I tried to order a gift for a friend. I ordered it and got a delivery date. I called my friend to see if she got it and it never was delivered. Apparently the card didn't go through but I never received a notice even though I had a confirmation number and a delivery date. So I went into the store and they refused to give me the same price. They wanted to charge me 130.00 more. Even though I went right to the store when I finally found out it wasn't processed and I showed them my order and the price. They did nothing to help and their customer service sucked. I ended up going to the manufacture and ordering it again and I got it at the price I wanted and the manufacturer told me when it was going to be delivered and they wrapped the gift!! Your store is lovely, but there is room for improvement. Im writing not to make a big deal but you need to improve your service. read more

Beware Crate & Barrel in-home "design" service: We had someone from the store come to our house in East Corte Madera to help us pick out a sectional. Due to the way they designed the configuration it was "custom and not returnable" - however when it arrived the scale was so enormous that I tried to refuse delivery. When I worked very patiently with the in store associates to resolve the issue, they were even willing to send someone to the house but later admitted that corporate is "cracking down" and even though the manager admitted she would have suggested something different and the original "design consultant" who came to our home had no design experience (she told me this herself when she was at our house) their design team decided that "in line with corporate policy" they would refuse a return. I have written to their corporate office with no response and am now stuck with an eye sore which cost $4,600. It is so innapropiate for the home in every way that I now have it listed for sale here and on Craig's List. Crate & Barrel does not stand behind their in-home design service so buyer beware - this service does not prevent you from making huge mistakes and when mistakes are made they do not stand with the consumer, they stand for profits only. Too bad as I would have continued using Crate & Barrel for years to come and my trust is now gone. read more

We used to like this store... Came in a couple weeks ago and the whole vibe had changed. It feels like C&B is hurting for business. Every associate, in every dept., hovered and asked if we needed help. That's fine, but it clearly was a different approach. We were there to add to our dish stash but couldn't find them on the shelves. There was no attempt to see if they might be out of stock, or they aren't selling them anymore. My visit started out good - just looking around for inspiration for my bedroom redesign. I was with a friend, and after we sat down on a couch to test how comfortable it was, we encountered an elderly employee who told us (in a very condescending tone), "Are you two actually here to buy something?" I'm not sure if it was our appearance or something else, but she definitely wanted us out. I turned and asked my friend what the object we were looking at was, and the employee interrupted with "It's a martini set." While looking at me with a "you're stupid" face. Me and my friend walked away, towards the bed area, but we noticed the employee stealthily following and watching us. We left without buying anything. read more

I was so happy to see they sell SMEG and I splurged on this cream SMEG set! I've honestly never been more happy making coffee, toast, tea and smoothies. The little joy it brings daily is worth it. RUDE - just rude. Horrible service in the Corte Madera store. My son is moving into a new place. We went into the store and sat down on a chair and sofa. The salesperson asked if we needed help, we politely declined. After we had been sitting for less than 2 minutes, she approached and asked if we were X name and had we called about a specific chair. I said politely, no that wasn't us. She then walked over and stood over us. We got up and left. Her co-worker said "we are supposed to ask if you need help - that is our job". It is also your job to let people shop themselves if they do not want assistance. I will never patronize this store again. read more

I brought back a set of plates that I had purchased 3 days prior to exchange for the same plates with a different level of gloss. They wouldn't accept them because I took the stickers off, even though they hadn't been used and were 3 days old and I only wanted an even exchange. UPDATE: I'm impressed that C&B actually responded to my review, which shows to me that they actually care about the customer experience. So when another designer, Rose, did reach out to me, I decided to give them another shot. I'm glad I did. Rose was wonderful, pleasant and easy to work with. She came to measure our house, then we met at CB for her to show us the products she recommended. She listened well and gave us terrific suggestions. We ended up ordering a dining set, counter stools, sectional, chairs, rug, and more because of her excellent customer service. We will definitely ask for her again when we are in need of more furnishings. The only criticism I have now of the C&B home design program is that a significant percentage of the products we were interested in were not available to see/try out in person in store. I understand the space issue so wouldn't take a star off for that, but it would be nice to be able to try out furniture before ordering it, especially since many items are "custom" and non-returnable. Overall, though, I'm back to be being a happy C&B customer. I've been back twice since purchasing the furniture to get other home goods and have had excellent customer service both times too. read more

