Called them at 430 in the morning about some weird behavior my 16 year old dog was displaying out of nowhere. They said I should bring her in but recommended waiting until shift change at 7-8am. Got there about 745 and she was taken right back. I was brought into a room and few minutes later the vet came in and said they'd done a physical exam already and asked me to explain why I was there. He said based on everything I said, he believed she had a brain tumor and we could do an MRI but the treatment would only manage symptoms which would get worse quickly and could include seizures, personality change and aggression. We made the difficult decision to help my baby pass on. They did not rush me and were super understanding. I had brought her blanket and toys and treats as I wasn't sure how long we would be there so she was very comfortable. I recently left a review from our experience @OceanStateVeterinarySpecialists botching our dog's surgery and them submitting a collection account to my wife's credit report 2 years later, which at the original time of their 2nd surgery they said they would not be charging us for and therefore we never received any bills, as such we thought this matter was resolved. This is in response to "Business Manager Abby K's" response to my review on 5/20/26. Facts: We were trying to not name specific names in my initial review on 5/20/26 to protect the honest employees and give confidentiality. 1. Dr, Sweet said an infection could not have occurred so quickly during their care. Basically impossible as it takes more time for an infection to develop. Dr. Sweet was extremely kind and truthful. We appreciate his transparency to this day. 2. Dr. Sweet did not do the original surgery, but did the incision revision (2nd surgery) and said the reason the initial surgery/incision opened up was because instead of doing internal and external stitches from the initial surgery they only did internal stitches and external glue, which he said was not the proper method as the glue couldn't hold the incision closed because the incision was too big. 3. Ocean State Veterinary Specialists would never provide us with of any documentation of lab results showing any infection that supposedly occurred under their care, but they stated he had a very generic infection, which we believe was attempt to cover their mistake, as Dr. Sweet stated an infection couldn't have developed so quickly. 4. We've consulted with other experienced Vets since this matter, with all relevant information/photos/etc provided to them and they all confirm that our dog was mishandled. We very much appreciate Dr, Sweet for fixing our dog and his transparency. He's a very honest and qualified surgeon. Unfortunately the hospital Dr Sweet works for is not. While we promptly paid the collection account in full as soon as it was posted, we will be seeking most importantly changes and also damages through legal channels regarding this matter. We are not looking for any monetary reward besides our lost time and expenses, but rather aiming for this institution to improve itself, not blame the public, admit when they've made a mistake and not defraud the public at the same time. It will cost us more unnecessary expense to see this through, but with most of our experience on camera in their own hospital with this event and just the moral aspect of doing the right thing for pets we will incur this expense on behalf of others that perhaps cannot afford it and more importantly, all our pets. Please go somewhere else in the meantime for the safely of your pet and research past court cases against this company. No one wants to go here...I was referred by my vet when they couldn't figure out what was wrong with my dog. Every single worker I personally encountered as well as the workers helping other patients were all super kind, empathetic and patient. They gave me 3 options but never made me feel like the choice I made was wrong. I dont feel like they were pushy and were extremely honest about the need to administer another test if the one I decided wasn't conclusive. They could've milked almost $1200 out of me at that point and they didn't. I appreciate all the doctors and stuff. I highly recommend this veterinary hospital. read more

My 13 year old Labrador has been on the chemo pill for 7 months. I tried to get her meds filled online and they told me I had to call Doctor Alexander's office. I called and left a message, they called me back to tell me Dr Alexander is on paternity leave. The doctor won't be back to work until the end of August and they won't refill the prescription until she gets seen by him. Had I known this I would have made sure she saw the doctor before he went out on leave. In my opinion It's very unprofessional that his patients parents were not notified prior to him going on leave. Response To My Review: Hi Abby, while I appreciate the response I do need to be VERY clear and clarify that what you stated in your comment is not accurate by any means. When I called before bringing Johnny in, I was specifically told that your avian specialist would be in the hospital until 5pm and I confirmed that if I arrived before that time she would be there to at the very least put hands on him and be in communication