Poor quality, fence and gate don't even line up
    Meghan V.

Hi neighbors! I hope this post saves at least one person the headache and money it has cost my husband and I.... If I could give the owner of Cowboy Fencing negative stars, I would! He has harassed myself, my husband, and my neighbors who also had their fences done at the same time. All of our fences are poorly built; the boards aren't straight, they wobble, they are already warped, nails sticking out everywhere. And the boards aren't even the size that we paid for, the owner told us if we wanted him to fix his company's mistakes, we had to pay an additional $1500. When we with held final payment, the owner print his own lien paperwork. The owner is a bully who should be arrested for scamming people out of money. Save your money and find a different fencing company because Scott Peterson is a fraud who belongs in jail.

    An inappropriate worker

Not one to normally do this. But, it was by far the most ridiculous thing ever. This morning bringing my kids to school heading toward Ken Caryl on c470 this man in the cowboy fencing truck with a huge trailer of supplies forced myself and another car off the road as he was in the merge lane and wouldn't stop. When I honked at him he started making gestures with his hand like a gun, shooting the bird, and then sexual gestures with his hands. All while my 10 & 7 year old boys were in the car! I've tried calling the company to let them know. Unfortunately no answer and I have a feeling he may be the owner! I hope someone that knows him sees this and reminds him that the world is crazy enough with older gentlemen acting like CHILDREN... super classy! 10 out of 10 wouldn't recommend this company

To start, we originally signed a contract for 6" pickets which is what we wanted so that it would match an area of fence that was recently redone. It wasn't until the new pickets were being installed that we found out they had purchased 4" pickets. When I asked about it I was told they weren't able to get 4" pickets. It would have been nice to know ahead of time so we could look for another contractor who could do the 6" or we could wait until 6" became available again or at very least we could have a heads up that the project had changed. The first day of the project I walked the fence line with the foreman and placed yellow flags where my sprinkler heads were so that they wouldn't be covered up or damaged. Sure enough, I came home one day and found that the flags were bent over and the fence placed directly on top of my sprinkler heads preventing them from being able to pop up. Another issue is the gate. We paid $750 to have our driveway gate replaced to match the new fencing. The gate was done extremely poorly and is not square or even at any point. After only two days it sagged enough to the point where it drags on the driveway. There are also gaps in the middle of the gate where the gate sits out several inches on top and sits in several inches at the bottom. The handle on the gate was not installed level and is at an angle so the fence needs to be jammed shut or the gate needs to be lifted up in order to close the latch. We had a smaller gate installed in another area which has the same issues with the latch not being installed properly or squarely. At the end of one of the runs of fencing there is a 2'-3' area where no fencing was installed after it was removed. This large gap opens up into the neighbors yard and allows for dogs and people to easily fit through. At one point during the installation they switched from a 4" picket to a 3.5" picket without notifying anyone. The size difference is very noticeable. The crew had attached two sections of the neighbors fence to the utility pole rather than installing new posts. The neighbor informed them they could not do that, this was news to the crew. We had the same issue on our property after they had already been spoken to by the neighbor. When we told them the fence could not be installed on the utility pole, they acted as if this was the first time they had heard such a thing even though the neighbor had them fix their fence that same day. The crew just cut the nails, left them in both the fence and the pole, and never installed a post so we now have a section of fencing with no post at the end. There are many many more issues that we had with the installation, customer service and, overall quality of the project including, cigarette butts, saw blades and trash left on the property, my compressor being used for days not being put away or unplugged, our hoses laid across several lots to use on the neighboring fences, hoses not put away or disconnected, completely split boards used, nails pops and much much more.

