Another road trip, another hunger emergency. Heading out of Atlanta on I-85, I thought I could make it to Greenville before stopping for dinner. Nope. Comfort food was calling, and Cracker Barrel in Anderson answered. This location is incredibly convenient to I-85 at Exit 19B. It almost feels like it's sitting out there by itself, but don't let that fool you--it gets BUSY. I arrived around supper time just before the rush hit, and within a short time the place had that packed Sunday-lunch-after-church energy. I ordered my Cracker Barrel comfort-food regular: country fried steak with mashed potatoes and corn, gravy on the side, biscuits, and an Arnold Palmer. My server, Michael--name proudly embroidered on his apron--was lovely. Friendly, welcoming and attentive from the start. My meal came out surprisingly fast considering how busy the restaurant was becoming, and everything arrived piping hot. The country fried steak was crispy, hearty and exactly what I wanted. Mashed potatoes, corn, gravy, biscuits--nothing fancy here, just a big plate of stick-to-your-ribs comfort food. I did need to give everything a generous dose of salt and pepper to wake up the flavors. Next time, I'm asking for Tabasco too. Problem solved. What impressed me most was Michael. The restaurant kept filling up, but he never disappeared. He checked on me frequently, kept things moving and maintained that friendly attitude even as his section got busier. Good service deserves recognition--and a good tip. Now, Cracker Barrel, we need to discuss dessert. For a restaurant built around nostalgic Southern comfort food, the dessert selection feels like a missed opportunity. Where is the carrot cake? Red velvet? Pecan pie? Coconut cream pie? And for goodness' sake, COBBLER! Give me a warm peach or blackberry cobbler with vanilla ice cream and take my money. The biscuit beignets and sundae options just weren't calling my name after that meal. So I skipped dessert and headed toward the register, where Cracker Barrel cleverly makes you walk through the land of rocking chairs, candy and every tchotchke imaginable before you can escape. Earlier I'd spotted some soft, chewy pralines, so I grabbed a couple for the road. Not quite as memorable as some I've had in Texas, but they did the job. Overall, this was exactly what a road-trip stop should be: convenient, fast, hot, filling and genuinely friendly. If you're traveling north or south on I-85 near Anderson and comfort food starts calling, Exit 19B is an easy detour. And if Michael is working, you're in good hands. Out and about on a Saturday about 1 pm and had a gift certificate for Cracker Barrel. Don't eat here a lot because it's not the hubby's favorite, but the gift store always calls my name. It was a treat to go to CB when I was a kid...something magical about the store at the front of the restaurant. Although I rarely buy anything it is always fun to browse. The staff is usually so friendly-true Southern hospitality. Not necessarily a healthy menu but you can enjoy true Southern comfort food. Emily was my server. She checked on me several times. She was very courteous and attentive but didn't hover excessively. I had the NY Strip Steak, a loaded baked potato, fried okra and a cornbread muffin and a biscuit. It was all good. The only think I would skip next time is the peach lemonade. (It tasted "fake.") I treated myself to a hot S'mores Coffee to finish off my meal. The Cracker Barrel in Anderson was just a quick stop for us, since we had already eaten dinner before arriving, but it still fit neatly into the rhythm of RV travel. We popped in for the restroom and a little candy for the road, with Mrs. K. happily finding her lemon sticks and me unable to walk past chocolate bars that have nuts. By morning, we were long gone before they opened, which makes this feel like an odd review, but Cracker Barrel has always been supportive of the RV lifestyle and welcomes overnight parking with the polite request that if you're having a meal, you have it with them. We were traveling and wanted to hit a breakfast spot on the way. We decided on this restaurant. It was clean, traditional, and pleasant environment. We got seated right away. I got adventurous and decided to try something from their special menu. I ordered the Sausage and Eggs Hashbrown Casserole. That was a mistake! It was heavy, spicy, and unremarkable. Then something they seasoned it with, or worse, didn't agree with me at all. I am normally pretty tolerant of different foods. Not this time. I won't paint a picture. I haven't been right for two days after. My date got traditional food items, Grandma's Sampler, and loved it. Our server, Addison, was excellent. Very attentive and kind. If I had a restaurant I would