Has got to be the worst hotel booking experience. If you want to be berated by the front desk staff when you call then this is the place. If you have any questions you better not ask or they will threaten to call the police on you for asking too many questions. If you ask for the names of the staff who spoke to you they will hang up on you. My fiance had called in an attempt to pre-pay a room that had already been reserved for her Matron of Honor under our group code. Of note, the day prior my fiance was allowed to do so for another member of the wedding party. Therefore, since my fiance was allowed to do so the day prior, she decided to attempt to pre - pay for her matron of honor as well. However, when the staff at Marriott Montvale received the call she was met with the most rude staff she has ever experienced. They had told her that there is no such process that can be done over the phone and it is not in Marriott's Policy. Since hearing of this, of course my fiance was concerned because she had authorized Marriott to do so the day prior and this did not seem consistent. When my fiance inquired more about this and asked if the charge yesterday was properly authorized, they did not want to be bothered. My fiance had tried to clarify the situation and inquired more on how to rectify this and pay for her matron of honor's room but was met with rude discussion. What was more unprofessional is that the staff had the audacity to hang up on her. Thinking this was a mistake my fiance tried calling back to inquire further but the staff stated that she was harassing the staff and continue to hang up. My fiance of course upset tried to call back to discuss the matter but the staff hung up the phone on her for a total of 10 times. Being upset, my fiance called me and relayed to me the situation so I decided to call and try to understand the situation and inquired as to the issue at hand. The staff was probably the most rude individual I have ever encountered. I myself deal with many individuals of all walk of life in my profession and she has got to be one of the rudest I have encountered in a professional setting. Despite NOT listening to me she began to berate me and was very condescending to me and my fiance. She had claimed that my fiance was harassing them and that they are very busy and have no time to answer these questions. Not only that, your staff stated that if my fiance called again the local police will be called. Hearing this any normal person would be infuriated as your job is to offer a professional service and answer these type of questions. When the Staff finally allowed me to speak, I had asked for her name and she hung up the phone on me. This has to be the most unacceptable professional behavior I have ever encountered. If your staff is not fully trained in answering questions and act in such an unprofessional manner they do not deserve to work in this industry. The best part: the full-length glass-doored (what are the terms for this?) shower. Classy! The worst: stale smelling room, sheets, towels and the flimsy "comforter." The in-between, from best to worst: - It was clean. - The breakfast buffet was less than $10 and it had everything you might expect. Service until 11am on weekends. - An adequate amount of parking. - The room was pretty spacious. - The ethernet didn't hook up to our computer for some reason. - The doors are paper thin. Lets start it off with 3 Stars - -1 for the world's smallest bar (matched with the world's slowest bartender) +1 for an AWESOME Fire & Oak restaurant/bar. Parm Truffle Fries rock! +1 for Julio the Bartender (and that girl, she was pretty cool too) -1 for paper thin walls. This was ridiculous. Someone would be talking int the hallways and you would think they are in your room. -1 for overpriced Breakfast Buffet. $14 for Continental with Waffles and Omelets- with no omelets cause they were "too busy" to make them. This is a hotel that we have stayed in about four times now, and we continually go back because it is always well kept and fresh. Though the building is older, and this may be one of the early Courtyards - their design is pretty much the same no matter where you stay. But it is in great shape and well kept up. The rooms have always been nice, clean and fresh. The swimming pool is nice, and there is a very nice out door patio area to sit out (away from the direct noise of the pool) where you can visit and relax. The hotel bar Fire and Oak is also a nice addition to the property. You can not beat the location, right off the Garden State Parkway and in the middle of a number of office parks, so if you are staying there for business it makes a lot of sense. Just down the way there is a gas station with a car wash, a couple of bagel shops a nice white table cloth resturant, an A&P super market and a wine shop. read more

Extremely clean and appealing. The staff is friendly and helpful. The on-site restaurant is very nice. The only drawback to this facility is that it is gorgeous in all of its accompaniments yet the pool is outdoors and closed for much of the year. A hotel this beautiful and welcoming should have an indoor/heated pool, hot tub and/or sauna. This is the only reason there are 3 stars instead of 4. I've stayed at this hotel twice while on travel to Nyack, NY. I can't say enough good things about The Courtyard at Montvale: * The rooms have consistently been clean and modern * Staff has been extremely attentive and friendly * Great location (tucked away in a suburban part of NJ, but within a three-minute drive to great shopping and local eateries) * Moderately priced (less than $100/night, even when we stayed over a holiday weekend) The one time we stayed, we asked for a room with two double beds. Due to a snafu beyond their control (a group of students were stranded over Thanksgiving and had to extend their stay at the hotel), they were only able to give us a room with a King sized bed. To compensate, they gave us complimentary breakfast (which was quite tasty and better than what I expected from an in-house breakfast buffet). Without question, I would recommend this place to anyone! read more

