Anytime I'm in the area and time permits. I come to Frog & Toad - East! They have the most interesting and campy little accessories, decor, clothing, and housewares. From the fun baseball caps bearing phrases that are dripping with sarcasm to the posters, bumper stickers and lapel pins that add a little levity to life. I definitely stop by here when I'm looking for fun gifts to give out of towners because there are so many references to local staples that are uniquely Rhode Island. Did I mention the staff is super nice every time I come in here? They know I'm mostly browsing and eventually will find something. After lunch we passed through a fun neighborhood and our attention caught by a shop with lots of metal animal sculptures lining the sidewalk. We popped into Frog and Toad to see what else they had to offer. We found it was a fun spot full of eclectic trinkets and items, gifts and clothing. Some specific to the area, some not so much, but fun nonetheless. They offer items in many price ranges , and items good for young and old alike. We enjoyed looking through all the items, getting some good laughs and even picking up a few small items to take home. Frog and Toad has been a favorite of mine for years. It's one of those stores that I love going to poke around in and quite often leave empty handed. But when I do make a purchase, it's a great find! Think of specialty gifts. Quirky items. Funny photos/magnets/stickers/pins. Local artists sell items here and a lot pertaining to RI and local cities/towns. I stopped in this afternoon to see if anything stood out for this holiday season. I'm not claustrophobic by any means, however I felt like what I imagine an anchovy packed in a tin would feel like. The store had a strange smell and the employees weren't friendly either. This store needs to have a sign explaining the return policy somewhere by the cash out counter. I bought a ceramic teapot and teacups. As I am checking out I ask her if I can use it on the stove, she couldn't answer the question. After I paid, she calls her manager. Her manager let me know that it cannot be used that way. I told her I would like a refund for the $47 and that's when I find out it's store credit only. No where is that listed anywhere near that register (I even asked her if that's posted somewhere in the store and she said it isn't) and she didn't inform me of that while I was checking out. I tried looking around to see if there was something else I wanted and couldn't find anything. Unfortunately, I'm out $47 dollars and with a gift card to a store that's 3000 miles from where I live. I hope the random lady in the store enjoyed the shopping spree on me. read more

We visited Brown University for the whole day, but we still wanted some Rhode Island-related souvenirs. Most souvenir shops are already closed by 5 PM, so we opt-in to visit Frog and Toad. Also, there are not a lot of options for souvenir shops near the university. Frog and Toad mostly consist of random and cool gifts, but they do not have many offers for Rhode Island-related souvenirs. I was still able to find some souvenirs and collectibles I wanted such as magnets and keychains, but they only have very few selections. However, this gift shop is full of fascinating items that I thought would be good for gifts for birthdays and other special occasions. They have some quirky posters, mugs, stickers, etc. If you're looking for something fun to give, this is a place for you! For any post-holiday White Elephant occasions, this is a fun store to choose your gift. read more

I love this quirky little gift shop! It's definitely a must-stop on my Christmas shopping run, especially if you have someone on your list who has a love for pop culture. They have a cute little section filled with kitschy pop culture-centric books, cards, decor, etc. They also have a wide variety of Rhode Island-themed items, perfect if you're making a care package. The woman at the register acted put out because I interrupted her running her mouth with a co-worker to make a dang purchase. There was no greeting, no "thank you", and I had to ask for the receipt. I could stay in this shop for hours. There are so many unique and interesting knick-knacks in there -- you'll never get bored. They have a huge collection of hilarious magnets, cool clothing, stickers, cards, and a bunch of other things that I don't even know how to describe. Most of the items are reasonably priced but some of the personalized/handmade things can get pretty expensive. Still, I even had my friend set a reminder on Google Calendar to come back at the start of the next school year so I can buy some awesome new decorations to deck out my room for junior year. Accidentally stumbled in here while I was waiting for a nail appointment around the corner. What a lovely store filled with unique and interesting gifts! I went on a mini sporadic shopping spree, buying some things for myself and my nephew. They have lovely tea sets, jewelry, clothing, dishes, photographs, thank you cards, children's gifts, and so on. A lot of their merchandise is imported from places around the world, making it a very unique shopping experience. I felt sucked in, and it's really rare for a store to have that kind of power over me, where I go inside and spend a good amount of time walking around and really looking at EVERYTHING for sale. This locally owned, family run business has strong ties to the community and has done an excellent job of using their voice and influence to highlight other neighboring businesses, support social causes, and provide a level of whimsy and hope during a global pandemic that has left many of us homebound and isolated. I follow them on social media and have found their posts and stories both inspirational and helpful. I've shopped here a handful of times over the past several months and have enjoyed my "knock it off" and "shut it down" t shirts the most. I have also purchased several gifts for other people and have made the conscious choice to do as much of my holiday shopping locally. They offer fast, free shipping for orders over $25 or curbside pickup, making it super easy to shop safely. I wish gift wrapping was an option, so I could ship items directly to the recipient and save myself a trip to the post office, but i realize that they are likely running on limited hours and with limited staffing. read more