From the start, the privacy fence was not built to the agreed-upon specifications. The HOA drawings which their salesman explicitly confirmed in writing (attached via email and said quoting exactly) called for horizontal beams to be mounted in-line. Instead, they face-nailed the beams, which altered the entire aesthetic and structural look of the fence. They claimed the HOA requires this which is not true. Additionally, the installation was plagued by issues: - Workmanship: The fence height was inconsistent, ranging from 71" to 79" on a promised 6' privacy build and 48" around on a promised 45" picket build. In several areas, there was a 3-4" gap between the bottom of the privacy fence and the ground. They faced the privacy pickets the wrong direction and blamed my wife for it. They mostly corrected the height after it was called out, but there are still gaps and inconsistencies. - Property Damage: Despite assurances that our landscaping would not be in the way, they broke our paver walkway and destroyed the edging between our garden and rock bed. We also found dried cement mix stuck/spilled across our landscape rocks. They mostly fixed this but it shouldn't have happened to begin with and the walkway is permanently damaged. - Gate & Staining: The metal gate installation was miscommunicated and poorly executed. The "custom" gate that we paid extra for is just an oddly angled gate that doesn't fit the opening or slope properly (and the previous standard gate was already mis-mounted). When they finally came to stain the fence, they did so just hours before a major rainstorm, despite the forecast, which was negligent. The most disappointing part was dealing with the VP of Operations, Jerry, and the owner, Shawn. After failing to deliver the product we contracted for, Jerry attempted to deflect blame onto my wife. When I pushed back on the invoice to address the fact that they had not corrected the beam alignment or secured an alternative HOA cap approval as discussed, management immediately resorted to threats of placing a lien on our home - all while holding our 50% deposit for staining work that hadn't even been performed yet. They over-promise, under-deliver, and resort to intimidation tactics rather than standing behind their work. Save yourself the headache and choose a contractor who actually values integrity.

Should have been a 5 star experience; it was a 2.5 star experience…read more On Day 2 of an estimated four day job, the owner of Colorado Fence and Deck showed up unnanounced to do a "walk through" while the work was ongoing. Shortly after, the crew left before all of the agreed upon work was completed. Crew lead returned later the same day to complete the work after I discussed my concerns with the owner. Within a couple of days, a deck floor board (actually two boards pieced together) near the deck entrances began to make noise when stepped on. The owner confirmed that he was aware that two boards were used when I expressed my concern. We set up another day for someone to come out and address the issue. The crew lead arrived on the agreed upon date and completed the replacement, as well as adjusted the fence gate repair that was already not working correctly. The request for the fence gate to be addressed was not communicated to the crew lead even though I included it in my appointment confirmation text. To date, the adjusted gate is currently working as expected. Unfortunately, the deck board that was replaced is also moving and is making noise, suggesting that the board is not secured as the other floor boards of the deck (which are not making noise). This problem is obvious by sound and feel, even when the dog walks on the deck board. As noted by another reviewer, some of the boards used on the deck probably should have been set aside for a more consistent quality deck floor. To date, the owner of Colorado Fence and Deck has not followed up to confirm that all of the repair work was completed satisfactorily. To be clear, the work has not been completed satisfactorily. 6.19.2026 Update Owner of CF&D contacted me after the Yelp review and agreed to send his crew to address the deck concern noted above. He also offered to improve communication, which was appreciated. The crew lead confirmed they made adjustments and tested the boards for the fix of the movement/noise. After three weeks of limited use, the repair continues to work, so I have updated the rating to three stars. Unfortunately, the gate issue has returned. I will be looking to see what other solutions I can implement to allow full time use of the much troubled gate.

