Short version: Safe yourself the headache and stay somewhere else. Long version: When I arrived, I was told I'd been given an upgrade to a suite - room 208. Unfortunately, the room was filthy, the carpet was literally sticky, the ceiling looked like it had water damage, and one of cupboard doors fell off when opened. The worst was that the GENIUS that designed the building, put the elevator at the very back corner of the building. So I was stuck carrying luggage up and down stairs because my room was at the front. (If you do dare stay here, get a high number room.) But wait, there's more... How about being DOUBLE CHARGED to the tune of almost $900?!! I overheard someone else in line complaining of the same thing so I know it's a known issue. The ultimate insult was no one could explain why I was double charged, nor would they even drop some of the incidental charges, so you know, I had money to eat. Instead, I was forced to eat the worst excuse for a BLT from the market fridge, because I had no money to buy elsewhere. I don't know how to stress enough how much this trip wore me down, grossed me out, and ticked me off. For the final act, I checked out at 530a and was told the hold would be dropped from my card & I'd have an emailed receipt "within an hour". (As I wrote this, it's been 6 hours and NOTHING.) Unfortunately this is very poor place for Courtyard. The basics aren't there. The building doesn't have a name, It is two story building in the front and rear is 3 story. They have a single elevator but it is diagonally across from the entrance, so a long long walk. You could take stair they told me - well how doesn't one do that with bags. We were upgraded to a suite thanks to my Titanium status but the air conditioning in the bedroom didn't work - it took me sometime to realize it after unpacking and they offered to change the room, in that room the air-conditioning was disabled in the living room and it worked in the bedroom. We changed the room one more time again. What a workout. There aren't many good options I am told in rockford, Embassy being the only reliable option. But if you're looking for a cheaper location may be consider alternatives across the street - hopefully they aren't as bad - there is holiday inn, Fairfield, Hilton garden inn nearby. On Marriott has it 3.8 star review, that doesn't do justice - it needs to be average 2 star at most. read more

Very nice lobby and bar/breakfast area. The room needed updating and the A/C system wouldn't turn on. The microwave is on the desk which makes it unusable as a desk. The iron leaked and the the iron ing board cover was so worn thin that I had a grid pattern on my ironed shirt from the metal underneath. The place looks like a bomb off. They don't honor the breakfast that they claim even though we had a and in general, I would say go anywhere else but here we thought they were closed when we pulled up. It's all tore up and they're too cheap to turn their lights on at night read more

This is the Courtyard from 1990. It doesn't look like anything has been updated since it was built. Everything is used and abused. The thermostat in all rooms have a minimum temperature setting of 68°. That might be okay if the actual temperature came even close to that. When it's 90° and humid, it would be nice to have your room temperature somewhere in the 70's. No Kleenex, no toiletries, no nothing. And just one elevator in the back of the hotel. We're Bonvoy Platinum so we usually get a free continental breakfast but not here. A "welcome gift" of a bottle of water and a plastic wrapped square of cake. Overall, a disappointing experience. Come on Marriott, you can do better. UPDATE: We stayed 2 more nights in another room. It was a much better experience. A/C worked better and we had toiletries. But why the different experiences in the same hotel? read more

Not even close to what Marriott standards used to be...drive up to check in, 1st impression, draperies in lobby were all scrunched up on bottom in all windows! Just a nesting place for all sorts of stuff. AND who hung those and thought they were good???? And rooms are the same way, it just feels dirty and old Scratches on all furniture, carpet not the best. Nothing special about this place except for the location. Right off the highway and next to restaurants and night life. There's a small bar/bistro in the lobby area which is normal for Marriott hotels. It was closed when we checked in at around 8 pm. They have a little convenience store that also sells alcohol but they have to stop selling at 2 AM. Everything seemed clean except for the bug in the curtain. The pool is open until 10 pm but you have to go to the front desk for a key and reserve a 1-hour time slot. The most annoying part of our stay was the tornado siren-like sound that was coming from the bathroom shower head. It was going off every minute for 5 minutes at a time. Our toilet also clogged but when I called the front desk they said the maintenance guy left for the evening so they sent us a plunger and had to do it ourselves. Probably due to the holiday but be prepared to wait for maintenance if there are outside hours for the maintenance guy. Also note, they do not have USB ports for charging devices. You'll need a plug-in for a charger. Other than that, there are just little things: broken drawers (they wouldn't close because they were off their track), cabinet that wouldn't close because the mini fridge was too big, uncomfortable pullout bed (uneven frame). Awesome hotel. Reserved the room through Priceline. Checked in with no problems, and the staff was very courteous and attentive. We even got "guest of the day" which included upgrade to a suite, gift bag, and free breakfast in the morning. Very clean room. Numerous free amenities are available, such as guest, laundry, Wi-Fi and business, computer area, etc. The bistro, provided a delicious breakfast the next morning. Unfortunately a family member was in the hospital so we got rooms online for this hotel. I really liked it. The check in/out process was easy. The rooms had microwaves and a mini fridge. The room was clean. The bed and pillows were heavenly AND the shades fully closed so it kept it dark. The room wasn't anything spectacular but it didn't need to me. It was exactly what we were looking for. The lobby was clean and i didn't get to eat at the restaurant but it looked nice. The pool was nice size too. Great outdoor seating and relaxing area. Every employee I spoke to was very kind and knowledgeable. I would def stay at this hotel again. read more

