World Market is a fun experience that I can always spend an hour in if I allow myself the time! Although I'm not big on consumerism and "stuff", there are always good quality finds in here. The international foods, the kitchen towels and supplies, the cute home decor things that don't look mass produced. All very charming. This World Market is in Greenbrea, CA, and right off the Redwood Highway. I'm not a local resident. But I sure do like to stop in and check out the inventory. I'm a long time World market customer, and huge fan of their merchandise. This location has a pretty large inventory ranging from furniture (living room, dining, desks), home decor, curtains, rugs, beer and wine, imported food, jewelry, kitchenware, gift items, etc. The shopping center parking lot is a hot mess though. Especially on the weekends, there seem to be more customers than parking spaces. Plus since there is only one way in and out, and the street has no designated turn lane, it causes a bottleneck on entering and exiting. Heck it even takes awhile to walk from the parking lot into the shop because the cars just don't seem to want to stop for pedestrians. Too busy jockeying for a space. read more

Came here to get a few things as a pick me up. The store is clean and has a lot of great items to either start a new hobby or experience something yummy from around the world. Unfortunately, the service is not part of the fun experience. Most cashiers are rude and aren't friendly. One cashier I had was very friendly but her colleagues spoke down on her like she was not up to par in front of 3 of us being rung up. Extremely unprofessional and uncomfortable to watch. read more

I used to love Cost Plus as a kid and as I grew up. They always had the most interesting things from around the world at the cheapest prices. Well these days nothing is cheap anymore and over the years (and esp since the pandemic,) they don't have as much merch anymore. But it's still a fun place to go especially if you're looking for specialty foods from around the world. If you're a chocoholic like me, they have chocolates from all over Europe. My particular weakness has always been the original Cadbury chocolate from England (trust me, it's so much better than American Cadbury) They also have a lot of specialty teas, spices, sauces, you name it. Right now is a great time to go for foodie Christmas gifts, as they have a great variety and some things you cannot find in most other places. Also worth mentioning, they have an entire separate room for wines / alcohol. I wanted to give a special shout out and thank you to a sweet employee there named Bobby. My hands were full of goodies that I wasn't planning on buying and he walked up to me with a hand basket and a smile saying he didn't want me to drop my phone with my hands full. He held the basket as I put my things in then handed it to me. He introduced himself, gave me a fist bump and told me to have a wonderful day. What a sweet person. read more

This store has every Christmas knick knack or thing you may need for holiday entertaining but I think they may need to better train their seasonal staff. Was just there buying stocking stuffers plus a ceramic (read:breakable) ornaments the cashier who was being trained was clearly trying hard to do things right so I forgive him for not being super engaging or wrapping up my ornament. But the teenaged guy training him was overly engaged in training him, barely acknowledged me, and then when I said "hey can you wrap the ornament you stuck in the bag with everything else" the trainee begins wrapping it up while the trainer says "oh usually you can just put something like that in your purse". What?! Do YOU own a purse, dude? That's not his decision to make - I don't want to put a breakable ornament in my purse. I should have said something but I didn't. Anyway, store manager if you are reading this, please tell your young teen staff that common courtesy is to ask if customers want something wrapped up to avoid breakage or, at a minimum, not balk or make suggestions that they put stuff in their purses so the cashier doesn't have to wrap it up. read more

Came to buy a few essentials, was in the store all of 10 min and while in line looking for some items a staff member allowed a huge wooden pallet they were moving to fall over and make a noise as loud as a bomb go off inches from me. I'm a pretty hard person to scare and this is was insane to experience. If you go in here expect the staff to be rude, uncoordinated, and unsafe. A "sorry" from a staff member for this kind of accident to be able to take place is not enough to excuse. I don't know maybe they are being overworked or stressed out here? I ordered a rug online line for in-store pickup. You get an email confirming the order and says don't come to the store until you get a message. Never got any response so I called. A girl told me that her supervisor was looking for the rug and that she would call me back. Of course, she never called back. A second call to the store a girl said she did not know anything about the rug and if it was in stock I would have heard from them - no let me go ask or anything. Finally later today I got a cancellation order. NOW I still do not know what this means - does it mean they don't have it in the store and that I would need to order it and have it delivered???????????????????????????? Since no one is interested in talking to me at the Corte Madera store I'll go buy a rug somewhere else. I don't have time to do their job for them and then pay for it. If you don't care - you can't expect customers to care. I will never attempt to shop there again. This is why brick and mortar stores will not survive. read more

