We were without Internet for a week, give or take a couple random hours. Called Cox to see if Internet was down. It was not. Reset the router. Turned our phones off and on. Turned our computers off and on. Went to Cox store for a new router. Nada. Finally got Cox to send out a technician. He said the problem was in our walls. We need our walls so getting rid of them was not an option. (Note: we have lived here 17 years. This is the first time ever our walls have been a problem). After an hour or so of tech trying to figure things out we made an appointment for him to come back over the weekend. Because frankly we were out of ideas. I don't know how many degrees it takes to understand this stuff but apparently it's more than 2. Meanwhile my husband was starting to freak out. He really needs Internet service for his job when he's taking call from home so not having reliable internet is not an option. (I'm a writer and need it too but people's lives aren't affected if I write bad prose). Husband calls Cox, says this no internet thing is not acceptable, tech didn't seem to have any good ideas and he wants to know what their plan is to fix it. Cox escalates the issue, promises they will have their most experienced tech come out the next day to get things taken care of. Husband shuffles around some things at work and makes plans to be here when the tech shows up hoping that can make a difference. Which it probably wouldn't but like I said we were out of ideas. With hopeful hearts we got up the next day looking forward to getting our Internet back. Then husband called. Apparently the tech that had come to our home called my husband wanting to know why a different tech was being sent out to our house. Husband said that's what Cox suggested. Dude was really pissed, said that other tech had no more experience than he had. A few minutes later husband got an automated phone call from Cox. Appointment was cancelled and rescheduled for the following morning. Nobody checked with us to find out if either of us would even be here. And there was nobody to call to figure out what was going on. And that is how we ended up getting AT&T Fiber less than 24 hours later. Start to finish they were professional and polite. There was no trauma. There were no wall issues. AT&T got everything done in record time. The difference between the two companies was absolutely astounding. I have no idea how Cox even stays in business. Our experience was beyond horrific. If you are looking to get internet service I would highly recommend you steer clear of Cox. No! It was new to high springs for internet and it worked 4 days of the 3 weeks I had it. It took 3-5 days to get them back out here to fix it both times it was down. When it was on my devices kept losing connection. Only reason I give it 2 stars instead of 1 is because it was fast when on. Also they told me on the phone that no gear return was needed because I had fiber but then they billed me over $300. Don't get their service until they work out all the bugs!! Side note you don't talk to humans when you call for problems. All automated. read more

Yesterday I stopped by to drop off some equipment. Due to the bad reviews, I was anticipating the worst but was pleasantly surprised by how efficient the process went. There were three Cox representatives waiting to help customers. There were only two of us in the store. That was an amazing scenario in itself. I was prepared with my account number, email, and phone number. The nice representative scanned the device and the information was in the system. I called 2 weeks before my promotions ended, (for TV and Internet service) they quoted me a contour and internet price of $153-, they told me I should wait another week for better rates because I still had my promotions for 1 more week. I waited another week, then they wanted $170- for the same package. On the 2nd week after promotions ended they now want $177- dollars a month... What a scam this company is... Well, my cable has been out for over a week now I called and I get the credit which is fine but I just want the service restored or some information about why I do have an outage? I call and I get somebody who's not even course in Gainesville they look it up. Ask for your number and they just say nothing. There's an outage can't send a technician because there's an outage. It has been a week now I had friends who had their Cox cable taken out by the hurricane. They already have it back might have been gone since last Thursday and still nothing ask why it's out nothing can't get the service. Everyone just reads off a little script the same thing over and over again, and for what we pay for cable, I would think they could fix it in a week. read more

