My 8 old year son is autistic & we avoid getting haircuts because of his sensory issues, usually haircuts lead to major tantrums. We've tried other places, tried bribing him and it always ended with him in tears and my husband & I so frustrated and defeated. Today we tried out Cousin's styling studio & it was great! They offer sensory-friendly sessions which is what led me to book with them in the first place & from the very first interaction on the phone it was a great experience. They asked how old my son was and if there was anything they needed to do. We booked an early morning appointment to help prevent overstimulating my kiddo. Got a cut by the guy at the first chair. Asked for a not to high zero fade comb over. He didn't fade into the top off my head in the right side. And the fade starts an inch higher than my left. I found this place on yelp, I've been here about 4 times now & it is very close to my home so it makes it even better! I have a 3 year old with autism, kids with this kind of disability tent to be very sensitive to sounds, touch, taste & light. My son has very bad sensory issues which makes it 100x harder to find a barber shop. The young man here is very patient although he doesn't know my son has autism he is very kind and his haircuts are always great, he works very well with Him, I'm sure he works well with other kids as-well! I came here thinking I was gonna look fly but my main barber Jonathan wasn't here but the new barber was so I gave him a try. I asked this man for a bald taper then he asked me what Is that. That's when I knew I fucked up coming here. I pointed to one of the haircut pictures and asked him to cut me like that. First time here, my son needed a haircut before prom and decided to drop in since we were next door already for his tux. While waiting, my daughter and I sat by the windows next to the entrance. We had our heads down watching youtube when all of a sudden we had a cloud of hair blown towards us....sheesh, the barber they call Johnathan (prob the owner) had used the blow dryer to blow away hair from his patron, but he could have had the sense to let us know so we can move. We had hair all over us....my toddler girl was just like "ewwww". He did not apologize at all. As good as my son's haircut turned out to be, we will not be going back. This was my first time coming to this shop. The hospitality from the owner was very nice, however he was not the one who cut my hair. Specifically asked for a certain haircut, I even showed the barber pictures of the look. He didn't seem to really put much effort or ask any questions. In the end, he gave me a mediocre comb over, not at all what I wanted. I would have appreciated if he didn't know how to do the look to let me know, that wouldn't have upset me.