I've been a Marriott member since 1992, but I've never been treated like this before. I made a reservation at this Marriott location on the Marriott site - weeks ago - confirmed, credit card details, etc. Upon arrival (10pm) - I flew in from Atlanta they informed me that somebody made a mistake - how is this possible if I booked online - and gave away my room!!!!!!! But not to worry, they reserved another hotel - in the middle of nowhere. Needless to say how upset I was. When asked how I would get there, Ms. Laticia - if that's her real number, she was very reluctant to give it - said I guess we can give you a lift!!!! Normally I'm not a fan of Courtyards but in all honesty, there is nothing to complain about with this hotel. It is better than many of the flagship Marriott full-service hotels. The service was great, the rooms were always clean, and the beds were comfortable. The only issue for me was climate control. But the hotel staff was very responsive with addressing that issue when I brought it to their attention. The best feature of this hotel is the fact that it is co-located with Fire & Oak restaurant. That restaurant is one of the best I have had in the greater New York City area. And I am a foodie! The sushi is phenomenal and the other items were stellar as well. The salmon is amazing!!!!! I definitely recommend this Courtyard and will certainly stay there in the future. read more

I had a TERRIBLE UBER experience and Michael saved me. I am so grateful for his kindness and care. He extended me incredible kindness throughout my entire week-long stay. No Ice Machines. They could not even bother to put up signs where you would expect to find ice machines, nor inform you at check-in. After searching hotel for ice, went to front desk to find out we had to go into restaurant next door to get ice! We were told ice machines have been on order for a year; that's fine; but they could have done much more than nothing, to overcome this problem for customers. Water pressure low, dribble of water comes out of the shower. Front desk called us back and said we should have adjusted the spray head; um, we tried all the available settings, very little water. Air conditioner is held up with wooden blocks rattled, and squeals when going off and on. When you sit on the bed, it made a noise like it was built on top of filing cabinets, metal flexing sound. Finally had enough after trying to sleep for an hour, and switched rooms. Staff did not offer to help move us either. This AC rattled in new room also, but not as bad as first room. Would have been better to push the unit out window and has the fresh air come in through the hole. Smoke alarm flashes like a strobe light. TV sound was terrible, and only a dozen or so channels. Only spent one night, and that will be the last night at any Marriott product. Expected more from a $200+/night room, plus they charge $10 which supposedly goes to charity, for parking on an open Lot, no choice in this matter, was not asked, they just add it. I was ready to go sleep in the car. Some hotel responses on Google after a 1-star reviews of this place, just says thank you for your review; so obviously they could care less. We complained, but no compensation or refund of any kind. Had to wait to checkout and mention the issues; as staff kept taking phone calls over people standing in front of them; guess we should stand there and call in for quicker service. Whole point is a comfortable, peaceful place to sleep, and they fail at all points. Restaurant was good, but VERY expensive. 2 hamburgers, 2 soda's, 2 pcs of pie, $75. read more

THE WORST EXPERIENCE! LAST SAT 7/18. Got away for the evening. Poolside drinks all good! Get to my rm ready to shower. Knock on the door, its a guy tellin me he was in my room. Of course I'm looking at him like what are you talking about. He proceeded to show me a video of him in my rm! Goes downstairs gets the mgr Michael brings him back upstairs to show him that he gave him the wrong room key!! I then go down stairs very upset but thankful the young gentleman did not steal my stuff. All I got was a nothin happened so there's nothing we can do for you sorry. The managers on duty Michael and Christine neither asked can we get you a new room, are you ok, we are very sorry this happened. This is such a mistake. NOTHING! I asked for a refund that was denied, I was told I can check out if I like...mind you its like midnight! I had to ask for another rm, it would have been nice if it was offered to me. Then I met another couple (Caucasian) who went through the SAME incident! They got a comp room due to a refund AND a another comp stay on any day of their choosing! I being African American got none of those services. I'm not coming back here! I am now dealing with their corporate office. read more

Wow, what a delight! Tucked away in a charming, quiet corner and surrounded by trees, you'll really feel like you're on a getaway at this sprawling luxury. This place is big! There's a large, convenient parking lot, leading to a beautiful interior that features a comfortable working area, a complimentary refreshment center with gourmet teas and coffee, a print station I utilized for printing out a boarding pass. There's an upscale (yet affordable) dining option called Fire and Oak, which was perfect for some appetizers and a cocktail or two - our mojitos were top notch. Our check-in was a breeze, with a super friendly staff, pointing us in the right direction, while offering some tips for local entertainment. Our room was spotless, and modern, with all the classic amenities, such as a HDTV, ice cold fridge, and AC. Can't wait to return to this hidden gem. read more

