This is the kind of place you want to find when you're on a road trip! The store itself is old-school with so much great stuff. Local nuts, seasonings, candies, snacks and a bologna and cheese sandwich for $1.00?!?! (The sandwich was super simple and super delicious!!!!) The Highway signs got me for sure and I'm glad I stopped here. Super clean bathrooms and super great prices for Carhart and other great outdoor clothing. Everyone I encountered was also super nice. Don't pass this place up! If you are driving anywhere near here, be sure to stop in!!! read more

We found this place to be pretty neat! This place has been around since the late 1800's, and a whole slew of Crane family members,, have kept this place going thru the years. Though the place has plenty of product jam packed all thru the place, the place is pretty neat and clean. Are you a Carhartt fan? They sure appeared to have plenty of Carhartt gear. This place seemed to sell a bit of everything. They had a very unique nut and bolt cabinet - that no doubt - it has to be a original store fixture. Neat neat neat, this item was. Now, this place I noticed, sells sandwiches like crazy. Well yeah sure; I had to try one. I went with a bologna and mustard sandwich in white bread. And I hope you like white bread - it's the only bread they serve their sandwiches with! Now, the bologna wasn't the greatest by any means. But they do have other meats to choose from. But, it was just flat out fun, to get a sandwich made at this place - and yes - we ate them in the front porch of the general store. This kind of place doesn't exist much around the US. It's only a mile off Interstate 70. Take a moment and enjoy a piece of yester-year. read more

Wow. Crane's has modern merchandise but harkens to an earlier era--like more than 125 years ago. This old time general store is even heated with an antique, wood fired iron stove behind the cash register. Some of the store's merchandise displays and fixtures look like they're original. Antique children's riding toys hang from the ceiling. Packed among its many nooks are all sorts of merchandise from groceries to hardware to live bait to outdoor clothing to made to order sandwiches to more. Name a store category and there's probably a section. Or sections. Boots, shoes, and clothing--for example--are scattered around the store with seemingly little organization. A short jaunt off Interstate 70, Crane's is worth making a little diversion to ramble its packed and crammed aisles. Next door is Crane's restaurant--Marlene's--and a small museum that provides more interesting curiosities. read more

My first time visiting Cranes was last year and we had a "baby parade." It is a jammed packed store with all kinds of good finds! My husband and I always think we will do some holiday shopping when we go, but this time we only found stuff for the family! They have big name brands which is a plus! We always walk around the store then get a sandwich before we leave! Before leaving, make sure you check out the building next door for the sale items! read more

I was in need of some petrol for my work trip. This hidden gem is a little off the main highway but it was more than I could have asked for! The price of gas was reasonable, the store was everything! Natural wood floors, all the items that you could need, even boots and belts! The staff was so nice and the restrooms were clean. Now that I know this place is on my way, I will make this the preferred stop on my journeys because supporting a local business and having all the greatest conveniences of a large stop with better staff and less traffic is always a 10/10 in my book! read more

We've driven past the billboard for Crane's for many years. So happy we finally stopped to visit. I don't know how long it's been around, but you'll feel like you stepped back in time. There are several rooms--all jammed with organized, quality merchandise (a wide variety). I especially liked all the different Pendleton items. My husband and I each ordered a sandwich (legendary preparation speed and price of $2.00 each which includes tax). I ordered the buffalo chicken with mayo - fab. Staff is just great - super helpful, friendly and and looks like manage to have a lot of fun while they work. read more

