I took my cats to CAH for their first checkup and first vaccinations. All aspects of the experience were impeccable, with the staff very friendly and professional and Dr. Courtney especially amazing. What I loved most about the experience was how Dr. Courtney patiently explained different elements of cat health as well as upcoming lab work and procedures that the cats needed. We even went so far as to talk about their diet which put me at ease knowing I am feeding them higher quality stuff. You could sense Dr. Courtney to be genuinely caring and compassionate for not just the wellbeing of animals but for them to get the best upbringing. Such a compassionate staff- my 17 year old torti had struggled with cancer for the past year. They helped me pro-long her life comfortably as much as they could. This is a tough review to write because there were things I did like about Cranston Animal Hospital. They were understanding that I did not have a lot of money (current grad student). I thought Dr. Elias (who I believe has left CAH now) was very compassionate. They both kinda tried, but did not try hard enough. My elder cat slipped through the cracks again and again. Calls were not returned to make appointments. When I was able to get in, tests were run again and again that turned into no useful results (vet could not diagnose or treat properly). I also got the sense that the vet (and perhaps staff too) were overworked. It's probably also worth noting that my very first appointment (before Dr. Elias) was with a vet who quit soon after and I never saw again. Ultimately, I ended up with my cat at an emergency vet in the middle of the night, and my beloved cat died. I still don't know what was wrong with him to this day. It's true he was older, but both him and myself deserved something better than "cats are weird" or "if he takes a turn for the worse call us." Beyond having a mysterious ailment, he was social and spry. I believe if we knew what was wrong he could have lived even 4 or 5 more years. Having a cat is already tough because I've found that vets definitely don't go above and beyond the way they do for dogs, but I truly feel like Cranston Animal Hospital failed me. They also sent me a really paltry Condolences card in the mail after my cat passed. To put the nail in the coffin, after I called them to let them know my cat passed, they sent me a reminder message that my dead cat was due for a check-up. I called so someone could flag this in the system. Apparently, no flag was raised, because I had to be reminded that my dead cat was indeed dead. While I don't want to write this negative review, I'm sitting down to search for a new vet today because I've since adopted a new cat, but it feels prudent to warn people that CAH really did fail me, and I would not recommend anyone take their cat there. read more

brought my dog in to be seen for what I thought was it be sting it turned out he was diagnosed with an ear infection. They gave him an injection with a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory and sent him home with eardrops. He was stable, leaving Cranston anamil Hosp on Friday evening I gave my dog, the medication by mouth in the eardrops that they prescribed. He immediately became extremely distressed, shaking and collapsed. He then proceeded to have blood in his stool. I called this morning to discuss my concerns, and was told the only eardrops that he could have with the ones that were prescribed and that if I wanted to have a test done for his stool it would be $200 to send the stool out to see if it was in fact blood in it, I visually saw and could smell the blood in his stool. The doctor that was on call refused to call me or speak with me. The receptionist told me she couldn't answer any of my questions because she was not a nurse. She then proceeded to accuse me of yelling at her, which I was not, and then hung up on me. They told me I would have to wait until Friday for the vet who had seen him last Friday to see him again and they would put a note in for her I was instructed to discontinue pills, but continue to put the painful eardrops in his ears. Not sure who overseas this clinic or the veterinarians that rotate in and out of there but this mornings events are unacceptable. read more

