I am heartbroken and extremely disappointed with the care my dog received at Crater Animal Clinic. I first brought her in because she had lost interest in food. She was prescribed antibiotics, but after a week there was still no improvement. The vet then suggested IV antibiotics, followed by an ultrasound, which showed a small lesion on her liver. The recommendation was a surgical biopsy. When I asked how my dog would recover from surgery when she still wasn't eating, the response I received was simply to "force feed her." Another test was suggested (a chest X-ray), and desperate to help my dog, I agreed. After hours of waiting with no communication, I had to call myself--only to be told by a vet tech that the X-rays showed no abnormalities and the note from the vet was, "continue with what you're doing." When I arrived to pick up my dog, the first thing I was met with was a request for payment--before I was even able to speak with the vet. It became clear to me at that moment that this office prioritizes dollars over the well-being of their patients. To make matters worse, my dog was brought out soiled and clearly uncared for while in their holding kennel. The following day, a home vet came to evaluate her and immediately identified jaundice--something this vet office never mentioned. Tragically, my sweet girl did not recover, and I had to say goodbye. I am sharing this experience because I would never want another pet parent to go through what we did. Our animals deserve compassionate, thorough, and attentive care--qualities I did not see reflected here. read more

We board our cat, Jo Bean, whenever we take a vacation. Everyone is always so kind to her. The ladies really seem to care about Jo Bean and they treat her like their own. Very nice and professional front desk staff. Pleasant attitudes always. Rebecca and Maryann are two of the ladies who took care of her this last time and they are really great people. Dr. Smith is a caring and exceptional veterinarian. When our precious Katie was suffering he did everything to save her. When her time came he gave us a wonderful website to visit. Dr. Smith and the whole crew have been great. Dr. Smith is very honest and upfront, giving all options of treatment. The hydrotherapy is worth every penny and has greatly improved our dog's life. This is the best veterinarian clinic in the rogue Valley. I switch to them due to an emergent situation they got me in immediately and saved my dogs life. They always remember us when we come in. They have such good hearts. In the few other situations we've had since I started going there I always get a call a day or two afterwards to see how we are doing both of us they know I'm a neurotic dog mom lol. read more

Crater Animal Clinic has always been great, but right now they aren't. They are open, it wouldn't take long, but the would rather a dog suffer instead of letting us bring her in. This is our alternate vet (when all creatures is unavailable) who was able to get us in same day for what seemed like an emergency. After calling, they were able to get us in with in 2 hours of calling to see our pooch who was bleeding from an orifice without any known reason/trauma. They're prices are reasonable, employees all were compassionate, helpful and friendly. Their location is definitely more convenient than our normal vet who's just outside Eagle Point. We are especially appreciative they were able to get us in so quick. That coupled with them having the necessary labs and equipment on site to evaluate and diagnose symptoms helped get our pooch on a path to treatment and recovery quickly. After using Crater Animal Climic for 30 years we are leaving to go to another veterinarian. I woke up this morning to my dogs bed covered in blood and her ear bleeding. I called them when they opened and they said the could see her May 19th, today is the 2nd. They could fit me in tomorrow at 4:00p with a 97.00 fee for fitting her in. I obviously couldn't wait that long so called the vet my friend uses. They asked me how quick I could get there and I left immediately. I was seen right away and Lily was carefully tended too and the bleeding stopped. When I called Crater back to cancel the appointment and why, the receptionist didn't want to know why. I had to ask for a manager. Terrible service, it has definitely gone downhill and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. read more

I am so disappointed with this practice. I brought my horse to them for diagnosing and treatment. The vet I requested passed me to a newer vet. Although friendly and knowledgeable she didn't respond when my horse had complications. Despite numerous emails and videos there has been no follow up, the documentation that I paid for was not provided, and now my horse is un rideable. read more

