This review is for the Coyote Flaco in Poughkeepsie, NY. However, since this is a franchise, I assume most of my criticisms are relevant to all of the locations. First of all, "Coyote Flaco" means "Skinny Coyote". It is aptly named because with their portion size, you won't be gaining any weight. I ordered a Quesadilla Linda from the Entree portion of the menu. According to the menu, in addition to your choice of meat, the two flour tortillas are supposed to be stuffed with cheese, baby cactus, and mushrooms. The one I received had steak and gristle and cheese. NO BABY CACTUS. NO MUSHROOMS. It also came with a side salad. The order was take-out and they forgot to include the dressing for my salad. When I returned to request the dressing, they acted as though I was trying to rob them, but relinquished a package of Kraft Italian Dressing. Really? Who argues over dressing? Is it worth losing a customer over? To call this an entree is very imaginative. To include gristle in an 8.50 quesadilla adds insult to injury. Don't order it if you're actually hungry. My friend ordered the Burrito Entree with ground beef. What we were given was NOT a burrito. It was an ENCHILADA. When I informed the staff that we'd been given the wrong menu item, the staff replied that we had been given a burrito. I saw someone else make the same complaint, so this franchise apparently doesn't know the difference between enchiladas and burritos. In summary, the menu misrepresents what is ultimately served and when you express dissatisfaction, the staff is argumentative. The portions are small. They nickel and dime you if you want any more condiments. Everything is over-priced. Neither authenticity nor value is found here. read more

Food was very very good. Service not so much. Had to flag down staff for refill on the very small bowl of tortilla chips had to flag down staff for refill on drinks. This is when it wasn't that busy. Had to flag down staff for the check. They only came by the table once two minutes after they brought the food. Will try again just for the food and hope the service will be better. read more

Love the food. It's authentic and delicious. The restaurant is not fancy on the outside or inside, but the food is very good and presentation is nice. We have eaten here many times over the past few years. Service is good. Friendly staff. Sometimes we needed to wait a bit for our server to come back to our table, but that was because it was busy. Don't forget, good food takes time to prepare! In the summer you can sit outside and eat. read more

Service is very poor. Only one other table in the restaurant was full and we still had to go up to the bar for a drink. And the margaritas used to be the best in town, now they aren't good at all. I don't think they even put tequila in them today. Just a lot of mix. Gross. Save your money and don't bother going here. Waste of time and money if you want good drinks and food read more

Good takes FOREVER! I have been there when it was super busy and when it was me and one person at the bar, no matter how many people there are it always takes so long for any food to come out! Set aside at least an hour and a half of not more for a super simple meal that you could make at home in less than 10 mins. The only really good thing is their homemade salsa. Also in the winter it is always FREEZING cold in there, and I am ALWAYS hot so this was strange for me to be cold. read more

I just had a wonderful lunch there. I had no idea what to expect from this restaurant I had been passing while in Stanfordville. What a surprise to discover that far from being a "taco joint", Coyote Cafe was a true dining experience with fine cuisine. I had salmon and shrimp sautéed with sweet onions kept warm over a flame at my table. It was what another group was having, and I jumped on their recommendation. Smart move! My dessert was exceptional: a deep-fried enchilada enclosing a delicious apple filling plus two small scoops of ice cream. I've been twice and came away disappointed each time. The service was fast and pleasant, but the food was poor. The pork was bland, the salsa given with chips was watery and tasted off, and the enchiladas were dull. Prices aren't high, but with one drink and a shared appetizer you can easily pay $25-$30 per person plus tax and tip. read more

Parents live down the street and eat here every time I visit-ingredients are always fresh, service is excellent and the food is delicious. Whoever wrote the review saying that the food is inauthentic is ignorant... There are many styles of cooking from Mexico and this is good food. Great cheap lunch combos as well. read more

Came here with my wife for dinner around 5:30 pm on a Thursday. Place was clean, trendy with good Mexican flair and color. Had a small bar that could fit approx. 20 people around it. I had heard that they made good food here so I wanted to give it a shot because Mexican is one of my favorite foods. The chips and salsa they served were very good, a bit oily but tasty and the salsa was homemade and fresh tasting. they gave us three different styles to taste from mild to hot. The service was definitely a bit slow considering when we arrived the dining room wasn't close to full with only three other families present. Our waitress was friendly but we had been visited by three staff members so it was confusing as to who our waiter actually was. The young man who took our order wasn't familiar with the food items. We asked him what Mole was and he was unable to provide an adequate answer. We were not impressed that the staff at a Mexican food restaurant couldn't explain a menu item. Never-the-less, we placed our order and waited. We enjoyed a couple of cold beers that they serve in iced glasses which was a nice touch. When our food arrived, it was very hot and smelled delicious. We were both impressed with the freshness of the ingredients and the overall taste of the food. It was authentic in the recipe and ingredients and they served decent portions. We would good back and we are hopeful that the staff there can get it together. I think this place would be a 5 star pick if they can bring the staff together to meet the quality of the food. read more

Ahh... in an area with one over priced Mexican place in Hudson, and a very average Tex-Mex in Chatham, this place is pretty fun. It feels pretty authentic to me. Maybe I'm just always hungry for Mexican food when I go, but 3 times I've been, and 3 times I loved it! read more

I would give this place 3.5 stars if I could. The food is decent - it's also very different from other Mexican restaurants. The burritos are a little jarring - almost like a combination of burrito and panini - but they're still good. Overall, I like the variety and unique preparation of the dishes. This place is more of a bargain for lunch - personally I think it's a tad too expensive for dinner, given what seem to be the same lunch-size portions but at a higher price. Even though SOME of the food at Mexican Radio might be more authentic, I just can't make the leap to pay Mexican Radio's prices when chips aren't even included. This place also never seems to be crowded at lunch, which is a plus if you don't want the hassles of parking or waiting. read more

My husband and I have just enjoyed our second take-out in a week after an absence of a few months. We almost didn't because of the three horrible reviews we saw when we looked up the menu. I was afraid things had gone down hill. Wrong! I won't claim the food was authentic because I ordered the salmon. But who cares about authentic? The guacomole was great, the salmon (a bit salty for me but I have that problem with most restaurants) was served over a bed of delicious vegetables. The black beans were very good and the rice was ok. The salsa that comes with chips is so good! Not spicy so some might be disappointed but it is so fresh. My husband loved his meal too. Just ate here tonight with my husband for our anniversary dinner, after reading some negative reviews for mexican radio we came here. Wish we came sooner! We only live 5 mins away and can't believe we haven't been here before. The food was excellent, Portions are not huge, but they also give complimentary chips and salsa so I still had a full container to take home! The staff was extremely nice, sometimes you go out to restaurants and it almost feels as though your a bother to the staff, like they wish you weren't there at all. (have had this experience at hudson applebees..) The staff here was so nice and friendly. We had a great time and will definately be back soon! OH yeah and they also have outdoor dining! They only have about 4 big tables outside though so unfortunately we didn't get one, but hopefully next time! The inside is nice and clean and we had a great little private table in the back so it was perfect for our anniversary! read more
