The first cooking class was Latin steak night where we made steak with chimichurri and gelato for dessert. The second cooking class was crabcake with steak and garlic aïoli with oven roasted asparagus and chocolate lava cake. It was such a delicious meal. And she is a fantastic instructor. I've signed up for my third class and can hardly wait. As for the store itself, the staff are really nice. I've purchased a number of items here. If you take a cooking class you also get 10% off in the store which I took advantage of. They have a beautiful selection of just about everything you would ever need for your kitchen and serving goods. What's not to like about that?

We were welcomed by the staff and invited to shop around while they prepared the kitchen area for us. We walked around in the shop area that offered many different cooking essentials and nice luxurious items too. They had flavored water for all who shopped and looked to be an espresso machine that was an option for us to try, but wasn't working at the time. We started the class and Chef Gabbi was a delight. She took to time to explain everything to us and even some great tips we can try for other dishes. She was quite amazing and kind. When we were done cooking we all had to stand to eat, but the food we all had prepared was amazing. I highly recommend getting your friend together and taking a class

Sprouting Chefs is new to the Ann Arbor area, and offers hands-on cooking classes for children and teens ages 8-16. Reasonably priced at $45 a session and conveniently located in the spacious kitchen of the Westminster Presbyterian Church on Scio Church Road, Sprouting Chefs offers attendees the chance to make new and theme based meals in a safe, fun and supportive environment. Throughout the 2 1/2 hour class, Lilian and an assistant provided supervision and instruction to the students, as they moved through all of the steps to make three age appropriate, yet creative menu items. In the class my daughter attended, they made a cucumber salad, homemade Southern-style macaroni and cheese, and mixed berry shortcakes with lemon curd. Completely at ease with the children, Lilian infused the class with instruction on technique, such as how to properly hold a knife; kitchen rules, such as to always say "behind" when you are coming behind someone with boiling water or a hot pan; and nutrition information, such as information on the differences between organic, locally grown and conventional produce. At the end of the class, which included a generous tasting of all the dishes, my daughter and her friends left with a take home bag of the dishes they had prepared and a recipe booklet so that they could make the recipes at home with their families. The girls had a wonderful time and I would highly recommend the class to other children and teens who enjoy and want to learn more about cooking.