Always a reliable store to do some holiday shopping. They have a wide array of gourmet goodies and gifts under $20. Furthermore, they have a nice selection of affordable decorations for the home. And as I mentioned in my previous review, you can pick up some toys and treats for the canine in your life. It's definitely an inexpensive alternative to Petco and other pet shops. Shopping options in Marin County are pretty limited. [BOY IS THAT AN UNDERSTATEMENT!] What I meant to say was that there is almost no shopping in Marin . . . . which makes Cost Plus look like a shoppers paradise. It really is a fairly small store with a limited selection (except for the wine selection - no surprises here since it's on the highway headed toward the wine country). Since I moved to Marin from a serious shoppers paradise (and I hate to shop, but I'm beginning to understand the opportunities I had before) I have had trouble finding anything without it becoming a major expedition. Well, Cost Plus doesn't have everything, but I have been able to find some things that I thought I was going to have to order from an online site or travel to another county, or perhaps country, to find. I was looking for 20 Japanese style paper lanterns w/battery operated lights for play props. I'd just about exhausted all possibilities from Sausalito to Novato, when someone suggested Cost Plus. And there they were . . . sitting on a shelf, 4 to a pack. Today I was looking for an old fashioned looking bottle for that same play (can you tell I'm responsible for props?) and I found it in Cost Plus. Yippee! Plus, on this trip I also found a great birthday card for a friend and a large bear-shaped container of animal cookies - for me! Four stars for carrying stuff that probably doesn't exist anywhere else in Marin, with the only loss of one star for location. Not easy to find and once you get in their parking lot it is almost impossible to get out -bad left turn across traffic and a awkward drive to get back on South 101. read more

This place is bad for my wallet. I never take a basket when shopping here, cause that would be a problem. Cost Plus is a great place to get some hard to find items from other countries or just some random items you didn't know you needed. I usually come here for teas, candies, chocolate, Torani syrups, dried foods, and lastly SCARFS. Oh the scarfs... I always get compliments on them and I always let them know to come to Cost Plus for them. And if you're an explorer member they send you lots of coupons, so you never REALLY have to pay the full price. My siblings like the clothing here also, cause they aren't something you would normally find in stores. Overall this place is always fun to wander around in if you need some time to kill... or feel the need to spend money. read more

I have loved this place for years. They carry so many things I would enjoy having in my home. Every time I walk in the store, it's like an exercise in self-control, I want so many items. This review, however, is specifically about their customer service, especially Tino's. He was the best. Give that man a raise! Seriously. He is the epitome of what it means to offer extraordinary customer service. I had ordered a swinging chair, and Tino brought it out to put it in my car. He said it wouldn't fit, but when I asked him to try anyway, he tired. Of course, he was right, but I'm stubborn, and I kept wanting to try different ways. He was so good natured about it. Again, he was right, and there was no way to get the item in my car. I decided not to get the item, after all, he took all the stuff back inside, then processed a cancellation of the order. Before I left, he suggested maybe a different chair, still a swinging chair, just a little different, would fit. I looked at the different chair, decided it would be fine, so said, ok. He went and got the new chair, then tried to put that in my car. It fit. Yay! He had already cancelled the whole order, so he had to ring it all up, again, then he was willing to help me figure out how to get the rest of the items into my car. Through all this, Tino was kind, patient, and friendly. While I tend to be pretty nice to people, especially when they're trying to help me, and I think I was in this case, that doesn't mean I was the easiest customer, which makes me appreciate how great Tino was all the more. There are some stores which have great items at reasonable prices, and there are some stores which have great customer service (although not as many as there used to be), but there aren't many places which have both. What started out as a pleasurable shopping experience (even during the midst of a extensive store remodel) turned into an ugly scene by a pathetic, self-entitled Marin mammy screaming at a poor female cashier because she didn't have large plastic bags to carry her damn woven baskets that she had just purchased. This is the sort of mentality we don't need more of in Marin County trust me! This was an out-of-control temper tantrum performed by full grown woman who deems herself as self-righteous and an elitist that does't care about nobody's feelings except her own. LADY this behavior may work with her your spineless/jellyfish husband, spoiled rotten kids and, fellow peon employees that you get your way with but, not for the rest of us who have to haphazardly listen to this dribble and diatribe with our children being present. GROW THE HELL UP! As she was leaving the store in discontent I cornered her (had to as I felt it was my duty) and, told her face that she was abusive, had problems, need help and, to be put over somebodies knee and spanked endlessly as this sort of behavior isn't conducive to the shopping experience that I want to experience at my favorite store with my child! She looked at me appalled and said nothing as I think she knew that I was right. In closing, this evil c*nt need to be dropped-kicked out the door and never allowed to return as she was verbally abusive not only the employees but to the manager as well. I am fond of Cost Plus on general principles. I have been looking for artificial flowers for an arrangement to fill a vase Alan bought me at Trove. I was visualizing wooden flowers from Indonesia and figured maybe Cost Plus would have them. Since we were over in Marin already we decided to stop at this location. It's been years since we were last here. I remember parking in this lot when my last car was brand new (this was in 1998) and being so paranoid that someone would hit it I parked way far away from anyone else. But I digress. They've fixed up the outside nicely since then. There are cool planters outside of various sizes that looked like crumpled paper sacks and there is sculpture-like metal railing. It's an attractive look. We walked in the store and were greeted by a friendly woman who directed us to the two places where the artificial flowers were, although they didn't have wooden ones. As we walked further into the store we were greeted by another very friendly woman, who led us to the flowers that weren't immediately visible. Very nice service. Alan sat in one of their leather chairs while I looked through the flowers. They have an interesting range of things, some fabric and some shells, but nothing really spoke to me so we left empty handed but w/ a very nice sense of the store. read more

