Don't be put-off by the fact that you have to drive through Richmond to get here. The Pavillion is actually the old Ford Manufacturing facility, and the inside is a giant, airy and well-lit warehouse. We came to watch Roller Derby (which is awesome, by the way!) but couldn't help but keep commenting on the beautiful light and shadows made in the building, as well as the awesome bay view. This is definitely a cool place, and I'll be keeping an eye out for other activities held here. read more

Sent to an event here yesterday called Junk in the Trunk. Great location and huge event space with plenty of parking which is a huge plus. I love that this place sits right on the wAter. The staff was aroubd and cleaning throughout the event which was also great and the bathrooms were very clean with plenty of stalls even for this large event. read more

Had a great and awesome night at the roller derby like always. But this bar inside the venue? It's like every bar tenders don't even want to be there. The only reason people even spend money here is because it's the only place to get liquor inside the venue during bouts now. I would almost guarantee if there was a competitor, cobwebs would start to grow on the beer taps. I don't even buy water from this place anymore. But here's the kicker from last night to cause me to write this review. The bar ran out of draft beer. So there solution was to empty 12oz bottles of beer into the 16oz cups and still charge people the full $6 price? That's ridiculous! And when I brought this situation up to them all I got was their crappy attitude!!! B. A. D. needs to run the liquir/beer again. I'm sure we can get fans/skaters to volunteers to help out just to get ride of this bar... read more

This was the venue for the Yelp Sunset Showdown last night. I'm on their events mailing last but this was the first time I'd been inside. I was first intrigued when I read Ligaya's review in February 2010. When I went to reread it this morning to refresh my memory of the history I couldn't find it. I read Jana's paen to the Craneway and Monica's excellent historical summation, but I couldn't find Ligaya's review. I checked the filtered reviews and voilá! There it was. WTF, Yelp? You filter a review written by your own East Bay CM at the time?? I expect you guys to be significantly less mindless than the TSA. As for the Craneway Pavilion, it is glorious, beautifully sited overlooking the Bay w/ windowed walls to drink in the views. Alan thinks it's even bigger than a football field. I can't add anything to the excellent reviews written by Ligaya, Jana and Monica. Do read them to get the history of this place. I look forward to returning for a concert or other event, maybe even the July 4th bash Jana mentioned. What a place to watch fireworks! Even better than my deck. read more

Recently came to Craneway Pavilion for the 1st time to see BJORK Thanks to previous reviews, I knew not to park in their lots but instead scored some nearby street parking.....made the hassle of leaving that much easier & quicker & helped to keep the lovely evening, well, lovely The facility is absolutely gorgeous & seeing the sunset while looking out at the skyline of the best city on Earth.....I gush Walking in was non-eventful, ticket quickly scanned. Drinky lines went really quickly & both cash / credit cards were taken The sound was really good - not too loud but got the point across. No distortion, sightlines were as expected given we're in a warehouse We had VIP seats & even though we were relatively late arrivers & got in the back, we still had excellent views of the stage ( although ducking / weaving required ) Leaving was equally as enjoyable - people letting each other out, no one crowding the sidewalks or looking to mow you down - as we've all experienced at other venues Looking forward to coming back for sure! read more

Been to the Craneway Pavilion three times and realized that it has escaped my review. It's located off 580 at the end of Harbor Way South next to the Bay. The Pavilion was a building that was part of the former Ford Manufacturing plant with beautiful views of the Bay. My visit to the Pavilion was when Yelp held a large party event there. The open warehouse-like building was perfect for a large event. Since that event, I've been to several East Bay home and garden shows here as well. Also, at the back of the Craneway Pavilion is a little known museum, the Rosie the Riveter Museum, which is operated by the US National Park Service. Came here for a gymnastics meet. Breathtaking views! Great spacious venue! While driving through, the neighborhood definitely looks a little sketchy, but once you arrive, you feel like it's not too bad. Lots of parking. read more

