From the director down they know and live what they are share. That being said it wasn't all rainbows and lollipops in the beginning issues came up personality conflict, skaters, a narcissist, sprinkle a little bigotry and toss in some good of fashion drama and that describes every addict I have ever meet. "Hurt people, hurt people" The Way Back isn't that run of the mill treatment facility it is a home and the staff treat you like family. They are caring and fair. Not stupid or nieve you can't get on over on them. You get out what you put it. If you want help and are willing to put in the work they are all in on giving the space and support you will need to get it right. I'll say this if you are looking to just get the legal system off your back and you are not ready to change don't take a bed in this house you can take up space somewhere else there is a waitlist and t People who need and want it it's ok not to be ready when your are circle back they will have open arms ready for you

Oh man. Where to start.... I truly believed this was a life…read morechanging program. But after realizing over a period of time that they are nowhere near what I thought, I'm updating the experience. (Although I still don't believe the previous review about sage and still think he was covering his actions) They allow people to drink and when asked say "we know who's doing what" nonchalantly. That's pretty wild. They allow people to stay in the program even when they are found with drugs AND high. They will only allow someone to stay if they can sweep it under the rug. If it's a big show and cops or any other public incident they will make you leave and discharge you and threaten to get you in trouble. I genuinely had SUCH high hopes. But they don't treat patients/clients equally. They allow counselors to break HIPAA, twist peoples words, and talk about personal things that shouldn't be discussed in a work or professional environment. Adult topics specifically to clients families. Inappropriate! They don't even give warnings or tell you that you might be kicked out for something that is beyond your control. They expect you to just know. They allow families to come by and drop off clothes, supplies, etc but then they'll suddenly switch up and say you could be bringing drugs and use that as a final reason to discharge you. They allow weapons on the property (or just don't pay attention when someone brings a weapon, either way NEGLIGENCE) to the extent that people get injured. When told about a relapse, they literally can and do just sweep it right under the rug. And then since they don't document things like that if they choose not to, the director basically calls you a liar. Fortunately I documented every single incident and issue. Crazy. 3 of the counselors are great. But higher ups and the other half of the staff need to figure out what consistency, fairness, and professionalism in a healthcare setting means. If you come here, you could probably get away with just about anything as long as they can pretend it didn't happen I am not only filing a grievance, but reporting them to CDPH, DMHC, DOI, DHCS. Especially the last one (department of healthcare services).

The staff did an excellent job managing my medications, assisting with my recovery, and making sure my needs were met every day. They even arranged vegetarian meals for me, which I truly appreciated. Whenever I needed help, the call button was answered promptly and professionally, and the staff consistently maintained a high standard of care and compassion. I would absolutely recommend Golden Hill Acute Care to anyone needing rehabilitation or nursing care for themselves or a loved one. A very special shout out to Nurse Alex A.! She was always on top of the 14 or so medications I take daily and took the time to explain each one to me, including possible side effects and symptoms. She carefully monitored the healing of my surgery and broken leg and went above and beyond in her care and attention. Alex is truly an exceptional nurse and proves that some people are genuinely born to care for others. Thank you again to the staff at Golden Hill Acute Care for helping me through such an important stage of my recovery. The location itself is terrible. It is small, and the parking is insanely small, and hard to get out, because it's connected to an alley way. The rooms are not really sound proof, and you can hear outside noises (concerned for my privacy). I am not fond of the entrance, it has stairs, it's close to a street intersection, and when you enter you might hit someone because the front desks are situated there as well. It's a poor layout, but I was told by my therapist that there's a new construction site beginning somewhere late spring of 2017, for their new office. Despite the bad construction design, the people who work here are definitely doing their jobs (5 stars on that one).

While the front desk and check in staff are friendly, the therapists and psychiatrists were something else. But then again... after spending years after years being in med/grad school, this gives them the right to do that, no? So just go along with whatever diagnosis they give you... After all, you don't know best about yourself. These doctors who've spent their whole life in front of textbooks and paying $$$ to tuition apparently know more about you than you. So come on in, and hope your insurance covers it.
