I enjoyed my stay here and would definitely stay again. The only thing that I would have been a bonus is I made a request in advance for a late check out because I was doing a lot of driving and I did a reminder request that day of my check-in but they were unable to accommodate. That didn't diminish my stay though. The room was clean, the bed super comfortable and the ac worked. It is true you can hear action in the hallways or if the person ext door is loud and it sounded like a pet animal was visiting next to me but it wasn't at a point we're it disrupted me. If there's a party or a family with lots of kids playing in the hallways or maybe unruly Teens I can see that being a problem. The front desk receptionist was friendly when I arrived and I needed extra soap and shower caps and that was provided for me. I didn't try room service or the bistro downstairs but I do know they had one available. Also I didn't use it but the fitness room and pool were also open. Finding the entrance can be a bit tricky especially in the dark for the first time. Definitely use your GPS. And be careful of deer, foxes and bunnies. The Courtyard is on the right. It's in a nice area with a good amount of places to eat and not far from a selection of others if the ones near by doesn't appease your palette. read more

Trash experience. Had a room with two queen beds booked, show up, best they can do is a king with a pull out. Because they're money hungry here and would rather overbook than make sure they have enough rooms to take care of paying guests. End up in a room with a tiny, junk pull out 'couch.' Not worth the $220+ I just paid for the night, and a miserable experience for the person traveling with me. Don't boom if you actually need the accommodations you book. I'm a Titanium Elite member and they didn't care about me, so they sure won't care about you either. They gave me 2,000 points for the inconvenience.. what's that? $20 of points? One needs a quiet retreat after a day of globe trotting, and one of our favorite rest stops is a Matriott establishment. Off-the- main road so quiet location, plenty of parking and helpful pleasant staff upon entry. Plenty of the trolleys to carry our luggage to the room. Seamless check in and free water given to us at the desk...and sweets from being a valued member. BTW, left my toiletries and they were so kind to provide tooth brushes and tooth paste. Off to the room, elevator and overall facility was clean, well let and comfortable. Indoor pool was available...small but functional. Other amenities, like fitness center. Room was nice, you could although well maintained a bit dated. Limited outlets and no connections for data cables. Coffee, no tea, TV mounted to table limited viewing somewhat. No chair height, low flow toilet...knees on the floor....ha ha ha . The shower was unpleasant and quite frustrating due to the low water flow... read more

It was ok. The have a fridge & microwave unlike some of the other hotels around. The staff is pretty friendly...I guess. My biggest issue is the pool. It is tiny as it is, but the pool rules aren't enforced. These 4 little boys were not accompanied by an adult and were throwing a football around. They hit a friend of mine once & were warned. I'm hoping it doesn't continue. If it does, it is going to be a mess. read more

