I can't walk past a sushi bar I haven't been to and not find time to stop in and try it out. I was in Newstead this afternoon found this little hole in the wall establishment. Well, let me tell you something about Crazy Fish- their sushi is crazy good.
They have a teeny tiny sushi train which isn't all that great to sit at. You find yourself less than half a metre away from the stranger sitting across from you on the other side of the train. It's a little too close for comfort, for me at least. I decided to take my plates to the table outside to get some space. They had your average sushi fare on the train as well as less common miniature cupcakes on offer. I didn't try them, but they looked scrumptious.
I ordered from the menu and got myself a katsu chicken and avocado roll, as well as a Beef Takami roll (both $3.70). I wasn't overly impressed with the Takami. It was a neat and tidy morsel of food, but it wasn't outstanding. The Katsu chicken on the other hand was extraordinary. The rice was cool, as was the japanese mayo, but the chicken was freshly cooked and still warm. The seaweed tied the avocado, chicken and rice together into a compact treat which I devoured carefully. I savoured each mouthful. It was delicious.
The decor is quite snazzy. It's got some very cool wallpaper on one wall, and they've made great use of a small space. It has everything your standard sushi train has, but makes it's offerings in a better environment.
The Katsu chicken has propelled Crazy Fish Sushi Bar into top ranking as 'favourite sushi bar in Brisbane'. Yum. read more
