We love Covington's!! We've been to purchase a variation of our landscaping needs such as vegetables and herbs, fruit trees and vines, and today all of the items we needed for our new rose garden. It also serves as a one stop shop as they have all types of soil and products needed to support a healthy garden. (I remember all of my neighbors saying we could not grow a vegetable garden and now we supply all of our own produce with a little help from Covington's!) The employees are so helpful and knowledgeable. We had a particularly wonderful experience with a woman named Kaye today - if you're looking for roses she's your gal! This was my first trip to this nursery because it's quite a drive from me. The first thing I noticed was they were well staffed. There were young people who were mostly there to help you load things but there were also people knowledgeable about the plants. I was impressed with their variety and it is definitely a place for a gardener that is looking for something out of the ordinary. I found great perennials and annuals that I haven't tried before so I am excited to see how well they do in my garden. However, a lot of their unique offerings aren't suitable for North Texas. Twice I was interested in a plant and told I need to keep in a pot and bring inside during winter. Hard pass. Also, as far as regular staples, like vinca, marigolds or zinnia, you're better off at Lowe's. They are also more expensive--about $3 to $4 more for gallon sizes. Overall though, a good first experience. read more

This place is fantastic! My husband and I spent a Sunday just walking around the grounds looking at the beautiful landscape. Everyone that works there is so happy and helpful. Joe the owner is hilarious and knows his stuff. He is so personable and spent so much time with us made us feel super important. The best part was he didn't introduce himself as the owner just came to the conclusion after having a nice discussion with him. We were getting ideas for our yard and can't wait to go back and pick everything out. We have recommended so many people there since our visit. read more

This is by far the best nursery in the area. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly and if you ever have a question about a plant, they can answer it. We hired one of their landscape designers to draw up plans for behind our pool and it turned out awesome. One of their employees, Burton, is a plant genius. I have gone to him several times with questions about plants I have that are dying. Each time his recommendations worked and my garden is thriving. read more

Hands down, one of the best sources of trees this side of Dallas. This nursery is huge; I'd say most of the back lots are dedicated to landscape-size trees alone. Covington's is also your source for all your landscaping needs: mulch, soil, decorative stone, and designers...not to mention a diverse selection of annual and perennial plants and shrubs worth driving across town for. They have a few greenhouses advertising plants-for-sale, and the prices are usually competitive if you consider the quality of their plants. For extra discounts, invest in a membership. Healthy plants, terrific selection, superb service from a very friendly and helpful staff. Covington's is regularly endorsed on his radio show by local gardening celeb, Neil Sperry, whose products are available for sale at the nursery. read more

Just do not depend on these folks to tell you which plants are harmful to pets. Bought quite a few plants from them; one tree which the employee assured me the fruit was NOT harmful to animals. AFTER I planted it, found out the seeds in the fruit are toxic to dogs. I called to advise them and the words of the young man I spoke to (Brent I believe his name was) was "Well, the dog would have to eat a lot of them to make it sick". I told him that was not what every site about the tree said, he basically blew off my concerns. Even though I am a senior citizen, I can dig up the tree, but I would hate to have to deal with them on any major complaint. read more