A decent hotel for the area. Not too far from good restaurant, shops, or the military bases. Staff is friendly, helpful, and accommodating. Rooms and lobby are gorgeous! Great place to stay if you are going TDY/TAD for the military. Mostly every aspect of this Marriot sponsored hotel was clean and organized. From check-in to check out -- great experience. The lobby is beautiful and very comfortable. The staff is friendly and helpful. I had a 3rd floor king room that was everything I could ask for. Only reasons I did not give it a 5 star: pool size and thin walls. The pool is very small and no hot tub.Thin walls - as I lay in my bed, I can hear the people next door laughing and talking. That I didn't care for too much but it wasn't enough to downgrade further. The pros helped. The decor is really cool. The sofa is different and I liked that. See the pics. While a good hotel overall, and a place I'll stay again in the future, there are things about the Courtyard Suffolk Chesapeake that run hot and cold. Running Hot: Front desk staff and housekeeping are always fantastic. It's nice to be warmly greeted when you come into the hotel each time, and told to have a nice day when you're walking out. A-OK: The rooms are always clean and well kept and everything always works. The rooms are clean, with a fridge and microwave. The heat and AC works as they should. The only thing they could add to the rooms are in-room safes. Parking is plentiful in a semi-dedicated lot that the Courtyard shares with a sister hotel next door. Never a shortage of spots. Running Cold: Breakfast. Mediocre food at best and definitely not worth the prices charged. Okay, sometimes you pay a little extra for the convenience--I understand. In this case I'm basing my thoughts on what I see when I travel and stay in other comparable places--this doesn't hold up to similar offerings. What makes it worse is the staff that takes your orders and serves your food. I'm pretty sure the core group is the same across my last several visits, which is why I'm mentioning it in the review. Even if they're not though, the attitudes of that part of the staff have been the same each of the several times I've had breakfast in the hotel. With such a great reception and housekeeping staff, I don't understand how the same place can have a consistently bad group of people working breakfast service. The few times I've gone ahead and had breakfast at the hotel, I've felt like I was imposting for simply ordering something straight off the menu. This most recent experience included giving my order to someone I could only describe as angry, then receiving a number to put on my table. It took 20-25 minutes for my food to come out. During that time I watched staff members walking food out to various tables (including mine) and asking asking patrons, "did you order this?" Apparently the numbers sitting on the customers' tables didn't matter. Finally my food came out, but went to another table first before the young lady walked up to me and asked if it was mine. I said it was, she set the plate on the table and took off. She didn't bring silverware and moved away from the table so fast I had to get up to ask another employee for some. I was huffed at and received an eye-roll for asking. Basically the same attitude that the person taking my order had. So the review sounds negative, but I'm highlighting something that is a single bit of tarnish in an otherwise nice hotel. It would be great to enjoy a nice breakfast worth the price, but the real reason I'm there is for a place to work in the evenings, and to sleep comfortably. The Courtyard Suffolk Chesapeake delivers that for sure, so the 3-star rating stands in spite of the recurring breakfast issue. (I've also given this feedback directly to the hotel/chain.) read more

I just stayed here recently on a business trip to a facility across the street. When I need to be in at 8 AM, the closer I can get, the better. I cannot attest to the breakfast, as I did not eat there. It is sad that there isn't any food service beyond breakfast, and no bar whatsoever, because the only restaurant nearby is a fancy steakhouse. Other than that, you need to drive into the main part of Suffolk, which looked pretty sparse on choices, or over to another city entirely for food (Norfolk at least has great eats). Also, no bar, which makes me sad. The other negative thing I noticed is that the pool is only 3-4 feet deep, and very small. It's a nice place to dip into after the hot tub, but otherwise is pointless. The Town Suites next door have a real pool outside, but I'm not sure if Courtyard guests can use it. Other than that, I really enjoyed the hotel. The main reason I gave it a 3 is because it's an average, weighed down by the lack of food and a crap pool. My room was very clean and modern, with a rather comfortable bed. Every little touch in the room was there, down to a very nice big screen TV, plant in the room, small refrigerator, etc. For the couple times I had to talk to the service folks at the front desk and the cleaning people, everyone was very nice and helpful. I would totally repeat if I have to go to the area again. read more

It's decent enough and seems clean and typical to the kind of Marriott establishments we usually visit. There are some quirks in design and room layout but for this price, I can ignore it. However, it seems to be a haven for people who don't respect the fact that other patrons might be sleeping at 11:30pm or 3-4am. I ignored the 11:30 people because once they got ice they got quiet. The 3am Folks continued for over an hour after they got in from whatever bar closed on them. I realize the hotel isn't directly responsible for patrons actions. However, I called the operator to complain at 3:30 and it took a half hour for there to be a knock on their door. That's not really what I consider acceptable response time. I doubt we'll be back. read more

How can a new hotel be such a wreck. Not a mess but really dirty. But wait there is more, poor service, and slow elevators. June 2008 the place could only be a few months old. My first room wasn't cleaned. I walked into the bathroom and toilet has urine stains a lot. Second room, slightly cleaner but several of the recessed lights didn't work and the thermostat was erratic. So how can a buffet breakfast have bad service? Ask this hotel. Maybe I'm high maintenance by asking for milk for cereal. Yep there wasn't any on the buffet. No they didn't run out I was the only one eating. It took two of them forever to get me milk. But wait there is more - well really less - I got the bill and wanted to give them more than a dollar for a tip so I asked for change of a $20. Big mistake five minutes after they had my money they are struggling with the math on how to make change. Eek! Next time just leave them the change even if it is just a penny. Take no pity on the fools. Here is a hotel that is sold out with a restaurant that is empty, they closed the bar due to lack of customers. Hum what do you think the is the reason? Ok now the really bad news. This is the best hotel in the area without crossing a river. My advise take the hit on the commute stay somewhere else!!!! read more

