They have a huge variety of salads, wraps, sandwiches, soups and more, and everything is made fresh in-house. I ordered the Chipotle Pollo and my daughter had the Far East, and both were delicious. Everything tasted incredibly fresh and healthy, and the staff couldn't have been friendlier. Another bonus--students get a 10% discount! Very meh chipotle chicken salad. Barely any chicken...5 or 6 pieces. Not even 1/2 a tomato. Barely a handful of black beans and tortilla strips. Skimpy on ever level. Well, except the lettuce. Waaaaaay too much lettuce. Filler to make salad look better. Did the job...fed me, but not as enjoyable as I had hoped and expected. Worse still that I ordered through DoorDash so this land salad was $24 delivered, definitely overpaid. Also ordered 2 bottles of water only got 1. Just needed a cup of black coffee to wake me up to finish our trip. Ordered a large cup. He pushed a button and put a cap on it and charged me $3.93. The board said $2.50 small/$3 but I didn't say anything. Got to the car and opened the lid to see it was only 75% full. No energy to go back in and ask about lack of contents and price difference. We wondered about the health department rating as it didn't seem very clean. I ordered a quinoa bowl which was in a tin container half filled and that's after I paid extra for some lettuce. Meager amount of toppings. Very overpriced for what I received. My daughter got the chicken bbq sandwich that had mustard on it. It sounded fancy but it was just what looked like white bread and some chicken with bbq sauce and mustard. we just laughed as it looked like something we could just make at home. Not impressed. All the food was very good which is why I am giving it 3 stars BUT, there was one thing I was not happy about. We ordered two of the "you pick two" combos for $6.99 each. We ordered, picked up our food, and went to the register to pay. She told us that it was $22 something dollars. When I asked about the price ($7 plus $7 =$14 not $22). She then said that the extra was because of the salmon. The menu clearly says "any soup and any salad for $6.99". I feel that this is very misleading. Either the lady at the register charged me for something wrong or else this is just plain false advertising. Either way, the girl at the register didnt offer any assistance when I questioned the price. Kind of feel gypped. read more

After a race in northern Virginia, I headed back toward Baltimore and was starving since the post-race food was limited to Celiacs like me. fortunately, I found Greens and Grains Cafe. The menu offered lots of interesting options for a quick bite. I chose the Napa veggie sandwich that came on potato bread. It included avocado, black beans, tomato, corn, cilantro, red onion and dressing. I really enjoyed it and the atmosphere in the place was very pleasant. I kind of wished I had stopped by during a busier time to get the real vibe but it was fine. While the service was terrific and the food tasty, I did think the prices were a little high for just a small sandwich. That said, if I ever find myself hungry again in Harrisonburg, I'll stop by - and try out one of the bowls, which hopefully will be more filling and cost effective. read more

There are so many things wrong with this place I don't even know where to start. Sometimes the food is good, so I always go through this cycle of thinking, "it's been a long time since I've been there, maybe things are better now." So I go and inevitably end up regretting it, yet again. This last time, we called ahead and ordered two "you pick 2" soup + sandwich combos. You would think that this would reduce waiting time, but not really. When we got there, there was only one table of people already eating and one person in the process of ordering at the counter. There was one girl behind the counter making the customer's order at an absolute snail's pace. Now I get that this was clearly not a busy time of day and didn't warrant a lot of workers, but I'm not sure why you would leave the new girl alone by herself on the floor. (Actually, I just assume she was new because I can't see any other reason why anyone could be moving that slowly. If she was new I definitely want to cut her some slack, but still; the manager shouldn't be assigning brand new people to the floor by themselves. If she's not new... I don't even know what to say.) At one point, another worker actually came out from the back, glanced around at us and didn't acknowledge us at all because clearly he couldn't be bothered by customers, and then disappeared into the back. We waited for almost 15 minutes just for someone to ask what we wanted, and we said we were there to pick up our order. Thank goodness we actually called ahead, because if I'd had to stand there and watch her spend another fifteen minutes making our order, I would have been so frustrated. Thankfully, the order was actually mostly ready, and she gathered it for us and brought a very small bag to the register. Then she rang us up for almost $30 (I don't understand how two $7.99 you pick twos came out to almost $30.) We then stood there, waiting for what we assumed would be the rest of the food for another 5 minutes, while she was off doing something. Then she finally looks over, in a slow daze as though she was just noticing us still there, and goes, "oh, you have all of your food, you can go." It was an hour from when we placed our order to when we left with our very small $30 bag of food, only to go home and look at what was inside and feel utterly ripped off. The sandwiches were absolutely TINY (I think there was maybe six bites total?) and the tiny little soup bowl was MAYBE 1/2 full (photos included -- this was how empty the cups were when we opened them.) The baby sized sandwich tasted good, but you are absolutely crazy to charge $15 for this and a half empty soup cup that is already tiny. On top of that, the soup (mushroom brie) could have been SO GOOD except for the fact that it felt like they dumped ten cups of salt into it. It was like drinking liquid salt. I think it was made for people who have lost their sense of taste. Absolutely gross. We have learned our lesson -- we are not coming here again. This is not an isolated incident -- the service is ALWAYS painfully slow here, this one just happened to be one of the worst. If you like wasting your money on six bites and a gulp of over oversalted food, this is the spot for you. read more

Update... we called first and went back for dinner. The food was ok. We both did the soup and salad combo with the crab bisque. It was good, but lukewarm. Also, for a place that sells itself as an upscale cafe, I would have expected something more than the prepackaged crackers one gets at a diner. The salad portion was so - so. Nothing I couldn't easily have done from a grocery store. The service was horrible. I asked the young college aged girl when they open and she said 9 am per the sign. When I inquired about today, she said, "yep, 9." The whole time she just gave one word answers and grunted at us. Speculation, but I wonder if she was at a party last night, hung over and missed opening because she seemed disgusted we were there and visibly huffed, I might add, when I bothered her with a question. THAT could've easily been eliminated if they labeled their viewable salad bar, or at least had a list of the ingredients. I was super impressed however with their choice of drinks, which probably bumped the rating up to a 3 instead of a 2 with the service. Overall, so so at best. Won't go out of our way to go back. End update. Morning review below... About a month ago we kicked off a major healthy eating initiative. The hardest part was doing so on the road as we travel weekly for work. When we arrived in Harrisonburg, we were excited to see a listing for this place as it fit right in to "clean" eating. Although it was it of the way, we drove here, arriving at 10:05 as the site said they opened at 10. Their hours if operation sign had them listed as opening at 7, and yet another sign mentioned spring break hours of opening at 9. None of that mattered however as the lights were off, the doors locked and all the serving trays we could see from the window were empty. We tried calling, only to get a generic message starting they were closed and too try again later... we might, but we'll be damn sure we speak to someone before driving here again. What an unprofessional disappointment, but a gain for another establishment that dud get our money. read more

My family and I have ordered here several times. Their sandwiches are amazing. I have four kids, ages 11 to 14. Everyone gets something that they love. Their salads are absolutely fantastic and very filling. I have celiac. The best thing about Greens and Grains is that they have so many options for me. I can have anything on their menu but use lettuce instead of bread. This is place is a dream for people like me with dietary restrictions or people who just want to eat healthy.