If I could give zero stars I would. They cut my internet line leaving myself and my husband to not be able to work, as we work from home. When asked what they are going to do about it Ryan told us it's not his problem. We asked for some type of reimbursement for our neighbor as she is the one that hired them and he said absolutely not. We were interested in getting a quote for a new deck but not now. Not after this treatment. Ryan was extremely rude and unprofessional in this matter. Not the type of company I would personally ever do business with. Edit: Ryan, based on multiple Google reviews you have the same MO of telling people it's not your fault and not your problem if you or your crew messes up in these circumstances. The initial contact with your crew was nice and we understood accidents happen. Profanity was not used until your tone and reaction to the situation was it's not on you it's on US to get it fixed. Your crew also used profanity towards us. I also want to point the fact out that WE DID NOT HIRE YOU. WE DID NOT SIGN ANYTHING STATING YOU ARE NOT LIABLE FOR DAMAGES. You can state that you contacted the internet service but you and your crew told us we had to call and figure it out, which we did not you. Regarding reimbursement, you said it was outside your responsibility. It was YOUR equipment, YOUR crew that cut the line, YOUR responsibility. I did not hire you, but yet I'm liable for YOUR mistake, don't think so. You have extremely poor customer service, and you and your crew lack professionalism. You should own up to your company's mistake, take responsibility, and do what is right. Also, we had to pick up after your crew left boardS with screws and nails. AGAIN, we did not hire you. I'm glad your customer was happy but did you even look at the pictures because this is what you call a professional job? SECOND EDIT: This incident happened back on April 9, 2026. It is now May 29, 2026, and we STILL have exposed lines. I was contacted via text by what I assume is office personnel about having the lines buried back on April 22, 2026, stating that they put in a ticket to have them buried. I text back on May 21, 2026, asking if someone was coming out to get this resolved. I received no reply. I have personally contacted 811 three times, and they keep referring me back to the owner, Ryan, as he is the one who exposed them, to make sure they get reburied. According to Ryan, today, May 29, 2026, it is not his responsibility and there is nothing else they will do. You and your whole staff should be extremely ashamed of how you treat people and the poor quality work that you provide. Seeing how the conversation went today, May 29, 2026, with you on the phone, where you admitted that you use a power auger and you knew the lines were there, you just do not care what you ruin or how crappy your work comes out, just shows you have no business owning a company. Ryan, you continuously put in your comments that if there are any problems, reach out to you to be resolved. Well, that's a little hard to do when you block my number. You also blocked my wife's number. Your crew came back out to address concerns that my neighbor had with your work, as apparently it was not up to her standards, as you wrote up above that it was. There was one entire panel of fencing that was not properly cemented the first time. Your crew told my 86-year-old neighbor that she had to clean up their mess by hosing or sweeping it up. You also changed the property line by at least a foot. I am still unsure how my neighbor's pool lines will be buried back on her side, as they now lie in my yard, and the fence is up. Seems like if people complain about your work, you have an excuse like oh, well, sometimes lines get mis-marked and get cut. Well, maybe if you weren't using a power auger (which, according to 811, is not allowed within 18 inches of marked utility lines, and you definitely were within 18 inches), and actually hand-dug to find the lines, you wouldn't cut so many.

I requested quotes for four other companies in our area and decided to go with Juan and his company as they had the most competitive offer for what I wanted installed. During my initial inquiry, I knew that I was going to get great service from the onset of our conversation. I requested a quote using his website and within an hour he contacted me and arranged to accommodate my schedule and came out on a Sunday to do a site survey. By Sunday evening I had an estimate and three days later his team of professionals were installing my new fence. They were extremely professional, polite and completed over 200' of red cedar fencing within two days. Additionally, they did an extremely detailed walkthrough and cleaned up all the debris. I have dogs, this was a very nice touch and spoke volumes to the quality of their work and I didnt have to worry about screws or nails being left in my yard. I plan on having them come out next year to install a wood Pergolas. Seriously, if you're in the Aurora area and looking for a new fence, Juan is your man.

