The people here are always very helpful with all of our questions. We came to the area from Southern California about 6 years ago. It took us awhile to figure out what works in our Texas climate. Had the best shopping experience this weekend at Covington's. We were trying to match a shrub that had been in place for 30-40 years. Their seasoned and friendly staff knew exactly what we needed, pointed us in the right direction AND the correct shrub was even on sale. Covington's nursery has been in business since 1972. We went Saturday for some bedding plants for our garden They have 18 acres of great plants! They also have very good customer service. During the Cov-19, it's good therapy to work in the yard and do things that have been put off because you're too busy and have no time. These days with sheltering in place you have nothing but time to have your yard become yard of the month. read more

This place is a above average nursery. The employees are very well educated and helpful when asked for advice. I have attended free gardening educational workshops that they host here. I have bought garden plants and supplies here as well always high quality plants. I have also purchased some fruit trees here and they were hardy and did well after planted. I have also bought some soil mixes here in bags and in bulk the material seems to be quality stuff. read more

Everyone here is so helpful and nice! I have a bit of a brown thumb and the associates here gave me suitable recommendations. They have a large selection of houseplants which has been hard for me to find. I bought a gigantor of a elephant ear plant and a interesting little bridal veil guy. They've been living happily in my apartment. The drive may be far for some but it's worth it. read more

UPDATE: UPDATE: Within a couple of hours of my original post, I was contacted by my landscape architect and by the end of the week, all was made right. The remaining dead or dying plants were removed, the old mulch removed, new plants planted, new mulch ($200 worth for free) spread. Looks very good. Then Lee, a very savvy fellow from Covington's with decades of experience, came out and put plant food on the front flower beds, again for free. He then spent considerable time educating me on how to best protect and nurture the new landscape. He gave me some Garrett Juice and tips on the best way to apply it. I am happy that at last everything has been done, over and above I could have imagined. Covington's has restored my trust and confidence. A big thank you to their team! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We had our flower beds completely redone by Covington's, which was a substantial project. The landscape architect did a great job in designing a nice layout for our front and back yard and the installation went well; but I was distressed that, even though I had expressed concern about planting the day before a hard freeze last December, I was assured all would go well if they were well watered (which they were). I was also assured that Covington would replace any plants lost.    As I suspected, that freeze and a subsequent freeze killed many plants in my flower bed; and they have not been replaced.  I have contacted my landscape architect numerous times since early March and have been told repeatedly that she will get to it; eight months later, still nothing has been done.  The growing season is winding down and I wanted the new plants in and well established before the next cold season starts and it looks like that is not going to happen.    Another issue I have and the reason for replacing the plantings on the west side of the house was what I call an infestation of blackberries that was taking over.  They are extremely prickly and I was tired of the battle.  I was told that the soil would be removed and new soil brought in so they would not return.  I think she did not know the tenaciousness of this particular vine because in spring, sprigs of the blackberry vine were coming up all over the new bed.     I am, as you can well imagine, very frustrated and thus the reason for the 1 star review. read more

Spent over $400 a month ago. Planted my shrubs abs we decided we wanted to get bigger ones so we dug up the three we planted and took back to exchange for larger ones... more expensive ones... manager refused. It was my first time to go there when I purchased and was excited to go back exchange and get more things. Drove 40 minutes bypassing all my other regular go to nurseries. They just lost what would've have been a life long regular customer! I would've purchased everything there for when we do our backyard. I'm just stunned! So much for their guarantee read more

