It is apparent that the woman who answers the phone (when in fact, they do answer the phone) has quite an attitude problem, as I am not the only person that she decided to hang up on in mid sentence. Best veterinarian facility ever. In my dogs 12 years, she's never had an emergency situation, let alone on a Sunday, let alone during COVID. They were able to see my fur baby within 90 mins. They had me wait outside while they brought her inside which my dog and I were both nervous about. However the person I dealt with, Tia (was her name) could tell we were both nervous and not only eased my mind on the front end about not being there in the exam room but also called me DURING the exam to assure me my dog was doing very well and handling everything just fine. Tia is the type of person that should be working with every pet parent. Compassionate, communicative and empathetic to people having to deal w their pet babies during emergencies. Not only was the service fast, safe and effective. For an emergency visit, on a Sunday, during COVID, and I wasn't a patient there previously, my bill was a mere 130 dollars for something that would have cost much much more elsewhere (as a lifelong dog dad, I know these things). Their professionalism and empathy and pricing is second to none. Thank you Tia and Hoffman Animal Hospital for being there during a stressful emergency. This idiot told me my dog had cancer, after getting a biopsy she DID NOT in fact have any type of cancer whatsoever. It was a benign fatty tumor. He didn't even check my dog. He just touched the tumor and said "yup it's cancer" , My dog is like my child so obviously I was very upset after. The only person in that entire "hospital" who has any type of compassion was the male vet tech, who said sorry and patted my arm. So I had to take time out work AND pay for a biopsy because he is a unprofessional dumb after taking my dog to a real vet I found out those types of tumors are very common with small , overweight dogs. He didn't say my dog COULD or MIGHT have cancer , he said she DID, but she DID NOT. He's old and senile and not good at his job at all. He also sold us some shampoo that caused my other dog to break out in a horrible rash, again after going to a real vet we found out he was having a allergic reaction to the food we were feeding him. Terrible, had our dog put down there, my husband had to wait in the car, only 1 person inside the building, wasn't even Covid. Gave us the dog back wrapped in the blanket we brought with us. No box no nothing and the cost was $300. No compassion what so ever. Our other elderly dog recently was sick and had to be put down. Another vet in MA, (Mass/RI clinic) charged only $160, let the family be with the dog for at least an hour or however long we needed to say goodbye. They put him in a box wrapped in a nice blanket. We also just received a sympathy card this afternoon from them. What a difference. read more

We just recently moved to RI and Hoffman Animal Hospital is nothing short of amazing! Thanks to the staff, we were able to get seen really quickly and on short notice. They really care about the well being of your animal here and make you feel really welcome. All of their offered services are on their website; there are some things that they don't have so make sure to check on what you're going for or call before your visit. The only issue is that it is located in a difficult location at the corner of a street. ALSO, their parking lot doesn't have very much parking, so it can be hard if you went on a busy day. I've been going there since my pooch was a pup... at the time I googled every vet around & they were the most affordable to have my dog neutered so I gave them a shot. Once I was there I met Dr.B; I couldn't speak highly enough of him. I found out his Mom was in charge of the greyhound adoption program at "Lincoln Park" (now Twin River), for years... as a past employee of the track I remembered her; how well and was liked & what a tremendous job she did with the dogs... it made me very comfortable. The walk in appointment setup was extremely convenient for me & has remained that way for the 13+ years I've taken Bishop there. The staff is awesome, way beyond friendly, compassionate & knowledgeable. Tia & Sam are great; They always welcome with a warm smile & remember my dog & I. I have been coming here for 4 years, as long as I've had my cat since she was a bitty 5 weeks old. Hoffman is a small, well-run animal clinic that is excellent for routine check-ups, vaccinations and minor health issues. They don't do appointments, so you just show-up as you need and I've never had to wait more than 15 minutes for my cat to get checked. Dr. Bazaar is very experienced and great with the pets. Since my cat was found as part of a stray litter, they've given me medicine for stomach worms, ear mites, and flea medicine. All issues have been resolved! The prices are fair (standard office visit fee plus any additional work) and the staff is very caring and helpful. They are prompt in providing any lab work results to you via phone. read more