We have stayed at several Marriott hotels over the years. Unfortunately this Rockford location left a lot to be desired. Check in was fairly easy. That was the best part. Once we got to our room the first thing we noticed was a musty smell. The next thing we noticed was how dimly lit the room was. Well we figured that we would only be here for less than 24 hours so we could deal with it. The biggest surprise had to be the TV. Their TV only had analog channels. I wasn't even aware that analog channels were still available. I mean we weren't expecting satellite TV, but analog was a surprise. Maybe in some small desolate town, but Rockford has a population of over 147,000. The beds were adequate and the bathroom while again had poor lighting was spacious. We thankfully didn't spend too much time at the hotel as we had a lot planned the day that we visited however there was even a hiccup on the check out. We had asked about their requirements for an early checkout as we planned to leave around 5am. They stated we could leave the keys and give them a call. Well that call turned out to be a few calls after being transferred around. This was on a prepaid room too. After we had checked out we noticed that there was an additional charge for parking that we should not have been charged for. This took two calls before that was corrected and refunded. We have certainly enjoyed our previous stays at Marriott hotels. This was unfortunately falls short of those expectations. read more

Things look a little different these days in a pandemic. But we made a good choice to stay the night h0ere as a couple. We were able to reserve a time for the pool and we had the whole pool to ourselves. They gave us a rate under $100 and a Valentines bad with suckers and candy. The room is small but it does have a separate toilet/ shower area with a sink and mirror station between. So that's what makes the room smaller. But there was clean white bedding and the decor is not awful. The shower felt great. Mini fridge and wifi included. The TV has an app section that you can sign into your Netflix or Amazon Videos and HBO was included free with the HBO app. There are cosmetic dings here and there. Staff was friendly and helpful. Would come back anytime. Oh did I mention you can get Starbucks coffee from the Bistro?! read more

I rate this Courtyard slightly below average when compared to other Marriott Courtyard hotels. The facility is a little dated and looks like an older Courtyard. The employees are friendly and helpful. I have stayed here multiple times and can not get my iPad to connect to the hotel's wifi. They charge an arm a leg for snacks. A soft drink, or pop for the yankees, is almost $4. A candy bar is also almost $4. This is a little steep. read more

I'm not one to really write reviews but I have to for this experience...... I am here on a work trip for 2 weeks and my stay has not been pleasant. The first week I stayed here I was in room 208. Whenever I was in my room I did not feel well and I developed a huge migraine. Something told me something wasn't right. So I started looking around the room and what do you know I find mold. The mold was hidden by the shades and was all in the window seal. You can tell there is mold all under the wallpaper and within the wall. I'm 7 weeks pregnant so I was very concerned. I called the desk and they sent someone up to look at it. She was a female and I wish I would have got her name. She said yeah that's not mold. The wall is just stained.... are you serious?!?! She said we will add some point to your rewards card for the inconvenience. I was appalled; here I am a property adjuster and I'm being told this isn't mold.... The lady called me back and said we don't see you have a rewards card, would you like one? (Just what I need, a rewards card for a company who lets people stay in rooms with mold). I said no and that I wanted to switch rooms and I'm pregnant and not staying in this mood. She said she would have to check and get back to me. She called back and said my room was ready. I advised I was leaving and can't switch till later tonight as I will be out for work inspections. She said she needed me out of my room so they could sell it? Sell it I said? This room has mold and you're going to put someone in the room when you know there is mold in there? UNBELIEVABLE!!!! I was told a supervisor would be calling me the next couple days. Which never happened..... so I went to talk to the front desk. She said we had someone else relook at it and it's not mold?!?! I showed her the pictures and her eyes were wide and she asked that I forward the pictures to her. This was yesterday.. Mold is a process to get out of the room. So today I walked down to get breakfast, which is extremely over priced.....and there was someone in 208....THEY HAD THE NERVE TO PUT SOMEONE IN THIS ROOM WITH MOLD. Lawsuit? Helped me remember why I'm primarily a Hilton guy. Friendly check in and really comfortable bed but that's about it for positive news. Restaurant service was pretty surly at times. Don't know when I've stayed at a place that doesn't have complementary coffee. $2.62 a cup. Rate was 'ok' at $111.00 per night plus taxes, etc. but there are probably better deals around. I was staying as part of a large group and had I been on my own would have probably looked elsewhere. read more

