I made a yelp account just to write a review for this place. I knew it would be bad when the salsa came out. It Was obviously prepackaged just like the rest of the meal. We ordered queso fundido which tasted like bagged cheese with hamburger meat. My boyfriend ordered the coyote combo and I got the red dust burrito. It came covered in more fake cheese. I stomached maybe 3 bites. We only came here from a co-workers suggestion after we tried to go to valle of mexico. We immediately felt sick after eating. I can honestly say it was the worst food ive had at a sit down restaurant. I can't understand why anyone raves about this place it was taco bell on a plate. Our server was fantastic though. This place has gone downhill. Used to be one of my favorite places. No free chips and salsa anymore. They got rid of their fountain lemonade to make watery homemade lemonade and charge $5 for it. The margs used to be so good and are now absolutely awful . They also "renovated" their bar which cut the bar size in half. This was probably the worst service I've ever gotten. The server first told my boyfriend that I "must have his ball at home" because his friends got beers and he chose to get a water. She then was incredibly rude to everyone at the table and kept us waiting 30 minutes after putting a drink order in... 3 different times. Our food took a while to come out and was pretty bland. Then when we asked for the check we were left waiting for another 25 minutes until we walked up to the host stand and waited for her to cash us out. We used the call ahead yesterday evening and was told around 45 minutes. When we arrived we were told it would be at least an hour longer. It was very busy and not many places to wait. We did see a few empty tables( the hostess' really struggled to keep it efficient).We rolled the dice and stayed near the bar. In around 45 minutes they did seat our party(4). I was first introduced to Coyote Café during the Hamburger Fest where they were offering their nachos. I remember how delicious and fresh those nachos were... I savored every single bite. I finally was able to convince my husband to take me to the restaurant during restaurant week. The setup is amazing, I had no idea how big this restaurant was and the full bar was an awesome addition since you don't often see that at Mexican restaurants. The menu was average but the prices seemed really high! Our waitress seemed hungover, or maybe just new? She didn't know the menu, couldn't offer any suggestions, and she pretended to be listening to us as we ordered but then asked us to repeat ourselves about 3 times. Since it was restaurant week, We ordered the 2 for $30.17 meal which included a chicken quesadilla, 4 street tacos, and 2 sides. Still seemed like a lot of money for the amount of food we got, but the quesadilla was delicious! The street tacos were blah, like...I almost didn't eat it blah. They use corn tortillas, which I don't like. But I wouldn't have known that because it wasn't on the menu. My husband wasn't impressed either. For the sides we both got the Mexican rice which was good and flavorful, I also got the re-fried beans which were so very dry, and my husband got the Mexican potatoes which were excellent. They had a wonderful selection of drinks, the margarita was average, but they also had a black raspberry mule which was awesome and creative! Overall, the experience was not one that would get me back into the restaurant. Especially when El Canelo is in the area for a cheaper price and significantly more delicious food. (P.S. Just in case you read any of these other reviews, don't believe the negative ones! I can't get enough Coyote Café! I bring friends/family from out of town and we always enjoy ourselves! Their food is top notch and their wait-staff are unusually knowledgeable! If you like pork, try their carnita in just about anything! (Very good in their nacho appetizer!). And, for those who like margaritas or the like, try all of them! Just maybe not all in the same visit! I go here about once a month, typically, all times of the day and night. Enjoy, my friends! I used to go to this restaurant all the time when lived in Hamburg- I don't remember it being as bad as it is now. The past few times we have visited over the past year, we've had bad experiences. Environment: Perhaps they want this place to be a party bar now, but since the expansion, the rest of the restaurant has gone down hill. On our recent visit, we were seated at a table with chips underneath it (like dropped from the party before us or the night before). When we looked around, there was dust forming in corners, the banners hanging were coming apart at the seems, signs were taped to the walls with tape hanging off the top, and we had to wait quite a while for anyone to come to the reception counter to seat us. (What does this say about the meal we were about to eat...) Food: First, the waitress brought out chips and salsa. The salsa was definitely Grade D canned salsa (with way too much added sugar). The chips were decent but definitely not homemade. My husband ordered a steak taco and I ordered a shrimp fajita salad. The salad came piled high on a plate (some people might like this, but this screams "poor ingredients" to me. The shrimp were tiny salad shrimp- simply