Unfortunately we bounced around to a few vets before finding Hoffman's and honestly they are the reason our fur baby Einstein is alive today. I have had nothing but good experiences at Hoffman. I have been taking my Labrador here since 2013. It was only after me complaining about the excessive cost and lack of care by another local "Animal Hospital" that my doggy day care "The Barking Lot" made a suggestion to try Hoffman. I was bit hesitant mostly because of the location and never having heard of it before. It was only after I mentioned it to some family and friends that they told me about their long history of helping the local community with low-cost, quality care and their dedication to rescues that I decided to make the switch. My recommendation is that Hoffman should be used for yearly check-ups and common doggy illnesses-kennel cough, ear aches, allergies etc. and save the emergency visits for a true animal hospital. My former Animal Hospital had quoted close to $400 for a visit,rabies, boardetella, influenza, Lyme, heart-worm and fecal test. Hoffman quoted apx, $210. There really wasn't much of a question of making the switch, other than the hesitation of ... what is the quality of care? Upon her initial appointment the Vet was very consistent and honest. He didn't push any non essential or add-on items to the visit. If she needed something he suggested it, if she didn't he left it out. About a year ago she came down with a case of gastroenteritis. I was concerned for her bloated belly and walk-in for a visit. The truth is that she really just needed to fart it out; however, the office knew that should it not be "gas" she would need xrays. He could have taken me in and charged me an office visit like my old hospital did, but instead he kindly told me I should leave and go to a more sophisticated facility, like Ocean State Animal Hospital, where they were equipped to take care of her case. I was much impressed by their honesty and genuine concern for her. This yearly appointment I was just as impressed. Same quality of care, he suggested an ear cleaner which was $25 dollars, and I was happy to start that treatment. He also suggested a brand of heart-worm preventative, but gave me the option of ordering from the web (1-800 pet med's, or something similar) where they have a better selection. Four years ago, upon the insistence of a close friend, I cautiously cruised through the southern part of the city with my pooch, who was due for a checkup. It was time for this kind of change, if for no other reason than the fact that her last vet had kept us waiting for over 90 minutes on her previous two visits. They use the walk-in model here at Hoffman, but the quality of care certainly does not feel like a typical clinic - not even remotely. From the moment we walked in we were made to feel at home, before being taken straight away and as a result of these consistently positive experiences, we have been happily returning ever since. The vets and their assistants are patient, thorough and efficient. Best of all, when it comes time to handle the business end of things, they try to cut deals for you on pricing (always rounding down, sometimes way down). On top of this, they have also been known to dispense treats, toys, bandanas and samples of dog food for no other reason than they love your fluff-balls almost as much as you do. And when the receptionist hands out these much appreciated goodies, like everyone here, it is always done with a smile. So don't be scurred, head down to Washington Park (aka Woofington Bark, sorry 'bout that) with your best friend and I promise there will be a lot of tail wagging. read more

I wanted to write an honest review because I know I was searching the Internet to find good and bad ones for Vets when contemplating getting my one and a half year old cat declawed. Hoffman Animal Hospital was GREAT! They were the cheapest to get my cat declawed, took her in the morning and was able to pick her up that night. They allowed me to call in and check on her during the day. I recommend everyone to them for this procedure and they are now my cats permanent vet. The decor could be a little more warming and inviting but the service was excellent. I rescued my cat from a shelter and only accept the best for her and I'm SO GLAD I went here for this procedure and that it went so extremely well. read more

Three years ago, I adopted my first greyhound and needed a vet who is grey-savvy since the breed has some chemical sensitivities, including problems with common anasthetics. The Hoffman Animal Hospital was recommended to me by other greyhound owners and so we started taking our dog to them. In the three years since, we have received nothing but fabulous care. The entire staff is courteous, friendly, and genuinely caring. We foster greyhounds and have brought 6 different dogs to them over the years for treatment. They have often given us discounts for many of these treatments, and are big supporters of dogs in need. Most times I visit, they have a rescue case behind the desk, and they are always asking after our fosters. The two vets at this office are Dr Bazaar and Dr Huston. We've seen both but Dr Huston is our regular. She is extremely helpful, friendly, and competant. Everyone is very gentle with the dogs and I like how they're not constantly trying to sell us something (which seems to be a hazard with other vets). I think the price is reasonable and likely competitive, though I haven't been to others to really give a fair comparison. They don't schedule appointments; during open hours, you simply turn up with your pets and are seen in order OR need (emergency cases always go straight through). Only specific procedures are scheduled in advance. As someone who fosters and is a dog nut in general, I appreciate the service I receive here. My greyhound actually loves going the vet, probably because they feed him treats the whole time he is there! read more

I called to get my dog seen as she wasn't feeling well. I was speaking to someone on the phone who at first seemed pleasant until I tried to explain to her that I felt the up charge from a regular visit of $55 to what she was charging me $85 for the same visit because my dog was "sick" was a bit unfair. I explained to her that due to an illness, I was not working at the present time. The next thing you know, the "pleasant" person I was speaking to turned into the MOST ignorant/disrespectful gutter-sniper I've ever had the misfortune of coming across. She had the nerve to say "Well then go somewhere else! I don't have time for this shit" & hung up the phone . I called back to let her know I wanted to speak to the manager because I didn't appreciate being spoken to like that or hung up on & she had the audacity to say "fuck you bitch, I own this business" and hung up on me again!! At NO time was I ever disrespectful to this person. To be spoken to & treated like this ESPECIALLY by a business (a business we're supposed to entrust with our sick pet) is completely inexcusable & unacceptable!! read more

