I had to fly into Silver City (Grant County Airport) for a meeting in Lordsburg. There are no…read morerental cars at the airport. The only options are Enterprise and Taylor Truck & Auto. Enterprise will pick you up and take you to its facility in Silver City. Taylor will leave the car for you at the airport, and you leave it there upon your return. I chose Taylor and was happy with the rental. It was probably more expensive than Enterprise, but it was also more convenient. Pricing was also in line with what I would expect for rentals in a rural area with limited options. The car was also nicer than what I usually get from the name-brand rental companies (Buick Verano, leather seats, all electric options, etc.). It would have been nice if the satellite radio had been activated, but I think even the big names charge extra for that option. Taylor did require that I scan and email my credit card, driver's license, and proof of insurance to them. I did not like having to put sensitive information in an email. I got around that concern by putting the information into a password-protected file and then calling Taylor with the password. It worked out fine.

I had a very pleasant conversation and it sounded like they were going to be able to help me out. I then asked about the price. Well, he told me it was $50 a day, plus other fees and taxes that brought the total to around $90 or maybe slightly less, a day. I was surprised by the amount and said that was expensive, but I continued on with the process which included having him fax me a rental agreement the next day. Well, he called the next day and said he would pass on the rental because he didn't feel comfortable with someone who questioned the cost. Those aren't his actual words, but they were words to that effect. I was quite surprised. I told him that I believed it was expensive, but that I appreciated him having the service available. I didn't get the car, partly because it was expensive and I was able to change my plans, but also because he was going to rent to me because of my surprise at the cost. Will I ever rent from him? No. Will I recommend him? No, but still he is offering a service that apparently no ones else offers on Saturday. I don't know if he ripping people off or not. I'm not in the rental car business so I don't know his expenses. However, I do know that the simple expression of the cost being high was enough for him to say no. Just keep that in mind when you're looking for a car to rent in the Silver City area.

I've been an Automobile technician for 40 years but was 1000 miles away. My son had already had the fault codes read for free at an Auto Zone and we knew it needed an inverter coolant pump. These crooks wanted to replace the engines water pump plus the inverter and the hybrid battery for several thousand dollars, so we towed the car 100 miles to Viva Toyota in Las Cruces where they knew what they were doing and treated us honestly and professionally and he was back on the road by noon with only a new inverter pump and a bill less than $500.00. Lawley Silver City installed a transmission (2005 Jeep, 124K miles)…read more After picking up the Jeep (2 weeks later then promised). I drove to California where the Jeep barely made the drive. San Diego Lawley informed, "Only 4 of the 8 bolts holding the transmission to the engine where present, once they got into the transmission they said it was a mess with a myriad of transmission issues, all to do with Service." I returned to Lawley Silver City and shared my experience with head mechanic Marty. Marty in return shared some pearls of wisdom, "It was my own fault for putting a transmission in a used Jeep, and he would never purchase a Jeep." I worked over 30 years in the entertainment industry, so I'm used to arrogant people, but they usually have a skill set to back up their mouth. Marty couldn't even properly install a transmission and blames the Jeep brand. If ya'll don't want to install transmissions into a used Jeep, please inform customers prior to them spending $6,000.00, and we can go else where.