want an employee like her. If I would have ordered traditional fare it would have been a 5 star experience. I wanted to share some feedback regarding my recent visit. I'm not sure what was going on in the kitchen, but the food I ordered was not seasoned at all. The macaroni tasted like store-bought macaroni, and the broccoli casserole was not good at all. The fish was also disappointing, especially for this being my first time dining here. I received a coupon for free Biscuit Beignets. Since we were on our way to New Orleans I decided to try these at CB. When we entered a sweet young man took us to our table. Very polite. I do not use the mobile app for pick up because I am always on the road and I stop to eat a nice meal inside. So, I was frustrated with having to order my food on the app as a pick up, which was the only way to get them free. Corporate should make the offer dine in or mobile. Our waitress Madeline was new so she really could not help me, but she got her manager Kathrine, who was a doll and very patient until I placed my order from my phone. My aunt placed her order with Madeline. Because Kathrine helped me with my order, she put the food on a regular plate and sent it out with my aunts order. I love Chicken fried chicken and CB has one of the best. I got carrots, mashed potatoes, and macaroni and cheese. The chicken was tender! The Macaroni and the Mashed Potatoes were creamy. The baby carrots were not sweet, but they were good. I like sweet. The Biscuit Beignets are cinnamon sugared donuts and are okay in taste but I am glad I did not pay for them. I will say the best part of the BB was the pecan syrup. Too sweet for me to have more than one, but it made the beignets taste really good. Sooo much food for only $13.19. My aunt got the same thing with different sides. We ended up taking half of it home for our lunch the next day. AND it was still good! Recently while I was staying at a hotel next door to the "country store" I ordered take out and only got taken. I ordered the peanut butter crunch mocha ( a cold coffee drink which according to the pictures looked like a frappe/ milkshake. What I received was iced coffee@ $4.79. Apparently this item requires peanut butter along with a crunch topping, i know- go figure! My item had neither of those things. Literally ice, coffee and milk in a incredibly small styrofoam cup. I also ordered a plate of 4 sides. Served hot? No, ha! Apparently they thought since it's to-go then I should warm them up myself because the food seemed as though it was cut out of frozen dinners and thrown in the slots of the partitioned plate. I understood that a bit of cooling would happen by walking the food to my room (literally next door), and could further understand if it was cold outside but this was September in ANDERSON, SC (It was HOT outside)! No excuse. The wait for a manager to ask about a refund was so long that 4 large parties checked out ( with multiple guests paying separately) while I patiently waited ( after having to repeat to all 3 cashiers and one hostess individually) only to be brought another iced coffee (which they called a peanut butter crunch mocha)--and was informed that there was no peanut butter or crunch topping in the kitchen and this was the best the kitchen could do. The food was never discussed with the manager before he walked away and eventually came out an wielding an iPad, scrolled through multiple screens and log ins until finding my order and informing me there wasn't anything he could do. I wish I was joking, I'm not! He Literally stated "ummm, there's really nothing I can do about your order." All totaled up, I spent $23.00 for a semi- defrosted microwave dinner that was anything but edible, an iced coffee ( with no peanut butter, crunch or mocha, and some biscuits & cornbread pieces ( 2) which looked like they were the result of a carb shortage. Cracker Barrel has always been our number one choice. I have eaten in the Anderson CB many many times. Having said that the food today was subpar. I had breakfast and gone was the think gravy. In its place was a runny, thin almost sauce like gravy? It was not tasty. The hash brown casserole lacked the TLC I've grown to expect. My companion had the chicken fried steak with the same runny sauce. I was so disappointed. If this is the new CB, I'm done. If this is the cook, then teach him the CB way. Eggs were cooked right and warm. Hashbrowns a little warmer than the eggs. Nothing was hot. Signature Fried Chicken - cool. Fried Okra - too cold to eat and soggy, not crunchy at all. I've lived in the south for 20 years and never visited Cracker Barrel until recently when a friend stopped in for breakfast while we were headed to Atlanta. I grew up in NJ so I don't often