I went to this store this past Saturday with both of my sister's and our mom. Of course we don't fit the "typical" Marin look and when my sister came into the store, she was getting something at Sephora while we went into Crate & Barrel. She was telling us about what happened at Sephora and a lady at the store just looked at us like we were trash. She was wearing a 2Pac hoodie and not sure if that had something to do with this employee reacted. We weren't being loud and when I saw the lady approach us, not say anything, and give us a nasty look, I was done. We quickly left the store and I was so upset. I have lived in Marin my whole life and have always defended the myth that people in Marin are uptight and judgemental so it was very disappointing to experience this. We were going to make a purchase but after that experience, we had to leave the store. Super disappointing. read more

Warning Fraud. Do not sign up for a Crate and barrel card at this store. I signed up for one on January 16, 2020. The very next day, fraudulent charges in excess of $1,400 were made to my account. The charges were made through their Naperville, Illinois store. I found out when I received my first bill. I called the fraud hotline. They promised to take care of it. I still received charges in March and called again. Synchrony Bank sent a fraud form and I filled it out then sent it back. I still got charged in April and now in May. What a disaster and total waste of my time. It's an inside scam. The clerk tells you that you get all these great things with the card when in actuality, she's working with the clerk in Naperville to steal from customers. Don't do it. Don't go to the store. I've been to several C&B. This is the best so far. Why? First, the single story layout is great, with the furniture on one side and the kitchen items on the other side. Second, the kitchen items are nicely displayed and although they have a lot, it does not seem crowded or overstocked. There are the colorful seasonal Items interspersed with the basic items in a logical and attractive fashion. Third, the staff is helpful; more specifically, available if you need them but no pressure and no "hovering" or "following" which, unfortunately, I did experience at another nearby store, which I will not name here, but which is known for really nice items that are pricey. Anyway, this C&B is great and I highly recommend it!! read more

I went into the store today to return a chair that I borrowed and paid for in full so I could see how the chair would look in my home. I went to the back of the store where I originally picked up the chair to make the return and the lady there told me that she is with another customer, it will take awhile for her to help this other customer, and to find someone else to help me. Really? I had to carry and lug this chair around the store to find someone else to help me. Instead of saying, I'll be right with you as soon as possible after I help this other customer, she told me to find someone else to help me because she was busy. Clearly she hasn't been trained properly in customer service and her skills are extremely lacking. But, then again, that's why she works in retail and not at a tech company. I'm being sarcastic but serious. I wish I got her name. She gave me attitude when she saw me carrying the chair towards her. If I were crate & barrel, I would re-train her again. She has no customer service skills whatsoever and was rude in my opinion. She's an older lady working in the back area. If you run into her, don't expect her to help you! read more

