Pretty disappointed in this experience. Came in about 1pm and they were out of tuna salad- ok, fair enough. But then we ordered the caprese and the Cuban. The caprese was a mess. The sauce + grilled onions made for a wet mess that was nearly impossible to eat on top of the raw spinach. The Cuban was missing the pork tenderloin, which was the primary ingredient. When we took it back the counter, they said "yeah- we ran out of pork about 20 minutes ago" but they didn't offer another option, a discount, or even tell us ahead of time. The staff on duty are all excellent, courteous, friendly, helpful and don't try to oversell. The Ice Cream deserves its own paragraph. If you don't do anything else, go there for the ice cream. Rich, creamy, a wide variety of flavored that go through a rotation. Eventually, you will see all their choices. Whatever they have at the ready, it's worth trying. Im from Texas and so far the food has been underwhelming with a few exceptions and this is one of them! The food here is awesome. The Duke and the caprese as well as every other thing I have eaten was delicious. I dont like potato chips and these are the best. They are homemade and are seasoned perfectly and fried perfectly. Not greasy at all. Also they are nicer here! I have a place in a small seasonal town in Texas. People are very welcoming there even to tourists. Many Hermann businesses remind me of the people in movies shuttering their windows when outsiders come. Stopped here for ice cream. Friendly, helpful staff answered questions and aided our selections of high quality ice cream. There's not an overly large menu of ice cream. However, beside standards like vanilla and chocolate there were wonderfully delightful options like a mocha chocolate with nuts. It--and the vanilla--were sinfully rich. TL:DR - Great spot for sandwiches (didn't try the ice cream). Chips have an amazing seasoning on them. Cheddar/jalapeno tots are a pass. Covid pre-cautions are minimal. Par for the town though. Second time in here while visiting. Super super solid place to eat. It says deli and custard, but it's really an ice-cream shop that happens to sell a few sandwiches. The sandwiches are not to be slept on though. Everything I've gotten here has always been really good and never disappointed. Don't come in expecting anything fancy, and you'll be happy when you leave. I got the half duke sandwich (roast beef) and was pleasantly surprised how good it was. If you're hungry, definitely get the whole. The small is a bit smaller than a 6in from subway. The chips were also surprisingly good. Half lay's original and half kettle chip, it's like a slightly more oily kettle chip with a little less crunch, but is dusted an some magic seasoning powder that I can only describe as resembling sour-cream and onion powder. We also got the cheese and jalapeno tots. Just know that is NOT tater tots with nacho cheese on top with sliced jalapenos. It's potato mash mixed with cheese and jalapeno bits then fried into little nuggets. The potato texture wasn't my fave. So I'd probably skip this in the future. During covid, they've spread out and blocked a few tables. Can't remember if they're requiring customers wear masks or not, but customers were definitely not wearing masks (even when just looking at ice-cream flavors), nor did staff ask them to. Nice selection of bottled drinks, My half Cuban sandwich was filling. I am used to my Cuban sandwich being a pressed sandwich with a lot less sauce but it was a decent interpretation. I still prefer the pressed version personally. My husband had the special which was a burger with smoked fries. He said it was really good. Cute atmosphere. My only complaint was the annoying flies that kept attacking me my whole meal...ugh!!! (Get some fly lights! It was not pleasant.) Was simple and just as expected. Lots of ice cream options and you get plenty for your money. Fiancé had two scoops and had to bring one home. I had a small concrete. Not a good place to go AT ALL. I had got there about 5 hours before they closed and were greeted with nothing but rudeness. I said I wanted the moose tracks ice cream in a cone and saw there was just some residue left assuming they weren't completely out for the day because they had opened not long ago at all, but instead they just scraped out what they could which barely gave me anything!! I thought for sure they had to be joking so I asked if the lady could get more and she said that they were completely out for the day very rudely. After that I didn't know what to think and to top it off the ice cream was gross. Afterwards I had walked by again to see if they really were out of moose tracks or if she was just lying and sure enough they had brought out a whole new thing of it out. Great affordable place to grab a bite to eat in a town where fine dining is more abundant than cheap. (I love that by the way.... who wants to travel to a town filled with all the same chain places as back home?) This deli is a good example of small town charm. The young lady behind the counter was friendly and happy and quickly served up the roast beef sub my husband and I decided to split. The homemade potato chips are DELICIOUS!! Wow! The bread the sub was served on was fresh and buttery flavored. All the ingredients were fresh and we quite enjoyed it. We were told by that lady behind the counter that they had just re-opened after a two week closure to remodel. I'm not sure what was done, but the place is still really plain inside. I hope they have plans to put up some artwork and add some color to the tables, whether by table cloth or fresh flowers or.... it needs a little "something" so it doesn't feel so sterile in there. Came here while on vacation. Burger was overcooked, but more disturbing was the fact that the staff refused to use gloves while handling food in plain sight of the guests. When my wife and I come back to Hermann to visit my family, this is always a place we stop at while in town. Nothing like getting a cone, concrete, or shake to go and walk around a scenic small town in the summer. While they do offer dining items, I've never actually gotten any of those. We just go for the frozen custard. Cones, sundaes, etc, all the standard items of an ice cream shop. Just avoid the smoothies; no real fruit used in those. read more

Great sandwiches, ice cream, service, a step back in time with the pinball machine, etc. I really enjoy this place's sandwiches. They have healthy options such as turkey , but also have hamburgers, fries, and so on. They have shakes, Malts, ice cream cones, sundaes, concretes, and so on. If you want chocolate, they'll have it, but if you desire a Reese's pieces concrete, they'll do that as well. Homemade chips, great deli sandwiches.