crave Southern food but I'm glad I tried it. First off, I had no idea they had a cute little boutique attached to the restaurant. It's not cheap but they had a lot of cute items. I did end up buying a pair of sandals. I tried the country friend steak... which was covered in gravy. (I scraped it off because it was a TON) I learned I do not like okra or dumplings.... I LOVEEEEEEE hash brown casserole, i love biscuits with butter and honey.... I hate corn muffins and their Mac n cheese is pretty good. Lol. My friend however, loved all of it. She had the fried chicken, okra, mashed potatoes and biscuits. I tried her chicken and it was delicious. It was great quality and fresh- my taste buds just didn't vibe with some of the things I've never had before. Try it though! It's really hard to write a creative review about the Cracker Barrel. I have never craved going to the Cracker Barrel, but it's always a convenient option when you're staying near a hotel. This is I-85 hotel row and there's plenty of places to grab a bite nearby. We often stay at the Fairfield Inn here and walk over to the Cracker Barrel for breakfast only. And those of you that visit here often know that you can't go wrong with the breakfast. There are so many better options for lunch nearby (and dinner) that I wouldn't come here for anything other than breakfast. Keep in mind, there's a Waffle House and Fatz feet away, too. There's nothing on the menu that is incredible, but nothing to complain about either. My favorite thing to order is the parfait breakfast because it's healthy and taste good. Meanwhile, the Wild Maine Blueberry Pancake is tough to beat, too. The best thing about this location is the service is good. You'll feel like you're eating at home with friends. That's what this chain hangs their hat on - and they've done a good job meeting those expectations here. read more

So me, my husband, and my 3 daughters decided to go out to eat because most of our food went bad from the power outage. We chose cracker barrel, because we love the food, the service is always top tier! The workers almost seem to be like family and they treat you like you are one of theirs! Yesterday was so so so different... Things are great, then one thing leads to another and I hear loud yelling coming from the kitchen. Sounded like a lady demanding her workers around! She sounded like some evil witch! I figured out who was yelling shortly after because she was still demanding workers around in the dining room. When I came back to my table from the ladies room, I saw this tall brunette lady demanding this younger red hair manager with glasses around. I could easily tell that this younger lady was getting flustered by the way she was being treated. When I say that taller lady was demanding, I mean pointing at things sternly and in faces. I'm assuming that she is the younger manager's boss. This is not right! Nobody should ever treat their workers like this, EVER! After this, all im worried about are those poor workers and that manager. After we get the bill, I notice the manager walking by to seat a couple at a table, and she looked so sad! As a mother I feel horribly for this poor girl, I could tell she had been crying and is holding back tears. That's one tough cookie! Let me start by saying that I have never felt more obligated to write a review. About a month ago we had a not so great experience at this location. I let it go because everyone can have an off day. Sorry, this is going to be a long one. Well we just left from another very disappointing breakfast experience.... This time was worse than last. After deliberating long and hard over what to order, the waiter gets to our table and tells us they are out of anything that has hash browns in it. Okay.... we need more time to come up with plan b.... We figure it out and place our order. I decided on blueberry pancakes. Then we proceed to watch 2 tables that were seated after us get served. Okay....working on patience... our food finally comes and the waiter forgets to bring us syrup. We all ended up ordering pancakes, so we all wait. Only to watch our waiter stop and take an order from another table. When he finally makes it to our table he informs me they are out of the blueberry syrup! WHAT!!! The syrup makes the meal..... I tell him that they should get some of the store shelf being I wasn't told before ordering. All he could say was sorry about that... I ended up going to buy the syrup. To add to the misery of the visit. We get the bill and my sister asks for a box and my husband asks for more coffee. We again sit, wait and watch our waiter take another table's order and still we wait. My sister ended up going to get her own box.... and my husband never did get his coffee!