Yay for the Craneway! What a perfect venue. It's a true gem! It was the former Ford Assembly Plant. We attended the annual THIRD of July program and Fireworks show! (Yes THIRD of July--a Richmond treadition) The Oakland East Bay Symphony performed playing patriotic songs-- what fun! We've been to many events here including: A Green car fesival---got to drive several hybrid /electric vehicles including the Leaf and the latest Priuses. Homefront Festival--celebrating the Rosies the Riveters, and Richmond's contribution to the WW II effort. Memorial to George Yoshida--- musician, teacher, principal, and extraordinary human Other events which I can't recall. The Craneway also has held: Music concerts including Bjork, Elvis Costello Beer and Chocolate Festivals Roller Derby And this year KPFA will be having their annual Holiday Crafts Fair on Dec 20 & 21st Yay! So happy that it is returning to the East Bay The Craneway is huge, sunny with fantastic view of the Bay. It's located next to the Rosie the Rivetor Museum! The only bad thing I can say is that the signage for getting there is very poor. read more

This wonderful space goes above and beyond its intended purpose. Its historical value combined with its excellent space for mammoth parties makes it a one-of-a-kind venue in the East Bay. The long, super spacious room use to be a Ford production plant before serving as a place to build war parts during WWII. Today it is a simple, clean space with plenty of light and accessibility. The windows along the water afford an excellent view of the bay and San Francisco in the distance. I was honored to participate in Yelp's "Sunset Showdown" event, the largest open party in the company's history with nearly 4000 people in attendance! It was only once the room was filled with energy and activity that I discovered just how incredible the Craneway is. read more

This review is for the 3rd Annual Chocolate & Beer Festival 2/11/12 Local Chocolatiers, breweries and bands raising money for a good cause. First I want to say a big Thank you to Nique for promoting another great event! And many Thanks to Yelp East Bay @ Twitter for awarding me free tickets! The venue for this event was spectacular! I have never seen such a place! I was in awe as I tried to take in all in. The industrial architecture, the waterfront location,the amazing views of the Bay, the soaring interior...all of it was breath-taking! My husband & I arrived around 2:30pm and found an extremely long line outside the entrance. The line was completely confusing as most already had tickets in-hand and some needed to purchase tickets. After about 1/2 hour, we managed our way to the correct area to find another long line to get checked-in. There were 4 lines once you past the entrance. 1 for Eventbrite, 1 for Living Social, 1 for Google and 1 for those who didn't have tickets. Then lastly another line to show your ID that you are 21 and over. Then we enter to find more longer lines to actual taste the Beer & Chocolate. Five stars for the concept overall of pairing Beer with Chocolate. Ingenious! {I didn't get to taste the beer since I am preggo} My hubby enjoyed his favorite ales and I sampled a few cocoas. Had it been more organized, I think it could of gone a lot better. A few people that I met all agreed on one thing; we wished that we got a little more for our buck. Although I couldn't complain since my tickets were free. I felt really bad for all those people that waited in those super long lines after we left because all the samples had run out. There were way too many people and it wasn't fair to those that waited when the samples ran out by 4:00 and the event goes until 6:00 read more

This review is a little belated but whatever. After attending Yelps Sunset Showdown it needs to be noted what a great event space this location is. Richmond seriously has these little hidden gems and they need to be recognized and utilized. The view of the water, the boats, even the color of the building just make this place from the outside shine. I got some amazingly lit photos of my sister with the water and boat behind her. The interior was perfect for a stage and table top trade show like spots for vendors. As a consummate trade show event attendee all over the bay area, this place is top notch. Bathrooms were large and not once did I stand in line. Even with the equal amounts of women and men there wasn't a line. Now that says something. I saw the Ferry drop off location but did not take the ferry. We did arrive by town car and there was plenty of room for either party bus, limo or town car to drop guests off in hi style. Our driver was also able to find ample parking. He didn't believe us that this place existed but it did. When you pull up how can you not deny that is doesn't exist? Its giant. If you have an event coming up, you really need to exploit this location. Its one of the best Ive been to. read more