with any other doctors seeing him after she left. I was told to "drive safe" and not rush, but they would see me soon. We arrived at 415pm, and she was not there. So to claim that I was told she was not available is simply not true. I also sent a very detailed email outlining my concerns and informing your client liaison that Johnny had passed away, and I never received any reply. The lack of response after such a devastating loss, paired with public misrepresentation of what actually occurred, is deeply disappointing. I work in the animal field myself and since sharing my experience, I have now heard from multiple other clients who have had similar experiences with their birds, misdiagnoses, dismissive communication and cases that ended just like Johnny's. Instead of your facility acknowledging where improvements can be made, this response doubles down and dismisses the truth, which only makes this entire situation worse sadly. It is incredibly inappropriate to publicly post something that is not factual, especially in response to a grieving client who reached out in good faith hoping this would not happen to anyone else. The issue here is not simply that he passed, I understand that some outcomes are not preventable but my issue is rather how his case was handled, how we were misled, how communication repeatedly failed, and how your hospital continues to publicly deflect responsibility. To double down on misinformation instead of showing an ounce of accountability or compassion is unacceptable. The public response not only minimizes what actually happened but demonstrates exactly the kind of poor communication and disregard that caused this situation in the first place. I did not post my review expecting a response, especially after being ignored the first time. I reached out because I truly hoped that by speaking up, it might lead to change in how your hospital handles and treats patients, so that no one else has to experience what we did. Everyone in this facility has an awful attitude. Called around 12 am after my cat started acting weird asked the lady on the phone if this is truly an emergency and if I should bring my cat in the lady says in the snarkiest tone "she should have already been here..." I snapped back okay and hung up, I would've taken my cat anywhere else that night if other places weren't full. I get there they take my cat and I start filling out the papers I checked the box that said "do not do anything to my cat without speaking to me" about 30 minutes go by I called get called into a room and I'm told my cat has cancer( she didn't), and they need to run a bunch of tests that costs thousands of dollars or I need to put her down. After a while I tell the doctor I want to take my cat home because I want to go and get a second opinion. She proceeds to call me selfish and say that my cat is most certainly going to die on the drive home. (She didn't). She said I was making a mistake. I signed the release papers. She then tells me they put catheter in my cat, which I never approved. Because I have not seen her from when I first gave her over to them until they gave me her back. I had no clue what they were doing to her. I proceeded to go VEG the next day they are significantly better. Your animal will never leave your sight, they do everything in front of you. They are way nicer. They actually care about your animal. I do not recommend Ocean State. It is a cash grab, either pay thousands of dollars or put your animal down at this place. Whole staff is rude and does no care for your animals. Abby "Business Manager" don't comment on my review this place is awful instead of trying to discredit people's experience at this facility maybe do a better job at running one. Hire people that actually give a shit about animals. And don't completely disregard my wishes to not do anything to my fucking cat without my permission then proceed to shame me because I don't want my cat to die in this awful establishment. Came with my cat. She had a kidney infection. I was there over 3 1/2 hours. I get it that it takes time to see patients. But the doctor (he was great) finished with her, told me the diagnosis and what the plan was and it took over another hour for them to give me back my cat and let us leave. They don't let you go back with your pet. They take them and leave you in the waiting room. Even after I paid, they still were holding her hostage and I could hear her crying through the door. There is absolutely no excuse for how they run this place. I've never been to a vet that didn't let you go in with your pet. I only gave two stars because the vet himself was good. When you have a pet emergency during the weekend and few options to choose from because you have an exotic pet (chicken) not treatable by all facilities, you need to pick one quick and I should have read the reviews first but I took my chances and drove to them with my hen who had a couple of superficial bites after an encounter with a fox. They told me on the phone that they had an exotic pet specialist but when I got there, I found out that the specialist was out that day, why would they do that? So I could pay the emergency fee? They took Amelia to the examination room where she stayed for at least 2 hours