So ran in to buy an assortment of donuts and some kolaches. Wife saw something on the internet about them and wanted me to bring some home. Went in about 1:30pm and picked out 8 donuts and 6 kolaches. Price was $35!! So they didn't have any of the donuts I liked. So choice what I could deal with. All the donuts were those light airy glazed donut type. 3 bits and they are gone, and you feel like you didn't eat anything. I wanted Apple fritters and chocolate dipped buttermilk donuts. So all the donuts were just plain tasting. Nothing fancy. I can get same quality from the grocery store. Their cinnamon rolls were a joke. Hardly any cinnamon inside. Just like eating a flattened bread roll with sugar on top. Actually they were some of the most boring cinnamon rolls I have ever had. The kolaches however were good. Upside- super soft and tasty donut! Downside- get here ASAP! We were driving thru en route to Jackson Hole. Stopped by at 12:30 pm and there was only one tray left of donuts. Marvelous donut shop in Rock Springs, Wyoming!! I always love patronizing donut shops especially when we are traveling around the country. We were referred by locals to try Cowboy Donuts. So we did. When I looked at their store window, I saw a surprising sight. There was a sign on their window showing they were featured on Food Network! How awesome is that? The shop looked wonderful inside. Super clean dining area and display cases. Beautifully decorated. The cases were packed with plenty of options that morning. We got a dozen donuts to share. The Boston Creme donut was very good. The Banana Iced donut was also delicious. The Ham & Cheese Kolache was savory goodness! Excellent Customer Service at Cowboy Donuts! I asked which donut did they make when they were featured on the Food Network show. They did not have any displayed, but they volunteered to make some for us!! How cool is that? She made the Turtle donut for us. It was super fresh and delish!! It is doubtful that I will find myself in this part of the country again. A good donut shop is hard to find in today's convenience store culture. All of those unique donut and pastry shops have been replaced by 7-11's and multi-national coffee chains. Just when you think you have no choice in breakfast pastries you find a place like Cowboy Donuts to prove there's still hope in this multi unit culture we live in. Cowboy Donuts is located right off the main Dewar Dr. drag in Rock Springs. When you walk inside its you're surrounded by the unmistakable donut shop smell. There's no centralized off site kitchens in this operation, all the donuts are made right there behind the counter. They open early at 5am and as you'd expect the fancier specialty donuts go fast so get there early. And while their specialty donuts are awesome, lets be honest the mark of a good donut shop is the original glazed donut. If they can't make a melt in your mouth Glazed its not worth venturing to the other types. Let me tell you, the Glazed Donut that i bought 3 of (a few mornings in a row) was amazing! It was done just right to where it melted in your mouth with every bite. It wasn't tough and overdone like so many gas station donuts are and the glaze was just right. If donuts aren't your thing then you're in luck, Cowboy Donuts had a great selection of Kolaches. There were small ones, large ones, cheesy ones and spicy ones. Basically if you like sausage wrapped in bread they have a kolache for you. I had them warm mine up in the microwave and they were just awesome. If you're getting donuts, just get one kolache even if you weren't planning to. You'll never leave with just one after that. Just want a a coffee? There was a good selection of coffees to choose from too. They were all self serve. Throw in the tables and the TV they had and you could just sit in there all morning reading the paper, eating and drinking coffee. The prices are very affordable too, so don't just get one, get a dozen! I know the next time I'm in Rock Springs I will swing by here in the morning for a great cup of coffee, donut and a kolache... or maybe a dozen of each! read more

There isn't exactly a ton of places to get your sweet tooth on in Rock Springs and virtually no other donut shops except for the grocery store where they are not made fresh, so that is a plus for the Cowboy Donut establishment. Prices are a little high for a dozen but lack of options makes it a pretty good deal. There isn't a huge selection but everyone will be able to find something they like here. Also offered are Kolaches. A nice twist and a good offering for breakfast but, like the bouncer in Roadhouse, "I thought they'd be bigger." The two flavors I ordered weren't great and were basic, pastry wrapped dogs. The spicy was good and spicy but this wasn't something that would bring me back in the door for breakfast. read more

I will not eat a donut from this place. I have tried at least 3-4 times and each time I have thrown them away. They are always stale and heavy cake-like. It taste nothing like a donut should. Cowboy Donuts has a very special place in my heart. I came here in the past after my backpacking trips in the Wind River Range, and most recently while driving across the country to move to Washington! If you get there early enough, they have a wonderfully huge selection of donuts. I'm personally a huge fan of the maple glazed. They always taste fresh and light and oh so good!! The shop is large and bright and clean. There is plenty of room to sit down and enjoy your meal. I've also never seen a line there, so it's quick and easy to come get your donuts and be on your way! It may sound odd, giving a donut shop a five-star rating. But my ratings are based on how a specific variety of food compares to other locations selling the same thing. On our recent vacation, we selected Cowboy Donuts as one of our stops after finding it online. This is as good a donut shop as you'll ever find. They make their donuts on site, instead of having them trucked in. Their bear claws are to die for and their kolaches are excellent. Their friendly staff spoke with us for several minutes and we went on our way with a full box of assorted. We were still warming them in the microwave and eating them when we got home to Texas.