Painting a picture doesn't begin to do The Craneway Pavilion justice. The story behind the structure? Back in 1931, Ford opened its assembly plant right there in the heart of Richmond, at the Craneway Pavilion. Home to the esteemed model T, Craneway didn't just make its mark with the commercial automotive industry, only 10 years later, in 1941, Roosevelt retooled the space to build Jeeps and tanks for WWII. Flexing her wrench, Rosie the Riveter would later act as the poster child for women in factories and yes, she worked here. In the contemporary reincarnation, steel beams run overhead with colossal cranes dropping from the supports. The long, cold room floods with light from a sun on descent and the lapping of nearby waves beckons from just beyond. This is a setting. The Craneway Pavilion is no less technologically progressive today as it was building cars in 1931. A nod to its innovative past, there's 45,000 square feet of powered capabilities. From constructing a seemingly casual 10-foot TV dropping from the beams, to offering the upmost in A/V technology, there's nearly nothing impossible here when it comes to producing entertainment or sound. I was not expecting a rave when I came here to see Alesso in August. It was hot and extremely crowded near the stage. I didn't even try to get close and hung out on the outskirts. Security was extremely strict with what we could bring in. Caroline T. was forced to toss her expensive hand cream and hand sanitizer. Really?! What are we going to do? Ingest it?! Moisturize each other?! When we got past security, I REALLY needed to go to the bathroom. The girl's bathroom line was ridonkulous. Someone shouted that there were Port-a-potties outside so I made a mad dash to that area. There was literally a sea of people outside trying to get air, go to the bathroom, and walking aimlessly around. I had to bob and weave my way through, but everywhere I turned there was no line. It was just madness! I got fed up and went back inside to wait in the line that grew by 10+. I nearly peed in my pants! I found out later that there were plenty of vacant Port-a-potties in the back. You just had to shove your way through to get to them. Terribly organized! When I finally relived myself I was able to enjoy the music. No complaints about the sound quality, but again, I just stayed away from the crowd and didn't even catch a glimpse of Alesso. There was no seating whatsoever. I was expecting a little more from the venue. I thought it was going to be more upscale, but it just reminds me of a warehouse. Meh indeed. read more

What a terrific venue! I came for a Yelp Elite Event and a Derby rollerskating event. I love the super high ceilings that let in light. The glass windows that surround the venue also shows off the beautiful sea water of the bay. It's cold outside and breezy because of the water front, but you can't deny the view is gorgeous. Picture worthy! Parking lot and plenty of street parking all around. Also there is a restaurant, "Assemble" right there around the back as well. read more

I attended a White Attire party here a couple of weekends ago, hosted by a 3rd party company. The place was huge,and the water view was to die for. The place was packed, and everyone was having a good time. Lots of street parking, and several parking lots in the area. Perfect place for a wedding, or formal event if needed. read more

This venue has a lot of potential. Huge space and capacity, high ceilings, good circulation, plenty of natural light and great views of the Bay. I helped out some friends in throwing an event here with over 1000 people. The bathrooms were clean, regularly serviced and functioning (hey, you never know!) and parking was ample, and $10 for secured parking is a lot cheaper than replacing a broken window and stolen belongings. The dancers and DJs were assured a secure room to change and store their things in but unfortunately the construction on that room wasn't done in time for our event, so we had a curtained off area surrounded by barricades, watched by one security person. Roger A.'s review below is regarding the security we hired for the event, not for the venue itself. Sorry to hear he had such a bad experience. OMFG the PIZZA! I'm unsure if that was made in-house, but that ish was bomb. They also served sno-cones, Jelly Bellys, lollipops and cookies. However, the bartenders really skimp on the alcohol, and that was provided by their in-house catering service. I've never had a more syrupy tasting cranberry vodka. read more

I came here for the chocolate and beer festival that was part of San Francisco Beer Week. Now granted, a festival featuring these two delicacies could have been held in a back alley in the Tenderloin and after a few high alcohol content beers I probably would have had a good time. That being said I'm glad this event was held at Craneway Pavilion. The place is HUGE! For this particular event the stage that was set up for live music actually cutoff half of the venue and there was still plenty of room. Another big plus is that Craneway Pavilion has spacious and extremely CLEAN bathrooms. There is a beautiful view overlooking the bay, which is great for photo ops. I'm not sure what kind of events are held here normally, but if something really caught my eye I would probably come back despite that fact this place is a little out of the way. I don't live near Richmond, and part of the reason I even came to this event was because they were providing a free shuttle to and from the Richmond BART station so I didn't have to do any driving. It sounds like from a couple of other reviews this place is popular for weddings, and I can defiantly see why. read more