and nobody was talking to me or providing any updates. They made me sign a form that I would be responsible for any additional pay and all I asked was that I would like the estimate to be shared with me prior the service was provided but I ended up with a $505. bill after the service was finished. The exotic substitute Vet, who was new there, Dr. Thang, came to talk to me but she informed that she didn't even check all the wounds, They sent me home with a couple of expensive medications. When I picked up my chicken, her head was down and she was not responding well, she was very lethargic and they did not know how long it would take for her to react to the meds and start healing. Today, the next day, she is still acting the same. I tried to call them several times and I was on hold for several minutes. When I was finally answered, they put me on hold again for 15 minutes, I hung up and called again and at this time, the person who answered the phone said that I had two options: either discharge and to the treatment at home (she had not been admitted) or euthanasia. I find it that for the amount of money they charge, it's not only unacceptable to treat a pet parent like that, it's repulsive. I understand that they are a business, but they are dealing with lives, sentient beings who are loved and cherished. Find another place to take your pet. This is not the one. never going to this place again they only care about money. i am not 100% financially stable but i still care about my animals. i brought my kitten in because something is severely wrong with her eye. they had us there 4 hours and did NOTHING. they didn't do any tests bc we didn't have enough money, they sent her out with gabapentin and two things for her eye. also had us pay $18.50 for a PAPER COLLAR with her name on it, that exact paper collar had adhesive on it and was stuck to her whiskers! they also failed to tell us her vitals required a shot so when i seen her leg wrapped in TAPE and cotton i freaked. her eye is much worse than it was when we originally brought her. it's now bleeding and she's in much more pain. if i could give 0 stars i would. this place needs to be shut down. everybody else in this place did not seem very happy either. picture below is her eye before, and now. read more

About 2 years ago our extremely sick/vomiting cat was seen by Dr.Ralphs for a second opinion. They were able to see her within afew minutes of us walking in the door due to the severity of the situation. It turned out she needed emergency surgery due to a blockage from a foreign body. The communication from the staff was unmatched in terms of care of my pet. They sent daily emails, phone calls and photo updates, and they were honest about her healing/progress during her admission to the animal hospital. They were incredibly compassionate and informative. I deducted a star for the fact they would not see her without us putting down 50% of the surgeries cost up front. Not many people randomly have 3,000$ to readily cough up, but they did not share many other options that I'm now aware of (such as care credit or scratch pay) and I paid for this with my credit card. When we picked her up from her stay, we had to pay the remainder, no options for payment plans it seems, and the total cost was nearly $8,000. I do understand that you get what you pay for when it comes to animal care in an emergency. read more

We came in on Christmas Eve only to find out they had only one veterinarian on duty to see all the animals that came in and one veterinarian who's job was to take care of the animals that had already been admitted into the hospital . after hours and hours of waiting, which I could understand and certainly do not blame the poor veterinarian, but the company for there being only one veterinarian, but then we find out that our cat which they told me was stable and kept getting kicked back to the end of the line was actually drowning in her own fluid from cancer and we had to put her to sleep . Of course this was all devastating news to us, but worse was the treatment we received. After hearing we had to put our beloved cat to sleep. . They said they would bring her into the room for us to spend time with her before they put her to sleep and they left us sitting in that room alone 30 to 40 minutes without our fur baby ! I actually had to go out to the front desk on two occasions to ask them to bring us our cat . And then they disappeared again, and I had to go out again to the front desk and ask them to send the veterinarian in. . They treated our cat that I have loved for 11 years as if it were my child like it was just another thousand dollar profit for them and that is exactly what they ended up charging me.! I get the bill and they had done testing. They never asked me about doing and charges they never told me would be on the bill . I spoke to the Vet once prior to finding out we were gonna lose her and she said they were going to do one x-ray one view and it would cost $200 plus of course the fee to walk through the door of $260 and then hours later, they call us back into the room and tell us the x-ray showed fluid building in her chest and that she had cancer and would drown in her own fluids if we did not put her to sleep . So of