I knew what to expect because I had attended a gong bath many years ago. That experience had me falling asleep, experiencing synaesthesia, seeing explosions of light, color and sound, as well as feeling very peaceful and relaxed. This immersion was held in the yoga studio and was at capacity. You set down a mat, and other blankets, with feet in the direction of the gong. (This event had five sound healers and gongs). We started with some stretches and yoga. Then you lie down, palms up, legs uncrossed and listen. It's hard to describe the sound. It's deep, almost like a rumble, kinda like the cymbals, but more than just hearing, I also felt it in my pulse. With five gongs it's almost like a symphony with sounds and vibrations building on top of each other but you don't just hear it coming from the direction of your feet, it seems to be coming from every direction, immersing you in vibration. At this point I went in and out of sleep and certain sounds made my limbs twitch. One certain sound seemed to jolt me awake and I saw yellow or green pops of color (my eyes were closed). After that, I started to get restless and could not stay still and needed to stretch. I think at that point I had enough and it was maybe 10 minutes more (the total gong portion was 75 min?). I felt very tired (perhaps extremely relaxed?) and calm, my eyes were tearing (???), and we then had a short deep breathing and meditation. The gong practitioners were lovely, beautiful souls who promoted peace and healing. I felt at peace and in a more refreshed state of mind than when I started. I would attend another of these events but next time I would bring more blankets.

The studio is clean, welcoming, and well-run, with a truly supportive and motivating environment. Yoga Sculpt at Deerfield is on another level. It's the perfect combination of strength, cardio, and mindfulness--challenging and energizing in every session. What truly sets this studio apart are the instructors: *Emily Mysel is one of the best instructors out there--hands down. Her classes book up fast (even on the 4th of July, I had to carve out time to make it happen). She's both a powerhouse and a beast--in the best way. Her energy, focus, and spot-on playlists push you to keep going, especially when you feel like slowing down. You'll leave drenched and physically reset--even when the day throws something unexpected your way. That's the kind of impact she makes every time. * Okay--so clearly Emily is the best... but then there's Sandi L., who somehow also is the best‍ She's equally remarkable, bringing nonstop energy, clear instruction, and the kind of motivation that keeps the entire class locked in. She breaks down movement with purpose and creates a space that makes you actually want to show up and give it your all. Huge thank you to Sandi to transition from occasional drop-ins to a monthly membership, and it's been more than worth it. * Ally F. and Amy K. are next-level too--each bringing their own style and strength to Sculpt. I could go on, but I'll keep this review short: every instructor I've taken class with has been consistently strong, thoughtful, and effective. You'll leave feeling accomplished, every time. All of the instructors here bring something special, and that's why classes book up quickly. I'm sure I've missed a few incredible instructors along the way, but truly--you can't go wrong at this studio. If you're looking for a studio that delivers every time--this is the one!

They meet you where you are, as advertised, and are helpful rather than hypercritical. Thank you to them. Not all, though. You won't hear a lot of "honor yourself" or "breathe into it" or movement with breath instructions. Last week I heard, "Last week's class did all of this, so DO IT." "I've already worked out 2.5 hours today, so you have no excuse." "It's a good thing I'm pregnant or else you wouldn't be getting so many breaks." "You can drink water when we break for it." Last I checked, yoga is not a competitive sport. As for the place itself, water constantly leaks from a pipe or the water fountain or both. I and several others nearly fell because there's no wet floor sign, no towels put down, and the floor is tile. I called it out and got, "that always happens," so I laid towels and warned ppl myself. Safety not a first priority, nor cleanliness given that. I thought about bringing a friend who is physically limited, but I didn't want to risk a fall. Finally, while it may be fixed now, the humidifier has been broken for weeks, with many promises that it'll be fixed by a certain day, then the part is on order but "will be here today." Then "next week" ... practicing is possible in dry heat, but stating the room is always 40% when it's not is misleading. Dry air breeds more bacteria, and winter is rough on sinuses and muscles as it is. (Of course, some may not care, but the humidity was a #1 reason why I chose Drip.) Emily did extend membership for a week (verbally, but it never reflected on my account). Not clear whether I will pay for a new membership or not. I'm going to try a few more places first. Biggest concern aside from those, though, I often overheard instructors/owner complaining loudly about members and their complaints, and gossiping, which doesn't create the best vibe in the space. If it's important to you that the energy match your practice intentions, something to consider. But again ... Ilyce, great. Nicole, great. Dragan, intense but great. Briana, great. Watch the water on the floor and the possible lack of humidity, and look for those instructors, and you're mostly good to go.