Ok hands down if you need something they probably have it but I stopped here for the sammie, yes bologna on white bread with American cheese. They also have ham, roasted beast and all the other delicious deli meat you would expect. Sandwiches or by the pound. Back to the review, super friendly employees. Well..this was an interesting detour! The signs from the highway pulled us in: "Boots, Bullets, Britches, Bologna" - I mean, how could we not make a pit stop, lol? This is a cute and tiny store, basically in the middle of nowhere. They do in fact have everything the sign suggested plus lots of other things from camping gear to home made candies. Need some pickled eggs, novelty BBQ sauce, hunting supplies, a water proof bag, ammo, some funny socks, or a pound of Bologna? They've got you covered! They also have a small selection of meat & cheese sandwiches (and even a PB&J) for $1 - yes, $1! Imagine this picture..a few folks sitting on metal rockers on the covered porch, eating Bologna sandwiches on white bread and sipping a root beer..(this actually happened) and you begin to get the idea behind this little store. Keep in mind that you're in the country, home to many conservative types - so don't let that be a shocker. I'm happy we stopped and am thoroughly enjoying my hat. :) read more

After buying a sandwich for $1, I went back and got some to take home with me. They don't even ask what kind of bread... You get WHITE. You get to choose your cheese and condiment. We stumbled upon this place for a bathroom break--- what a great find! The space is pretty cramped, but has so many items for sale. It's a great place for a rest stop and most importantly, they have $2 sandwiches. You get 1 meat and 1 cheese on white bread with mayo, mustard, or honey mustard. There are large selections of meat and cheese. It's a simple sandwich, but just what we needed on our road trip. You can't get anything better for $2. read more

One of the many cool things about road trips is stumbling across country stores that have been around for ages and sell everything you can imagine. Over generations, they've helped sustain and connect communities. There are fewer and fewer of them nowadays vs. chains. This one in Missouri started in 1889 and the current location was built in 1926. It sells deli sandwiches made to order, all sorts of other food and drink, souvenirs, live bait, feed, guns and ammo, endless camping and hiking gear, outdoors and farm clothing and shoes, plumbing and auto supplies and more. Also, what increasingly seems like a throwback, print newspapers. Plus, they keep their restrooms spotless. With friendly, helpful folks running the store, long may they thrive. Talk about a true quaint country store! I stumbled upon this spot on my way back from Callaway for some well deserved food. This spot has everything from antiques to $2 sandwhiches to go to sit-down diner food with amazing cobbler desserts! While the service was a little slow (I think literally ran by a pair of grandmothers), they were still so charming and helpful. They kept us smiling and happy the entire time. We could also gaze upon the vast china collection in the cabinets or shop around the store or fill up on gas outside while we waited. You just don't find gems like this anymore these days - very authentic and not at all a schtick. If you're ever in the area - definitely stop by here! read more

Saw the billboards along Interstate 70 while passing through Missouri where exits seem to be about 50 miles apart. Unfortunately we missed the exit but did stop on the way back home. Great general store with just about anything one might need. Highly recommend stopping here if you are passing through Missouri on I-70. read more

This place is the definition of "hidden gem." This store has everything from benchmark knives to carhart everything. Grab you some cheap fresh sliced deli meat sandwiches and have a seat on the front porch chairs. I recommend the ghost pepper cheese if you like some heat. read more

Very friendly staff, limited groceries, local products, made to order sandwiches, "a big pot belly stove" in the middle of everything putting out a cozy heat, hunting and fishing gear and camo! Fantastic selections of footwear, clothing, flashlights, snacks, and unusual items. Great prices - seriously, check their workboot prices against online stores - they have most of not all beat! AND you can get a sandwich for $2 - it's a long tradition at this place. Big old country wood burning stove keeps the place warm. Just off I-70 at the Williamsburg Exit in Central Missouri. Check them out, you'll be glad you did. Oh, almost forgot to mention the incredible antiques, arrowheads, and relics that are stuck EVERYWHERE in this place. The food is just okay. Nothing to get too excited about. Only chips available with sandwiches, that are basic. Good Chile. Breakfast is ok. Pancakes are too thick. So fun to go in and see all the antiques crammed in this old country store. Grab a soda from the old time Coca Cola cooler you lift the lid on and reach into for your bottle of soda. So much stuff to look at and they seemed to have everything, including a snap-on hood for my Carhartt jacket that even Bass Pro didn't have. :-) very friendly folks and gladly told us about the store (started in 1926).