course we did, but then I get the bill and they charged us for a flash Ultrasound that was $75 they charged us a radiology room fee of $40 and a $160 radiograph fee . None of these test were done with our knowing or our permission . They even charged us $120 to put a catheter in her paw to put her to sleep. Most veterinarians will use a butterfly needle to administer the sedation shot and then the final shot . And then when I finally saw her, they did not give her any sedation or pain medicine nothing helpful Instead, they brought her in the room, fully alert and trying to be a cat, jumping off the table, scared to death with this huge thing hanging out of her paw.. I had made an appointment for my cat the same night to go to pet medic in Warwick, Rhode Island at 1:30 the next afternoon but because my cat had gotten worse, I raced her to Ocean State . Out of respect I called and left a message with pet medic because it was 5 AM by then to let them know that my cat would not be at her appointment that day because she had been put to sleep by Ocean State and I received a call later in the day by Pet medic just so they could tell me how sorry they were that I had lost my kitty only hours before her appointment with them . I got more care and compassion from them then I ever received at Ocean State. ! I told them when we came in that this was the fourth cat I had brought to the veterinarian in the last week and we did not have a lot of money and I asked them to tell me prior to any testing to make sure I could afford it . They completely ignored. My request charged me hundreds of dollars they never spoke to me about left me sitting in a room without my baby for 30 to 40 minutes and treated her like she was just another thousand dollar profit to them ! Again, I do not blame the doctor. I blame the million dollar company that will only pay one veterinarian on Christmas Eve to handle every animal that comes through the door !!!! And just for the record, this is not the first time they have overcharged for testing that was never approved or authorized or even discussed . I would recommend you reconsider going there ! I give 3 stars because I've had 2 experiences with this practice. The first experience I'd give 5+ stars, the second experience would be absolutely zero. After discussing this with a few other professionals and reading through reviews, it seems like the experience here depends on which vet you get. I'm going to headline that in no way do I benefit by reporting my review. I've already tried to express my concerns after the second experience and never had true follow up or communication. I would not be surprised if there is a response (as I've seen from other reviews) from OSV trying to defend their reputation because doing so, they are after a benefit instead of upholding integrity and accountability. Experience 1, vet Jennifer LaPierre: Brought my male cat into the emergency room after the recommendation of PetMedic Urgent care for a urinary blockage that had brought his kidney levels to a dangerous count. Knowing full well the outcome could not be good, I could not sing enough praises for OSV. The vet triaged him promptly, the wait was long but they kept my son and I informed. We had to leave him there for a few days so they could watch his levels, but they did let us say good night to him before we left on the first arrival. After that, the communication was excellent and included picture updates, emails and phone calls. He made it through after being there for three days and was put on a prescription diet (which they easily adjusted the language when I ran into issues filling). Thank you! Experience 2, vet Elizabeth Germaine: The biological brother to my previous cat came down with the same symptoms with urinary blockage just about a month after our first experience. Because we had just gone through this, I knew what to look for and that it was key to clear the blockage as quickly as possible. So I called OSV ahead and said "my male cat has a urinary blockage that had just started, I know prompt treatment is best, can you unblock him". I brought him in, they did a quick triage and the vet tech came out and said "you were right, he is blocked" and explained next steps including a catheter and unblocking. Once the veterinarian took over, everything went down hill. Her demeanor right away was uncaring, non personal and completely disassociated. I'm going to try to keep a long miserable story short and hit the highlights. I requested a different vet, and was informed there were no other vets. My son and I were there for hours, not allowed to see our cat, thinking he had been unblocked, told we had to come up with the funds for a bill that was at least twice as much for a 1 day stay as our other cat was there for multiple days. I questioned this and was given "well it's a Sunday". In my state of concern for the cat, taking care of my son who had spilled his hot drink and burned himself (which she barely even rolled out of the way so I could easily access the cold water sink) she asked me about his last bowel movement, which I told her was recent. Then she decided he needed an x-ray for a bowel obstruction. Once I found out that they actually had NOT unblocked him towards the end (mind with urinary blockage every hour counts and could be life or death) I just wanted him unblocked so I could take him elsewhere. I have PetMedic urgent care to thank for saving his life, they were able to offer multiple medications to give him at home to keep him comfortable while determining next steps where OSV offered none. My further disgust was I was still unclear why they had taken multiple x-rays of his stomach when I brought him in stating "urinary blockage" and the vet tech confirmed "urinary blockage" at the start of the visit. I tried reaching out after our cat was taken care of elsewhere to discuss this by phone, voicemail, and email. I tried calling and asking for a member of the board of directors, the receptionist responded as if she'd never heard of a board of directors and sent me to billing. Billing sent me the "notes" that were one sided from the same vet we worked with highlighting my "money concerns". I have paid for accurate care elsewhere. After a few attempts I decided this wasn't worth my time. I felt taken advantage of and the lack of communication, service, and accountability was disgusting and disgraceful. I'm a single mother who knew EXACTLY what was wrong with our cat before bringing him in, had it confirmed, and a condition where time is of the essence, was misled and mistreated. The service that PetMedic Urgent care offered in comparison, was far better than OSV. So my main complaints on this second visit were: not being offered a different vet when requesting one (highly doubt they only had 1 vet in that building), prolonging treating the immediate concern for their own benefit, misleading me into unnecessary and multiple x-rays, not allowing me to see my cat at all, and not answering my multiple (and multiple formats of communication) to express my concerns about the service on this visit. read more

Run, Run, Run Away from this medical facility!!! I brought my cat to get an echo-cardiogram of his heart. Four (4) days later he died at OSVH without the testing being done. They kept telling me tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow...it never happened. They took approximately $3000.00 of my money and never performed the testing. They withheld the medical records for months from me after I requested them. Why? Did they alter them? DON'T TRUST THESE PEOPLE!!! I brought his records to my vet and she IMMEDIATELY said they overdosed him with a medication which put him into kidney failure, then heart arrhythmia, that led to a heart attack that killed him. He was left in the care of a student vet tech who should not have been treating him. She is no longer working there. She killed my cat. I hate these people and I will never forget the incompetency of the personnel there and how they killed my cat. This has scarred me for life! Hi Abby K, Responding to your claim that any vitals were taken of my dog. First big clue that no examination was made was your vet coming in and calling my female dog a male. That might be the first thing one notices after giving a dog an examination which she supposedly had just done. That made it clear to me that the vet did no kind of examination whatsoever. Also I asked if she had a fever and got no response. But if your claims are correct and she was given an exam. Why didn't I get any of that information? That's what I'm used to when I go to a real bonafide vet center, is when I go, I get a list of what her vitals were. So if this happened, you should be able to tell me some basics. I brought my French Bulldog, Stella, to Ocean State ER on Saturday evening around 5 PM, and we were there for a total of five hours. Despite Stella visibly shaking, panting, and hunched over in pain, the veterinarian showed very little urgency or compassion. When we were finally seen after 4 1/2 hours, the vet was noticeably short and dismissive. The moment I mentioned that Stella wasn't currently on heartworm prevention, their entire demeanor changed. It felt judgmental and unprofessional. I explained that Stella has a known history of IVDD (diagnosed through their own neurology department), yet the vet brushed it off and said she "looked fine," even though she was clearly uncomfortable. They offered expensive tick-borne illness bloodwork, which I declined because Stella already has her annual vet appointment scheduled this week where that will be done. After declining, I noticed a distinct change in tone from the vet. When checking out, I realized Stella had only been prescribed one week of pain medication, and when I asked about it, I was told the doctor "didn't feel comfortable" providing more since I had declined the bloodwork -- something that had nothing to do with her IVDD pain. To top it off, when I politely asked the vet how long it would take to fill Stella's medication (because I planned to have my husband take her home so she wouldn't have to sit in the waiting room any longer), the vet responded with, "I don't know, I have a ton of patients," and walked out the door. After a five-hour wait with an animal in obvious pain, I left feeling disrespected, dismissed, and deeply disappointed. I expected compassion and professionalism from a 24-hour emergency clinic -- especially one that's part of a network that already knows my dog's medical history. