We struggled to find a microwedding venue that fit us for quite a few months. We live on long…read moreisland and I am originally from Florida and Long Island basically only caters to large expensive weddings and Florida would have been a little annoying to bring a bunch of things by plane. We wanted to find something that was small and rustic so I googled small upstate weddings and found a reddit thread that led us to Experience Outoors. We saw pictures on their website with beautiful views on Scott Cobble's Mountain that fit 20-40 guests, just what we were looking for. We booked it sight unseen after talking with their venue coordinator, Claire. She was so nice and after talking with her, we knew it was the right place for us. We booked a tour of the venue there over winter which Bailey met us and showed us around and even covered in snow, it was beautiful. Closer to the wedding, Claire followed up with us on our guest count, decor, timeline of the day, etc. We were able to come the day before and rehearse. They said they'd help set-up all our decor. We didn't have too much. We had a small pallet welcome sign, a few pots of mums and flower petals in cones but we were so grateful that they could set-up for us. We used a speaker at the ceremony to play our pre-ceremony music, processional, pre-recording readings, recessional and post-recessional music. Lauren helped us the day before and day of with driving us all up to the ceremony venue and she manned the phone connected to the speaker and drove the music changes. Everything went so well. It was a perfect day in a perfect venue with all of our closest loved ones and we will never forget it. The venue includes ziplining for the bride and groom anytime over the weekend so we did a group zipline the day after with a bunch of our guests. Our guests got 15% off of their tour. We had Cheeky (Lauren) and Firelord as our guides for ziplining. We all got names chosen for us by someone else in the group to be called upon for the tour. They suited us all up, walked us through the how to go and stop on the lines and we went through a bunch of zip lines at various speeds, rappels and a few mini hikes. It was a blast. I failed the trust fall though haha. They take photos of everyone through the tour for us to look at afterwards. Everyone here is so friendly. We loved everything about this venue and plan to go back and visit when we can.

Parts of ot are very steep and can be difficult in wet conditons. Cascade is great because if you can push yourself a little more, you can double back to see Porter mountain's peak as well! The view was absolutely breathtaking and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a challenging hike!

One of my favorite hikes in the high peak region -- it's a great starter one to those interested in…read moredoing a high peak. You combine it with Porter to get two mountains off your list, for the "physical price" of doing one! This is a gentle mountain, but still should not be taken lightly as it is a high peak and it will challenge you, no matter how fit you might be. I've climbed this in the summer 2-3 times and at least 2-3 times in the winter. I prefer doing it in the winter personally for less crowds and beautiful ice covered pine sights and an Arctic wonderland, but either one is gorgeous. Parking is free, but limited...come early to try to snag a spot. Doing both mountains will only add an hour or so to your total hike time, so don't be afraid to tackle both even if you might be tired after hitting Cascade. I think Cascade is good to hit first and then head over to Porter, but honestly either one will work well. Plan 3-8hours round trip, depending on your level of physical ability. Come prepared and know the conditions, talk to the rangers or other hikers so you know what to expect.

Stopped in to kill some time during a rainy camping trip to the Adirondacks. There wasn't anything…read moregoing on when we stopped but the staff was super friendly and let us walk around. There were several rooms set up like a museum with jerseys, medals, etc on display that were definitely cool to check out. That have a bobsled set up and a luge to check out as well. It's crazy to see how slim and narrow the bobsled is in real life-i can't believe they fit so many people in there! It was free to walk around and a nice way to spend some time on a rainy afternoon.

Hidden gem in the heart of lake placid! We decided to take a break from hiking the high peaks with…read moreour 9 and 12yo kids and rented a boat. FYI, they only accept cash or checks. I was a bit apprehensive since we are boating novices, having only used a motorized boat once before. Turns out we had nothing to worry about. We were given a pristine, spacious pontoon (called the Bentley, if that tells you anything :), and the operator gave us crystal clear directions on how to use it. The person helping us also gave us a map of lake placid and pointed out good areas to stop for swimming and fishing. My kids had the time of their lives on the water. The operator was kind enough to suggest bringing one of their floating tubes and a fish net, all for no extra charge. I thought we would only be on the water for 2hrs at most, but we ended up being out for more than 3. The kids said they could have stayed out on the lake all day. We did not catch any fish but we all enjoyed the beautiful view in our clean, spacious pontoon. Given our inexperience, this excursion could have easily gone south, however Captain Marneys clearly cares about its patrons and goes the extra mile to make sure everything goes well. We stayed at the High Peaks resort right next door, and their boats weren't out for the season yet - Mirror Lake Boat Rental to the rescue! NOTE: if you are planning to go soon (this review is being written on 4/27/21) this boat rental shop will be VERY DIFFICULT to find. You need to look for the sign I have in my photos that tells you to text the number provided, then follow the dirt path behind the construction to the little desk that will give you instructions. This shop technically does have open hours, but we had to text the owner Greg upon arrival and then waited for him to come down and rent us a boat. In the future, I would recommend just texting before heading down there and meeting him when he's already there. Check out their website for full details of cost and times and such. $30/hour for most of your standard boats, including the fun bikes! We opted for a paddle boat so we could save money and be out on the water together. The hour flew by even though it was a little chilly when the wind blew. Cash only, which is inconvenient but understandable considering this biz is fully outside, and there's an ATM at the resort across the street if you need it. This is a great way to see Mirror Lake from a new vantage point and is TONS of fun. Happy boating!

The food is typically quite good. The building is beautiful and perfect for a romantic dinner. I LOVE the yoga instructors. It seems the owners are not as present as they were when the business first opened, and perhaps this has caused some of the issues other guests have noted. There are definitely worse places around, so we will continue to patronize New Vida and enjoy it for everything it is.
