This was a bit of a surprise we discovered when scouting for places to visit near Lake Placid. This visitor center is neat and clean. The guide was informative but almost stoic, delivering a relatively straightforward narrative about the homestead and grounds. Definitely a place for reflection and contemplation, especially considering the political turmoil our country continues to endure.

Stopped by here for a quick visit while I was in town on September 15th. A great place to learn about one of the darkest chapters in American history. The site is easy to walk through with everything nearby. I wish I'd been in town for one of the events, but as a historian it was cool to see this site with a powerful connection to a pivotal time in U.S. history.

We'd been to Lake Placid many times before we finally took the time to check out John Brown's Farm and boy, were we happy we did! The two times we visited, it did not appear to be open, so we weren't able to take the tour or enter the barn, however we enjoyed our visits nonetheless. It's a beautiful property just off the main drag as you drive into Lake Placid. Open fields, views of the ski jumps, and beautiful flowers in the summer months. It's also quite the hot spot for wedding/engagement/family photos, and after a few minutes, you'll see why! We reviewed the map provided which outlined the various buildings on the property and also read some of the history of John Brown on the informational boards posted. There are a few statues and buildings you can explore and then be on your way. It would also be a great spot for a picnic lunch, as there as some picnic tables in the rear and fantastic scenery with the small pond and rolling fields. We also checked out the trails behind the farm, where we were told dogs could run off leash and found the trails to be well-maintained, clearly marked, and shaded. Beautiful flowers lined the path as well. Our pup can't wait for his next visit here!

About 3 miles of family friendly trails. Highly recommended for the history.

You'll enjoy the 'tour' if open and love the easy walk along the wooded path. Kids 5 and up can do this beautiful walk even if the farm is closed the day you arrive.

I recently stopped by Big Z in Lake Placid and tried their spicy chicken sandwich with fries…read more Overall, it was okay -- nothing bad, but nothing that really stood out either. The spicy chicken sandwich was pretty basic. I was expecting a little more kick, but the heat level was mild at best. The chicken itself was decent, but it didn't have that bold flavor or crispiness that makes you crave it again. It felt more like a standard chicken sandwich with a light seasoning rather than something truly "spicy." The fries were actually the highlight of the meal. They were hot, crispy, and seasoned well -- definitely better than the sandwich in my opinion. If I were to go back, it would probably be more for the fries than the main dish. The restaurant itself was nice and clean, and the atmosphere was comfortable. Staff seemed fine and everything looked well kept, which I definitely appreciate. However, the price of the food didn't quite match the flavor or overall experience. For what you pay, I was expecting something a bit more memorable.

Best onion rings I've ever had, came back for more night 2! My kid raved over the mozzarella sticks, impressive cheese pull. I think they have fried sides perfected!

Going to offer a bit of a different review here…read more I've only ever been to Mirror Lake Public Beach in the winter. Covered in a thick blanket of snow, the surface of the frozen water indistinct from the shoreline itself. It acts as a wonderful launching point for all the things Mirror Lake has to offer in this season. Easily walkable from Main Street and nearby street parking, the beach area is nestled near to the toboggan shoot. Benches are a welcome convenience, especially when you have ice skates in tow. I brought a backpack to carry my boots in case I wanted to prematurely exit the ice before looping back to the beach itself but most folks left them near to this seating without issue. The frozen waters just off shore host a couple small areas for ice hockey and an entrance point to the lengthy pathway visitors may use to walk the perimeter of the icy surface. Beautiful views of the church as well as the expanse of the lake. A place you can sit, watch, and enjoy the scenery... or join in yourself!

I love Mirror Lake!…read more I've been coming here for years; I love swimming, kayaking and paddle boarding here. It's one of favorite places to go. If you haven't been here you should check it out. There's a beach area but there are also buoys if you're training for an Ironman or looking for lap swimming :) There are nearby restaurants and shops, and public restrooms and changing areas located on the beach too.