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. The doctors name was Montana Campbell and I have already been in contact with their liaison at this Animal Hospital. I do want to point out how lovely the receptionist were to me despite everything else I went through I will never be going back here. Ever. I would also like to add that I just left my regular vet. All of her blood work was good and they gave me a months worth of medicine and seemed to genuinely care about me and Stella. I highly recommend West Greenwich Animal Hospital. It won't let me reply directly to Abby so I do want to add. I understand ERs take a long time. My point was that I was there for five hours and hardly got any help and was mistreated and disrespected. Also nowhere in my review did I say she was feeling better. I said that her blood work came back normal after your veterinarian tried to push expensive blood work onto me when we weren't there for that and it had zero to do with Stella's back. Funny... everytime we spoke to her she went out of her way to compliment us on the exceptional care we had given our cat. My experience with this clinic and Dr. Block, who is the owner or partial owner of these facilities, was such that I would never go to any facility under like management! I really like the other place down Rt 2 which I believe is called VEG; it is open concept so you can see what is happening with your animal at all times and the people working there are much more professional, courteous and compassionate than what I experienced at Ocean State Vet. read more

While some folks may say they find this place expensive, I will add that for the care they get, it is worth every single penny you spend when your pet needs emergency services. My girl just had surgery to clean up an infection after a melanoma surgery at our local vet and thanks to the care and dedication by the surgeons and staff at Ocean State, my girl is finally on her way to recovery. I went here last year, after a sick visit and some worrisome lab results for my dog at usual vet. The care at ocean state was hands down the best care I've received for my dog. Elizabeth was incredibly kind and patient, explaining previous lab and reasoning behind wanting to retest. She explained everything step by step, answering all of my questions. I wanted her as my regular vet for my dog! I had never been to an animal hospital before, and I was worried about the cost, but for the visit and bloodwork PLUS medication, was the same cost for a sick visit and blood work at my vet, Tiogue. I have since switched vets realizing I should not be paying hospital prices at my vet, and not even getting this level of care. Thank you. After I explained the situation to my regular vet I was told I needed to call Ocean State Veterinary Services. When I did they told me that what was going on with them was an emergency and I needed to bring them in immediately. So I drove an hour to the animal hospital, gave them my gerbils, waited over an hour, and then they bring me into a room to tell me that they called the small animal specialist after the exam and he said to just put neosporin on the injury and leave them alone. They then charged me $300 for that. THE DOCTOR FOR MY PETS WAS NOT EVEN IN THE BUILDING!!! Then I waited another hour to get my gerbils back, despite the fact that they weren't treating them at all. They told me it was an emergency to get me there, told me a $5 solution (didn't give me neosporin either I had to buy it) and then charged me $300. I strongly recommend taking your pet elsewhere unless you have no other choice. It is generally ideal for the vet to SEE THE PETS THEY ARE PRESCRIBING TREATMENT FOR! read more

Took my cat there because he was constipated, they said it would be 4k. Upfront. I charged it with a credit card. It happened a year later and I googled the situation. Then went on Amazon and bought pet enema. 4 syringe for 25 dollars. It said for veterinary use, cats and dogs. I did it and it dissolved it in like 1 minute. And he went to the bathroom. Do your research. They just want your money . There not going to tell you that you can buy what there using. They are probably buying there's from Amazon also. Do your homework. read more

Every time I have had to take my pets to this Hospital it's been during some sort of crisis. It may take a while to be seen but once I am the care is second to none. Multiple options have been given to me for various treatments of my pets. There is no judgment just gentle suggestions and quick answers to any questions I may have. Working in an emergency animal hospital cannot be easy but this team of professionals does the absolute best job they possibly can. They are constantly dealing with emergencies, crying clients, and very sick patients. In order to be in this profession especially in this Avenue of it you have to be an animal lover. OSVS is the best place to bring your pet in an emergency! We have used their services at all times of the day and night for various emergency situations with our cats, and we have always had an amazing experience there. The team is compassionate, professional, and they always take the time to educate us and give us the space to make informed decisions regarding our pets' care. Additionally, we found ourselves in need of a specialist when one of our cats was diagnosed with cancer. The internal medicine team was so incredible, and because of their efforts, we were able to have much more quality time with our boy than we initially thought we would have. Brought our dog here for a xray, we were told that he was going right back for the xray . 