haven't been to Cost Plus for years, usually it's the oaktown location. happened to past by this location. saw the wine tasting available sat & sundays, 1-4. tried a few sips of reds. the blends didn't excite me. the wine display here is nicely categorized in various varietals. picked up a few chauvingnon blancs on sale (6.99, 8.99) cashier added me to the email list so i could get the speicals' price. -was done smilingly, swiftly, in literally seconds. -definitley a fan of cost plus wines! read more

Bathroom review! This is specifically a review of their bathrooms, which unfortunately are poorly maintained and gross. They used to have one men's bathroom and one women's bathroom and they've since changed it so that they're both either/or M/F bathrooms (no, there's no gender neutral signage so no excitement there...). I've had to use this bathroom in a pinch over the years (since at least 2008) and it used to not be so bad. It's never been one of the nicer, cleaner ones, but it was one that could be easily accessed when in the area and not wanting to go into the busy mall for Macy's, Nordstrom or one of the cleaner bathrooms. It used to be more on-par with the bathroom at the Barns & Noble bookstore, which is decent, usually clean but could use some sprucing up. Not anymore. It's really bad now - along the lines of a gas station bathroom (which is pretty much the lowest of the low in my book. Details: The toilet had splats of unknown substances (you can make guesses on this, I'll pass...) on the inside and outside and the seat looked worse for wear. The container for used feminine stuff was so very gross that no one is going to touch it to put their used goods in - that means more will be flushed and clogging their toilet, or tossed over into the main trashcan (which is likely what is happening and why it looks so gross too). The wall around the sink is super dirty, with brown splats too (looks more like dirt though, than other gross things). The walls in general need either a hard-core scrubbing or just paint over it all and start fresh. The floors are gnarly too. There were NO PAPERTOWELS! So, I used a handful of seatliners to dry my hands after washing, and apparently this was the accepted substitute as there was an extra cardboard container of them that clearly were being used for that purpose due to the wet water drops and hand prints on the cardboard. This is all based on the one that used to be labeled the women's (the one on the right) as I tends to stick with what I know and also in my historical experience usually there are less dribbles and splats in women's restrooms vs. mens. This is obviously no longer the case here. I can't say it's all due to the change from women's to either/or, because the cleanliness of the walls, smeared stuff all over the feminine disposal unit and lack of paper towels can't be blamed on that. I only mention it as it is a variable that might be impacting the significant downgrade in cleanliness/quality of this bathroom. I'm uploading images, so check the photos to see.... I had a pretty frustrating customer experience today. The clearance section had a pair of nesting tables that I decided to purchase. Being in the clearance section, I figured they were floor models sold as is, so I carried them up front. When I got to the register the cashier, Patti, told me "You're not supposed to move the floor models, we sell things in boxes from the back." Me thinking to myself - Ok, good to know, and thanks for making me feel slightly stupid. A phone call to the "back" then 15 minutes of waiting, then I get told "well we're supposed to have them, I can issue you a rain check for a week". Me: "You can't sell me these right here that I brought up from clearance?" Patti: "No, not when we're supposed to have them". To say the effort on her part during this process was minimal, would be an overstatement. I walked out, leaving the perfectly good tables at the register and my money still in my pocket to be spent somewhere else. read more

If you are not a fan of arduous plane rides but love cool interesting things, World Market is for you. For Christmas, my cousin bought me a ceramic matroska doll set that is secretly a kitchen tool. You open the first doll up and each piece is a measuring device-the bottom is a 1/2 cup and the top is 3/4 cup. When you put it all together, it's a great decoration for your kitchen countertop. This wonderful piece came from World Market so on my recent trip to California, I made her take me to this fascinating place. There are so many random, unique and fantastic items. There's a kitchen, bathroom, stationery, alcohol, clothing/jewelry, outdoor, food and toy section. There's a Hawaii section, Thailand section, etc. They have different but cool items you won't find anywhere else. On my recent trip, I got: Effiel tower greeting cards, paper clips shaped like humans, resuable red solo cups, a variety of kit kats (mint, orange, peanut butter and hazelnut), and a nice selection of wine accessories. Items at World Market range from a outdoor 4 piece couch set ($200ish) to a cylinder of popcorn kernels that came up to my hip. If only I could figure out how to take that on the plane, I would be my father's hero. Prices are very reasonable and it's quite possibly the fastest most fun way to find the coolest things from around the world. read more

