I wanted to try Stand Up Paddle Boarding (SUP) for about forever…read more The concierge at the Abbey gave me a coupon for a discount rental at nearby Fontana Paddle so I decided to finally give it a go. It was an excellent decision. Rates are reasonable. They fit you with a flotation vest, changing rooms are available and they have small lockers. You do not want to have your smartphone on you in the event you fall in the water on the lake. It is better to lock it up, IMO. The training overview was pretty detailed and there is a lot to remember and coordinate all at once. I liken it to riding a bike or driving a car. Once you learn it, you'll always have it and it becomes normal/natural, until then, you have to remember to switch hands, stay balanced, etc. I did go out too far from where they told me to stay, but that was unplanned. A little wind and then a boat sent me even further out which resulted in my instructor dude coming out on board to see if I was okay and if I could get back in on my own. Embarrassing, but also super cool because he gave me some on water tips that I somehow already had forgotten. Also, the further out you go, the more the wind affects you and there are more boats, so you can expend more energy on balancing rather than paddling enjoyably along. Once my guy knew I was okay and headed more in the right direction he went back and I went on to a very enjoyable experience. Prices are good. Staff is helpful. Get out early on summer weekends, too many boats on the lake will not make for a good SUP experience.

They have a huge selection of standup paddle boards, kayaks and accessories. I am actually wearing one of their shirts right now. Cool thing is, I just found out they sell ans rent snow shoes also. Being right on the lake, a hike on the lake path is something to behold anytime of year. A lot of my Rockford, IL friends kayak and have either friended them on facebook, visited the website or store itself. If you have any questions while you are there, which I always have plenty which I think some are kind of dumb, they are right there to answer them. I plan to take my family for lessons this Spring.

Rented a pontoon on Lake Geneva recently, and it was a lovely experience!…read more Elmers was super easy to connect with. I originally meant to book online, as the portal was easy and straightforward, but we weren't sure the time that worked best for us until the day arrived. So instead, we were able to walk right up to the stand and get booked in. I should preface that this was a Wednesday afternoon, so it wasn't busy. I'd imagine on weekends and in the height of summer you'd want to book/reserve in advance. My dad, a long-time boat owner, took on driving responsibilities. He was given all of the instructions and boat details during a 10-15 min intro from one of the boat workers, who are all teenagers I might add. And I don't mean that in a bad way - they were all super friendly and clearly knew what they were doing. We took our the 'Select Tritoon' boat which was very spacious. I believe it could fit up to 10 people, and we had 8 (2 being small kiddos), so we had plenty of room. It even had high-top, bar-like seating in the middle section which was cool. I'll note as well that the kids are or course required to wear life vests, which were provided to us. They offered a few different sized until we could find the right fit. My only feedback is that I think $500 for 2 hours is steep. Maybe it's because of the area? In Milwaukee, we've rented pontoons for half the price, but double the time. All in all, still a great experience. Definitely rec for visitors.

Parents are not allowed to talk to their children on the phone or in person. I would not recommend this camp. It is very scary and they do not properly vet the camp counselors, nor cabin leaders.

We stayed in the cabins, ate in one of the cafeterias, and spent most of our time by the beach, in the wood shop, in the chapel (way too cold -- someone turn that air-conditioning down please!), and in the game room pavilion. The cabins were as clean as cabins could be with some bugs (it's summer camp, what do you expect?). One bathroom wasn't enough for a room of ten girls, though! The wood shop was cool, and the girls enjoyed hanging out on the beach nearby, jumping in the water or fishing from the pier. The game room pavilion had chairs and some games to play, but it wasn't as appealing as playing in the park, which was in the middle of everything. The cafeteria/kitchen staff was also very accommodating of my request for vegetarian food. The first year, I was too nervous about asking for special food since it was free, so I just dealt with it and ate meat for a week. The second year, there were more vegetarians among the camp volunteers, so we felt more comfortable asking for vegetarian food. They did a great job remembering us and offering alternative foods. The camp and conference center also has a lagoon, paddle boats, canoeing, a paintball arena, sand volleyball, a gym, some high-ropes course thing, and different paths through the woods for team-building or hiking. Great options and great, friendly staff. There's also a lot of other lodging options and other spots to dine, but our kids didn't spend their time there. I guess three camps could occur at the same time. It's just a summer camp spot, but it's a great spot. I'm looking forward to next year!

Had lunch at Oak Fire which was great and some good old fashioned ice cream at Kilwins. Lake was very peaceful. Clean, well maintained area. Has a number of restaurants, many shops, very quaint. Parking is a challenge though. It was hard to find and apparently very closely monitored so watch out for tickets! The apps make it easy to extend time as needed. They also have a Safari experience (we weren't able to make it to the drive through Safari due to ticket unavailability) but seems like a good place to see. They have boat tours as well and boats to rent (although pretty pricey). Overall would recommend!