Currently a platinum elite member of the Marriott Brand. Used to be 100% loyal. As of late the cleanliness is questionable. Staff was very nice and accommodating upon check in. Down hill from that point. Assigned room 168, unpacked, rested and went to shower. Black mold everywhere. Went to front desk, again very nice and switched rooms. New room is 178. Before "moving" I inspected and sure enough more black mold. Third trip and third room it was finally mold free. For my inconvenience though I was offered a free market item. Guess I'll have to switch all my 100+ nights of stay to other brands. read more

I spend about 80 nights per year in hotels and stayed for two nights while traveling on business. The lobby is renovated, but the hallways and rooms are definitely ready for a refresh. The hotel had a mildew smell all throughout that was hard to escape, even in the room. The room was clean besides the smell and had a typical Courtyard layout. I checked in late at night and the front desk staff was attentive and very friendly. I would consider staying here again in the future but would explore other options first. It is a big property so make sure you park near your room. There are several restaurants and hotels in close proximity, including a Starbucks. read more

This place is on State Street close to the freeway and next to Thunder Bay restaurant. I didn't spend much time in my room but the place was clean and all the lightbulbs and electrical sockets worked. The Air Conditioning kept my room cool how I like it. The rooms appear to be more modern than most. I was really impressed with the couch in the room with many different uses for it. The room comes with a refrigerator to keep your beer and wine cold. I did pay extra for the streaming WIFI as I had a webinar/audio conference that I needed to attend and did not have any service interruptions. They do offer free WIFI for standard web browsing/e-mail. There was plenty of parking close to my room and the service from the front desk was good. My only complaint that their breakfast restaurant was overpriced and the food was nothing great so I only ate there once. There are plenty of other breakfast options in the area. read more

A bit of a let down... I remember when Courtyard used to be THE standard for basic business travel. Never lavish, but consistently good. The Courtyard Rockford is frozen in 1988. Same curtains. Same sofa. Same carpet. Same furniture. Same comforter. It seemed good in back then. Not so much now. Your basic Hampton Inn, at the same pricepoint or maybe a bit less, puts this place to shame. Everything in my room worked, and it was clean. The front desk operation was quick, friendly, and efficient. All good. However, the exercise room featured a bike that did not work. Looking around, it was not even plugged in! So they KNOW it doesn't work, but rather than replace it or fix it, they just unplugged it an left it in there like a prop. That's poor. read more

Every staff member I encountered was extremely friendly and helpful. My room was clean, I was there for 5 nights and had no issues with the room. Shower had excellent pressure and tons of hot water. Used the pool area once and it was very clean and relaxing. Wifi was great, however, occasionally it would just stop and I would have to work to get it logged back on. Only real complaint was bistro was closed on Sunday evening when I needed a late dinner. It was closed because the hotel was under 30% occupancy. So, I am not entitled to the hotel amenities unless more people are there? read more