Cost Plus World Market (Cost Plus, what a strange name) is a very eclectic store catering to your needs in furniture, interior design, wine, international foods, and more. Who doesn't love Cost Plus? I always find something that excites me here. The selection of furniture, decor, jewelry and kitchenware is amazing here. Bigger than other cost pluses I've been to. The parking is convenient too- a little small but pretty close to the actual entrance of the store ( great for heavy items). Their employees are very nice as well. In particular, Tino- he is very helpful with a great personality- Also Bradley, sweet personality and helpful. Both of these guys helped me out with a heavy dresser to my car. Adjusted the boxing and properly placed it. It was outstanding customer service! I always shop here.. and always will! read more

Cost Plus World Market has lots of wine. That's just one aspect of the truly 'international' flare that this place has. You can get tiki torches, salsa, bamboo shoots, tea, espresso, pillows, just about anything else here. I can never really go here and enjoy myself, because there's just too much stuff vying for my attention and dollars. Cost Plus is pretty standard as much as it is a chain store, so the selection is more or less standard across the board. Costs are a little on the high side. You have a real range when it comes to the wine, everything else is kind of hoity toity (or it would like to be) and is priced accordingly. That being said, you can find those neat-o items here, like novelty straws with umbrellas on them, and that is sometimes worth it. read more

One of my favorite companies, but this location is more like a Best Of store but with items shoved into every nook and cranny. Like many of the larger chain company stores in the Marin County region, less clean and always picked over. Awkward location to reach and often forget to drive over because of it...but their wine section is redeeming. Bev Mo is opening up in the same shopping center though so will be interesting to see the effect. Extra star because the staff folk fall into either the uber helpful category or "this is what I am bitter about life" segment -- the latter are the best as checkers and you get a good dose of entertainment. read more

First timer to a Cost Plus World Market. What a fun shop. Kind of like Pier 1. Some food samples, too. We came on a Friday and it was not too busy so we pushed the stroller around leisurely. The staff were great, so friendly. We got a small dark wood kitchen nook table for $100 that was advertised on sale. It is surprisingly sturdy for a build it yourself piece. And pretty. Two woven chairs to go with it at $90 each promo price. Took almost two hours to put together! But very sturdy. A dark rustic looking black hallway table. Very unique looking and cute. It was clearance for half off, $125. A man helped us carry the items out to our car. Pleasant shopping experience. I loved the selection of foods from around the world. This location can be a little crazy at times but it is your typical Cost Plus World Market and is my go to for German snacks when I don't want to make the trek down into SF. This location has a fantastic selection of wine and beer and a smaller selection of the hard stuff. Unfortunately being next door to BevMo! makes it a little difficult for me to justify buying drinks here, but they do have some stuff that BevMo! doesn't carry (different types of Aspall Cider for example). I love Cost Plus, and I like this location over the San Francisco one simply because parking is SO EASY IN MARIN... anyway, this place has a great wine section (check out the Spanish wines, they are delicious and very very affordable- so buy a boxful haha), pretty solid "imported foods" section ranging from English digestive cookies and the like to Japanese candies and coffee and seasonings from the world over. They also have pretty good furniture here if you're looking for something made of dark wood. I'm partial to their selection of home office furniture in dark rubberwood, but that's just me. They also have some dining sets, and living room furniture. There is also a pretty overwhelming selection of candles (both to sift through and on your nose since most are scented) but the low prices make the nasal sacrifice worth it. In addition to grabbing your international bottle of wine here, you can also buy flatware and glasses to match, natch. Traditional, modern, Asian-inspired, you want it, they probably have some cheap version of it (the better to swap out when you decide to makeover your house/apartment decor theme). The store employees generally know what they have in stock, and are very helpful should you choose to order something backordered from the warehouse. read more

Nate was absolutely great and very accommodating! My husband and I went in to buy a large wooden wine bar, but we didn't have a truck with us to take it home. I had seen the bar online, but they were out of stock online. Nate had a "no problem!" approach and he said once we paid for it, they could hold it for us until we were ready. A couple days later, When we returned with a truck, Nate brought it out, to the truck, and loaded the bar with my husband. Once we got home and opened the large box (it came in a box to be assembled), some of the wood was damaged. I called the store and spoke to a manager who asked us to bring in the damaged part. That manager was Shan (spelling?? It was pronounced like "Sean", but spelled differently!) and he was absolutely amazing!!! Since they had no other one of the bars in stock, Shan took the damaged part off the display model on the floor and exchanged it. He apologized for the Inconvenience and was a good sport about the whole thing. My bar is up at looking great at my home. Thanks, Nate and Shan! Great customer service at this Cost Plus.
