Purchased a boat in march and took it to canyon lake only to find it had major issues. Called numerous shops in the valley which were all booked through June. Guy seemed like he knew what he was doing. But as soon as I got to his repair shop it was like he became a used car salesman. If I decided not to move forward on recommended repairs and to stick with what I brought it in for, he acted like he didn't want to work on my boat. I left it there anyway for him to fix, but he called me before I got 15 minutes away telling me nothing needed changing, just an adjustment and it is good. Was referred to CP Marine because my usual place was out of business. Was having steering problems which werre extensive and unusal. Bret Campbell diagnosed it and fixed it all like new. Plus he determined that I was over propped so got me straightened out there. And he found so much wrong with my engine and outdrive that it's like having a new boat. In addition he put a new strap on the front of my trailer and fixed a wheel bearing that was about to go south on me for no extra charge. And he left a zippered bag on my seat of fuel conditioner and fabric cleaner. A very nice touch and again at no charge. He said he's a performance man and knows boats and engines. I was searching for a honest and reliable mechanic to service my Crownline. My bilge pump was not working and I also had neglected servicing the boat the last two seasons so it was due. I called CP marine and an appointment was made immediately. They did a fantastic job! My bilge just had a bad fuse and did not need to be replaced. They installed a new stereo at a very reasonable price and they even offered to set me up with a detail service. Last week, I noticed drive oil leaking from the prop shaft. Brought it to Brett, he took it apart and found more extensive damage than a leaky seal. Couldn't have asked for a better marine mechanic. My regular mechanic blew me off and said he couldn't get me in for a seasonal service for six to eight weeks, so I started searching for a mechanic who could get me in sooner and I came across CP Marine. I called on Tuesday, made an appointment for Friday and ended up saving about $100 compared to what I was paying before. Not to mention, more services were included with the price. Brett even fixed me up with a new bow cleat as mine was loose and couldn't be tightened from underneath due to the design of the hull. But Brett came up with a solution and now I have a new, usable cleat. Top notch service, very knowledgeable, easy to work with. Didn't try to sell me crap I don't need. Boat has worked great since work has been done. They went above and beyond for me. Brett has extensive boat knowledge and was even able to work on a Berkeley Jet Drive. Most shops seem afraid of boats like this but Brett was more than comfortable with my Kachina boat! When I picked the Boat up we even had a conversation about some small things I could do and where I could pick up the parts to do on my own if I wanted. I am very pleased with the service I received from Brett at CP Marine in Tempe. I was lucky enough to get same day service but you shouldn't expect that to always be the case. Brett communicated with me well and the estimate he gave was exactly what I ended up paying after service was completed. A lot of places lure you in with "unbeatable prices" but then they just take shortcuts and still sock you with several hundred dollars of "additional required work" before you get your boat back. CP Marine doesn't operate that way, here you can expect honesty, integrity, and high quality workmanship. CP Marine has by business for ever; you should give them a shot at yours as well. Have decided to sell my pontoon boat and wanted to have someone check out the out drive..Arranged to take it to CP Marine yesterday after seeing the ratings and met with Brett. He used the forklift to reposition the boat so we could use water, had me run the engine while he monitored the shifting of gears, and determined that everything was working properly. When I asked how much I owed him for his labor and analysis, he said he didn't want any money. How many boat repair shops would do this??? Thxs. We have a 20 foot 1994 Chris Craft I/O, owned since new, nearly always garaged, with just over 200 hours on it. In short, old boat in good shape, not used much. The problem is a leak around the stern drive. I have called four shops and was consistently told between $1000 and $1200 to do a "transom seal." I called CP Marine and was told $800 to $1500, so basically the same answer. I bemoaned spending so much on a boat worth only three to four times that and that only goes to the lake maybe ten times a year. He suggested it could be sealed with silicone sealer for a tiny fraction of the cost. He talked himself out of a huge repair job! When I said I would do it myself, he even gave me a tip about how. If the leak turns out to be something else, or for any other repair, I'm going straight to CP Marine. read more