Prices can be a little high, but you pay for things being available and in front of you now. I also bought a plant that had bugs on it and not being a plant guru I took it back and they were accepting and accommodating. Being that this place is so close to me is dangerous to my bank account. This nursery is much bigger than it appears from the main road! We came here looking for a couple shade trees and found a good selection. The staff was highly knowledgeable and helpful in our decision process. Front desk gave us several good planting tips and then made sure we fit everything in my 4runner. My first visit to Covington's Nursery exceeded my expectations. They have a large variety of inventory and generally I have hard time finding help at plant nursery's (especially when they're this large). However, this was not the case at Covington's. After sending out requests to several other nurseries and either getting no response, or being made to feel like a pleb for living in "Oklahoma" (e.g. "we START at $1000 for YOUR area, you might want to look for someone a bit closer"...really? I told you I just put in a new pool and you think I didn't budget for landscaping too? wow. that's the last time I look for landscapers in D Magazine, sorry I asked, I'll just take my money elsewhere), it was Covington's to the rescue! Linda was a joy to work with, and the end result is beautiful and exactly what we wanted. We planted in the fall of 2016, received excellent guidance on how to care for the plants and trees for their first year of growth, and all but one small plant (which is being replaced under warranty) has survived and is thriving as of spring 2017. For many years, my family and I have been coming to and purchasing from Covington's. In the past, we were greeted promptly and asked if help was needed. Today as I walked in, understandably so, the cashier was giving her attention to a customer who was talking for a long time. However as I circulated around looking at the plants, two other Covington employees did not greet me or ask if they could help me find something. In fact they looked at me and left once they finished talking to each other. A few moments later, the young man passed me but still did not offer any greeting. Although the customer was STILL talking on and on, the cashier did not say, "Excuse me" to the gentleman and "Hi, I will be right with you" to me. Although I did find the plant that I wanted, I will not be shopping at Covington's in the near future or telling others about this establishment. Hopefully, customer service training will occur so that the young individuals working at Covington's will know how to provide quality service. read more

We had new flower beds put in last Spring. Steve Malone designed and his crew installed. The design and installation were exactly what we wanted. People drive by and many times stop if we're out in the yard and tell us how beautiful our new addition is (they really do). So many people say "I just love to drive by your yard to look at your flowers. Steve was so easy to work with and we are thrilled with the colorful plants. Our front yard looks beautiful. I had the absolute pleasure of working with Kenny to plan out my flower beds. I arrived knowing nothing about gardening, and with no plan. Then I met Kenny (He approached me). He drove me around the entire place and explained everything I needed to know without even asking. You can tell he is passionate about his plants and it definitely shows with his eagerness to help. The facility is top notch. Well worth the money spent. Ken even gave me a number of pamphlets to read and learn how to care for my lawn and garden. You can tell when some people are just obligated to help... definitely not the case with Kenny. I will surely be a return customer. Actually thinking about going there today... We needed to do a major make-over of our front yard. Plants and bushes were 11 years old and were overgrown. We worked with the design expert, Brandy, who did a wonderful job recommending the plants, the pruning and the re-design of the front yard. She worked with my wife to help visualize what was needed to bring out the best in our home appearance. The crew, headed by Geraldo, did a wonderful job. They were respectful of the things that were not being disturbed, did NOT cut our cable (like so many crews do), were cheerful when we asked them to move a plant several inches after having just planted it and did beautiful concrete/masonry work on sidewalk borders. They didn't hurry to go home early either...they worked steadily and with purpose. We can tell the plants and bushes are top quality, as well. So...if you want your project professionally designed and planned, crews to show up on time and work hard throughout the day(s) and everything cleaned up without your having to point out things...Covington's is your company to call. Also, since their plants are guaranteed for a year, you can take comfort that anything that doesn't make it will be replaced. One more point that is also important. In the middle of the project, we realized we needed to remove more bushes and shrubs than originally planned. Brandy was so flexible and so was the install crew. They took it all in stride and never showed any impatience or aggravation. All-in-all, a very good team operation...which is so important to having a great outcome. And yes, reading other reviews, you will note Covington's is a tad bit pricey...but they deliver on quality. So if you want quality, professionalism, great outcomes and a project you can be proud of you will not let the price be your ultimate decision-making tool. read more

I have spent several thousand dollars here over the last few years, truly one of the last large nursery centers left...always a tremendous selection. However, a couple of words of warning. They usually have a lot of plants marked half price. Some of these we bought never grew very fast or did very well. Also, they often have plants not acclimated to the DFW area. We bought an Acacia tree that didn't survive winter as did the bottle brushes. They aren't unique in offering oleanders. We cut them back to the ground every year. read more
