed the sheets replacing them with a new stained set. Then the lightbulb in the bedside table was missing, I requested a new one from 3 different employees through out our stay but never got one. Then, my card was over charged... when I brought it up the employee said it was because I checked in after 8pm and they authorize cards at 6pm... EXCEPT they didn't have this card number on the reservation. I used this one when I arrived!!! They charged me for my 2 night stay and again for another night. I've been told it will take them 10 days to return my money! I asked her to reverse the charges but she doesn't know how... You would be wise to spend your money somewhere else! read more

Really deserves zero stars. We arrived around midnight from a long drive and our room was so dirty when we checked in. Weird stuff on the walls, dirty mirrors, stains on the sheets, and pee on the toilet We called and asked for another room, so they gave us one. As my husband and I walk to the new room, now close to 1 am, the door is propped open a little and the lights are all off on the inside. Hubs goes in to see if anyone is in there, and thankfully it's clear. In this room, there was no sheets on the bed and the dirty linens from the previous guest are thrown on the chair. Gross. So we call again. They send us back to dirty room #1 because they have nothing else and the hotel receptionist (only worker at that time) apologizes (she was actually very nice) goes to find us new sheets for dirty room #1 and cleaning supplies so she can clean the bathroom. We start remaking the bed with the new sheets while she is cleaning the bathroom and the sheets dont fit. They were queen, the bed was king. After cleaning the bathroom the receptionist goes to try and find us king sheets and comes back saying all they have left is flat sheets. Thats fine, as long as they're clean. So we start layering those on the bed. We didnt get to sleep until 2:30 am with an early graduation to go to in the morning. The reception desk lady was as helpful as she could be but those rooms should NOT have been booked in those conditions. read more

I reserved a room for a trip with my son to visit UC Merced for a day, and picked the cheapest motel with a breakfast bar. Check in was effortless, and staff was courteous, offered a few dinner choices nearby. Pool was available, and spa was turned on. The room was average for a budget motel, but given that we were right next to the freeway I was surprised how quiet the traffic actually was. Air conditioner fan was quiet, but still overcame the random traffic. Bed was clean and soft, and LOTS of pillows. TV service was great, with three different HBO channels, two all news, and three sports. Free WiFi was a big plus for my son, who brought his laptop. Full breakfast bar was AWESOME, with eggs, sausage, bacon, waffles, and on and on. read more

I had a kid out of surgery that needed assistance for the first couple of weeks of college. We stayed here largely because of price. I thought it was fine. The room was clean, the staff is very pleasant, the breakfast is good. The hotel is older and near a freeway and a field. It has a very large parking lot outfront and the construction equipment is parked there. It isn't that loud, but I sleep with earplugs anyway. If you don't mind paying a little more for nicer amenities, go to the hotel next door. But, we were happy with our 2 week stay. read more
