Porfirio's - Bone marrow

Dinner in the cancun strip…read more We decided to pick Porfirio's for the evening from all of the restaurants outside of the all inclusive resorts. I took some notes and this is what I thought of the dishes. Xoajacan Imoladas - The mole is perfection. The flautas, superb. Everything in this plate is a symphony of what I would expect from Xoajaca. 9.5/10 Barbacoa Bonemarrow - Barcacoa is on point. The Marrow is Sublime. Together with the accompaniments is superb. I dream of Marrow everyday. This is a 10/10 Yellow fin Tosatadas - Superb!!! One of the best tostadas I have ever had. The microgreens, the sauce and the square Tostada works well all together. 8.8/10 Salmon - Cooked perfectly. The corn is a great accompaniment. The fish is impeccably seasoned. This dish is heaven sent with a 9.8/10 Grilled Octopus - Grilled perfectly, I can tell by the texture. The mash is superb, they used margarine instead of butter and I absolutely love the contrast from the traditional mash. 9.8/10 Mexican Rice - Its pretty good. It does have a nice seafoodish finish. The pepper was actually spicy. Nice and pleasant rice dish. 8/10 Charred Avocado Salad - Grilled avocado is a bit of a wash. It did make it look good on the plate. The dressing is a little weak. Needs a little more zip, some citrus or vinegar would give this salad some justice. Its a little uninspired 7/10 Service is impeccable and attentive and the atmosphere is lovely.

Anyway: the food, presentation of the dishes itself, and the overall vibe: 4/5. My favorite dish was definitely the steak. The bone marrow is better off being plain without all the stuff they put on top. The steak itself was perfectly cooked & seasoned. I should've took more pictures of the food but whatever- the mango tuna thing with avocado was delicious. Very mango forward. Great alongside some salsa as well. The octopus: OK enough, slightly overcooked. Chewy. Chicharron guac was yum. Our server was so sweet in the beginning but had an attitude after getting tipped 25% LOL other than that, great experience :)

The staff didn't…read morejust greet us; they welcomed us with the kind of warmth and attention that makes you feel like the entire evening was designed around you. Once we stepped onto the deck overlooking the lagoon, the whole experience elevated even further. The scenery was stunning, soft lights reflecting off the water, a gentle breeze, and live music drifting through the air like the perfect soundtrack to an already unforgettable night. Then came the food, each dish was its own little masterpiece. The bread service alone set the tone: warm, golden rolls with just the right touch off salt. The wedge salad followed. It was crisp, cold, and generously dressed, with smoky bacon and bright tomatoes adding all the right contrasts. The dry-aged steak was the star of the table, cooked perfectly with that deep, rich flavor only dry-aging can create. The roasted peppers and silky sauce on the side made every bite feel intentional. The octopus was another standout, tender, beautifully charred, and plated with a vibrant puree that balanced the dish with a touch of sweetness. One of the best plates we had. The table got more entrees since there were 8 of us but didn't get pictures. Sea brass was another favorite. Even the lobster soup arrived with flair: a velvety bowl paired with a seafood-topped toast that brought texture and richness together in one elegant bite. The beef tartare with fries was classic and fresh, refined without losing its fun. Dessert turned into a full performance. The liquid-nitrogen ice cream came with swirling clouds of cold vapor, dramatic and delicious. The birthday cake arrived crowned with berries and a sparkling candle that lit up the whole table. And just when we thought the night couldn't get any more whimsical, out came the towering blue cotton candy, playful, over-the-top, and impossible not to smile at. Harry's doesn't just serve dinner. It creates an experience, one where the service, the scenery, the atmosphere, and the food all work together to make you feel celebrated. Our night felt luxurious, thoughtful, and truly unforgettable for my husband's 50th birthday! Well done Harry's!

We came to Harry's a couple years back when we visited Cancun and I am celiac and I had a lovely dinner with my partner. On this visit, we were seated at a beautiful table and we ordered drinks. Our waiter, a bald headed young man 30s, refused to check with the kitchen to see if they could accommodate me. I am celiac not vegan. I was told there was nothing I could eat except steak and he proceeded to show us the entire steak selection. Truthfully I was feeling slightly unwell from not eating the entire day. I felt like fish, he said I can give you dry fish no sauce on top. He suggested maybe we just do appetizers. We had a 8 pm dinner reservation, what the hell would I want to order appetizers and call it day? This waiter was chit chatting with his maitre'd and other wait staff and I felt terribly uncomfortable that i was told I couldn't eat anything from the men, we we all know was ridiculous and not true. We finished our drinks and asked for the check. I made a reservation for Porfirios next door bc I could see they had some gluten free options. Harry's used to be accommodating but no longer. We will not come to Harry's again for food. Not only this, the waiter was trying to once again embarrass us by advising us that we could walk to Porfirios, next door to the restaurant from the back patio. We got up and began walking towards the patio and suddenly I realized he was totally making a fool of us, why would we go from the back if we have to check in with the hostess stand in the front of the restaurant? We walked straight out of Harry's from front door. Never again. So disrespectful and such a rude experience. Not only this, Harry's canceled/ removed our open table reservation (even though we fulfilled it and paid for our drinks and still tipped generously), so I cannot even leave a review and send a private message to the restaurant. Pathetic customer service.