Great experience. Very friendly and accommodating staff. I had reservations at the Towne Place next door but they were overbooked and moved me to the Courtyard. The front desk called me a few hours before arriving, explained the situation, included breakfast at no cost, and had my room ready when I arrived. They made what could have been a stressful situation very pleasant. The hotel was very clean. Room was nice. Housekeeping staff very courteous and professional. Restaurant employees, service, and food was great. Parking was available every time I needed it. All in all a great experience. THANKS! read more

The individual who checked us in was wonderful. However, our room didn't have any covers other than a sheet. When we went to ask for a comforter the staff member was rude and told us they don't just put those in rooms anymore. We were told that guests have to ask for comforters! What hotel doesn't provide their guests with anything more than a simple sheet?! This is the second time I've had this happen at a Marriott in Virginia. We were also woken up from 12:00-1:45 a.m. from people yelling and screaming in the hallway. Based on what the other guests were saying in the morning there were arrests that happened in the hotel. read more

Stayed one night and it was good. Only used the room. I usually check in after breakfast and sleep during the evening meal so I can't review the restaurant other than it stinks not being able to eat at this chain. The room was nice. The a/c never got below 71 degrees but it must have been a cool 71 because I was able to sleep. I normally can't below 68 degrees. The bed was comfortable. The only restaurant close was an expensive chop house that I didn't feel like walking to. Would go back. read more

It was my birthday weekend and when we arrived to check-in, the hotel was overbooked and they sent us for a free night at the comfort suites down the road. Please keep in mind, we had a reservation. Not ideal because the rooms were not cleaned to normal standards but at least there was a free breakfast. When we arrived the second night, they were again overbooked but since they promised us a room (and we were not staying a second night at the comfort suites), they gave us the hearing impaired room. The room was nice. Hopefully, no one with a hearing impairment attempted to check-in after us. Overall, it was a great weekend but Marriott needs to stop overbooking and sending customers down the road. read more

I had a great stay here! I am from out of town and the bistro attendant, Regan, really made me feel comfortable and at home. I was impressed with how he was able to take care of all the customers and make sure everything was regularly sanitized during this time. He really listens to what people want and did his best to make everyone happy, even with a limited menu. He was so knowledgeable about the food, drinks, and surrounding area. We checked into this Marriott based on the great reviews and previous decent experiences at other Marriott locations. I am currently here & NEVER will book this hotel again. If you plan on calling guest services in the middle of the night repeatedly (because of unruly groups of guests screaming in the hallway and in their rooms between 1am-4am), this is the place for you. We had to call guest services twice already due to hollering, partying of guests, & constant slamming of doors. Extremely thin walls. After finally being able to go back to sleep from the first 145 am alarm of yelling and cursing guests for 20-25 mins. I currently hear entire conversations of cursing guests who are trying to post videos on social media now & upset because their phones are dead. We can't move rooms because the hotel is fully book. Do yourself a favor and spend a couple of extra dollars at the Westin if you prefer to sleep & not to have to call multiple times for security to come tame their guests. read more

This is a very nice Marriott. I loved the room layout, very modern looking. The staff is very friendly. My only complaint is the noise. The walls are very thin I could hear people walking the halls, talking loudly and I could hear the persons tv and talking from next door. Also my room had a lot of fruit flies and I found ants crawling on me so I'm a little confused about that. Other then that the hotel has a lot of potential. read more

This hotel is a fine establishment. All of the employees are very friendly, professional and accommodating. The rooms are clean and the amenities are great. This hotel also works together very well with its sister property next door. I recently tried to book a room but there were no vacancies. The clerk was able to check the availability next door, call over and get me a substantial discount and book the room for me. When I got over to the Town Place Suites they were waiting for me with my room key and a smile! read more

I spent a week here and, from someone who is finicky about hotel rooms, the room was so clean and beautiful and comfortable! Also, just as important, all the staff provided excellent service, especially Xander at the front desk, and the staff at the kitchen/bar. They made my stay more wonderful!
