The burrito bowl, consisting of brown rice, beans, salsa, eggs and cheese, relied a bit too much on the salsa for flavor. The turkey croissant was packed to the gills. The smoked salmon was caper and onion forward and the cranberry orange muffin was pretty good although it crumbled quickly. Service was at the counter so no opportunities for deeper engagement although they certainly could have come out more to clean the all unclean tables. TLDR: I'll still go to Cranberry's to get groceries and other front-of-house items, but I'm done waiting for the terrible service from their kitchen. I've had too many frustrating experiences for too long, and better alternatives are as close as a dozen steps away at Reunion, By And By, Magdalena's, and Staunton Bagel. Long version: I've been a Cranberry's customer for many years and have had consistently bad service at their kitchen. I could tell a half-dozen stories, but my most recent encounter illustrates the longstanding themes. I came in for some household items and my son asked for a matcha latte, so I decided to order myself a mocha too. I stood at the ordering counter for several minutes watching two people in the back of the kitchen gossip and ignore me. I was the only customer there; they had nothing else to do. Finally one of them came to the front; the other remained behind the divider doing nothing as far as I could see. I asked for the matcha and mocha, and tried to pay but their card reader wouldn't connect, so it took several more minutes for them to complete the sale. A minute or two later I got the text from my bank at 7:47 AM. Then the waiting began; now there were three people in the kitchen, still with no other customers. One or two other people did came in, but they just got self-serve cups, so the kitchen didn't need to do anything for them. Only one person worked on my order, and it was a study in leisureliness and inefficiency, with many slow trips across the kitchen for one thing or another. Finally, at 8:01 AM, the matcha was handed across the counter with an apology for the wait. I took the matcha to my son and returned to wait for my mocha, and then realized that I probably needed to ask for it. The person looked again at my ticket and said "oh yeah," and made the mocha. At 8:03, after a 20-minute wait while three people had nothing else to do, I finally had my drink. This example is essentially similar to many other experiences I've had there, and now in addition to being grouchy at them, I'm feeling like it's my own fault. I should have known better; I should have just waited till 8:00 when Reunion opened and gotten the drinks there. It would have taken the same amount of time and been a lot less irritating. In any other decently run kitchen, they'd have started making the drinks before the terminal malfunctions were sorted out. At Reunion or By & By less than a minute's walk away, or Magdalena or Staunton Bagels a couple blocks away, they go above and beyond for you. They will get started as soon as they know what you want and they're quick. I'm getting food and drinks elsewhere in the future; I'm done being mad at myself for giving Cranberry's more chances. read more

It wasn't dry & it was packed with flavor. Waffle $7.99 & a side of sausage. It was very mid. It tasted like a Bisquick waffle: very thin, crunchy, and lacked flavor. Too airy. The side of sausage gave Jimmy Dean vibes. We wouldn't get this again. Drinks (5/5): We got the same ones each time we came. Turtle Mocha (Caramel, Hazelnut & Chocolate - Hot) $6.39 & Lavender Bloom Latte (Lavender, Vanilla, Espresso, Oat milk - Hot) $7.99. The Lavender Bloom Latte was AMAZING. It's the best lavender coffee I've ever had, and it's always what I order when I go to a new coffee shop! The Turtle Mocha was delicious, very sweet. Make sure to stir it between sips or the goodness settles to the bottom of the cup. Ambiance (5/5): The eatery is in the back of a grocery store. I love the vibe. It's just a little kitchen with about 5-6 tables, some booths, and some tables. You can either get some pre-made food or order at the counter and then wait for the food to be brought to your table. Don't expect to be waited on, that's not the vibe of this place. The vibe is for some good food with quiet eating. If you need anything, go up to the staff and ask. Service (5/5): Everyone was very nice. The second time we went, we were told by the staff that there is a punch card to get a free drink after a certain number of visits! We can't wait to go back to get more punches! The staff was very efficient. The kitchen space seemed tight for the amount of people in there, but they were all moving and knew where everyone was. We got their Banker's Egg & Cheese with a couple of customized options, which they were happy to accommodate! What an awesome find in downtown! A healthy themed grocery and eatery! We easily found it from Yelp and ordered at the counter. I chose a Thai Wrap with pulled chicken, brown rice, cucumber and zucchini with a peanut sauce with a side of fresh fruit. The wrap was a big dry and the peanut was overpowering but it was out quickly and well-made. I just didn't care for all the flavors. My mom and her fiancée split a cubano sandwich and loved it - a few meats on sourdough bread toasted with pickles and mustard with house chips. They have juices and smoothies and all-day breakfast items that sounded really delicious. I'd love to come back and try the loaded oatmeal or a few of the other items. Stopped in for a light drink and snack on a Sunday. Marnie tried their Celtic juice mix which she found a bit nasty, but I liked the lemon and rosemary spritzer. The blueberry scone was heavy on the blueberries and a lot more like cake, all of which are good things. And the bagel I got was rather tiny, and probably came out of the freezer, but it was good anyhow. To start, I am reviewing this purely as a shopping spot. I did not try their food but I shopped here 2-3 times during my weeklong visit to Staunton, Virginia. They had such a wonderful assortment of holistic, naturopathic remedies, beauty products, etc. Their kombucha machine was broken while I was there, which was a bummer as I wanted to buy some but apparently their shipment was coming in several days time. This is my kinda small town place. We visited Staunton for a night and ended up having breakfast here. It's half Whole Foods-esque natural foods store and half restaurant. There's also plenty of grocers for some quick and easy meals I got the breakfast burrito and added bacon and green chili salsa. It was great and very filling, but I wish it had more cheese. So let me start by saying yeah its all over priced but I tried a sandwich wrap. The girl was very unknowledgeable about this and I asked what comes with the wrap and she says nothing. She was not the friendliest and didn't smile. So I order me some Route 11 chips and then they bring the wrap out to me and guess what??? IT GOT CHIPS so why in the hell am I eating all these chips when I shouldn't have to? The owner is not very nice, she rude. They also sell the most stale Blue Ridge cookies I ever had, they like bricks. Not sure how long her shelf stuff sits around but its not worth the high price. I will not go there again. read more

We stopped into Cranberry's for an early breakfast as we left out layover stay in Staunton. There is a small cafe with 7-8 tables in the back of this local organic and kitschy grocery store. They have a nice sized menu and we were thankful for the option. We had coffees and fresh apple juice. The coffee was strong and flavorful and the apple juice was made fresh and tasted great. We ordered two square deals (1/2 waffle, egg, and bacon). This was a great little breakfast for a young kid. The waffle was fluffy, they eggs were made as we asked and the bacon was tasty. We also had a cyclops and a egg, bacon, and toast breakfast. Everything was hot and tasty.