Absolutely pathetic service. Walked in to buy a rug and order furniture. Stood in front of rugs for 15 min. There were no prices just "samples". None of the rugs on display were found online in app or website. Finally saw staff and asked for help. She said someone else would help. Waited 5 more min. That person came over with an iPad and said which rug, the gray one? Huh? There are about 30 rugs on the display many are gray. I said can't I get pricing for all these items so I can look at them at my own pace instead of finding you every time I want a price? After all I just waited 15 minutes on my own with no staff in sight. She looks at me with straight face and says "the company hasn't set that up yet". Huh?!? So I ask to speak with store manager and she says "he's over there" pointing across store. I walk over and find him and he is busy putting glasses away and says "someone will help you in a minute" and walks away. I wait for 5 min and nobody shows up. Finally find a different store manager and ask to be contacted by district manager. I give this store an F. Absolutely awful service and they are selling very expensive furnishings. How do you lose a couch??? After 6 months of waiting and an extra 2 week delay. A custom design couch was lost in delivery!!! How the frack does that happen? How does a company this large lose a couch. I can't wrap my head around it, it's unfathomable. There's a no return policy on custom made pieces and we have yet to receive it. "Give us our delivery fee back, offer to loan us another couch", why are these offers made by the company something that is supposed to make this experience better? I loved this location! If I don't shop online, I would definitely visit this location. Most of the time, I was able to find what I was looking for with some help from the team. Everyone was very helpful and would try their best to make sure you get what you need. However the wait time at the cash register always was the one reason I couldn't give it 5 stars. It was just never a quick wait, even there was no line! I've ordered some products online and went there for a pick-up. I've got to say, those guys were pretty quick. The pick-up section is NOT in store, but on the side that you have to ring the bell and someone will come out to greet you. Weird, but the whole process can take a couple minutes. When my custom sofa arrived (months later due to COVID-no fault of the store's or the design consultant), I had to return it because of a rip in the upholstery. NO PROBLEM. Purchased a dining table and was told it was "In Stock" and will be delivered May 9th. It's now June 5th, and hasn't even shipped - ETA keeps changing and is now "Mid July" and "Late July". My credit card was charged though... so they took the money for it but haven't even started to process the product I purchased? Just to be clear: Yes there are ongoing shortages, my issue is that the store told us the item was In Stock, and that there would be no delays. When I called they repeatedly said it was on schedule and there would be no delays. Yes there is a shortage, but you need to set the right expectation - this store wasted our time. read more

I love their kitchen stuff. Furniture for kids rooms and the rest of the house is really good quality. I've bought so furniture and it's stood up to family and pets. And I've had great service with designing furniture. one kitchen table had a serious defect - one phone call and a new delivery date was set. Days later a new table was in - Boom - that's why I choose to spend my money there. But it's hit or miss in terms of people in the store having good customer service skills and understanding of policies. A few outstanding people have made me come back, again and again. But, the person who I recently had an interaction with really soiled my view. I'm easy going, def not high not maintenance or rude to employees. Not my style. I had been walking around for over 15 minutes looking for kitchen appliances or an employee to help me. This is the exact exchange: an employee asked if they could help me, my response to her was "Yes, I'm happy to see you. I've been looking for 15 minutes for a person to help or the waffle irons in kitchen appliances" her response, in a condescending tone in: "you meant to say waffle *maker*?" I just walked off. Dumbfounded that an employee would talk like that. I learned she's a new manager, which makes me want to hold her to a higher standard. Employees will watch and emulate their boss So, I purchased my waffle iron/maker somewhere else. The need to correct a customer for a term that is used interchangeably (and rudely) made me feel pretty crappy , instead of "sorry you've been looking for help for 15 minutes" she felt the need to pick on one word...so I walked and chose to spend my money elsewhere. Btw - It was a Wed about noon - they were not busy. I've shopped a lot there, kids furniture, sheets, comforters, but need a break. Home: dining table, couch, ottoman, tables etc. One nasty remark can leave a bad taste in a customers experience. And she left a really bad tase. But..I want to still love this store. After waiting nearly 2 months, got some of the furniture. The table arrived cracked and now we were told that it's 2 weeks to get returned and then refunded. I could have built a table by now. PREVIOUS REVIEW: Don't be fooled by their marketing tricks! We were lured into getting their credit card for the 10% rewards. We spent more than $5000 and received $500 in rewards only to learn that we lost more than $250 of the rewards money because we didn't read the tiny print at the bottom. We were supposed to spend all the reward money at once and apparently forfeited the rest of the amount. I am so disappointed in the deceitful practices of Crate and Barrel's credit card. read more