My sister had her wedding here over the weekend. Granted we lucked out on the weather (perfect, clear, sunny day), this venue is spectacular all around. With breathtaking views of the bay and located right on the water, The Craneway has a fresh, airy, rustic feel. The space was really the aesthetic centerpiece of the event, as it is quite monumental. This building was the first Ford assembly plant in the west (in other words, it is HUGE). The space that was used for the wedding was not even close to the total square footage of the entire building. If you're searching for a modern, dare I say warehouse-like, event venue, look no more! read more

I was originally hesitant to go to The Craneway given the location (center of nowhere and in the middle of where you don't want to be, if that's possible) but I'm glad I went. I went there for a rock show called Cranestock and the place is great! Huge, huge venue but they cut the room into a third by a curtain that made the place seem more suited for the size of the event. Ample parking, but not too close. I asked about the restaurant next door (The Broiler) and the three couples I asked seem to loved it. I'll have to make time to try it next time. The Craneway has the possibility of being a fantastic venue for an area that needs something, anything, to be anything close to fantastic. read more

The Craneway Pavilion was a perfect host to Yelp's Sunset Showdown! The place is huge and not all stuffy or cramped! Beautiful views of the bay while indoor or out! With all the windows and high ceilings it was a fantastic place to have a crazy party! The Blue and Gold Ferry dock right there! You are able to walk around outside and breath in the fresh air and come back in through their many doors once you feel a bit wind blown. Plenty of parking. Plenty of filtered sunlight! Bathrooms are big and not all nasty like other huge places of this caliber. Easy to get to from freeway. read more

This place is AWESOME. I have attended 2 Roller Derby bouts here hosted by the Bay Area Derby Girls, and I was astounded. For California Derby, it cannot get much better. But as a venue in general, it has so many astounding qualities. There's a lot of rafters above the floors which have professional event lighting that are adjusted (so I would assume, witnessing the 4+ hour set up of a derby bout) specific to the event's needs... I could see a multitude of events being held here from artistic to theatrical, event to expo. In addition to it's lighting equipment, there are large sky-lights, and floor to ceiling windows in each section of the building... some of which border a gorgeous view of the San Francisco Bay, where you can view San Francisco, Alcatraz, the Oakland Bay Bridge, and Oakland itself. When you come to the Craneway Pavilion for an event you are already excited about, you get the extra reward of the beautiful scenery, the smell of the fresh ocean air, and the cool temperature. In addition to all that, the place is HUGE and parking is abundant. My ONLY complaint is that this venue branches off a main drag street which is extremely shady and I would question getting robbed or mugged. However, once inside the venues parking lot (during a highly frequented event or expo) I would feel very safe parking my car. It's not the best of neighborhoods it branches off of... but it is HUGE, beautiful, and safe (during event hours). read more

DO NOT PARK IN THE LOT FOR A BIG SHOW--------YOU WILL REGRET IT!!!! I saw Bjork here and loved the building, set-up, views, service, etc... This review is for the parking situation.. We decided to park in the lot which is located right next to the building, which seemed like a nice perk to only have to walk 2 minutes from car to venue. I always choose to not pay for parking but thought this would be nice. What a friggen mistake!!!!! It took us 1 1/2 hrs to get out of the lot due to their complete asanine system. We were in the second lot and that meant that we were not able to leave until every car was out of the 1st lot. Being in the second lot, you had to wait for the ONE AND ONLY attendant to clear the first lot before anyone else could go out. There were many people who had fallen asleep due to the long-long wait. If the place had additional lot exits and staff assisting, this would not have been a problem. The place is small and there should have been no need to wait 1 and a half hours!!! The parking space is only 1200 spots. I have gotten out of huge venues so much faster. Lesson learned: Don't pay for parking or take the bus!! It stops right in front of the venue! Been wanting to checkout the Craneway Pavillion for quite awhile and what perfect way to come and see the Bay Area women's roller derby event. Came here for a Yelp elite event hosted by our lovely East Bay Community Ambassador Nique. This place is pretty massive! Such a great venue to have everything in one roof (i.e. weddings, birthdays, corporate events, tradeshows, concerts... the list goes on!) In fact there was another event going on the other side of the Pavillion. The roller derby girls were bad ass and had such a great time watching them. Parking was pretty packed but was able to score a parking spot in the lot. It gets chilly since this place is right by the water so dress warm! read more