I showed up last weekend looking for stone border and plants for a large flower bed that died during the freeze. It did not have a border and since I am particular about how I want it done I am doing it myself. While my wife and I were there we decided on numerous plants to purchase including large holly, rosebushes, etc. Then we asked about stone and got told to head to the very back and pick out what we wanted and we would be charged by the pound - great! We found some great edging stone we liked. Unfortunately we had an emergency and had to leave before gathering up the plants and stone and checking out but we knew what we wanted now. We came back this evening to go ahead and purchase it all, by our estimates probably around $2500 total. We asked for help with the stone first (since we knew it had to be brought up and weighed) and this time we got told that all the stone except for some large boulders is all reserved for landscapers only to purchase and we aren't landscapers. So I'm letting you know that not only did we not purchase the stone because apparently only certain items are for sale (and your employees are half clueless about that fact) we did not purchase the plants either. So you lost out on a $2500 sale. If this was my business I certainly would not run it this way but to each their own. I will not be back. Home Depot down the street got the sale on the border edging - not my first choice but whatever. Plants will probably come from Suburban nursery in Garland or maybe from over in Rockwall. Just letting this business know they are letting sales walk out the door in case they care. read more

Everyone there is so very knowledgeable and so very helpful. I can find deals and management that want to talk to me to be helpful. Today I called asking if anyone had turned in an amethyst earring but no one had. They wanted to take my phone # in case they find it. So i drove on over and rewalked my route. Everyone I ran into that wanted to see if I needed help said they had gotten the call from the office to be on the lookout. Now that is what America is made of. read more

LOVE Covington's!!! Joe, the owner, is just a fantastic down to earth guy! This is one business that actually still cares about its customers. Brandi, Tammy, Mary, and Chuy, are just wonderful!!!! Sometimes I take my daughter here just to explore and kill boredom. I would say it is cheap fun with great opportunities for teaching and learning, but I rarely get out cheap....I just can't control myself when I get here!!!!! Especially in the 1/2 price house, I think that gets me in the most trouble! LOL Also, and this is very key....if you have anything about plant life that you need answered, including infestation or fertilization or anything, someone there KNOWS the answer!!!! Love everything about this nursery!! Because it's so much more than just a plant nursery!! It's a beautifully laid-out botanical experience I suggest you start at the very back of the property & work your way forward. There's so much to see, even before the busy season, but prepare yourself, during the height of the growing season because the way everything is displayed, you'll want to take it all home with you! It's acres of trees... (fruit, native, those for shady areas, full sun areas, flowering & evergreen), agaves, cactus, annual plants, perennial plants, succulents, beautiful pots & planters, yard art, water features, bushes, vegetable plants & hanging baskets. And that's just outside. There's an indoor area with fertilizers, pre-emergents, grass seed, herbicides (chemical & organic), hoses, gloves, lawn tools, kneeling pads & so much more. Then you make your way back up to the front of the nursery, walk up a flight of stairs, lined with gorgeous pots full flowers & plants, to the shop (managed by Tracy, who is AMAZING!!) full of houseplants (common ones & more unusual ones), ferns, ficus trees (hello, "little fiddle" leaf fig tree!!!), air plants, wind chimes, sweet planters of all different sizes and materials, adorable fairy garden figurines, fun home goods with gardening themes (tea towels, books, yard art, watering cans & misters, coffee mugs, etc.) & yummy smelling candles. This is also where you can sign up for upcoming lectures, get on their mailing list, request they order a plant that you really want & in the scorching spring and summer take a reprieve from the Texas heat in the coolness of this man made rain forest like atmosphere while looking at all the goodies As if all of that wasn't enough, you get the added bonus of some of the sweetest, most helpful, energetic people working there. They are extremely knowledgeable & are more than happy to answer all of your questions, so that you can enjoy your purchases and have continued success with them when you get them home. They offer delivery and installation and even have landscape services to help you bring your ideas for a beautiful yard to fruition. They will carry any heavy purchases to your vehicle and secure them so they arrive safely at your home. PLEASE NOTE: if you are a beginner, have little experience with plants/ flowers/trees or think you have a "black thumb" and need detailed instructions on care, etc. be mindful of the time of year and day of the week that you visit Covington; the staff wants to give your questions and concerns enough attention that you feel comfortable with your purchase, however, if you visit the nursery on a weekend day in April to September you might not get the personalized attention that you need, as this nursery is SUPER busy. So, plan accordingly, so that all your concerns can be addressed, and visit in the off season or on a weekday when you're more apt to get personalized attention. And, in the off season, when cooler temperatures have moved in, make sure to visit Covington in the fall when they have a huge pumpkin patch and maze...and near the Christmas season when they have a huge selection of fresh cut Christmas trees! What top notch service. We were not there but a minute before someone came over to help us. The woman was so patience and help us pick out plants to redo our flower beds. Even if the prices were not as awesome as they were, the service and attention to detail would be worth it. She showed us many plants, answered all our questions, and helped us pick out the best plants for the best price. We live in Allen, but it is worth the trip. Covington's is one of Rowlett's best kept secrets. We moved into Rowlett in 1999, and have become frequent customers of Covington's. Their staff is top notch: friendly, helpful, knowledgeable...the list goes on. As other have noted, Covington's may seem on the expensive side, but the quality of the plants more than makes up for it. If you need some cheap, throwaway plants, Covington's is not for you. If you need plants that are vigorous and vibrant, this is your place. In the "back forty", Covington's grows much of their own plants. Those they don't grow, they wholesale from the best growers. Convington's has tons of trees in all sizes on their almost 20 acre plot. Their half-price houses are our regular haunts. My yard is rife with extremely healthy half-price landscaping. If you have ANY plant questions, just ask for Joe Covington. You will often see him walking around the place. If Joe's not there, just ask for Burton. Great people. Have I spent a lot of money at Convington's? Absolutely. But ask me how many of the plants I have purchased there (other than annuals) I have had to replace... read more