boiled, not really sauteed or grilled. The veggies were fine. The iceberg lettuce came in giant chunks that I had to cut. And I requested no cheese, but they piled it on anyway (which the waitress noticed and apologized for). They didn't have a whole lot of healthy dressings on the menu, so I simply ordered oil (and they gave me vegetable oil) on the side and opted to flavor it myself. My husband's meal wasn't as bad- a giant heap of refried beans, a taco that looked more like a quesadilla and the salad he got was at least chopped to add to the taco. Rationale: Now, I live in Buffalo, so perhaps we are spoiled with the delicious Mexican restaurants that are opening all over: Cantina Loco, Don Tequila, Agave and Lloyds. Coyote Cafe is on par with El Palenque- piled high, Grade D food straight out of the can. If you like that kind of stuff, you might like this place. I prefer fresh, homemade salsa, chips and food and owners who are more committed to a culinary experience. Recommendation: If you are in Hamburg, just drive the extra mile and go to La Tolteca, or anywhere but here. read more

Was only able to get one drink while we waited bc the bartenders were busy talking to friends. Stopped in for lunch during the week. A friendly employee stated I could sit anywhere so I picked the front window to people watch while I eat. This place is pretty small in the village which is very easy to miss while driving through. I ordered something with shredded chicken in it and queo on top with a side of the Mexican rice. The entire meal was great and came to me very quickly during the lunch rush. I really liked the home made salsa and chips. When I want Mexican in the Southtowns I am going here for sure. read more

Been here several times. As for the quantity and quality of the food, it is very good. Service is always good. Sometimes there is a wait to be seated. Prices are reasonable. The jalapenos poppers here are delicious. Mmm. I could live off of them for weeks, if I had to. The chips used to be homemade onsite, but I'm not quite sure that they still do this. They may have run out when I was there. The homemade chips are 100% more delicious, as measured by scientists. They have a bar open in the back now and the drinks are ok. The margaritas are a little saccarine for my tastebuds. The bathrooms are in the way back and are a little crowded, but servicable. There is a back entrance for those on wheels. read more

Coyote Cafe has some of the best Mexican food around with huge portions. The average plate is around 10-12 bucks I believe, but it will last you at least another meal. It's also a good time to go to the bar for a margarita (or a few) during a sabres game. Although sometimes the bar is packed and sometimes it's dead, it's always a good time either way. You will meet the hostess, Dah, and you will love her. She will insert some comment about you spanking her and then laugh this infectious laugh that can be heard all around. She is sweet and funny. Wow. What a change for the worse. I used to love Coyote Cafe. Now, a much more limited menu, poor service, and large quantities of sub- par food rule the day. We waited at the bar for the table for two which never materialized. My boyfriend went to inquire and was told by the hostess that she couldn't find us. Trust me, she never set foot in the bar, where we told her we would be. We were finally seated to a placemat-sized menu with none of my favorites remaining. My boyfriend's beloved black bean soup was watery and tasteless. My flautas were burned at the ends, dry, and tasteless. Went back a couple of weeks ago for dinner with the wife. Thought I would give it one more try. Glad I did. Service and food seems to have returned to the high quality I remember. My fajitas were hot, perfectly seasoned and very tasty. Tortillas were fresh as were the fixings that went along with it. The service was much better too. Although the wait was long, the server was friendly, seemed to care about our requests and checked in regularly. Rarely do I go back to a place that I give a poor review to, but I have historically liked the coyote cafe and thought it deserved another shot. Stopped in with a friend for a late dinner and found the Coyote Cafe hopping--the bar was full and live music was playing on the the back patio. We opted to sit in the front so we could chat, and even with the crowd and music, it was still quiet enough to talk easily. Our server was friendly and helpful, although clearly a little bit frenzied; she seemed to be the only one serving the whole room (and was trying to tackle some end-of-night cleanup as well). We loved our "Sunset Margaritas," which were the special of the day. When you ordered one for $6.95, you got an appetizer half off--good deal. We opted for a platter of dips--queso, guac, pineapple salsa, and a few others--for $8 ($4 with discount) and a veggie quesadilla for $10 ($5 with discount) made on corn tortillas to suit my gluten-free friend's requirement. The food was fine--not outstanding, but not exceptional. Everything was delivered hot and quickly. This is a great place to get Mexican. I go there all the time, and I'm a picky, fussy guy, and not particularly into Mexican food, so you know it's got to be good. If you like Mexican food, and