It pains me to share such a negative experience I had with a store chain that I would normally hold in high regard. A couple months ago, we visited this C&B location to purchase some furniture for our place. We were expecting a guest to stay with us and needed the items delivered sooner than later. We were advised that there had been significant logistical delays and that some items might take longer if they weren't in stock. With that in mind, we asked the associate to direct us to items that they had in stock and were ready to ship so we would have to wait. She showed us a few items and after checking which ones were in stock we finally settled on one that had a less than ideal material but was "in stock and ready to ship"; I'm not sure why they would use that status for this item because it has now been TWO MONTHS since we originally purchased the item. We contacted customer service multiple times and were given the generic "logistics delay" explanation despite the fact that we were told the item was actually "in stock". When we pointed this out to the representative, they told us they "didn't know what to say" and that we would be notified with any updates via email. At this point, the delivery date for our order has been moved back 4 times. C&B has always been pretty good with most items and this was by far the most expensive thing we've purchased from them; so the level of indifference from every customer service representative we've spoken to about the matter is shocking. Not sure if we'll be going back to C&B for any items we can't walk out of the store with on that same day from now on. I would advise anyone to think twice before spending thousands of dollars here! read more

Crate & Barrel is a popular place to register if you are getting married!! Three upcoming weddings, and every-single-one-of-them is registered here. I order online and came in for pick up. Both times, the online ordering process was a breeze, and pick up at this location couldn't be easier. My only complaint is that I wish the "gift wrapping/packaging" was nicer than a cardboard box with Crate & Barrel labeled on it. read more

Just had an extremely unfortunate experience at the Crate & Barrel in Corte Madera. We arrived at the store to shop for a dining table and chairs. We were notified shortly after we arrived by Ed that the store was closing in 10 mins. This is not the type of customer service one would expect from a high end retailer. I've never been asked to leave a store. While we talked the design associate (who was extremely pleasant and helpful) someone else asked if we were going to pay cash or credit, as they were in the process of closing the registers. The entire staff started to gather around the cash wrap nearby watching us while we continued to talk with the design consultant. Ed came back at 6 promptly to notify us that the store was closed. We explained that we wanted to take a quick look at the dining chairs before we left. He proceeded to follow us to that area and and watch us. Because we felt so uncomfortable, we left. I mentioned to him that I found his behavior to be inappropriate and pushy. To which Ed responded that he told us the store was closing. I was so surprised by his abrasive behavior that I asked for his name. He pushed the door closed on me and would not respond to my request. I tried to open the door to ask again and he would not budge, answer me or even look at me. He was obviously a manager and setting an extremely poor example for the other employees the store watching the entire experience. I can not recommend this store if that's the way they choose to treat their customers. I am very involved in my community and work in a client based industry. I will be sharing this extremely unpleasant experience any opportunity I have. We are now at Pottery Barn picking out a table, chairs and a couch with the help of their awesome design associate and receiving excellent customer service. read more

Great store with pretty awesome customer service. My wife and I have been shopping here since it opened in the Town Center. It's been one of my go to places for both home and work related projects. Everyone we've worked with here at the Corte Madera store over the years has been super friendly and helpful. It's a good sized store with a lot of well laid out display areas and imaginative room set ups. The only problem is their available stock inventory. If you're looking for multiples of certain items (like pillows), they tend to only have a few on hand requiring your to order additional ones. They're perfectly willing to order them for you but sometimes you need things a little faster than that takes. Overall, this is a great place to shop or just be inspired by the many varied and wonderful products and displays. read more

I came here this afternoon and I asked for a la cresuat fryin pan in a certain color and the sales person behind the counter wrapping the item for another customer was not helpful to me, didn't bother to help me. I stood there for 30 minutes after she said that she was going to help me. She helped another person standing next to me, but not me. I was frustrated to the point where I just left the store! I have worked in retail and ignoring a customer is never a good idea and the prices they charge is the same as other stores. I am not coming back to shop here after today! read more

