This place is a true NYC gem! Sometimes you just need to make things and this is a perfect outlet. Very laid back, friendly vibe. I was lucky enough to get a four-hour private stained glass lesson with Kelsie McNair, and while I have a lot to practice and plenty more to learn, I feel equipped enough to practice on my own. Soup to nuts, we went from design idea, to material selection and through all key steps of the process to make a window hanger. As a novice, I'm surprised I walked away with anything respectable but I did! All the while, Kelsie, the instructor and Chris the manager were good natured and supportive. They are people you'd happily hang out with and made it very easy to learn from. Today far exceeded expectations and increased my interest in the craft. This session was a gift and I would recommend it for others.

Such a fun class to do- by yourself or with a partner. We came on a Friday evening and had so much fun making a lamp. We had 5 to choose from and they gave us tutorials on how to cut, solder, and glue the pipes together. We loved Shannon! She was so sweet and attentive and just an easy person to talk to. The whole class is 3 hours and definitely worth it!

Copper Lamp date night at Craftsman Ave

I found out about Craftsman Ave just a few days before our wedding anniversary and it felt like a fun change from the usual "fancy dinner" anniversary celebration. When we signed up to make copper lamps, we chose it expressly because of the date of the class being near our anniversary, and were pleasantly surprised that the date night package included wine from a local Gowanus wine store and pizza from Table 87. I had never heard of Tabel 87 either (I guess I live under a rock, or in Manhattan) but I will now be a fan for the rest of my days. I have NEVER made anything like a lamp or even cut copper pipes, but the guide was so laid back and gave great direction. I felt like I was really doing it myself but I also didn't feel nervous or self conscious about my lack of experiencing soldering or using a pipe cutter. I feel pretty awesome about myself after the whole experience, and my husband who was initially a reluctant participant was inspired to try out other workshops in the future. We will be back!

My husband and I had the best time forging our survival knife. We weren't exactly sure what to expect, but our instructor Gerard was an absolute pro and made the experience incredibly fun, interesting and memorable. The beer, wine and local pizza was an added bonus. Highly recommend for a unique date night!

AMAZING place. The whole concept is you come out of a fun 3-4 hour class with a beautiful FINISHED piece, starting with zero skills. The sense of achievement is unparalleled, the teachers are great and you really learn in a cool, fun environment. They even have wine/beer (after you've used the dangerous tools). Cool space with genuinely creative maker community. EXCELLENT for anyone tired of the desk life and yearning to rediscover real things.

I walked out of there with a very cute leather bag and had a great time with both the instructors and the people in the class. I would absolutely recommend highly.

We had an amazing experience at Craftsman Ave! Jeff is an absolute pleasure to work with and made it such an amazing experience. We are looking forward to going back to our next workshop. If you are considering coming here, don't think twice! Such a fun time.

I took Craftsman Ave's "Make a Steel Planter Box (Introduction to Welding and Metal Fabrication)" class this past weekend and had a blast. The instructor was knowledgeable and the perfect amount of hands on. The space is very cool and safety was top notch. This won't be my last time at Craftsman Ave. Thanks guys!

    My stool. Love it!

At first glance, it's a workshop tucked away with lots of creative space. I especially love that the business is a woman owned business! The owner Bonnie, hosts classes and teaches in her space all the while offering folks to reserve time to use the space for a variety of projects. Truly a community space. I had the opportunity to check out the space for a Yelp Elite Event as a plus one guest. The project we were tasked with was to make a custom tray. Bonnie was generous with her time and advice on how we were going to put our trays together. She offered the paint supplies and tools needed to create it and customize it. Just chatting with her was quite the treat! We asked about her plans for the place; what her goals are as the business model evolves. She has so much passion for her work and it shows. Her handiwork is exceptional. I would totally want to return and bring friends to work on something together. It will be so fun! Call ahead and book a time slot. Bonnie and her staff will make the experience unique and fun.