Also the woman Vet featured on their homepage has a bunch of cats so that seemed to be a good thing.The people are nice, but I paid $45 for an honest-to-goodness VET to tell me that "I don't feel anything but we don't have X-ray" and "the vet who is good with taking blood from cats isn't here." I was then told my cat was probably dying and given a recommendation to take him to another clinic (Ocean State Veterinary Specialists.) If my cat hadn't been having seizures on the table I would have refused to pay, but I was in a hurry to keep him from dying so I paid. Our family has been going here for 20+ years. That being said, we absolutely love this animal hospital. The waiting room has always been spotless, and accommodates cats in a separate waiting room (if feline owners would rather their cats not be near dogs). The staff is very friendly, and always knows my dog's names. I thought I was special until I realized the staff knows most of their patient's by name. If you look behind the receptionist desk you are bound to see a dog they have rescued. They normally rescue a dog that stays in the office. Frightening! I brought two of my cats here years ago to have them both neutered. It was so uninviting, I walked in and they pretty much took my cats from me and told me when to come back. Upon my return, there was one cat in the cat carrier and they told me that I was "all set". I had to remind them that I came with two cats in which they went back and fetched my other cat. The prices are very reasonable, though the location isn't very admirable, the employees are. I took my Boston Terrier here to be fixed about 2 years ago and the surgeon did an absolutely great job. The surgeon then Lori now has passed away. She was a great and friendly surgeon, who really cared about the animals she met. I have known her for years. However, I felt extremely rushed through the appointment (literally took only 5 minutes, maybe because of the walk in format?) and had the feeling that my concerns and questions were brushed off. Love coming here for routine visits for my cats and dogs. I used to go to a big, state of the art animal hospital which was quite the drive and quite expensive for my simple routine visits. I found this place through a friend, and love how close and convenient the hours are. Great quality of care and they happily greet and recognize my pets every time, which is a major plus. My dog ingested one of my moms glipizide pills. Hoffman animal hospital told me since it was a human med they couldn't provide any help. I decided to bring my dog to them assuming if we were there they would have no choice but to at least try to help. Upon arrival I informed them I called in about the poisoned dog. They told me to sit down and keep my dog quite while they make phone calls trying to locatate an organization to cover another customers vet bill. Finally I spoke up asking if somebody could please at least look at my dog, thats when the doctor became arrogant and rude telling me if I didn't like it I could bring my dog somewhere else, which in fact I did. (In a screwed up way it was the best advise!) Thankfully I was able to find a vet that actually cares about the well being of animals and was told if anything like this ever happens again to either induce vomiting or give maple syrup to raise the blood sugar level. If you love your dog like a member of your own family please avoid Hoffman animal hospital. I know times are tough and their prices are cheap, but like the old saying goes you get what you pay for. It should be noted that doctor Huston was not on call that day and staff member Sam wanted to help, but didn't have the authority. I have taken all of my pets there for over 5 years, I got my shih tzu spayed there, and I like how they are very honest about letting you know what items are the most important to get done and why when you are on a budget, they have walk in first come first serve which is great when you have a unpredictable schedule or something arises suddenly, as well as they send reminds for shots and what not in the mail which is very helpful. the secretary is always so friendly, and it's great that they always have familiar faces working through the years so you know how they interact with your pets, and your pets always have a consistent vet experience. read more

This vet hospital is as good as it gets. Hoffman has taken care of all my animals and Dr. B treats each one of them like it is his own. He especially seems to like the special needs and elderly dogs which is endearing. The vet tech who runs the office as well is Tia and she treats you like family when you walk in. Earlier this year my Boston Terrier had to be euthanized due to illness and Tia was right there the entire time making sure Mikey and I were OK. She even took a paw print of him which is now one of my most prized possessions. Tia is a tough cookie because she has to see alot everyday and not all of it is good but when she was with me while Mikey was being put down she had tears in her eyes because she truly cares about the animals brought into Hoffman. The people who own this business are right there almost daily working as hard as everyone. They have hearts of gold. No dog I have ever taken in has been turned away. This is one vet clinic that is in it because they have a passion to help animals. No one will ever make you feel bad or charge you outrageous amounts. They keep the costs as low as they can and truly are animal loving wonderful people. The entire staff is amazing. Sam one of the other vet techs held a little blind pug in his arms and was talking to her because she had to get her shots. I love seeing the staff interact with the animals.