you're in Hamburg, stop by this place, seriously, I can't imagine that you'd be disappointed. There's parking in the back or on the street in front. If you've got someone in a wheelchair, park in back. You can get to the back parking lot by going on the side street that's accessible from off of the roundabout at the end of Main Street. This was probably some of the best Mexican food I've had in a long while. For our apps we had the nachos and BBQ chicken quesadillas. Both phenomenal but if I had to pick one the quesadillas we're on point. For our main meals we had the chicken enchiladas topped with queso blanco, chorizo enchiladas topped with enchilada red sauce, and juan chorizo burrito. Our sides were the Mexican potatoes and Spanish rice. The portions were generous and fairly priced. The queso was probably the best I've ever had and so was the chorizo and chicken. I'm love some good Mexican food and Coyote Cafe delivers. I had my first experience here while I was working and we just had take out but after that I was hooked. I've tried just about everything on the menu and haven't had any bad food from there yet, i will keep trying and let you know if i find anything. Eating in is an experience on its own, great atmosphere, friendly staff, and very attentive servers. Its a great place to take the whole family and I have two kids under the age of five so I am leery about trying out new restaurants as a family but it is loud enough that if the kids are making a bit of a raucous it isn't a big deal. I would give 0 stars if I could. This was honestly one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. Not only was there over an hour wait, which is understandable for a Saturday, but they neglected to tell us BEFORE WE WAITED THAT LONG, that they were out of frozen margaritas and out of CHEESE. How can you be out of cheese at a Mexican restaurant? They couldn't have went out and bought some? I went out to eat tonight literally just for a frozen margarita and quesadilla and waited over an hour without knowing I couldn't have either. THEN, I ordered a burrito, and received an enchilada. My friends ordered chicken, and received pulled pork. They're lucky we didn't have any allergies. We were very clearly displeased but the waitress never returned to ask how things were and then charged us for EXTRA things on the receipt instead of giving any kind of compensation for everything they were out of. Absolutely the best and most original stuffed peppers you will ever have! Banana peppers stuffed with cream cheese and then battered and fried! Topped with jalapenos and sour cream for an absolutely delicious party for your taste buds. Always busy so plan to go a little before you're hungry and have a drink at their full bar. Huge servings, so I always have lunch the next day. Great atmosphere. Great customer service - their servers are always friendly with a smile on their face. They are involved in the community as well. Overall a great place to go. The chorizo was a little too salty the last time I was there (so salty I couldn't eat it which was sad, the sides were delicious - great refried beans and rice) otherwise it would have received 5 stars. Update February 2016 - they are back with a new improved menu and the chorizo was perfect! Great new menu, great customer service, ordered 2 appetizers and 3 entrees and everything was perfect from start to finish. I highly recommend Coyote Cafe! Honestly I am in a lost for words. Placed a $80 order at 5 pm, pick up time was 6:30. Walked in 20 after 6 and finally walked out with my order at 7:30. The guy had no help and no clue how long people were waiting. After standing there for 30 mins, I asked the guy and received the same excuse he was giving everybody. Blamed it on the damn kitchen. I made him go look and he finally realized it was missing. He even had to go print it off because they didn't have it anywhere. Just frustrated at this whole process. They didn't even offer anything for the situation, and when I asked all the girl said was I'm sorry. Lack of customer service and should at least have an adult working take-out. We have been making the rounds of the Hamburg Village restaurants during the pandemic . We ordered a taco package to serve 4-6. We pulled up curbside and called the number, gave our name and type of car. Within a minute or two, a staff member appeared with a neatly packed box and placed it in our car. The first few visits we had at this restaurant went off without a hitch, BUT, our last few times we have gone the service has been atrocious. The waitresses don't know the regular menu let alone the specials and multiple times they have completely forgotten our drinks or who ordered what and some are just genuinely unpleasant. We had an horrible experience. We had visitors from out of town and thought we would have some food and drinks on the patio. Well you can only order off the food truck so we comprised to sit inside. They tried to sit us at bar top with a 2 year old and when I asked to be seated somewhere else they said they didn't have any other tables when the restaurant inside and out was empty. When I asked to speak to manager she was unprofessional and unapologetic and said that they will get there business else where when I said I was leaving.