I have been taking my dogs here for nearly four years. When she was a pup and broke her leg, they made us wait an entire weekend to set her leg and didn't even give her pain pills. It was nearly $1000 for her leg. Now they ask for an exam nearly every time I need to refill my pet's allergy medication. They then refused to fill it until I went to a "pet dermatologist" that they recommended. $350 later, the dermatologist couldn't do anything for the dog besides an elimination diet which we had already tried. Asked for a refill and they made us pay $120 for a blood test. Asked for a refill, they said I have to do another exam-the blood test was two months ago...I can not recommend them since they are only interested in money. They are priced above other vets in the area and aren't anything special for the price. read more

Had a 4 o'clock appointment arrived at 3:45 made several telephone calls to let them know I had arrived for my appointment. Left a message waited another 15 minutes and called again. The young lady told me they were not checking voice messages. So one would think to turn it off or add that to the message. But I was checked in and they would be right there. At 4:45, I still had not been seen so I called and talked to another lady who tried to tell me Mondays were busy. Really your office is the one who offered the application to begin with. After that I left. I heard its under new ownership and customer service is not good. Would not recommend!!! read more

They charge a $10 prescription fee per item. They don't tell you this. Way more expensive than other places. For a simple antibiotic they wanted me to pay $50. I called Walmart and got it for like $10. Also our dog became a diabetic. Didn't want us to get our own test kit. Each time we need to go in it was $20. Also didn't want to increase insulin dosage to her her regulated. After a month of not getting anywhere we went back to our old vet in GP. They were able to get her regulated in just a week and a half. With doing our own testing at home. All they want to do is make money. Do your homework. read more

On Tuesday morning, July 30, I called to inquire about boarding my 2 dogs starting on Thursday August 1-5. The woman on the phone said they had room available, took my information and I told her I would scan and send their records over with the consent forms. I did that immediately after the call. I called Wednesday morning to make sure they did receive the email and if they needed any other information. She asked my name, said it all looked good and the kennel manager would call me by the end of the day. No call. So I called again Thursday morning, after giving her my name, she looked it up, and letting her know I had not received a call asked again if there was anything I needed to do or bring for my dogs. She just said if there was something that would make their stay more comfortable but please come before noon. I told her I was leaving right then because we needed to leave for our trip at noon. I get there, and there were two women sitting behind the counter. One was on the phone and the other sitting next to her. She glanced my way briefly, and said how are you. I told her my name and why I was there. Then I stood there with my dogs until someone else walked in and asked me to come over to her side. I did, told her my name and I was there to drop off the dogs. She looked me up, and told me it would be a minute and someone would come up. After a few minutes she walked into the back. Now another woman came up, told me there had been a miscommunication and my dogs could not stay because they had not had a parainfluenza shot. They could give them one but it takes time to kick in. She asked me if I had tried R & R Kennel. I said I didn't know I needed to since I was never aware there was an issue. She said we just received your email last night as I was leaving work. I told her that was not true and I am supposed to be leaving in an hour. She said, sorry, and turned to walk away. I told her I don't think you are and walked out. My opinion with the exception of the young woman that had me come to her computer, the others were unprofessional and irresponsible. And the fact is, neither I or any of my animals will EVER walk into that place again. read more

Everytime we go in we come out paying way more than originally told and they are already one of the more expensive in the area. Today had our male mini dachshund fixed and we were told $127-189. Walked away with a bill for $433! Insane! And they didn't even keep him over night, would have been twice that I'm sure if they had. Will not be back to this vet. They had cared for both my puppies and I knew they were expensive but this is unacceptable. And to top it off they were rude when questioned about the bill. read more

We have been using Crater Animal Clinic for over 12 years. Starting with our 2 Saint Bernards and now with our 2 English Bulldogs. They have always been very knowledgable on the breeds of dogs and their problems. Not only is this the only vet in the area that we will take our precious babies to, but we also use their boarding services when we are out of town. Our babies love them and they live our babies. Thanks to them we have healthy puppies and a great place to board them when needed. read more