Screwed me for equipment the tech brought to my house and did not install. When I requested an investigation, despite the fact that there was only one cable line into my house and I had only one remote for my single TV, they charged me $125 for the 2nd tv cable box. Dexter renewed my faith in getting some helpful information without jacking up my bill! I'm thinking he deserves a gold star at minimum! Update 08 JUNE 16: Marvin helped me today and provided a similar commitment to customer service excellence as Dexter and Kaylen did on two prior visits. The young woman, Ashley, who greeted me at the door was very cheerful and accommodating to evryone regardless of how badly some people treat facing personel, especially in an "evil corporate" environment. Which brings me to why I can't give those other 2 stars to Cox Communications. They are somewhat evil, greedy, & generally ambivalent about their customers, particularly when it comes to service & value. There's a lot of moving parts involved with their business model, everything from all the different profit centers (internally, business and residential), all the different vendors they pay plus a couple hundred other smoke & mirror items that make it hard to analyze, PLUS ADD in that the government is involved. Government regulations just add extra expense just for compliance, but unfortunately its a necessary evil. The new "mini-box" for example is free for two years, I believe the purpose is a complaint driven regulation. Without it you won't get HDTV signal on your new flat panel, and now the signal is encrypted adding insult to injury. I'm sure the hackers are all over that and will likely create new regulations for & laws that will make felonies for attempting to decode their signal. The consumer just needs more competition n so the market can adjust prices rather than monopolized utilities like this. It's starting to get better with some solutions, but the availability isn't even close to being adequate. So to sum it up, the employees that I've dealt with have been better than awesome and the only thing standing between Cox and a 5 star rating is Cox corporate-not the folks who interact with the customers. Updated update 04APR17: I really don't like to leave negative reviews or comments, but as a Yelper I have a duty to call ugly ugly when it rears its ugly head (especially when it can't remove it from its own backside & they seem remarkably similar in every way). Corporate has ruined everything that the staff at this office have done trying to retain my business. I have way too much time invested in trying to foolishly remain a loyal 30ish year customer. I feel as foolish as I did in Jr High being dumped for the first time- everyone seemed to know what was going on before I could even buy a clue. My wife and I were actually looking forward to great pleasure in returning their equipment and saying adiós, but it didn't go as well as we thought. Unfortunately, the person who "helped" us was new and there were a few other newbies too. He didn't even bother to ask why we were going elsewhere (or even nowhere would be preferable) which my lovely wife had to coax the question out of the guy. We all know why, nobody gives a horse squeeze! That thought "process" starts at the highest level and gains mass and kinetic energy sometimes by orders of magnitude on its way downhill. We've all worked with fellow people who have such horrible attitudes that someone has to cut them loose before it spreads out to everyone, well this kind of corporate carcinogen is much worse IMHO. It never ceases to amaze me how badly broken a company can be and still thrive. A very good reason for doing business with the mom and pop stores wherever it's possible. The good news is that the ISP market is more competitive and there's some hungry other corps ready to take you for their version of a "ride". The straw that broke the camel's back was being lied to repeatedly in a couple weeks time. Hasta la vista, Cox Communications (ha!) Worst customer service I've ever had. I was supposed to have new service set up at 10:30am today the tech tapped the cable into the neighbors cable which I'm sure is illegal causing my new neighbor to not have internet or tv. It's been a long day of sitting on the phone hoping to finally get a human representative once I finally spoke with someone and explained the severity of the situation I was told by a Cox customer service rep I'd have the same technician at my home in 30 minutes to an hour I called back 3 times to insure I had an technician come back out and was assured he was coming and he would give a call before he came. Mind you this was at 2:30pm I waited at my home until 6 o'clock never seen or heard from anyone from Cox and I'm furious anxiety ridden and just all around OVER the HORRIBLE customer service today. read more

Awful schedule commitments. Have zero respect for people's time or schedule. Been paying for internet for a week with a total of 6 hours of actual internet connection. Update: My review rating hasn't changed. So, I paid for a self-installation ($20). They shipped me a faulty modem. A guy had to come out once...it worked for those 6 hours. I had to have another guy come out, and he ended up switching out my modem b/c it was a faulty modem. The rep on the phone said I would not be charged additional for the tech visit; however, I see on my bill that I was charged for a professional installation on top of my $20 (additional $50). Then, I call back and the current rep says the previous rep entered it in as a professional installation when she schedule. read more

Long waits, but the cashiers (?) are friendly & helpful. I prefer cable over satellite because the signal doesn't go out as often. I would like channels to be a la carte, but I don't anticipate that changing soon. (I just hate paying for an entire TIER just because I like ONE channel in the line-up)! I have had to call to have my email password reset multiple time over the last few week it last a day, maybe if I'm lucky, I have to reset my phone, table and PC. No information on web site just a come on to upgrade to more expensive services. Only cable ISP in town so we are screwed! I was charged $209 over a year after my cancellation and never received an explanation for why there were two different accounts under my phone number and address, nor for why I was charged for a month after I had already cancelled my service. Well, here is my story, I had COX for internet and tv for well over 15 years, it kept going up, up, up as well as charges for cable boxes and internet modems with some more channels, but limited HDTV premium ones. AT&T Uverse came to my door and offered me a cable, internet and phone package I couldn't refuse. It was all those three things for less than I was paying for JUST internet and cable with Cox. That said it was a 2 year contract, but It is worth it. Not only did I get more channels, but almost all of the premiums, including sports, HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, Stars, etc. HDTV ones to boot as well as free OnDemand service for less than I paid for just internet and cable on COX. Plus, I now have two wired tuners as well as a wireless for the same amount of money. I will see how that changes after the two years are up, but I'm saving $960 a year. That said, yes the internet speed is slower, but I haven't noticed. Netflix and Amazon still stream movies just like on Cox. I guess you may notice If you are I gamer, but I'm not. 3 months into using AT&T Uverse, I am very happy, The interface is a million miles better than Cox, especially recording series and shows, more like Tivo (which doesn't work with Uverse) but It works better than Cox. I can watch shows I have recorded on my iPad without any extra costs or equipment. It is internet connected and can use apps like for the weather channel (who looks at that anyway?) The funny thing is when I called to cancel the service rep. asked why I hadn't called to ask for a lower rate. Really? And now I'm still in service hell with them for extra charges. I returned the equipment and was supposed to get a refund from when I canceled, but still got a bill for $84. The irony is I'm still getting mailers from COX saying we want you back. Get your shit together COX, better customer service, more options, you've got competition now. read more

Cox Cable has the WORST customer service!!! Every time I'm on the phone with them the rep is super unfriendly and doesn't even try to be helpful!!!! They don't even try to keep you with Cox. He was more than happy to just cancel my service instead of throwing offers at me to keep my $60/month. It does add up you know! Idiots! read more
