This is one of my favorite places in the Downcity to browse, get a gift, get something for me. They have lots of stuff that have a Rhode Island inspired theme or just fun, high quality stuff that you could find in any nice upscale gift shop anywhere in the world. Craftland is a mix of card shop, gift store and souvenir store. The staff is pleasant and very helpful if you need their help. The stuff is all colorful and well laid out, so when I walk in the store, it feels bright and cheerful. This last time I got some t-shirts for my nieces...they have lots of colors, patterns, logos, designs and sizes. You can fell the quality of the fabric when you grab them, not the thin cheap ones that you get like in the streets of New York...LOL.. read more

My favorite kind of shop--filled with the work of tons of artists, makers, creators/ creatives. I always love seeing what local artists are up to-- their sense of humor, what resonates with locals, common themes I'm picking up while wandering multiple stores. I loved the selection of cards here, tons of fun jewelry, lots of whatnots. I do find all the "no photos" annoying. Just because someone wants to take a pic doesn't mean they are running out to rip off your work, in fact, I think most of us forget about the photos we took, but for me, it's how I remember I want to go back to a place for something certain. People will always steal ideas, photos or not, so maybe try not to have such a scarcity mentality. Anyway, if you local/ maker stuff, this is the go to spot in Providence. read more

As soon as your step foot in this store, its impossible to be anything but happy. It is filled with color and unique, hand-made gifts. This is a fantastic store in downtown Providence. So much to look at, it took me two 30 minutes rounds of this small space to feel like I had seen everything! Great little shop selling art, jewelry, t-shirts, stationary, and more - many of the objects made/designed by local and regional artists. My friend and I were visiting Providence and Newport for a weekend, and our last morning in Providence we were just wandering around downtown checking out the shops. Craftland was a great find. I got some great earrings made by a local jewelry designer and my friend found some art she wants to frame and display in her house! Great local shop. read more

Looks like I'm the first guy to review Craftland. Come on guys I can't be the only one who likes this kind of stuff. I admit it I like these types of stores. This is not just an arts and craft store. They have a nice variety of stuff in a small store. Best of all most of the products are made in RI. Cool and quirky RI made T-shirts. All kinds of artistic creations. My personal favorites were the colorful plastic light fixtures that appear to be glass and each one is unique. I will buy one when I find a place where it could be hung. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Great downtown store worth checking out if you are visiting the area or live nearby. Prices are reasonable and you know what, I would spend a few cents or dollars more for locally made products. read more

What turned me off the most was the politically and racially oriented signs in the window that I and others have found unnecessary and offensive. This shop is so freaking cute! They have so many trinkets and accessories made by local artists. I love supporting local shops and this shop is a great place to go to if you like to do that as well. Wow, Craftland is really a great place to visit on a regular basis! They do an awesome job of bringing new product in, as well as keeping around the old favorites. I absolutely love that you can get locally made art and prints, printed clothing, jewelry and home goods all under one roof. What really stands out though is the stationery. This is hands down the best place to shop for stationery in the state. This state is really lacking in a legit stationery store and Craftland does the trick for unique and handmade cards. While I love love love everything they carry, they could up their stationery game by encroaching a bit on the jewelry section and expanding the stationery wall. They have the right idea by putting the cards on a wall display rather than entirely on spinning racks. It allows for easy viewing and showcases the amazing talent of the artists they feature. The stationery artists they carry are local, regional and national. I'd love to see even more! Oh, and I was so happy to find the little 'no photo' tags all over the place. One more thing to combat art/IP/idea stealing is a plus in my book! I've had too many friends get their ideas ripped off by companies who like to scout out local gems like Craftland for ideas. First off, this review is WAY overdue as an update. Secondly, the staff at Craftland really touched my heart with their efforts since my first review of the store. In the following Fall after my Yelp review, my partner and I decided to take another chance on Craftland as we were walking through the city. While I felt like I was setting myself up for disaster again, I wanted in because they have such cool things and I liked giving them my money before my brain fritzed out. I mean, it's a small business, they support local designers, and it is quirky and interesting... basically everything I could ever want in a store. So with my noise canceling headphones on, in we went again and browsed around. Yup, the music was loud, but I did not want to bring attention to myself so I just gritted my teeth and started looking through their wares quickly because I didn't expect to be in the store very long due to the volume. After a minute or so, the music dimmed considerably. While it was a breathe of relief for my brain, it seemed odd because we were the only ones in the store so someone else couldn't of complained about the volume. I looked up and there a staff member that kindly smiling at me. As no-one else was in the store, I knew the volume had to of been lowered for me. I was shocked, a little embarrassed and also touched. I walked over to her somewhat sheepishly, thanked her for lowering the volume and asked her how she knew to lower the noise. She told me that the Craftland staff had read my review and had just felt horrible about the interactions I had been having in their store. She apologized, said they talked about it and while none of them could remember what happened, they were really sorry. This is why shopping in the small community shops matter. Where else would this happen- with the staff reading the Yelp reviews and enacting change to provide personal attention to their customers if they can? That sales woman really made me feel like the staff cared and that they were sorry. When a business reaches out and says; we see your difficulties and we'd like to help, it just makes life a little easier to move through. Since then, I've been back in the shop quite a few times and it has been lovely each visit. I really appreciated their honesty, their continued efforts, and their attention to their community. I continue to love the space they have created and the artists they support. It is hard to make changes if you aren't aware someone has been hurt and this is where Yelp reviews really work. Everyone has bad days and we don't necessarily know how this can impact others, but I certainly don't want to hold their store to behavior they weren't aware of and have since rectified really kindly anymore. They read about the problem, they made changes and were kind about it. Isn't that what we all want and are working towards? Understanding, Growth, Collaboration? They did these things and I'm so thankful that I took another chance on them. So, thanks Craftland staff, your compassion and attention to your customers is A+ in my book now. read more

I love the new Craftland. The space is a bit smaller, but I like it better than the old space as it's feels a bit more cohesive and manageable. There's also a ton of natural sunlight, which is lovely -- you can really see the gorgeous textures, colors and details in all the hand-made goodies! Quite honestly, Craftland is where I come for most of my gift-buying -- there's usually something for everyone, from prints to tees to jewelry, and all of it is made by independent artisans, many of them from RI. My favorites are the tees -- really soft, high-quality tees with great graphics that make a perfect gift. The prices range from very affordable to investment pieces -- in particular the earthenware. Everything is so beautiful and beautifully made, too which makes shopping both a pleasure and difficult, since I often end up wanting one of almost everything! Also, Craftland is my go-to for stationery items -- they have wonderfully quirky little cards, stationery sets and postcards that range from sweet to cheeky. Love it! read more

It's a fun place, but I can't really see myself buying anything from here simply because everything is too expensive. Beautiful letter-size calendar? It would be the perfect gift for $20 or even $25 if I'm feeling generous, but $30 is just too high for what is, in the end, paper goods. I thought there might be some hidden deals somewhere in the store, but the same sticker shock happened with all their other merchandise (rings, t-shirts, jewelry, prints, cards, etc.). But will not be back after an encounter with a very rude employee earlier today.