This venue is gorgeous! I came here for Audio on the Bay and I didn't think that a building with half of the walls being glass could carry sound and bass so well. Fortunately, the glass was mighty strong. When you enter, the stage was set up at the far back. To your right is an entire wall that looks out into the ocean with a large porch area for food and drinks. Essentially, you are given a gorgeous view of the outdoors with the comfort of being inside and celebrating. There are no seats but everyone sits down wherever they like. The staff is chill, maintained order, and didn't care what you did as long as you were being good and kept to yourself. read more

We looked at Craneway Pavilion as a possible wedding venue since we really admired the industrial architecture and beautiful location. I called to inquire and was put in touch with James Wilcox, their event manager / technical administrator. He was pleasant and accommodating on the phone, and we set up a time to tour the venue. Up until we toured the venue, James was in constant contact with us and we were hopeful that we had finally found the right place. We toured the venue with James, and it was pleasant and informative. James said he would follow up with more information like preferred vendors, more detailed pricing, etc. We were excited that we had potentially found a venue. And then....nothing. We were ghosted! It was honestly kind of shocking and unbelievable. We and our wedding planner reached out to James Wilcox repeatedly via phone, email, etc. and he did not answer us at all (!!!) Not even to say someone else had booked our dates or that something had come up. I honestly never expected to be ghosted by a "professional" in this capacity. My suspicion is that he got an offer for a more spendy corporate event on our dates and just didn't want our business (even though we had indicated we were open to multiple dates), or maybe he randomly hated us? Our tour was very normal, so I have no idea what could have happened. An explanation was necessary either way. Either way, this was extremely unprofessional, jarring, and disappointing. read more

This is a pretty breathtaking venue. If you're around during sunset, you might just get to experience some of the greatest magic that Richmond has to offer--the dawning of the evening, dressed in gold, velvet and blue. You get to see San Francisco wake up before your eyes. This stunning structural beast can barely hold all of its history, from its heyday as the craneway to the Ford's impressive plant to its later abandonment, and finally to the versatile space it is now. If you're lucky, you can attend an event here by taking a ferry over from the city, unloading from the dock, and then stepping in to whatever it is that you might fancy. If you're planning a huge event... you gotta check out this place. read more

I haven't dealt with this place for my own rental purposes, but I came here to attend the Yelp Sunset Showdown last weekend. The Craneway Pavillion was the perfect venue to host hoards of people. The indoor venue is huge with tall ceilings, so it never got stuffy - despite the sheer amount of people present. There was ample lighting, as the windows were from floor to ceiling. Plenty of doors to escape outside, where you are esentially on the dock of the bay. Parking is more than sufficient. Minus one star because, beautiful bay view aside, it's not the prettiest of venues. It's basically a warehouse. If you wanted to rent this place for something classier (i.e. wedding, prom, gala), you would definitely have to shell out money to find some nice decor and gobo lighting. However, it was perfect for the Yelp event, as well as any other event that needs to house a lot of people (and food, alcohol, etc). read more

I was here Saturday night to attend the SKILLS party etd. Fright. I've never been here before, so I didn't know what to expect from the venue. There was on-site parking with security ($10), so I definitely felt safer knowing that my car would be watched over. It had been raining, and we didn't get there until midnight so it was pretty cold. We bought our tix and went inside. The venue is pretty huge. At first, it didn't look like anybody was in it until we got to the back. The music and production were good for the most part. The lasers and lighting were nice as well. It wasn't a massive, so the place wasn't that packed. But that was nice since there was plenty of room to walk around and dance. Also, the ventilation was great because it never got too hot inside. The outdoor smoking area was cool. They had those portable heater lamps that we all flocked to. I wish there were seats inside the venue, because the only place to sit was alongside the walls or on the dance floor, hahaha. People were chill as usual. Security was not bad at all. Clean bathrooms are a plus. Christopher Lawrence killed his set, and ended the night on a good note! I'd really like to see this venue if it were split up into like 3 different rooms instead of just 1. Definitely a nice change from going all the way out to SF. read more