We especially enjoyed the courtyard in the middle. Totally remodeled inside and out as of February 2014: very very comfortable beds, everything is clean and spotless... front desk is excellent ...price was terrific especially with the military rate. Front desk managers name was Cody who happen to have worked in our hometown Tucson Arizona. he was super helpful even came to our room to explain a couple items to us that we had questions about. This might be kind of a weird review, but I was blown away with how low ceilings were in some locations. My boyfriend is 6'-6" and his head almost brushed the ceilings in the stairwell and he had to walk along the wall in the halls to avoid hitting his head on the ceiling lights. The room ceilings were 10-12'....so why such a huge drop in the ceilings!? Also, One place I saw said complimentary breakfast, but that was false. Apparently it's only free for certain rate packages, not from third party bookings. We weren't about to pay for overpriced sandwiches! All that said, the room was clean, staff friendly. If you are planning to have guests stay here as part of an event, such as a wedding, PLEASE use a different hotel. The staff at Courtyard were difficult to work with from the start. My wedding was a breeze to plan and I was not stressed about anything, except for working with Courtyard. My husband and I booked with Courtyard because we were told that if we booked a block of rooms for our wedding, we could get the hotel shuttle for free- great deal, right? About 5 months before our wedding, I contacted the hotel to see if we could set up the shuttle times, as we had our wedding day timeline finished, and to see if our guests could have an early check in, since they would need to leave the hotel by 2:30 to make it to our wedding venue. They explained that they couldn't set up any times until it was closer to the date. 2 weeks before my wedding, I tried multiple times to get in contact with someone at the hotel to set up the shuttle times. They told me that the person in charge of this was unavailable, and they would get back to me later because no one could help me with this. I tried calling every day that week, and they kept having me leave voicemails for a random person who never called me back. Finally, the week before my wedding, I got a hold of someone who proceeded to explain to me that my guests could no longer use the hotel shuttle to my wedding because there was another wedding booked at the hotel that had more people. I was livid. I then had to book a party bus a week away from my wedding because the hotel gave mine away. Then, the day before the wedding, I stopped by to drop off gift bags for my guests. The staff looked at me like I was an idiot and they were very confused. I had to coach them through everything. I then checked on my room, as my husband and I booked a room for Friday and Saturday night the weekend of our wedding. They were on the computer for a long time, couldn't give me concrete answers and said they needed to check with someone and would get back to me later. I'm pretty sure they messed up my booking info, even though we booked our room in October of 2017 and our wedding was in June of 2018. When I checked in Friday night after our rehearsal dinner, they almost didn't have a room ready for me. Overall, they took away the shuttle for my guests, which I only knew because I called to find out, and made it so our guests had to check in at midnight after our reception because they refused to let them check in 1 hour early. VERY difficult to work with. If you are using a hotel for a wedding or an event, PLEASE go to any of the other hotels in this area! read more

I've reviewed a lot of hotels, and I have a pretty high tolerance so long as there's a decent bed and the TV works, but there were a couple things about this place that knocked off a couple stars. Firstly, the room was fine, except for the horrific Marriott beds. When will someone who works in their purchasing department stay at any recent Hampton Inn. That's right - your hotel doesn't have to give you debilitating back pain. Specifically to this hotel - I was in a wedding block - and it turns out that the wedding block was $10-20 more per night than if I had just booked the room myself and not mentioned the wedding. Shady, to say the least. Finally - they knew I was going to have more than one person in the room, and ensured me I would have a pullout sofa in addition to the bed, but they didn't leave any linens or extra pillows at all. I guess, shame on me for not checking until 3am after the reception. But still. Anyway. This place worked? But there were a lot of Hilton properties nearby at which I could have pretended to be big and important and used my status. Watch your credit card for hidden fees! I booked this hotel as a prepay through Booking.com. The hotel hit my credit card for 2 $7 per day parking fees. This charge was never disclosed to me through booking.com or at check-in. The hotel was decent, but we'll never stay again due to the hidden fees. Let me start by saying my mother who is disabled and elderly had a reservations for this hotel on April 3rd 2021. after traveling over 600 miles to see her son in the ICU the hotel clerks behind the front desk that night treated her like crap. They were very rude and unwelcoming. As a result she had to book at another hotel which I'm thankful that they had rooms available. You know what I like about the Courtyard? That there's actually a courtyard at the Courtyard. Pretty cool. Anyway, my husband and I were recently guests of the Courtyard Rockford during a long weekend. We had a good experience, and I would stay there again. The room was clean and modern. We had a king-sized bed with a couch, desk and coffee table. It also had a flat-screen TV, a hair-dryer and an ironing board. There was some other stuff in the room too, like pictures hanging on the walls and there was a bathroom and closet, but I'll skim over those and get to the best part: the balcony. I love balconies, I love outdoor space, and I was so happy when I found out this hotel had balconies. If you're not on the second floor, however, you really only get a sliding glass door that opens up onto some greenery. It's not even really a patio. Luckily, we were on the second floor, so we were able to enjoy our balcony. As some of the other Yelps mentioned, there aren't many complimentary perks with this hotel. It does offer breakfast, but it's $5 per person. Coffee and tea are free in the check-in area. They give you complimentary shampoo, conditioner and soap. The man who checked us in at the front desk was very friendly. The parking lot was well-lit. The bed and bedding were very comfortable and clean, and I had a good night's sleep every night.