I took my dog here for about 3 years. They have major staff turnover and were always incredibly disorganized and hard to get in touch with. Scheduling an appointment took many phone calls over weeks to get a regular visit. They missed two major diagnoses that required my dog to go to the emergency vet when they hit crisis level. And when symptoms came up after my dog's diagnosis, they were either not around to answer questions, or brushed off my concerns. This is not my vet, however I do bring my dog here for preventive dental cleaning. This is the only location in RI that offers this service. Not many have heard of it because the company is not based in-state instead what they do is visit once a month so it's best to book as early as possible. This dental cleaning does not require anesthesia and is done while your dog/cat is awake. As long as your pet qualifies for this treatment it's highly recommend especially if your animal is sensitive, or doesn't really require to be put under like in my dog's case. It takes a good 3/4 hours to be seen and have the cleaning done, once over the vet reviews everything. When he got sick and was dying i called in a panic and the person who answered said "CALL AROUND WE CANT SEE HIM TODAY" because they were booked. BEWARE.....Since Dr. Courtney Rebensdorf left Cranston Animal Hospital, it has taken a turn for the worse. The doctor that saw & treated my cat Junior T was not very thorough. He had seen this doctor twice & both times I felt like my cat was just a number at a deli. Unfortunately, he is no longer alive & feel like he most likely would still be here if there was a follow up appointment for him after being prescribed insulin twice daily. Not only that, but there is a technician there that was always very curt with me on the phone. The only way I would ever return to that hospital, is if there is a change of staff. I have yet to go inside Cranston Animal Hospital because of how well they are protecting everyone and every pet under Covid, but I have brought six cats for annual checkups as new patients and one cat in for kidney problems. I couldn't have been treated better. Of course I miss the vet I was with for 25 years in another state, but my early introduction to the Cranston Animal Hospital makes me think I have chosen absolutely the right place. Horrible business, does not care about pet health at all, only interested in making money. Very very disappointed, my dog has been a patient there for 4 years and since my vet retired they have been very unaccommodating and actually rude. My pup had a health problem and they told me they couldn't help and take him to ocean state, which I did and it worked out fine. Ocean state wanted him to follow up with my local vet, Cranston Animal Hospital and they could not even take him in for an urgent visit. I have been getting my pup his flea and tick meds at their office for almost 4 years and suddenly they don't carry the meds in the office anymore...however I was never notified except for the text alert I got to tell me it was time to pick up his meds. When I called office they told me it had to be done online, which was news to me, I followed through and did as instructed only to be denied because my pup, who was sick and hospitalized since they wouldn't see him, and had 300.00 of bloodwork at ocean state, which they had access to this info, they said he had to have the blood work done at their office at an additional expense because they couldn't be liable for outside blood work, despite the fact they instructed me to bring him there. Since when do dogs need blood work for flea and tick meds!?!? I am so disgusted by this treatment and they were happy to see me go and gave me all his medical records happily and not caring about losing a patient. I am a nurse and have patient contact every day...Cranston animal hospital used to treat my pet like a patient and not a money maker but obviously those days are gone. It is very saddening for us to have seen the last of Dr. Courtney Rebensdorf. She was, bar none, the best vet one could have ever done business with. All of my 3 late Old English Sheepdogs and my nearly 15 year old Bichon Frise were very well taken care of by her, and staff. Most of our treatments were at Oaklawn Animal Hospital, but more recently my little guy Brady migrated to her newer facility. We will always be indebted to her and the care she provided, along with her staff- especially Sonja, who we have dealt with since 1987. We wish Dr. Courtney a heartfelt congratulations on her retirement. She will be sorley missed. But we will always cherish the fact that our "boys" were always in good hands. And props to Sonja, too, who remained at Oaklawn Animal Hospital. She was, and still is another, like Dr. Rebensdorf, a person with a wonderful bedside manner. read more

Quality veterinarian care is never going to be cheap but I didn't feel like I was being over charged or forced into spending money on treatments my dog didn't need. They understand that people live on budgets and try their best to make quality care of pets affordable. We had been a patient of Oaklawn Animal Hospital for many years. Our 15 year old Fur baby, Gee Gee, passed away on 8/15/19. On 09/01/19, we purchased a new puppy to love. Cranston Animal Hospital is around the corner from our home and the sister hospital of Oaklawn so we decided to have our puppy's first exam and second set of shots done here. Dr. Courtney Rebensdorf and her staff were excellent. She did a thorough check up of our puppy along with her second set of shots. I still get emotional when speaking about our Gee Gee and she actually got teary as well and left the room to get me Kleenex. She was so empathetic and was also wonderful with our new puppy,Allie. The vet techs were excellent and really took their time to get to know Allie. They are reasonably priced and when I brought up getting a prescription for Allie's heart worm medicine so that I could get it filled at a better price she explained that she was at the weight limit where we could get stuck with the wrong dosed heart worm medication once she grows so we were better off doing month to month for now and that she would write a prescription once her weight leveled off. It was just an all around positive experience. I highly recommend them. read more

After looking around on Yelp, we settled on Cranston Animal Hospital. We have been bringing our dogs here for annual checkups and shots for a few years now. We have also brought them in for random illnesses and injuries as well. (Side note: they have another location, Oaklawn Animal Hospital, that we have we have also used - same great care and vets.) We are so happy with the care we receive from the staff and veterinarians here! They are personable with us and our dogs and patient with the many questions and concerns we always have. I've also found them to provide excellent explanations on extra and occasional services offered without being pushy at all. They have nice rubber pads on the examination tables that make a world of difference for our nervous dogs. In all we are happy and confident with the care our two dogs receive here! read more

Yesterday I adopted an older cat with medical issues. The shelter only gave me one can of her prescription food. I am currently a patient of an excellent mobile vet who couldn't see me until five days later because of my work schedule, and legally she couldn't give my cat prescription food until she examined her. She suggested the shelter fax the prescription to a local animal hospital and have them fill it. Cranston Animal Hospital is nearby, so I asked the shelter to fax it there. When I went to pick up the food, without calling to tell them I was coming, they didn't have any in stock and probably wouldn't get any for two days. Dr. Rebensdorf personally took the time to help me find a solution, even though I was not a patient. If I ever were to go to another vet, she would be the one. read more