Great venue and pretty spacious! The area it is located in, Richmond is not so great... although, the fact that is near the harbor is pretty nice. Yelp had their first annual Sunset Showdown here and wow great spot to have it in! The place looks run down but once you go inside, the pavilion looks 10x better. It reminds me of a movie set or a place where you can have a photo shoot set up. The layout of the venue was pretty cool. In the center of the event was the stage where people performed. There were so many restaurants and wineries that came to offer what they specialize in. Even though the venue was quite large, it became pretty packed with fellow Yelpers wanting to get a sample of every restaurant that was there. Besides the Yelp convention, I think this place is a great venue to have concerts or have a big wedding reception. You can transform this place to be fun and rave like or beautiful and elegant. read more

I went to the Craneway for the Oakland Bay Area symphony and was incredibly impressed with the venue. First and foremost, the views from the place are spectacular, to say the least. The event sits on the edge of the water and you can see all of San Francisco stretched out in front of you. They set up the stage in the middle of the gigantic room, which at first felt a bit strange, but when the sun went down behind the Symphony and cast the sky in brilliant colors, it was clear why they chose the set up the way they did. Boats sailed by in the background, and there was no distracting external noise. All of this made for an extremely enjoyable setting. The event itself was also very well run. The security was extremely friendly and helpful--they didn't wear the normal scowls I have come to expect during large events. To attest to this, there were 2,000+ people lined up around the parking lot waiting for the gates to open, and the entire line was well managed. When the doors were a few minutes late to open, one of the security guards came outside and told everyone what was happening (and then apologized for the slight delay). Once inside, we were treated to the spectacular views that I mentioned above, as well some delicious food. Apparently they had recently opened a restaurant, named The Boilerhouse. I ordered a Flank Steak sandwich for 7.00, which was served with a spicy salsa-like sauce, for lack of a better word. It was very delicious--the steak was cooked a perfect medium rare, and the sauce really complemented the meat. If I lived in the area, I would definitely visit the restaurant often since the prices are very affordable and the food is fresh and scrumptious. At the end of the evening, fireworks went off and ended the evening (literally) with a bang. Overall, the event was extremely well put together, the Symphony was awesome, and I left thoroughly impressed. read more

The only reason for 4 stars is there is not enough supporting, cool restaurants in the neighborhood. Craneway itself is excellent - whoever decided on floor to ceiling windows is a genius. ETD FRIGHT~ My very first time to get effin wasted! Whoo hoo~ So I came here in 2008 with my friend Binh. She came to pick me up in her car & she drove us to ETD Fright which is at the Craneway Pavilion down in Richmond. Yes, it's sketchy there. Downright dangerous, but hey.. I got the tickets for free & plus, I was feeling down so I need something to make me feel better. What better way to do so than to dance dance dance. So the parking was like $25. We pre-drank, and then we drank some more once inside. We got to see Paul Van Dyk. I started feeling really woozy & dizzy. Then threw up multiple times. Then Binh helped me get back to the car & the security guard helped her get me to the car as well. He was cool about everything. I can't believe that Binh got us both back to my place safely cause we dranked the same amount; maybe she had a higher tolerance or it was just plain luck. Either way, It was unforgettable. We went here doe nerium meeting. And I have to say the building is pretty nice and simple, historical. On the inside we had beautiful view of the ocean and San Francisco. Which was my favorite part of it all. The down part that it gets really hot inside in warm weather that we had. And there was no a/c, fans. After sitting there in the meeting for 5 hours, we were beat tired! And also they had super hard chairs which were really uncomfortable to sit on :( Other then that it is perfect place for big or small events! read more