Stayed here over the weekend and Monday. Seems there are a lot of wedding guests that stay here. They came in every night from 12-1-2am in drunken groups not caring how loud their ruckus was. There are signs in the hallway asking guests to be quiet after a certain time but they and security getting complaints from all floors was useless. Housekeeping- chatter boxes in the hallway with no volume control. They knock on doors with the DND sign hanging and on top of all that they close the deadbolt before closing the door so they don't have to continuously open and shut the door. Yes they should have door stoppers like all the other cheaper hotels in the vicinity. Fire Oak bar restaurant is maybe one of the nicer hotel restaurants I've seen. Didn't try it. Rooms- Nice. New. Staff- Mostly friendly. Somewhat too much attitude. Really theres not much respect for membership here. I asked for a late check out and the staff member said for a 3pm check out they would have to charge half a day. 5pm a full day. I've had late check outs as far out as 6:30pm. At 229.00 USD I just don't see the value here ad ty treat uu mh lk tyr th customer. No upgrade to a suite was ever offered. Thanx for reading. I requested a late checkout bc I was part of a bridal party and I had an infant with me and my husband. I was given 2pm. The following day at 13pm, the housekeeper along with the guy from the front desk, just barged into the room with my child inside saying he never gave us 2pm checkout (while I had other family members around me as witnesses the day before). Then following up with "regardless you have to be out because we are sold out." I had to leave the bridal photoshoot to help my husband pack up with my infant. VERY INCONVENIENT AND INCONSIDERATE!!! HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE !! Do not book with them! Or at least get your late checkout requested in WRITING ! NEVER AGAIN will I book with them. read more

Absolutely loved this property. Stayed here 4 nights for work and loved every minute of it. The room was amazing. Huge bed, soft pillows, updated furniture, patio door that overlooked the pool, couch with an ottoman and a desk. The shower had glass doors and there was a refrigerator in my room in addition to a nice spacious armoire. I found this location to be very convenient for every and the front desk was very accommodating as well as friendly. They don't offer free breakfast but the cafe had amazing food and Starbucks Coffee so I was happy. Ordered room service and they were friendly, prompt and the food was outstanding. They have plenty of parking and nice areas indoors and outdoors for private time alone or with someone. Benches, tables and nice scenery for calling home to check-in or if you want to work on your laptop without sitting in your room. I would stay here without a doubt and I recommend you do too. read more

I checked in very late to the Courtyard in Montvale but was treated with a courteous hotel employee whom offered me great advice on parking suggestions based on my room and how full the lot may be. The room was very clean and very comfortable. The furnishings were very nice quality including a comfy couch with ottoman and business desk with office chair. If that wasn't good enough there was a great business center and common area down just behind the lobby with a lot of area just in case it was busy to accommodate a large number of guests. The hotel is positioned just under an hour from New York City (depending on time of day) which gets you away from the craziness that can accompany the city but is close enough to get plenty done on a day trip to NYC! Will certainly be back the next time I am staying in the area. read more

Booked a room as part of a block for a friends wedding - rooms had water in it from AC leaking, mold, electric didn't work in some rooms - garbages were overflowing - employee TERESA was completely unprofessional - laughed in the bride and grooms faces when they approached her with their complaints - told them there was nothing she could do and good luck getting anywhere with their complaints because "she knows people in high places" she told an 84 year old woman that they didn't need her business after she complained her room was soggy with water - one guest could have been electrocuted because her room was wet and the electric was shoddy - an apology was not even given let alone any mention of refunds - I will be canceling my Marriott membership and will never stay in a Marriott or affiliate hotel again based on their lack of customer service and unprofessionalism - absolutely DISGUSTING and DISGRACEFUL - DO NOT STAY IN THIS HOTEL EVER!!! read more

Overall, I'm a fan of Courtyard by Marriotts. The chain hotels are usually pretty good, because you know exactly what you are getting yourself into. My wife and I spent a night here and everything went smooth. The hotel itself is located less than a mile off the ol' Garden State Parkway and relatively easy to find. The parking lot isn't huge, but we were able to get a spot. Check-in was a breeze. We had a room with a king sized bed that also came with a sofabed. Although the room was a little oddly shaped, everything was clean and seemed relatively new. Bed was comfortable, plenty of desk space and the bathroom was updated. We even had a little bit of a porch area, but it was March so we didn't use it. This particular Courtyard was definitely a nice hotel and I would have absolutely no problem staying here again. The hotel is also attached to the Fire N Oak restaurant...you can go here to grab a meal or have a drink. read more

