Stopped here on the way back from Humpback Rocks. We googled and here we landed. What a wonderful little place almost in the middle of nowhere. Our barista was so amiable. She answered all our questions about this small but booming town. She also made great iced coffee recommendations on this hot summer day. Jeez Having returned from Europe, my eyes have been further opened to the scams being run by local Charlottesville coffee shops. Grit is one of the worst offenders. With decent, but not artisanal coffee, prices are ridiculous. If you're okay with paying a premium for basic coffee, be my guest. I don't recommend it. read more

Waited over 20 minutes for a mediocre cold brew. The employees here lack any sense of enthusiasm/passion for what they're doing. Literally just going through the motions. I watched one employee stand to the side scrolling her phone while the other slowly made peoples coffees one at a time. I was actually surprised it was possible to make coffee as slow as they did. On top of that the flavor profile of their coffee is pretty lackluster. Out of the three coffee shops in Crozet. Their coffee is definitely the worst. read more

Worst service I have ever received. I was the first to order and the last to receive. The one employee was extremely rude and screamed at me and my inlaws for no reason. Not to mention, I watched the 2 sweaty employees run their hands through their greasy looking shaggy hair to get it out of their faces and then continue to touch the tops of everyone's drink without washing their hands. Waited over 30 min for a small, half full cup of something that didn't even resemble what I had ordered. No stars, but the only way to leave a review is to add at least one. Wish I would have read the reviews before going in, it seems I'm not the only one this has happened to at this location. It's a shame, the one in cville has always been exceptional. $$$$$ Expensive. Highest price I ever paid for a medium Latte with extra shot skim milk $8.50+. Out of menu items and day old pastries. Baristas are not trained and produced a watery Latte. Barista soggied and hand slimed my drink as they struggled to put a lid on my coffee cup. I need my coffee so I drank 1/2 the Latte driving to Mudhouse. It's tough to watch a place go out of business. But, hopeful for new management. read more

Cheaper lattes/breves, but taste excellent and less crowded than the downtown Crozet coffee shops. I could see myself coming here to study or just hang out. I love that they added a kid's area, so I can bring my son with me while I enjoy my favorite drink. I like that it's a private little nook, with an easel and chalk, books and wooden toys. I usually make my own coffee at home, but I think having an area for kids will make me want to spend and explore my neighborhood and support businesses. So far, this is my favorite Grit location. No issues finding a parking spot. I live in the area and this is a very friendly and peaceful neighborhood. read more

This location is in the antiseptic "urban core" of the Old Trail development, but one of the nice things about being in the middle of nowhere (or, in the middle of a dense and thriving yet still relaxed and walkable neighborhood, as the developers would have us believe) is that space is easier to come by, and the Crozet location is big and comfortable. There is a play area in one corner with books and toys for the littles, and rows of laptop-friendly seating all the way on the other side, for those who need to work away from the kids' noise. Some soft seating as well. The food, drinks, and service are neither noticeably better or worse than the Cville locations, which I think are all pretty good and a bit overpriced, so the main advantage to this location is space to spread out. And it's cleaner and less rickety than the one on the Corner. We came here on a beautiful autumn afternoon after a walk to have a light lunch, and it was perfect. The views of the foothills out the window are pretty amazing. I can almost see why people would move to this Pleasantville-inspired place for the views. read more

This place is fantastic and is quickly becoming my favorite coffee spot in C'Ville/ Crozet. I love the light, clean and cozy atmosphere. The service is always friendly, and after being here over five times now, I've never been disappointed by the food or coffee I have ordered. I'm always loving the Quiche of the day with an iced coffee. The number one thing I love about this place- you can get breakfast for under 5$. Sure it is just a sandwich or just a piece of quiche, but they are hearty servings and they are simple and delicious. Sometimes you just need a little simple in your life. I think that's how I'd describe this place. Simple, delicious, good quality coffee and food. Definitely try it out! read more

I've been to Grit Coffee-Crozet a few times because I work in the area. Both times, I've found myself very disappointed by the quality of the coffee. I've ordered both regular and decaf coffee and both left something to be desired. Next time I want coffee, I will drive a little further and go to Mudhouse. read more

Disappointing compared to their downtown locations, as well as the local competition. I live only a block from the Crozet location, and I enjoy their coffee drinks. However, food options are almost non-existent. They have excellent desert items, but they are never available before 9:30AM (they open at 7AM). When they do arrive, they sell out fast, so they rarely have much of anything after 12 noon. Other food items are very limited, compared to the downtown location. It is much easier for my to drive or bike to the MudHouse or to Greenhouse Cafe for actual food. Too bad -- they could attract a lot of customers away from MudHouse and Greenhouse if they made a better effort in actually having something to sell. read more