I have been waiting for months for the new Crate and Barrel to open across the highway from it's old location at The Village. The bigger and better store does not disappoint! They have so much more, especially in the furniture section, particularly in the bedroom and furniture area. The old kitchen classics are of course on display, with even shinier appliances ready to be taken home. The staff is really accommodating and very friendly, I've already been in twice since they opened, which was very recently. read more

The service sucks here! Is this store managed? Such a beautiful store. You are greeted with a modern display of orange & white visual deliciousness. The furniture is interesting and much was my style. This brand is no longer about kitchen though. It does have its selection of high end knives & pans. a tiny bit of crockery, etc. Furniture and accessories are what pays the bills now-a-days. It is at the higher end too. Semi custom in most cases. So, why, in this troubled economy, when even South Marinites are watching their wallets and the stock market plummets, is the staff SO DAMN LAZY? Are they sales people? Are they trying to sell anything or just watching the clock until they can get over to Safeway on their way home? I mean seriously! Come on! I was never greeted. THEN, I was in the store over a half an hour, watched four sales people pass me, alone, clearly avoiding eye contact with me. Like they could not be bothered. When I finally tracked down a low-blood sugared employee, and asked him about carpets, he walked me over to them, grunted, pointed in their direction and left me. Nice job. Carpets are $700 and up, most at $1,000+. You do not have to crawl down my throat, but come on, sales courtesy, please. I dealt with one other person about some outdoor furniture. I had to approach her. THEN, she waited for me to enlighten her with my request. She gave me a half hearted answer and explained that they really had nothing at this store because there was no warehouse. The whole thing was disheartening. There were several people working, yet no one even tried to assist me. No greeting at the door, though several workers were talking to each other. When I walked to the rear of the store, I looked obviously like I needed assistance and 2 women workers were talking to each other, looked at me, then continued their conversation. As I made my way back to the front door to get the h_ll out of there, I passed several more sales people who had more to do than sell such as talk to each other, stare into space, etc. NEVER AGAIN at this location. The manager , if present today, should be ashamed. If not, he/she should send in a "mystery shopper". read more

I really like this Crate & Barrel. I chose C&B for our registry since we weren't really doing a big wedding and just wanted some basics on the list if people did ask. Since we are a little older we had lots of the essentials in our home already, it seemed silly and extravagant to do a registry at anything more high end. I like their dishes, bake ware, appliances, carpets and home decor, and the silverware selection. That was important to me. My most grown up registry item was getting a FULL, coordinating set of silverware. Not a mismatch of Ikea, forks clearly stolen from airplane first class meals, and potluck orphans! The set I chose is perfect for us, the design is super nice and made somewhere other than China. I was tempted to do Heath ceramics for their beautiful USA manufactured silverware, but actually didn't like the design enough to go with it. Everyone that works here was exceptionally pleasant, and we had a lot of fun during one of their registry events, when they close the store to the public, serve refreshments, give you little scanners to build your list, and have brand reps. there to demo various appliances. I haven't had any furniture ordered from this location, but I am looking at (daydreaming about) a media unit for our house from C&B. I would prob. not get custom upholstery done here, I may shop more locally from a store in Berkeley that offers a bit more customization. I do think the mark up on furniture is a bit steep for the quality, but it sure does seem competitive with what's our there. Better than West Elm, Ikea, and EQ3, imho. read more

The rugs I purchased were high quality, and look fantastic! The store sales person was quite helpful in guiding me to the right selection for an area rug and runner. The only negative was the delivery service. It took two months to deliver the rugs, and then the delivery crew explained that they would not lift the foot of my bed to roll out the rug. Later, a friend helped me (I'm 66 years old) to lift the foot of the bed and install the carpet ourselves. I must add one positive note to this episode. Subsequently, the same sales person listened to my complaint and promised to convey my suggestion on how the delivery service could be improved.