Quality nursery for sure! I went here once I moved to Rowlett and though they may not be the cheapest, they provide quality pants that will thrive if you take the time to learn how to care for them. This place is also huge and I would suggest wearing comfortable shoes if you go in planning to "just browse". Nice selection with very knowledgable and helpful staff. I bought a Meyer lemon tree that is thriving and producing many fruits as well as a ton of seasonal color and plants that are still growing when plants i purchased months after at other places have already withered away with the same amount of care. Would recommend for any landscaping need. The only thing I wish is that they had more of a planter/pot selection. read more

One of my favorite places here in Rowlett. Their staff are highly knowledgeable and would not sell a difficult plant to someone who is a novice like me. I like the plants you shove in the ground, give them water and Voila!!! They grow. I find some things that I like a little pricey however I don't like to shop for the "best" price. That's a waste of my time and gas. Plus I love the layout of Covington's and could spend the day there. Even the 3 rose bushes I bought from them over the years are still alive. This place is awesome! I have been a few times in the past few weeks to get help and buy plants and flowers to re-landscape my front and back yard. The first time I was in Joe Covington and Pat helped me out and basically designed my back yard. With the plants and flowers he picked out and told me where to place them, my back yard is looking amazing! After I finished the back yard I went back to get shrubs and flowers for the front yard and Brandi helped me this time. I gave her free reign to design my front and she did an incredible job! It looks amazing and she was a pleasure to work with. I would highly recommend Covington's as the selection is amazing and the customer service is second to none. read more

WOW! This is a true nursery! This place makes Home Depot and Lowes look like Honey Boo Boo's mom at a Miss USA Pageant. I am thinking about starting a succulent garden at my house and Covington's seem to have everything I need. They have a huge selection of not just plants but everything garden related. I found this place on Yelp. They are so friendly and helpful!! They even have persimmon trees!!! My mom wanted them for Valentine's Day, I was calling every where like a mad woman. This place had it in stock both varieties! Then I got side tracked and went crazy. I live in Denton and commute to Addison everyday, the last thing I want to do is drive.this place is so awesome I think I'll be back for dinosaur kale that will be arriving soon! Definitely worth a couple of dollars more and get great service, than go to a a retail chain and practically beg for help. read more

Possibly the best all around nursery in the north Texas area! Wonderful selections of vegetable bedding plants. We just bought 2 30 gal. Chinese pistachio trees and they look healthy and are a great size for the money. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Highly recommend! read more