They have a bar food menu, and on Sunday had a nicer expanded dinner menu. Nice sandy bar/lounge area. The beach isn't great - weedy and rocky so not great for swimming. Be warned the breakfast or bar food can take over 30-45 minutes to arrive, so order as soon as you sit. They keep your passport for your entire stay as "collateral"????? We picked this place because of their Sunday night beach party. Sadly - while the beach party was well attended by lots of attractive people drinking happily, but I'm not understanding the earsplitting loud techno music that played until about 3 in the morning. At some point enough is enough. I was hoping for some latin music, maybe some chill music as the party got going......the music was like one long loud annoying song. The other nights we were there, also techno music just not as loud. Ever hear of latin music?

I have never had a ribeye with less fat. If not for the menu I would guess it was a filet mignon and not ribeye. I am not a filet mignon fan and even if I were I would prefer such a lean cut rare to medium-rare rather than the medium to medium-well of this cut. This much said service is exceptional and the complementary appetizer the kitchen sent out was quite good. The guacamole we ordered for an appetizer is pretty good though I wasn't fond of the tortilla chips.

It's a gorgeous bar, with all kinds of fancy seats and booths and what looks like beds everywhere. It has a DJ booth in the middle of the room, which makes sense because Avenue turns into a dance club at night. It's also a place for shows and entertainment, with a show every night at 8:30 -this week you could choose from 70's songs, Carribean Night, a Michael Jackson Night, Broadway Night, Mexican, International, and Circus. We walked by last night as the Circus show was in full swing. The place was packed and folks were standing three deep in the lobby to watch the three acrobats walking up a pole with their hands and feet, spinning around, moving up and down, head first and feet first, then standing on each other. Pretty cool. We also saw a juggler with neon light rings and flaming things that created a pretty nice visual as he whipped them around. Totally fun..

Our server Miguel was great. One of my friends ordered a apple martini. And he had this rolly cart that came over and prepared it infront of us. It had a slice of cucumber and he had then taken a fresh piece of rosemary. He lit it near the rim and aromatically added rosemary to the martini! My friend loved it so he drank 3 of them. I had a mango martini. It was good but after drinking all day didnt want to overload before dinner so i only had a few sips but it was good! Espresso martinis. Were also ordered i was told it was delicious. I dont drink coffee so it didnt interest me. 8:30 the music starts pumping the fog machine starts to pump some fog smoke. Then the dances started coming out in such vibrant costumes. In this lounge the sj booth is in the middle and open we were on the side. And everyone was all over as the dancers performed in the middle. I felt like i was at a dancing with the stars performances. Girls were getting flipped had head pieces on. And the guys knew how to shake it!! The costume changes were quick and they came out from one routine to the next! Cant wait to go back tonight and see it again. Everynight they change the genre. Tonight it was spanish. Last night we missed it but it had. American songs like ymca. Music from the 70s The next few nights the shows included. michael jackson performance. Amazing!! Mexican night with traditonal mexican clothes and dances International night. Had some bollywood dancing Broadway night. Was great had some hairspray, wicked, west side story. Numbers!

If you are not staying at the hotel, be sure you tell the gate keeper that you are going to this restaurant when approaching the hotel. The workers will point you towards the restaurant. The hotel itself is beautiful, it feels like you are walking through an indoor plant nursery. The meal started off at the bar outside of the dining area, where reimagined cocktails are served before your meal. My party and I were served by Luis here who was the sweetest and thoughtful. Luis's cocktails set the expectations very high. Then you are moved to the dining area where you are offered a wine menu and the appetizers and entrees begin coming out. Each dish was explained and plated perfectly. They are small plates, not full plate coursed meals. I wish the cocktails were served at the end of the meal as the heavy sweetness factor did fill us up by the middle of the dinner, we were stuffed. If you are in cancun I believe that this is a necessary stop in your itinerary. For around 125USD per person you will have a classy dining experience. Email the restaurant beforehand to make a reservation, they're not the best with their communication but once you get a reservation, you have no worries. A reservation was easy to obtain via email and we were all set for a sunset, evening meal. We were warmly welcomed and promptly seated. The service was impeccable, the atmosphere pleasant with an acoustic duo playing mellow tunes in the background. Honestly, we were a little disappointed with the view that most reviews rave about. Our sever was knowledgeable and made several suggestions. We selected the Pepita Crusted Tuna for a starter, my companion had the fresh catch which was grouper, blackened with a side of the peanut sauce. I chose the Surf and Turf. For dessert, we shared the Key Lime Pie. Everything was beautifully presented, and quite artistic. The tuna appetizer was very good, but the main courses were frankly a disappointment. The creativity of the plate did not make up for the lackluster food. The steak was tough and poorly seasoned, the lobster was just passable but also chewy and not tender. The fish was not as well cooked as other restaurants downtown and again the seasoning was lackluster. The sides, lentils and mashed potatoes were just ok. The homemade Key Lime Pie was enjoyable but again seemed to lack a depth of flavor. If the food could match the service, presentation, and atmosphere then perhaps this could be one of Isla's better dining establishments, until then "the juice was not worth the squeeze."