I almost never leave horrible reviews for places, but I don't get the point of this store. It has an adorable name, which works in its favor, but then you walk in and it's like Anne Geddes and a wayward Hallmark Card writer got together to throw things at you. They have everything you can possibly pack into a tiny space and nothing you'd actually want to buy. I'm not sure why it's described as a gift "boutique," when it's more of an eensy tchotchke emporium. I've been in 3 times, each time thinking I must be missing something since it's so beloved, but I always last about 2 minutes before I start having a claustrophobic panic attack. I don't know. Maybe if they cleared out 3/4 of their stock and included things you'd actually want on display in your house. This is the meanest review I've ever written, and yet I stand by it. read more

I freakin love this place. It's the perfect place for a quirky gift or a little treat for myself. I love being able to buy local art and small-business-made products, and Frog & Toad delivers! The merchandise is generally fairly priced and eclectic, with everything from kitchenwares to jewelry to clothing to toys. They've also got great local souvenirs (gotta love the "You Can Go to Hell, I'm Going to Pawtucket" alligator design). I bought a Christmas gift here and they did complementary gift wrap in a lovely purple box with green ribbon. I love a place with a good free gift wrapping! The only downside is that the store is small for all the wares they sell, so it can get very crowded and scary to navigate. This is my go-to place in Providence for quirky and adorable gifts. They carry a wide variety of Rhode Island-themed cards, clothing, journals, scarves, bags, jewelry, kitchen items, and trinkets all at a range of prices. The items here are so irresistible that I enter to buy a gift for someone else and always end up buying something for myself too. I love how the shop gets rearranged every few weeks, and that rearrangement alone is so fun to look at. The friendly staff members are genuinely eager to help with your gift-giving (and receiving, if you're like me) needs. They're very knowledgeable and go out of their way to ensure you're completely satisfied with your purchase. I once wanted four plates, but the store only carried two at the time. Instead of telling me that they were out-of-stock and asking me to come back when more were available, the staff immediately took down my contact information, ordered more plates, and called me when they were available. All in a matter of a couple of days! That kind of service is so rare these days and it's a true testament to the staff's commitment to helping the community. The tables, shelves, and racks that the items are beautifully arranged on are also quite beautiful. It doesn't hurt to ask if those are for sale! Not only does Frog &Toad have adorable and often hilarious items that you can't get anywhere else, but their customer service is just outstanding. I just went in there to pick up an item I'd asked them to hold for me, and I'm still a bit giddy at not only what I got, but just how great an experience it was. The item I wanted was one that I had seen on their facebook page. Their initial shipment sold out immediately, and I was heartbroken. So I sent them a message via facebook asking if they could hold one from the next shipment for me. They did, sent me a message when it was in, and I went to pick it up later that day. The little shop was full of customers, but none of the staff were frazzled, and they were all incredibly efficient and friendly. Frog & Toad is one of those stores where you rarely know what you're going to get, and therefore it's another in my "I suck at gift-giving, let's just see what they have" success stories. I love peering in the window, and I love wandering around the space and discovering things. I do wish it was a bit bigger because I feel like I never quite see everything, but that's a small issue. read more