This was by far my best hotel stay. I booked two suites for two nights and was not disappointed. Amanda G. helped me book my block of rooms for my wedding, book my shuttle to my venue, and answered all of my emails/phone calls within the hour. The front desk was more than accommodating, especially when my 10+ bridesmaids, stylists, and photographers entered and left the hotel. Absolute worst service at this hotel. Upon check in there was some misunderstanding about how the room would be billed as my company is paying for my stay. The manager, Michael, continually cut me off to tell me to listen to him in a very condescending manner. But that wasn't the worst part, he was training a gentleman named Robert who had a name tag that identified him as "maintenance". Robert decided to take it upon himself to give his personal feedback about his dislike for my attitude. At this point he took off his nametag and verbally threatened me. I'm a 5'3 woman travelling alone in business... Thankfully a co-worker was staying in the hotel and offered to switch rooms so I would feel safe. WORST FEELING EVER. Not only will my company never book here again, I will never stay at another Marriott in my life. When the assistant GM called me to follow up, she tried to avoid discussing the incident only to tell me about the billing issue again. Never apologized. This is a spectacular hotel with high standard facilities and amenities. An amazing experience that myself and the entire wedding group who stayed at your hotel. Everyone just had positive feedback about how marvelous are the facilities and the professionalism of the staff. Huge convenance that the hotel provided two round trip coach buses to the venue was also amazing and kept our guests safe. Our suite was fantastic and the hotel leaving a sincere card with a bottle of champagne was definitely a special heart felt surprise. The Fire and Oak restaurant catered our rehearsal dinner, after party and the next day after wedding brunch. Again can't say it enough how special the Marriott made our wedding a success. Michael at the front desk is an instrumental staff member that provided the quality service by demonstrating the professionalism keeping to the highest standards of Marriott Customer service. Pros: - Convenient location - Attached restaurant - Rooms have modern furnishings - Refrigerators in rooms - Welcoming lobby and billiards room for socializing - Walking distance to pharmacy, deli, and strip mall - Clean Cons: - Limited cell phone reception (Verizon) - Spotty wifi reception - Strict deadline to close pool without regard to actual weather conditions (it was 80+ degrees in early October, but the pool was already closed for the season) - The air in the billiards room was stale and stuffy - The bartender asked us to leave the hotel bar because a wedding party was coming in. The hotel bar should be made available to all guests. - There's no bellstaff and the number of luggage carts were limited. First, everybody loves the restaurant in this hotel. It is quite a scene, especially if you hunger for an NJ cougar. But wait, there's more then that packed bar: huge restaurant with very,very good food. Not once disappointed. The hotel is also huge- rooms always available. Spotlessly clean. There is a small bar on way back to rooms and those bartenders very friendly. They watch soccer on the tv -yea! Rooms just fine Courtyard rooms. I have stayed at this place three times and I like it. I did a gig in Chester, NY and even though this hotel is 45 minutes away, I still chose it. Why would I go anywhere else? This hotel is amazing! It's in a great area...conveniently located to everything you want or need. The rooms are spacious, super clean and quiet with very comfortable beds and the staff is amazing...especially AJ at the front desk. They've got a super nice bar and restaurant right on the premises, so you don't even need to leave. If you're traveling with kids (which I wasn't on this trip) it's great as well. They have a super nice outdoor pool. I can't recommend this hotel enough and hope to be back again VERY soon. Great job Montvale Marriott! Keep up the awesome work! read more

After having a few great stays here it's a shame to have to give such a bad review because of probably one person's actions. Just stayed the weekend and checked out on time, at 12pm yesterday. Later that evening I realized there 2 shirts left in the wardrobe. My husband called the hotel and spoke with a young gentleman who knew him by name. He explained to the front desk the situation and he was told that it wouldn't be a problem, he would have the shirts at the front desk by tomorrow because the cleaning staff must have not cleaned the room yet. Today, my husband received a phone call saying that nothing was found. LIARS. How disheartening to think there are such dishonest people? The room wasn't left a mess and a generous tip was left for housekeeping so to be told that they didn't even have the decency to bring a couple shirts to the lost and found is crazy to me. The actions of one employee can really smear the image of a place! In hindsight the front desk should've retrieved the items immediately instead of waiting. Lesson learned. I'll stay at the Hilton down the street from now on. read more