I usually end up spending hours here with one of my friends. I tend to order their tea which is very good (especially the Mediterranean Mint). My friend ordered their avocado toast which also looked delicious. They have rearranged the chairs so the most comfortable chairs to sit in are not that conducive for conversation (spread too far apart). I also have been visiting when it has been cold recently and it was chilly inside. The fireplace is there, but there was no fire lit. Overall though good coffee shop and of the coffee shops in Crozet it certainly has the best views of the mountains. read more

When my wife and I stopped in for lunch recently, we got excellent service from the friendly staff. My wife loved her coffee, spinach salad, and black bean hummus wrap, and I was pleasantly surprised by my gooey, crunchy, perfectly grilled ham and cheese sandwich, which balanced a tang of spicy mustard with the sweetness of caramelized onions. It's perhaps a touch on the pricey side, but I still found Grit impressive and its food tasty. We'll be back. read more

There was no one in line in front of me and I ordered a Mocha. I proceeded to sit down and start work on my laptop. After 15 minutes, I realized multiple people were getting their orders except me. I asked the guy behind the counter if he forgot about my drink. He apologized, took a piece of paper out of the garbage and gave it to the girl who was making drinks. I sit down again, and notice 3 more people have received their orders. So I ask again about my Mocha. They apologize again and finally make my drink after 30 minutes of waiting...They didn't even offer me a refund for the inconvenience. And when you pay with a debit or credit card, the first screen asks for a tip. So, yes, I tipped these people, waited 30 minutes and got a sub par Mocha. I wish there was a Starbucks around here... read more

Excellent brunch omelette. Husband said biscuits and gravy is one of best he's ever had. Mocha was great and not overly sweet. Gouda grits were excellent. Plus the service was great. You can see they take pride in their food and service. read more

This place was so cute. I was in town for a wedding and needed somewhere to do my work. The staff is very friendly and their music is great (not so loud that you can't get anything done and a chill sound). I got an iced coffee, an egg sandwich, and an iced tea. All delicious. It had a lot of seating room and outlets for laptops. Also good wifi connection. I would recommend this spot if you find yourself in Crozet and are in need of a caffeine fix. read more

They kicked me out again for talking to loud I left my back pack in and the dude with the goteee is so mean me and my friends were pissed after that I ne'er got to order ....some of the people there are nice the others are mean and rude ....I'm super cold and no way to get in .....I love this place but the people are rude .........I give this place 1 star ........they report this in never coming here AGAIN....... read more

Coffee was a good cold brew. Place was empty except a group with children. They were way too loud to enjoy myself.

Delicious quiche, pastries, and chai lattes, and love that they have almond milk too. We enjoyed the cozy atmosphere and fireplace. Next time we want to try the grilled goat cheese sandwich. read more

Staff are always friendly and although transition of new owners was a bit difficult (maybe why some bad review came up) they have worked out lots of kinks, started a new menu (so good) and have Albemarle Baking Company delivering baked goods. Well in their way and I love it here. read more

Best lattes in Crozet, and the only place to get iced lattes that first steams the milk to fluff it up. It makes a huge difference. The chocolate granola bars are a hit with everyone in the family. And we love the kid toy area. It's our go to coffee shop. read more

When there is a Mudhouse within 100 miles, much less 2 miles, why would anyone go to Grit? The name alone is gross - Grit - the things that sets your teeth on edge when you find it in your food. (But please order food here, sure it doesn't have grit in it??) Or maybe it is the annoying thing in your swimsuit after a day at the beach. gritS I could understand. Grit is nasty. The tea is ok, but a pot of TWICE the price of Mudhouse! Really? No tray, they hand you a flaming hot pot. Make sure you ask for a cup - they don't offer one. And when you want to remove the leaves....where are you suppose to put it? On the table? No, get up and go ask for a plate or something. Seriously! Coffee? Again, go to Mudhouse if you want good coffee. Food, no clue. Allergic to wheat, eggs, and nuts. So that leaves an arugula salad. I just wasn't in the mood for another plain old house salad. May be the best in the world. But my hand is burned from the tea pot, so not in the mood to risk it. Heard the sandwiches are good. They even removed the nice sitting area by the fireplace. It just doesn't feel very welcoming anymore. So, since Trail Side is gone ( they were great!) and Mudhouse is so close, this will be the first and last experience with this kind of grit. So disappointed to hear that they will stop serving brunch on the weekends :( We always stopped by at least once a weekend for the food. The biscuits and gravy + gouda grits were one of my favorite brunch meals in Crozet (and Charlottesville). I hope whoever created the menu will be opening up their own brunch spot elsewhere--Crozet definitely needs it! I was in the other day having a fine cup of coffee when a horde of middle schoolers came in and ran amok. They were being rude and loud and disrespectful. The servers kicked them out with due cause. I think there should be a rule that no kids under 15 should be allowed in without their parents supervision. On the other hand, parents should teach their kids how to behave in a restaurant.