UPDATE: Juan threatened my personhood & property - to illegally trespass on our property & remove…read morethe new fence & gate, which would also result in theft, as he removed our old fence & gate. I've been advised to report him to Denver Police & my attorney. ---- Over-promise & Under-deliver, with a side of machismo - by the owner: Juan. ----- It all started innocently, when I called Kim, the receptionist, for an estimate in late Sep or early Oct. Instead of sending a person out for an estimate, she told me all she needed was photos of my existing fence & gate, and from there, she'd create an estimate. At no point did she ask me for measurements, and - given I'm not in the fencing, gate, construction, painting, or staining industry - I trusted her & her boss, Juan, as well as foreman Raul and Ruin to guide me through the process. This is, after all, why I hired the job out, and hired what I thought were professionals. Instead, on the initial scheduled day, it came to my attention that they only purchased enough materials for a 6-foot fence & 6-foot gate, when it was clear - from the photos - that the fence was higher than the gate (8-feet). Raul & I canceled that job, and we re-scheduled from Mon 10/9 to Tue 10/17. In parallel, I was told by Kim that she/they could easily match the existing stain on my fence/gate, and I need not worry about finding a color. This was also untrue. After the reschedule, Kim asked me to find photos of stains I liked. I started on Home Depot, and they had hundreds, if not thousands, of brands, types of stains (oil-based or water-based), and colors. I had no idea where to start. Given I was hiring professionals - or so I thought - in order to narrow it down, I went to JCQN's Yelp page, and found photos of their past/sample work that I liked. I took photos of the fences & gates I liked - including style & color, and changed my initial fence/gate design from vertical pickets to horizontal, to be more modern. And I decided on a natural redwood stain, and sent photos of both the style I desired, and color. Kim & I resolved the initial measurement misunderstanding, and she was diplomatic, professional, and apologetic, acknowledging she should've explained the material measurements on the estimate, and asked me to measure & verify. Yes! Again, the reason you hire professionals, is for them to guide you with their experience. If I wanted to DIY, I would've gone to Home Depot myself, rather than to Yelp. I did not have the time - or interest - to DIY, which is why I trusted JCQN's multiple reviews, and nearly 5-star status. WRONG! Just like my beau has consistently been telling me - don't trust the reviews. I learned this lesson the hard way, with this company. Tue 10/17 came & went, and Ruin & another gentleman installed a great looking fence & gate - this time, with the correct measurements. Though I wanted to have it stained & sealed on the same day, fearing this exact situation, Kim told me the owner, Juan, said that's not possible, and the wood needs to "sit" for "one week" then it moved to "one and a half weeks," which raised suspicion. (Home Depot's paint/stain & lumber departments told me this was BS last night, as I suspected. If the wood is cedar - as I was told it would be, not fabricated, it does not need to sit before staining.) According to Juan/Kim, I had to wait 1-week, then 1.5-weeks, then only a few days to stain/seal. We scheduled it for Fri 10/20. Fri 10/20 arrived, and Kim canceled, saying Juan was too busy. I pulled rank. Then Juan was magically going to show-up after all. He arrived, with the wrong stain - not the one Kim & I discussed, and I selected. Juan attempted to gaslight & blame me - for his mistake - rather than accepting accountability & owning it, and that story is too long for the character limits of Yelp, unfortunately. Juan blamed me - the female customer. Juan blamed Kim - the female employee, including blaming her age: "she's only 20," vs. his "20-years of experience at age 50". Juan blamed me: "I only want to make you happy," attempting to imply I wouldn't be happy with my initial redwood stain selection, and I should go with the cedar/natural he brought, thinking he could manipulate me, in order to fix his mistake. It was a huge mess. Juan then refused to reschedule the job (something about his personal affairs & if he doesn't repair his son's house by next Tuesday, he'll "go to jail"), and now I'm stuck with a beautiful raw, wood fence & gate - that will mold & become useless the minute it rains or snows. Kim negotiated with Juan to refund me the $1,800 I paid for the fence & gate, but neither one of them can refund me the $1,840 worth of my billable *TIME* (that I can never get back) that I wasted on this nightmare. Luckily, I now have 1 other contractor scheduled for Monday, and 3 on stand-by, should that fall through, given the weather is getting colder, which is not ideal for staining.