AMAZING PLACE TO TAKE YOUR PETS! We recently adopted a red heeled from the humane society who had gotten fixed the day prior to adoption and had kennel cough. They completely talked about kennel cough as if it was nothing and gave us medicine for it. The first 12 hours of having him was brutal, it was obvious something was really wrong, so I called in and 11:30 knowing that they close at 12:30 I was just looking to get a apt for Monday the receptionist was a doll and was like, "it sounds like you're pretty nervous about waiting come down asap and we will take care of you guys" from the moment we walk in every treated us with so much respect, explained everything to us and were amazing with our dog. Since that visit he's doing amazing! We definitely found our forever vet! read more

Tuesday, November 27, 2018 Would definitely NOT RECOMMEND Crater Animal Clinic for boarding! We had been coming here vet check-ups, vaccines and every ailment in between for our two little dogs for over 4 years so we thought we were doing the very best for them when we left them here for 3 nights of boarding on Monday Nov. 12th. We carefully detailed the little dogs ongoing cloudy eye condition (not glaucoma), included his medications and Dr. Bliss', (veterinary ophthalmologist) written orders with the boarding admission papers. We explained everything and had everything labeled for the kennel worker ('M'). Our larger dog got diarrhea two nights later, Wednesday, and when 'K" called to tell us she blamed the 5 star rated food he has been eating for 2-3 years with never any diarrhea. When we picked our dogs up just after 4 PM on Thursday the 15th we saw the little dog bump into a pedestal in the lobby as ('M") walked them out, but didn't think too much of it because we thought he was looking at us instead of where he was going. As we drove away the little guy was sneezing and we thought he may have picked up a cold even though both dogs were fully vaccinated for everything (including dog influenza and boosters). At home we began to suspect the little guy had never been given his eye medications in the entire three days because his eyes were tightly closed, tearing and he seemed in pain. At bedtime we saw him bump into a dining room table leg, then the doors and walls! He could not see, he was blind! The next morning, Friday the 16th, we called to get the little guy in to Crater Animal Clinic to check out his eyes. Dr. Lawrence agreed that yes, the little guy was blind but we may be able to save some of the little guy's sight if we took him immediately for an emergency appointment with Dr. Bliss, the veterinary ophthalmologist specialist in Medford. Dr. Bliss found that both of his eyes had scratches and both eyes had corneal ulcers! Luckily he still had vision but it was severely limited from edema and infection. Over the weekend we had to take the bigger dog to Southern Oregon Veterinary Specialties Emergency Clinic in Medford for the severe diarrhea he developed at Crater Animal Clinic. We believe it was giarrdia (sp?) though there wasn't sufficient sample to test because the little dog got diarrhea as well on the following Monday, though both dogs had eaten only boiled chicken breasts and rice since Friday. Since 11-16 we have taken the little dog back to Dr. Bliss, the veterinary ophthalmologist, twice more for the little dog's corneal ulcers, infection and edema. As of Nov. 26th his eyes are finally improved after 9 days of treatment. All in all as a result of the 3 days boarding at Crater Animal Clinic it has cost us exactly $956.63 for medical treatment with local specialist, veterinarians and medications PLUS the boarding costs at Crater Animal Clinic! NOT ONCE has Crater Animal Clinic EVER called to follow up on our how our two dogs are doing! read more

Dr. Kaiser had the unpleasant task of assisting us with putting our beloved terrier to sleep, after we had her for 16 years. She was in terrible distress, and the time had come to end her suffering. He came in on a Sunday, meeting us at the clinic. He was so kind and reassuring, and my husband and I were so grief-stricken, we couldn't stop crying. I was so impressed with Dr. Kaiser's humanity in this difficult circumstance. And the cost was half of what it would have been at the local emergency clinic. I trust this clinic with my horses as well. They have always been wonderful to work with. read more