2 hours later I asked what was going on with my dog it only takes 10 minutes to do an xray, we were told he was still waiting in the cue. No one ever talked to us about what was going on, and where did they put my dog for 3 hours they should have left him in waiting room with us until they were going to do the xray. Looooong waits, rude staff, inexperienced vets, filthy waiting room, expensive, unnecessary tests etc etc etc If you want your beloved pet to have top notch care in their time of need...RUN to Tufts in N Grafton! I would never take a dog here again. Not only did they not do anything for my dog, I spent extra money on blood tests that needed to be sent out and Never got a call about the results. The vet I spoke to told me my dog was eating and looked 100% better after a 2 night inpatient stay. I took him home only to have to put him down the next day. They only care about money and not the animals. I am very disappointed and disgusted. Also, the vet tech that did the discharge couldn't answer my questions about medication which was confusing. They also discharged my dog saying he ate aggressively and that was not true as my dog wouldn't touch food. I would try to avoid this place at all costs. They take your money and hand you back a dying dog they knew they couldn't save. After almost a year in the care of Ocean State Veterinary Specialists, Oncology, our boy Henry sadly lost his fight. Dr. Caleb Alexander and his assistant, Lynn, were kind and compassionate in their care of Henry throughout the many months of treatment and check ups. Dr. Alexander always answered all our questions and made sure we were clear and comfortable with the treatments Henry received. He was as compassionate with us as he was with Henry. We developed a relationship based on respect and a true understanding of our relationship with our beloved Henry. When it was time to end Henry's journey, he was truly kind and compassionate. I wouldn't have wanted any other Vet to send Henry to a better place. We truly appreciate the care we received, and would highly recommend Dr. Alexander and his staff. read more

We unfortunately ended up there as an emergency in the middle of the night. All of the staff were incredibly kind and empathetic. Our 16 year old cat ended up having to be put down, but I felt comfortable and reassured by their competence and warm presence. No one wants to be in that situation, but I'm grateful for their treatment and patience during that difficult time. My beautiful dog happened to display signs of illness on New Year's Day. Obviously being a holiday my vet was closed as were most. While I am grateful Ocean State was open, my two day experience with them was eye raising. My yorkie was displaying signs of lethargy and had vomited once. I took her to this vet hospital and she was viewed by a doctor. She said they would do blood work and X-rays. Once this was done I was told an ultrasound should also be done, but because it was a holiday, my dog should stay overnight for observation and be given inter-venous liquid and pain medication because the X-ray showed signs of intestinal irregularities. I was then given the bill which showed low end and high end costs. Next day the ultrasound was done. She had pancreatitis so the doctor recommended she stay another night for continued observation and care. I asked what the cost would be and she looked over my initial invoice. She said that I was still in the range of the initial $1580 so I was fine with this. I was also told that I would get updated phone calls regarding my dog's stay. This never happened. Anytime I called to get an update, I was put on Hold for at least 10 minutes. On the 3rd day I called and they said she's still not eating and maybe she should stay another day. What?? My pup is a high anxiety dog and I said, "no. I'm picking her up and we'll see how she does at home." Long story but when I got there to pick her up, the bill was quite higher. When I asked to speak with someone to go over the bill, that took another 45 minutes of me waiting. All the while I am sitting there anxiously waiting to get my poor dog who was sitting in a cage in the back room. The bill was never explained or adjusted. I just wanted to get my dog back. The technicians are nice. The meds for my dog were still messed up because they said they would give compound as opposed to pills but they didn't. They never once followed up with a phone call to ask how my dog is doing since her release from their care. What? End of the Day, if your pet happens to get sick on a holiday or after hours, you are at the Mercy of the only hospital open in RI that's open 24/7. While there IS such a facility, they need to focus more on customer service if they're going to charge their exorbitant fees. She's been home a week now and thankfully she's doing well. read more
